Edgar was very friendly and welcoming. I am very much a beginner when it comes to strength training so I appreciate the group settings where I can feel motivated by others around me. The group classes see 8 people maximum which makes it easier to get the attention of the trainer if you have any questions or concerns. They also offer 1:1 personal training and an open gym. Parking: plenty and free

You get the group fitness atmosphere and motivation, which I love, but also the attention of personal training because the groups are small, and the coaches are very attentive. The group classes are at most 8 people, so it's never too crowded and there is plenty of equipment to go around. Plus you get inspiration and motivation from the people working out around you. The owner Edgar designs the workout programs to run for 4-6. So you will be doing the same exact exercises each week until the program changes. This gives you the ability to track your progress and make improvements throughout the program. This is very different compared to other group fitness class I've done, which change the workouts each week, and there isn't as much structure or emphasis on tracking your lifts. Funktional fitness is great for anyone wanting to improve their physical fitness. It's great for the beginner and for the advanced lifter. The coaches are very knowledgeable and patient, but they will also challenge you. They have helped me out so much with my form on my lifts and given me cues that have really stuck for me. I've only been working out at Funktional for about 4 months but I've already seen more progress than I have the last year.

Got a decent amount of squat racks too. I probably would have gotten a pass hear already but the manager here was extremely aggressive about my guest pass because of the influx of guest passes during the holiday season-- it's something you offer, and it should be something you respect. We're all working-class people here but I don't see how a few extra guests during the holidays makes your job all that much harder. If you're encouraged to have a more sales mentality, then act like you want people to sign up. Overall, just a really strange, aggressive and inappropriate interaction since it's literally something that's offered on the website, no matter the circumstance. I get a commercial gym shouldn't be a respectable customer-service institution but the manager's behavior was clownish, and interrogative in a way that was simply lame af. You're a 24 Hour fitness... a commercial gym. Maybe act a little less aggressive about those want to get a workout in during the holidays. Show a little empathy, bro.

The environment is supportive, and the programming is perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels. The workouts push you to become a better version of yourself. I'm so thankful I found FIT Brea! Over the past several years that I've lived in the area, I've…read morebeen a part of various gyms (both chain and boutique) nearby. Having now experienced FIT Brea, I'm definitely kicking myself for not trying this gym out sooner. I've only done their group fitness classes so far, which range from 8-12ish people in size, and I'm looking forward to trying out the personal training sessions when my schedule opens up! Here are a few ways that make FIT Brea a standout: COACHING: The coaches here are the whole package! 1. They all have stellar credentials, with many of them holding advance degrees and multiple certifications. In short, they know their stuff. 2. At the risk of sounding facetious, I just want to make the point that the FIT Brea coaches actually coach. It might sound like a no-brainer, but it hasn't always been my experience that coaches do much more beyond demo-ing the moves and saying "good job" or "keep going" every few minutes, especially in a group class setting. Here, the coaches constantly move throughout the room to offer individualized pointers on form, differentiated movements depending on individual strength and mobility, alternative movements for injuries, and encouragement and motivation to keep pushing so I can get better and better. 3. They are all super patient, encouraging, and welcoming! PROGRAMMING: The programming for the group classes are thoughtfully and methodically designed. From what I can tell so far, the workouts are structured in mesocycles with a progressive overload pattern. This is important because if we do the same thing over and over, our bodies will adapt and we will not make appreciable gains over time. With progressive overload, our bodies are constantly challenged so that we can keep increasing strength and improving hypertrophy. COMMUNITY: The FIT Brea community is so nice and helpful. I felt welcomed by the coaches and the other patrons from day one. Several people who recognized that I was new introduced themselves and helped me find and set up various equipment. Others even put my plates and dumbbells back during transitions. Just last week, the whole class broke out into spontaneous applause and cheer when I pushed out that last rep of bench press, haha! The mutually encouraging environment really underpins the whole vibe and experience here. It's a special thing. MANAGEMENT: One of the things that I didn't realize would make a difference in my overall gym experience is having direct access to management/owner. In my past gym experiences, the questions/concerns I had would typically have to go up a chain of command before I got a response. Since FIT Brea is owner-operated, the patrons can directly talk to Andrew, the owner, who is so nice and provides exceptional customer service. SPACE/EQUIPMEMENT: It's spacious, well-maintained, clean, and an overall pleasant environment to train in. CLASS OFFERINGS: I'm a busy mom who works full-time hours plus daily commute. I'm thankful that classes are offered as early as 5am and as late as 6:30pm so that I can get my training time in! If you are looking for a gym where you can optimize and maximize your fitness goals (whatever they are), look no further because FIT Brea is it! I'm a serial Yelp sleuther and almost never write reviews, but my experience thus far has so far exceeded my expectations that I felt compelled to share this gem of a place with others!

The lone janitor/maintenance guy does an incredible job. I'm honestly surprised he manages to keep the place as clean as he does by himself. He deserves recognition. Unfortunately, that's about where the positives end. There is a constant carousel of front desk employees. Trainers have almost completely disappeared. Ironically, I recently received an email advertising an "Elite" membership that includes unlimited classes and the recovery room. The problem is... what unlimited classes? When I first joined, they had an outstanding kickboxing coach, Jergoff, teaching multiple morning and evening classes. I haven't seen him in roughly six months. They also had an excellent boxing coach with real experience. I haven't seen him--or his classes--in a long time. I rarely see jiu-jitsu being taught anymore. Occasionally I'll walk by and catch a No-Gi class, but nothing consistent with the posted schedule. I haven't seen MMA classes running in quite some time either, and I honestly can't remember the last yoga class I saw. Could I have simply missed a few classes? Sure. But I've been a member for over two years, come in at all different times of the day, and I know who used to teach what. The original MMA coach has been gone for about a year. His replacement only lasted a few months. At this point, it's hard to understand why the gym continues advertising unlimited classes when so many of them either aren't happening or are incredibly inconsistent. From a customer's perspective, it feels misleading. That isn't even why I'm leaving. The reason I'm officially looking for another gym is because the newest bald manager decided to ban me from using the vibrating foam roller. His explanation was that it's a display model meant to be seen and purchased--not used. The ironic part is that on my very first day at this gym, I was specifically told that both the percussion gun and the vibrating foam roller were available for any member to use and were not part of the recovery room. I have no idea why this suddenly became an issue. Every time I'm there, I might see one person using the recovery room--if that. Me spending five minutes with the foam roller wasn't costing the gym recovery memberships. If anything, it highlights a sales problem, not a customer problem. This gym used to be alive. It was packed. Classes were full. Trainers were engaged. The recovery room had people in it. They hosted UFC viewing parties, raffles, holiday events, and there was actual energy when you walked through the doors. Now the atmosphere feels desperate. Empty. Sad. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was because most of the staff have always been friendly, and the gym has remained very clean. But being told I couldn't use a foam roller--after years of being allowed to--and then immediately receiving an email trying to sell me an "Elite" membership was honestly insulting. Over the next few days I'll be trying other gyms. If I find one I like, I'll be back to cancel my membership. If not, I'll keep looking. Either way, I'll be canceling soon. For anyone considering joining, I honestly don't think the upgraded membership is worth it anymore. The access-only membership has gone up in price, and the premium membership no longer offers the value it once did because the trainers and classes that justified the cost simply aren't there anymore. Yes, the recovery room is nice--probably the nicest feature the gym still has. But many competing gyms include amenities like saunas, pools, and hot tubs in a standard membership. Between that and the growing number of affordable at-home recovery devices, it's hard to justify paying roughly $120 a month for a gym that no longer delivers what made it special. When professional fighters were teaching classes every day, on schedule, there was a real argument that the price was worth it. Today, I don't think there is. More than anything, I'm disappointed. This used to be one of my favorite gyms. Watching it decline over the past couple of years has been frustrating. Ironically, the final straw wasn't some major issue--it was being told I could no longer use a foam roller I'd been allowed to use for years. I hope that decision was worth losing a loyal customer.
