The main highlight of Playground is the outdoor seating that overlooks one of the main streets of historic downtown Galveston. They also have a singer on the weekends (although he really wasn't very good and maybe even took away from the ambiance overall). The food here is overpriced for the quality and taste - plus there's a limited selection of draft beverages. While seating is easy to find, there does tend to be a bunch of little ants on the tables who are quick to pounce on unattended food. read more

December 4, 2021 Came in for dinner after Dickens on the Strand. They were busy but there was room inside. We sat at bar and it took 10 minutes to be acknowledged; the bartenders noticed us and that we had menus, but still ignored us. When we were proactive with them they came and took our order. They serve appetizers, hotdogs, burgers and nachos only. We got the Atomic hotdog, the Chico hotdog with cheesy fries and a swiss/mushroom burger. Everything was delicious. I went with 5 friends and every restaurant we wanted to go to said the playground was great and open on Monday's. We showed up and everything is fine. Until we get our food. The food is $15-$20 for just burgers, that price doesn't include fries. They start bringing out our food and the queso is disturbing. It's so grainy and chunky and it's brown colored. The queso reminds me of the Galveston sand at the beaches. Yuck! Then as we finish up eating I realize my sisters food wasn't ever dropped off. She had a fucking salad. No way it takes the cook the entire time they made our meal and the time to finish our meal to make the damn salad. I had to ask them about it for the them to finally bring it. Also, my friends stood waiting for about 5 minutes just to get a re-fill. Terrible service. As well as ignoring you when you were waiting for 45 minutes just to order. read more

This place was scarce of people when we arrived early evening. We planned on eating light. We ordered a hot dog and nachos. The dog was pretty good but nachos were lacking cheese and overall taste. We had great hopes for this one, but, it just didn't happen. We didn't find the friendly service that everyone mentions. The great food.....we didn't find that either. The Buffalo wings were little nubs that were 1/2 the size of chicken nuggets. Not even the dipping sauce was flavorful. I hate giving less then excellent reviews. These folks all work hard. Wednesday is 2.50 chili cheese dogs, really good dogs!!! I didn't want the chili and cheese but it cost more not to get it so I ended up scrapping it on my husbands dog;) After that the dog was delicious especially the bun, it was awesome!!! It's been a couple of weeks since we were in but I just remembered to review. We came in on a rainy Monday. Not much else was open but we're happy that we found Playground. The hostess/server did not seem to be having a great day but did greet us immediately. We had almost the whole place to ourselves at that time so it was nice and quiet. The food was SO GOOD. I'm not usually a big burger person but decided that I'd give it a go and I'm so glad that I did. It was seriously one of the best burgers that I have ever had. Our group also had fries, nachos and hot dogs. All of which were great portions and very tasty. The food was fresh and flavorful. The gentleman who brought out the food was gracious and friendly. Then, the owner came out to say hello and see how our experience was going. He was very friendly and told us some history of the restaurant and sister restaurant down the road (which we also love!) The only reason that I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because the initial service could have been better (but it wasn't awful) and the arcade game was $1 rather than .50 which I would have preferred. :) Go, check it out and order the burger and fries. My previous review was not a comment on the tenders being female but only a statement on those that were present. That being said, those that were present on a Saturday night were not fit to be behind a bar on any night. They lacked the very basic training to tend bar. They had no knowledge of basic drink making or how to work your way down a bar top. There are quality people out there looking for these jobs. Perhaps with the tiniest bit of invest in finding the right people, this place just might make it. Until then don't go there. There were 30 people in the bar. 20 with my party. No reason any of us should have waited 15-20 minutes for a beer. There is just no excuse. read more

Stopped by this place last week during New Year's Day. While most of the restaurants were closed this place was open. The owner says it was just bc of the holiday. The place was tastefully decorated with great ambience. There's a few game machines that guests can play while waiting for their orders and it looks like they have live music as well as karaoke nights. We opted for hamburgers and kosher sausage. Both are delicious. They do need better servers that are attentive. We had to wave a few times to get their attention for more drinks. There was only two customers at the time and a few of them were just gathered in the corner talking. But definitely stop by when you're in the area. read more

Found this place on Yelp. There was no wait. You go up to bar and order food and sit where you want. We had 2 littles with us. Normally I wouldn't eat at a place like that but were not from round here and we were hangry. Thankfully they had some seating outside. Food was good. Burgers were great!!! I loved the chili cheese dog but more the actual dog. You could eat it by itself it was so good. It is a little pricey so I wouldn't necessarily take kids here because they may not appreciate a good burger or food. Hardly dog friendly, not really at all. When we arrived a cute slow older smaller dog howled hello to my dog as we walked by on the narrow patio. A waiter then came out and castigated the old boy's owner for his inability to "control" his poor dog, telling him "if you can't keep your dog under control you're going to have to leave." The situation was anything BUT out of control. To top it off, I found a comfortable spot to sit in at the front of this absolutely dead restaurant (only two other sat tables outside) before being told that dogs weren't "allowed" in the front. At this point I got up and left. Went across the street to Yagas where there were several dogs on the spacious and comfortable patio and an absolutely freiendly dog loving staff. Took a seat in the tabled area- there were very few people at the bar and all the tables were empty, on a holiday weekend, which should have been our first sign. A very dry, unfriendly woman came over and took our order. No one ever came back to check on us until we waved them down and ask for the tab. Very poor atmosphere inside & bad service.
