I've been coming here since I first discovered Playa Bowls and have never been disappointed until my last experience. I cashed in my free playa bowl card after ordering 12 in the last who know how short the time frame and made my own bowl with an acai base, granola, nutella, strawberries, and mango. It seems like the staff here is constantly changing because for as often as I come here there always seems to be a new face and a "new way" of making my 13 dollar smoothie bowl. My bowl this time around was not up to par.. my base was so liquidy that each bite wasn't the normal mouth feel and my granola got soggier quicker than normal. Not to mention, the nutella swirls on top were something of a disaster..it was messy, didn't look appetizing and just all around a disappointment. Excellent service and super fresh ingredients. I ordered online for pick up and it was ready within 20 minutes. I tried their açaí, pitaya (dragon fruit), chia pudding, and oatmeal bowls- all yummy. Their açaí and pitaya-based mixes both had great consistencies like a soft gelato, but they were a little too sweet to me. While they may seem a bit pricey at about $11 a bowl, they're quite filling and each lasted me 2 days. The Electric Mermaid gave me tropical vibes with a pitaya mix topped with kiwi, pineapple, mango, and coconut flakes, while the Nutella Bowl was all the classic goodness of an açaí blend topped with banana and strawberry, coconut shavings, and Nutella drizzle. Both refreshing! Their oatmeal and chia pudding bowls were better balanced in taste (about $8 each). The #6 Oatmeal Bowl was something special with walnuts, figs, banana, and cinnamon. Then the Chia Tella Bowl was my first time having chia in a pudding format and it was like a heartier tapioca topped with fresh strawberries and banana, coconut flakes, granola, and Nutella that I really enjoyed. Their bowls always missing an ingredient or I have been given verrrrryyyyyy little to no ingredients. I also ordered juices twice which I never received. Door dash issued me a credit however the store should have called me and issued an automatic refund or the opportunity to replace it with something else. This location has fell off tremendously. This place gets 2 stars because its usually good, but today was horrible. I ordered a bowl i have ordered and loved before, only for it to be horribly made. The base was melted and chunky. There were barely any strawberries. There was absolutely NO nutella. The granola was powder. There was an absolutely excessive amount of chocolate chips as a way to make up for no nutella!!! ALSO, the day i got the bowl was "free coldbrew day" and there was no way to add the free cold brew to my order online. I figured i would ask the person who made my order. They told me i "did it wrong"and i was supposed to only get the free cold brew while ordering in store. After reviewing the text message from playa bowls which states that i can order in store OR online, i was confused as to why the workers were giving me a hard time. I went to the register and showed the lady the text and how i ordered online and also how i am a rewards member. They debated giving me my cold brew for about 10 minutes, putting up a weak argument about how i was supposed to click the nonexistent "free coldbrew" button. I had to fight my way into winning the debate and the irritated lady at the register finally made me the coldbrew. So this place opened up several weeks ago... inside is super cute- has a beach theme inside ( "playa" means beach in Spanish)... staff was attentive, friendly and helpful.... I couldn't decide if I wanted to have an Acai bowl or a coconut bowl - staff allowed me to sample both. I still couldn't decide - but they told me I could mix both of them so that's what I did- I got Nutella Acai bowl and the Nutelloco for $11. It had the Acai , the coconut blend, banana, strawberries, granola, coconut shreds and Nutella. It was good and it was definitely fresh. Some people eat these bowls for a meal.... Been here a couple of times to enjoy their light and refreshing bowls for breakfast or a snack. The bowls are huge able to split them with a friend or a whole bunch of people all scrapping the bowl for some fresh cut fruit, grains and açaí or dragonfruit puree. I love all the additions that you have in the bowls like slices of coconut, blueberries or other items that can give you a sour or sweeter taste to your creation. You'll be able to pull up a chair inside while enjoying some music though can get loud with the blenders or take your bowl to go and enjoy the bowl as you explore more of the downtown area. They are slower in the colder seasons but I'll be coming here any season when I'm in Millburn. read more

It's not cheap, but smoothie places often aren't and you can taste the quality ingredients and see the thoughtful presentation. A great healthy way to treat yourself! After a day of eating fries and milkshakes in Atlantic City, my friends and I were in dire need of some vitamins, so this hit the spot. Street parking was pretty easy to come by at 11 AM on a Wednesday. The shop was also not crowded so we were able to order quickly. We got three bowls, one per person. I might have found a new guilty pleasure. I have to start off by saying that I've only had one of these type of bowls once, so naturally I was not very familiar with some of the ingredients that they use in their bowls. I only stopped by because my friend had a Nutella bowl and she let me have some, so I was curious. I had no idea what pitaya was, and I had heard of açaí but wasn't sure what it was. Luckily, the girl at the register was incredibly helpful with answering any questions and explaining what everything was. She told me what all the ingredients were and gave me samples of some of the different bases. I wish I got her name so I could shout her out to give her some credit, hopefully next time. The menu has plenty of options, but she suggested that I create by own bowl so I could pick out whatever base and toppings I wanted. I ended up going with a pitaya base, topped with banana, mango, granola, and honey. It tasted great! The fruits were very fresh, and the pitaya complimented well with the granola and honey. They also fill up the bowl, so you're getting a good amount for what you're paying. (Around $10) The place itself is pretty nice. Definitely clean, and it has a nice beach vibe to it. They have decor to match that theme, my favorite is that they have beach planks by the counter with the names of the different NJ beaches. Nice touch for sure. I am shamelessly on the bandwagon of this acai bowl trend. They're so good and nutritious and pretty. BUT WHY MUST THEY BE SO DARN EXPENSIVE?? *internal sobbing* Playa Bowls is a chain but this is the first one that I've been to. It's super cute and I love the interior decorations. There are so many choices for different types of bowls or you can make your own where you can combine any of the bowls. For example if you want both pitaya AND acai, go right ahead. I got the "Electric Mermaid" pitaya bowl because I love dragonfruit. It came with coconut, pineapples, mangoes, kiwis, granola and honey. SO GOOD. I love that it's not super sweet so it's somewhat of a guilt-free meal. I think I would easily eat this as a full meal, I'm not sure what the calorie contents are but the nutritional value is definitely there. In fact, this was my dinner last night and it was totally satisfying. The only guilt I feel is after seeing the price tag but I guess dinner anywhere would cost roughly $10. I know I'll be back. SO. MANY. CHOICES. (so little time) - acai, coconut, pitaya, chia seed, green bowls, you name it. You can also do a custom bowl, so the choices are really endless. There are also signature and seasonal bowls!! I like this Millburn location much better than the one in Montclair - the seating and interior is super cute and I do like the large communal table down the middle of the shop. (Semi preface - I make my own bowls pretty often (at least twice a week), but sometimes having them made for you is a nice change.) Anyway, the menu choices are pretty standard, but my favorite one is the electric mermaid - kiwi, mango, pineapple, granola. For all the choices, though, there are only about 3 toppings including fruit on there. You can add more toppings (50 cents extra), but I do wish there were more variety in the toppings to begin with. Other than that, though, the bowls are HUGE and very filling. Base is a nice creamy consistency. The granola they use is delicious. Price - I feel like $10 is pretty standard pricing for bowls in the US. The bowls at Playa, imo, are definitely worth it considering how filled the bowls are! read more

PROTIP: look at their special list before ordering PROTIP: you can get 1/2 and 1/2! so for example, u can get 1/2 of a green bowl and another 1/2 of an acai bowl type of thing. PROTIP: if you order a customized bowl, if you dont want a certain ingredient in it, they will even ask if you want to sub for something else! definitely take advantage of that and sub in something else from the menu. order at the counter, they'll call your name out when its ready. lots of ample seating indoors and out! dont forget to take some cute pics of your food with their cute decor. I thought the Playa Bowl in Denville was the worst but I guess I was wrong. This is by far the WORST Playa Bowls I have ever given my money to. I ordered two tropical bowls, one for me and one for the hubster. I walk in and ask for a tropical bowl with half chia seed pudding base. They don't have chia. Okay, that's fine. I don't want bananas so please give me more pineapples instead. They did not give me extra pineapples but instead left a hallow space where extra pineapples should have been. I requested that they put more on and they obliged. I shouldn't have even asked because the pineapples were old and disgusting. Playa Bowl is a fantastic addition to the Millburn area and I am extremely excited to see more and more of this chain pop up in surrounding areas. Playa Bowl's is a refreshing treat and an easy entry to the acai bowl craze that is both affordable and delicious. I recall having acai bowls in the past and being extremely dissatisfied. What Playa Bowl does is 'crack-ify' them but creating inspired menu creations to deliver tasteful products that make a perfect pre or post workout or a meal replacement on a hot day. I personally enjoyed the Pink Power (Dragonfruit base with protein powder mixed in, bananas, granola and honey, although I prefer to sub out honey for PB) as well as the standard power bowl (acai base, bananas, chocolate protein, peanut butter and granola). Everything on their menu and every 'base' they offer is unique and delicious and leaves to feeling extremely satisfied (especially on a warm day). The Millburn needed this 'fun' addition to their downtown as an alternative to ice cream/yogurt styled establishments and bagel chateaus. This reason why: Playa bowl can be treated as both a fantastic breakfast or dessert....or lunch and dinner. My only concerns with this establishment is the acai base melts VERY quickly. If you plan on ordering to-go, your meal may be entirely melted within 10 minutes. The service, while informative and kind, take a bit to craft your order.
