First review in a while. After taking a cycling class in the area and having muscle spasms overnight, I thought this was rhetorical perfect time to have a whole food real smoothie with potassium and minerals in it. The shopkeeper was very friendly and helpful. She suggested the Don Don. She asked if I wanted almond or peanut butter. I opted for peanut. The smoothie was nice and thick and tasted really good. I also got a banana chocolate chip muffin. The place is a bit pricey but I give in to that for quality products. The smoothie was $14 and the muffin was $6. I will be back for a smoothie. The ambiance is a quaint small vegan/gluten free shop. I do recommend you give it a try. read more

I will echo the sentiment of so many other reviewers: cute, but expensive!! No, really, it's that I-understand-you-need-to-pay-rent-but-that's-ridiculously-expensive kind of cute and expensive. Visible prices were only on a handful of items, some I asked for, like a small cup of soup: I'm sure it's good, but at $8 something - 'no thank you'. The prices are steeper than Midtown Manhattan during lunch rush hour! My (small) $10 juice, although delicious - and that's where all of these 3 stars come into play - was fresh, relatively "custom" made to my preference, and the color was amazing. But the stars end there. Sure, the cup was PET 2, which is recyclable plastic, but the plastic straw?... Come on super-healthy-super-expensive-healthfoody-lifestyle shop! I don't think I can come back here. I used to come here very often last year but haven't been in a while. Today was my first time back and I ordered my usual without second thought. The price was an outrage. With tax I paid $10.16 for a SMALL smoothie. I think that is outrageous especially if they are trying to keep their customers. This first review comes on the 5 month anniversary of Green Nectar Juicery's opening on September 23, 2013. And I'm surprised I'm the first to review after reading an article about them on NJ.com and after being informed by Tara (the owner) that they were featured in The Star Ledger as well. I'll be the first to admit that I'm probably the last person on Earth who cares about eating healthy. I consume whatever I want and work it off at the gym later. But this place intrigued me. After having some difficulty finding the place due to the lack of sign above the business, Tara greeted us and broke down the concept of her business: keep it healthy, keep it simple, grab and go. All the juices are made and bottled on site and have about a 3 day shelf life (before any nutrients are lost). Actually, I think "enzymes" was the word she used, but it's not like I know the difference. She sounded convincing, so I suppose that's all that matters. A lot of her customers, she said, are hung over people looking for a cure. They have 10 different kinds of juices and 2 different kinds of milks. The prices are as follows: 12 oz juice: $9 16 oz juice: $11.50 12 oz milk: $10 16 oz milk: $12.50 I know. I thought the prices were a little outrageous myself, but when I saw all the ingredients and inevitable labor that must go into these drinks, I sympathized. Of the 12 different total selections from the menu, only about 4 were available: The "Almond Mylk" (that's not a typo), the "Try Citrus," "Beet Poetry," and "Go Tropical." We opted for the "Beet Poetry," which contained beet, carrot, apple, kale, spinach, cucumber, parsley, lemon and ginger, and the "Go Tropical," containing kale, spinach, romaine, cucumber, parsley, pineapple and ginger. Both were delicious, though the "Go Tropical" was a little warmer than I would have liked. Apparently, that's by design for some scientific reason, but I'm not even going to pretend to explain why. Aside from the juices and "mylks," they have an assortment of healthy snacks like muffins, brownies, granola, kale chips and pumpkin seeds. Tara also supports a Newark-based beekeeper by selling his honey and related products on site. All credit cards accepted. Street parking. Limited seating. read more

When entering Green Nectar there is nothing to tell you what they have. There are no signs on the walls with the menus and specials. There are actually no menus at all. When I asked for a business card or a take away menu they did not have any. I thought that they were new so I asked and the cashier said they had been there for five years. This is unacceptable. They have been in business long enough to know that they need menus and business cards. Also they have very little outside presence. I have walked by that store so many times and only on one occasion did I actually notice it. They should have sandwich boards outside saying something to draw people in and they need a more stand out sign. On a brighter note the service is pretty good. The cashier was very nice, she was fast making my smoothie and it was delicious. I really appreciate that she seemed to care about my satisfaction. The reason I said pretty good though was because I went in a second time, hoping that I would get the same girl I had, but she was not there, instead there was a woman who seemed like she just did not care and was too busy to help me. Will I go back? The answer to that is yes, I will go back. I will go back because even though the store is not inviting and invisible outside, the food and drinks they sell are great. The smoothies are awesome, the juice made to go was fine, the pressed juice was fresh (and not watered down), the salads were great (but could be changed up every once in a while), and the soup was absolutely delicious! Would I recommend? The answer is yes, but I would have to give the person very specific information to find the place. Anyway, I would recommend because it has so many great things that can't be found anywhere else around here! It's nice to find a place with real food, real ingredients already prepared and ready to go. The juices are what you'd expect if you juiced them yourself. I've done it many times and by the time I buy all the ingredients and juice it with my own juicer, I've probably spent more money. Then the clean up. Ugh. So their juices seem to be expensive, but that's the raw cost of juicing (pun intended) and I don't have to spend 15 minutes cleaning my $300 juicer... The soups. Damn. I'm not gonna sit home and make soup either. It's really nice to stop in, grab a hearty soup and a green juice and get back to my day. I also appreciate all the other items for sale. Suffering from a severe case of seasonal affective sluggishness, I hauled myself into Green Nectar for an energy boost via clean living. The snug storefront featured a swell grass wall and offered a variety of organic fresh baked goods, nuts, and housemade bars. Disclaimer: I do not eat raw vegetables at all - ever. I selected three juices, the green nectar, beet, and spicy lemon. All juices were freshly prepared that day and came labelled in glass bottles with hand written expiration dates on the cap. For my preferences, the green nectar was short on ginger and heavy handed with parsley. The beet juice was pleasantly tart but could have benefited from extra ginger, as well. The lemon, which is a master cleanse, could have packed more cayenne heat. All around the juices were silky smooth, exceedingly fresh, and did not taste like salad in a cup. This place is admittedly pricy. $12.50 for a large juice is pretty exorbitant. However, they do the juicing right in front of you so you know it's fresh! I love the straight orange juice. It's simple yet refreshing. I'm also a fan of the vegan/gluten free banana chocolate chip muffins! They're $5 but a great snack! My only complaint is that one time they did not have the fruit prepared to juice and I was told it would take fifteen minutes to peel the oranges. That's ridiculous. Fruit should be prepared in the morning before opening. Making a customer wait fifteen minutes for one juice is crazy. Overall though, my experiences here have been very pleasant and enjoyable. I really ENJOYED the juice at Green Nectar. Tara the owner, came out to explain the juicing process, now I understand the high price. But it is really worth it, especially if you don't have a juicer or the time to juice. I purchased the the Green Nectar, the Beet and even had the Kale Chips and Quinoa Bread....Just DELISH!!! In looking for a vegan place, I was excited to see Green Nectar come up in the search results. I remember hearing some hype about it when it first opened. I went at lunch time, there was no one else in the store, not even a sales associate, until they came up from the back. I wanted a quick snack, not a full lunch. The juices are in a low refrigerator on the ground which is difficult to see, they have handwritten initials on the top that I suppose you would know if you were a regular, but for anyone else you have no idea whats in them. They do not have labels on the bottles like some of the pictures might indicate. The top of the bottle doesn't "pop" when you open it. I digress, I picked out this green juice, a small container of turmeric hummus, and one vegan chocolate chip cookie. I asked if the cookie had nuts in it, I was told no. I proceeded to get checked out, and my total for these 3 small items was more than $19. I selected "no receipt" on their device not thinking about it but now wish I knew how much a small cookie costs. Based on their website a juice is $9 (still ridiculous), but that means a hummus and a cookie costs $10! WHAT?! Price aside, the veggies in with the hummus looked limp and I therefore didn't eat any of them. The juice is meh. And as the woman was checking me out, she told me the cookies might contain nuts. On any other day I would have left everything on the counter and walked out but I didn't feel well, was short on remaining time on my lunch hour and just wasn't up for the argument. I would not recommend this place, and I won't be back. read more

Great vibes! MUST check out! They offer excellent fresh cold pressed juices. From the basic greens, to beet and citrus drinks! They have fun names like beet poetry. They serve the best soups- puree of spinach/parsley/zucchini, white bean/green chard, sweet potato and a black bean chipotle. Always fresh and yummy! Also they just added fresh salads with wonderful dressings. And they have an endless list of health snacks from cookies, muffins, granola, seaweed snacks to spreads with maca and mulberry. I didn't learn about Green Nectar Juicery until it was in town for several years. I first stopped in during the winter and enjoyed several types of hot soup---all fresh, healthy and delicious. This spring, I began to explore the cool and refreshing juice-blends. Now, I am addicted to the juices, particularly the Popeye. Recently while up in New England, I ordered two juice blends from health food stores and so hoped they would resemble the Green Nectar Juicery's........not even close! Those experiences convinced me that the Green Nectar Juicery raised the bar and now is the benchmark to which every other juicery must be compared! This is not a fast food venue, as almost everything is prepared upon order, individually and uses only hand-prepared fresh ingredients. this is a quiet, cutely-decorated spot right in the heart of downtown millburn. they have juices and smoothies, as well as other bagged snacks, some baked goods and pre-packaged meals in a mini fridge at the front of the store. however, this place is super pricey. $19 for a small cup of overnight oats and a 12 oz smoothie is pretty absurd, even for millburn. the prices weren't on the menu, which maybe was purposeful, but i definitely would not have picked up that overnight oats cup had i known the cost. i get that healthy food is typically more expensive, but this crossed a line for me read more

The prices are high--the service is awful. Tara makes juice if she feels like it--good customers be damned. My last experience with her moods and bad service was when I called and placed an order. Later that day I went to pick it up and the store was closed--it was still business hours. I then looked at my phone I gotten a text that she hadn't had time to make it. I tried one last time and called again a couple of days later. In a peevish voice she told me she didn't have time to make juice that day. She then hung up the phone on me---needless to say, I will never go back. I had been going there on a consistent basis and expected pleasant customer service--not out and out rudeness. Go to the Squirrel and the Bee where the service is great, the juice is always there, and there isn't a bad attitude to put up with--oh, and the food there is great (healthy), gluten free, and reasonably priced as well! read more

I stopped in Green Nectar Juicery one morning before work. I noticed the smoothie menu on the counter and asked for a smoothie. The woman who was working (she was the only person there) told me that they do sell smoothies, but she doesn't know how to make them. Disappointed, I decided to settle for a juice and asked to see the juice menu. I told her which juice I would like, and she came around the counter and opened a small fridge with pre-made juices. Now, I am even more disappointed because if I wanted a pre-made juice I could've went to the supermarket. She spent about 4 minutes looking through the fridge before telling me they don't have the juice I wanted. I asked if she could make it fresh, and she told me she doesn't know how to make juice, so I left with nothing. What kind of juicery has an employee working alone who doesn't know how to make smoothies or juice?!?! Mind blown. read more

I came in while on my way to the shore for a few days ready to pick up a lot of juice. The sales guy told me they couldn't make me anything and my only option was the pre made juice in the case. Most of the juice types were missing from the case. This also left out the person I was with who can't have ginger. They came in ready to buy a 3 day cleanse but nope! Because they wouldn't make any for us. We even said we could come back in an hour. In the end I purchased 6 juices. They were okay but not good enough for all that. I can't read the good till date on the top, most juices don't have a label so I don't remember what is in it unless I look up your menu. For this price point they need to figure out the customer service. You just missed a few hundred dollar sale because that's all you had and you couldn't read the good by date either. read more
