Coincidentally, I will be going to the Playa Bowls in Burtonsville today for lunch! I love Playa Bowls (see my 5-star review of the Burtonsville one). That's the only location within 10 miles of my home. The only other location of Playa Bowls I've been to was the Baltimore County one by Quarry Lake. Yesterday, I reviewed the out of town P pick in 2025 alphabet series. Representing the runner up to the out of town pick, P is for Playa Bowls. I visited this location on Friday, December 26. I had a deal for a free peppermint iced coffee with bowl purchase. I had visited my parents in PA for Christmas and was coming back into town. I saw this location wasn't too far off 695. I had never been to Quarry Lake and is a nice area. I was here for one of those weird very late lunch around 4 PM, but I wanted the deal and the timing was right. It was pretty dead around here as it was the day after Christmas. I parked in a parallel spot right in the front; they also have a parking lot in the back. Staff was nice. I paid for some strawberry bowl with peppermint to get the free seasonal iced coffee. They didn't have any issue getting the deal to work. I waited at one of their seats near the food station. This location is a lot bigger than the Burtonsville one. They made the bowl first, and then they said we're out of the flavoring for the coffee, so it'd just be a black coffee. I said that wasn't the same as what I wanted or paid for. They apologized saying that their shipments come in on Thursday, but it was Christmas so shipments didn't come. So, it made sense why they were out. But I think perhaps they could've been more prepared and gotten extra shipment on Thursday, 12/18. They did say I could switch out for a smoothie. I said I don't want a smoothie, I'm already having this fruity bowl. He said I could pick any drink I wanted. I got some juice cleanse drink that was normally $8.99. I figured that could be good for me plus I wanted to ideally get their most expensive tier drink in lieu of not getting the iced coffee. The bowl was delicious per normal. Fresh strawberries, banana, granola, chocolate, peppermint, etc. all great. As for the juice drink, it was some cayenne fruit juice. It was kind of weird, had a bit of a kick, not my cup of tea. I drank it, but really would've liked the iced coffee better. Thankfully, I had some water in the car to wash down the strange juice. So, I was kind of annoyed. They should've known and warned me before I paid. I'm not sure I would've gone with Playa Bowl if they had been out of the coffee; that the catalyst to go down there was the free iced coffee deal. In spite of that negative, like Burtonsville location, the bowls are great, staff is nice, and they did try to accommodate with free any drink. read more

I have come to this location numerous times. The service seems to decline. I walked in and happen to spot all the workers seated outside of the prep area socializing amongst one another on cells. The male and 2 others went to the prep area. I ordered 2 pacific bowls with modifications. While ordering I saw a cut up banana that started turning brown and cut up strawberries on the prep area that should be thrown away. It appeared they were going to use them in my bowls. I had to quickly let them know not use them on my bowls. When I did that, the young man had a silent attitude shown by body movement. The bowls came up quickly and correct. The coconut and green bases are my favorite and the smoothies are always great too. These are SO YUMMY, so glad there is one in my area because every time I go, I feel like I've just teleported to the beach! I love to get açaí bowls in the summer at the beach, so having this one near by is a life saver. The inside is so super cute too, it has strong beach and summer vibes. There is also really nice outdoor seating options, which is great on a warm and sunny day! The service was good but nothing amazing, our food came out just how we liked it and in a very average amount of time. I had a disappointing experience at this location. Other customers were being offered a 10% discount because the store did not have blueberries available. When I asked for the same discount, the manager refused to give it to me. What made the situation even more confusing was that the manager suggested I leave a one-star review about the experience. I would have preferred that the issue simply be handled fairly in the store. I hope the business considers applying policies consistently so customers are treated equally. read more

The first time I've tried it was at the Quarry Lake location and I recently visited the Ellicott City location at the grand opening. My favorite bowl is the coco nutella bowl and I add extra fruit to it - kiwi and mango. It's so good and refreshing! They have drink options from coffee to juices. Welp, I'm 3 visits in and I continue to be very pleased... until this evening's visit. Plenty of FREE onsite parking, large sitting/ dining area, free wifi, detailed menu board, points club (Playa Club) for purchases, plentiful outdoor seating... What more could one ask for? Thank Gawd I didn't post the original !! ... the fact that I had time to write an entire review should be telling!! I ordered my Bowl at 7:34pm, I have proof. Rec'd at 8pm, I have proof. I was so hungry!! 8:06pm, JULIE comes over to ask me to leave because they close at 8pm and she had more orders to finish. I used to work in an office in Quarry Lake and I always remember the lunch options seeming plentiful but something always felt like it was missing. Now that Playa Bowls is here, I think Quarry Lake might have found its missing piece - a healthy food option! The inside has seen a major upgrade with bright murals covering the walls, trendy light fixtures, and plenty of spread out seating. The decor alone is really bringing some California vibes to Pikesville! The menu is vast and a bit overwhelming but the good thing is, most everything is customizable. Dairy-free and meat-free eaters will be happy to know that everything on the menu is vegan (except for the honey which can easily be omitted). Even though I'm the kinda girl who would normally pick a bagel over fruit for breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised that the Pura Vida açaí bowl actually left me feeling satisfied without feeling overly full. My sister made a custom, off-menu bowl that had half pitaya and half açaí as the base. We both loved how colorful our bowls were, especially the pitaya which was a beautiful, bright purple color. If you're looking for a healthy option in Quarry Lake, Playa Bowls has plenty to offer and their friendly staff will be happy to whip you up something yummy. read more

My first experience here a few weeks ago was fabulous so I came back and brought one of my daughters. She loved the fun murals on the walls and the pictures of surfing and water below the bar. As I said in my last review, the space is bright, clean, fun and there is a lot of room. They even have two bathrooms that are spacious and clean. The staff are warm, welcoming, helpful and friendly. I got the Acai power bowl (acai base with chocolate, peanut butter, granola and bananas) and my daughter got a strawberry and banana smoothie. The acai bowl was again fantastic. Smooth, soft, sorbet-like texture to the acai and perfectly complemented by the toppings. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is that my daughters smoothie was quite bland and lacking in flavor. I don't know if it was the coconut milk they use, or if the strawberries weren't that flavorful, but it was a bit of a disappointment. I was sorry to miss the Elite event for Playa Bowls so decided to make up for it by getting a bowl on my way out of Owings Mills after a family visit. The wide variety of healthy fruit combos tends toward sweet and dessert-like. But you can choose and add toppings to suit your taste. The bowls are large and I could only manage about half, saving the rest for later. Feeling the need for body renewal, the sever recommended the Booster Bowl, which includes banana, flax oil, peanut butter, granola and chia seeds. It was quite tasty--but beware the Brain Freeze! There's plenty of seating at one of two entrances and along a hallway. In addition, the food is kosher! I'll be back to try one one of the many other bowls, when I'm back in Owings Mills. read more

Hidden gem! This is my go to spot for a guilty free treat. They have the best Açai bowls I've ever tried and you have the option to include protein powder in your base, which keeps you feeling full longer. I am SO HAPPY to finally have a Playa Bowls nearby to me! I have always enjoyed pitaya bowls as well as açaí bowls, or even green bowls. That being said, there are all those AND more featured at every Playa Bowls. They have smoothies and juices as well! I have gone twice since opening; both bowls I got were delicious. I like to keep with açaí bowls myself just because there is nothing else added in the base. My first bowl was the Pure Vida Bowl which has blueberry and strawberry plus a honey drizzle over granola. On my second visit, I opted for the limited time fall offering which was the Jack O Lantern. This bowl had pumpkin granola, pumpkin butter, pumpkin spice, and banana. You really can't go wrong with anything here. They are all made to order using fresh ingredients. There is also the option to mix bases together if you'd like to. The staff was extremely helpful and informed about the menu, which was good because I had lots of questions. I can't wait to come back and work my way through this enormous menu! I've attempted to DoorDash twice from here today and both times my order was missing the add on i paid for and was just strawberries and blueberries. I ordered the Nutella bowl with no bananas, no granola. Mango add, Nutella added. And there was no coconut or Nutella or add ons both times. I'm really late on the smoothie bowl craze, but here am I. I did a slow roll past this spot coming from an appointment in Quarry Lake, and I'm glad that I dropped by. Playa had a beach theme with a pretty chill vibe, even during the bustling lunch hour this particular day. I got the Pacific Green Bowl, a flavorful (and nutritious) kale-based smoothie with strawberries, banana, granola, almonds, chia seeds and honey. Everything worked well together! My only request is to open one in downtown lol I absolutely dig this spot. The wall art looks electric, the lounge area is insta worthy, and the bowls are fresh. When first walking in I tried to take in all of the art and I already knew I would like the place. The menu is a little overwhelming and you might panic a bit if you have people behind you in line but atleast there are no wrong choices! I got the Nutella Açaí bowl because it is my go to, and my partner got an Oat bowl (warm) . We were both very happy with our choices and you can see the specific bowls in the pictures I posted! My partner just wished his bowl also had Nutella lol The area is nice and peaceful. My friends and I ordered online before closing, when we arrived 2 of my friends orders was canceled before closing time. They locked the door on us while my order was in there in the freezer. We knocked trying to explain how my order was ready and all they did was ignore us and not make eye contact or even acknowledge us. A customer was still in there and nicely opened the door and told the employees we had an order to pick up. I was very excited to try this place today, and it did not disappoint. Despite the fact that they were super busy with lines out the door, staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had the Electric Mermaid pitaya bowl, which was beautiful and delicious. All of the fruit was absolutely fresh, and it was no problem to substitute almond butter for the honey topping. i absolutely adore the playa bowl chain but this store does not reflect. the wait is far too long, the predicted order time is never accurate, the workers are rude- screaming foul language at work, threatening to quit, not wearing gloves while handeling food.
