Not the most organized store and I almost thought it was closed because the gates were down but I am happy that I went inside. They have everything you need and they are very helpful with great customer service. Very nice people that work there. They have propane for the grill. I was in and out with a new tank in two minutes. Would definitely come back. Prices seem very good better than Home Depot read more

Hands down the best hardware store I've ever been to. They have literally everything and will help you get what you need, including taking them time to ask understand the project you're working on and suggesting how to make it happen. A vast selection of tools, hardware, and products including household and gardening supplies. I've never left here empty handed and I always enjoy the owners' can-do approach and efficiency in helping customers. It's easy to see why this place remains a fixture of the neighborhood. read more

David and peter are so Respectful and VERY knowledgeable, really nice people even if you have just a question they will answer it with a smile and its not commen with most of the hardware stores . This place is owned by two brothers, and sometimes their mom hangs out. It is the best. Looks like a disaster, but those guys have so much knowledge and there so if fission it. Platz is amazing! Do not be scared when you first walk in. It looks messy, but this place is the real deal! The owners are super nice and friendly! They really know what they are talking about too! Living in an older neighborhood, they know about the many "antique" obstacles in the homes nearby. They will not try to sell you something if they think it will not work. They are also paint mixing masters! Bring them in anything, i.e. a bottle of nail polish and they will make you a can of paint that matches exactly! If you do stop in, bring a picture of the problem, they will help you in a jif! read more

Unreliable. Twice I had to deal with a delivery with them. First time was a hassle with them showing up late with the product. Second time, I confirmed a delivery with them and they kept assuring me it would arrive and we had the time down and they didn't show up. I had to keep calling until someone picked up so I could ask where it was and all they said was it wasn't there yet and so I canceled. Poor service, unreliable, and I don't trust them. I really don't care what response the business posts to my post. Get your act together. read more

Dropped off two vintage table lamps to be rewired in April of 2014. As of October 2014 they have not been finished, nor have the lamps been located. I continue to receive excuses. I do not find the stores chaos charming. I will update when, and if, I actually get my lamps back. Lamps were ready and picked up in November. The sticker dating drop off was mid March. These guys really know their stuff. I cannot tell you how many projects for which they have given me good advice and helpful information. But what I really appreciate is that the will never try and sell you something that you don't need. The other day one of the owners spent 30 minutes explaining to me how I could fix something I already own instead of letting me buying a new version, saving me $60. The only thing that might put people off is that the store is a bit messy, but don't be. The guys still know exactly where everything is. Whatever you ask them for, they find it. The store itself is cool because it has the original interior from the 1920's and a beautiful wrought iron door at the back of the building. You will also occasionally find amusing items from the past still on sale, like a lock for the dial of a rotary phone, which back in the 1970s must have been a hot item among parents of teenagers :-) But seriously, these guys know their stuff and they know the old historical buildings in the neighborhood, so they are an incredible resource of information when it comes to doing home repairs. You might think you're saving a few dollars by going to Home Depot, but you're not when you think about money spent on gas and time spent on running around in the store trying to find someone who can help you, let alone give you good advice. We are truly lucky to have Platz Hardware in the neighborhood!! read more

Stopped in here to match a screw for a vintage piano I am putting together. One of the owners stopped to help me and matched it in 10 secs. A little cluttered and can get busy mid-day, but they really know their inventory and are ready to help out their customers. I will be coming back. read more

This is by far THE BEST HARDWARE STORE on the south end of Ridgewood, and the north side of Bushwick. Peter and his brother are amazing, and so knowledgeable when it comes to answering any questions you might have. They have EVERYTHING you need. Granted, the store is cluttered like a hoarders den, but if they don't have it, they'll gladly order it for you, and have it sent to the store in less time than any major hardware store chain. read more

I don't normally spend time providing comments and reviews but this one deserved my time and effort. I was looking for parts for the toilet I had to fix at home. Home Depot and the people in it were useless. Driving around early evening on a Sunday, most stores were closed and Yelp turned out Platz as being open. I called to confirm and they were. I described the problem with my old style toilet and they said to just bring the pictures so we can figure it out. Normally a professional plumber (which I'm not) would know what to get and be in and out of the store. When I went in, it reminded me of my good friend's hardware store back in my country. Full of everything you can think of and comes attended by very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people. I described my issue, he took a look at the photos I took and explained to me how my ancient plumbing fixtures work. First off, the owner didn't try to sell me anything just to make a sale. After explaining to me the few possibilities, he let me go home, open up a few more screws to get the samples I needed so we can get the right parts. I pretty much would have had to buy another set of parts if I got the first one wrong because it's not re-usable once opened. Second, if we were going to end up replacing the bigger pieces I thought I needed to replace, he said, for the price I would spend, I'm better off buying a new toilet with a tank. Something I can (re)use once I renovate the entire bathroom instead of spending the money now and buy a whole new set once I renovate doubling my cost. That's good advice and something I won't get from the Home Depot. And you know it's not because he wanted to sell me a different toilet. His suggestion actually made sense. Third, once we figured out which size and pieces we needed, he only sold to me the parts I absolutely needed to replace. The ones I can reuse, he didn't try to sell, even though I was willing to buy and replace those too. I could have kept the extra pieces but the owner himself said, once I need them, I won't be able to find them, which is true. He told me to just come back and buy them when I need them. But they were so helpful that I wanted to buy the extra parts and throw them away after just so that I can make it worth their while. The price for the pieces I eventually bought was so not worth all the time they spent helping me. I've been to other local hardware stores and none of them were even close to being this helpful. You had to know what you wanted or needed or you're out of luck getting it. Platz people were very helpful and were not out to sell me the store. They may not have made a lot of sale that day from me but I was definitely sold to coming back to this place for all my future hardware needs. read more

This place is incredible. It is owned by two brothers who are extremely knowledgeable and actually take the time to talk with you about what you're doing. Unlike one of those box stores, they'll spend 15-20 minutes chatting about your project, and then give you advice on how to do it well and inexpensively. My husband and I have minimal knowledge about home improvement, so they could easily up-charge us on extra or fancier parts or tools than we need. Not so. They'll be honest with you about your options and insist that you can return things if you don't use them. And they own the business! A good friend who is a contractor visited the store with me recently during a bathroom renovation. He has been a contractor in NYC for almost 10 years. He said this is one of the best hardware stores, if not THE best, he's ever visited. He was amazing by their knowledge and friendliness. Highly, highly recommend this place. read more

Dont forget to ask questions if you couldnt find things because they might have it in the back of the store or they will order for you. This family owned hardware store has been around for 100 years. Its no wonder since they have great service. I have been there for every home project I have worked on since I moved into the neighborhood three years ago. Every time I go there I am helped thoroughly with any questions I may have. And I am clueless about home repair, so I'm very grateful for their help. They have very reasonable prices, and they sell everything from paints, and hardware to flowers and plants in the summer. read more

This place is a wild mess but somehow everyone here knows where EXACTLY where things are. The folks who work here are the sweetest people. They truly helped me out and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. I was so clueless about what I needed to paint a room and what kinds of paint to get and one of the guys just grabbed all the tools for me and I was set. I also kind of like how messy it is in here. It isn't very functional but I find it endearing. I passed two other hardware stores stocked to the nines and superbly clean but I'd choose this place over anything because they're so kind. read more

Totally appreciate these guys, Dave in particular. In the midst of assisting every customer who walked in the door with patience and kindness, he got really into my table refurbishing project with me, gave me options on every angle even though I'd come in with some crafty ideas of my own. He wasn't sales-y or pushy and found me everything I needed, plus shared his perspective on different finishing options and tricks of the trade. I admittedly love hardware stores, but you rarely get this kind of service and respect. I felt like all was well in the world when I left. Highly recommend. read more

They are seriously amazing. Most knowledgeable people I have ever encountered. I came in really upset I am moving and of course the day before damaged paint on the wall of my room. So I went in and they let me borrow the pantone color sampler to find my perfect match. Then they made me a small thing of paint to touch the wall up with. But the best part was after I mentioned I was moving the owner INSISTED I take some free boxes to help me move. That kind of customer service and care is impossible to find in NYC but Platz has all that and more. read more
