This Platos Closet is a total SCAM. Not sure if yal are familiar with the controversy behind Platos Closet on social media (tiktok, insta, etc. look it up, u will thank me later) but this place will make you feel like total s*** if you are under the age of 25, look older than 20, or don't dress like you are still in high school. So this happened yesterday, I walked in with a bag filled with designer goods and only two articles of mens clothing. (BTW I work for a luxury retail company) So I HAVE high end quality products AND they are on trend, including tops from this exact store, and let's not forget a few pieces that weren't even used and had the tags on. Anyway...some older blonde lady with a striped pink work out jacket and pony tail took me in and as soon as she took my bag and I walked towards the racks, I over heard her and some girl with a brown top say the word "mature", mind you they haven't even opened my bag yet. I was being hopeful at first, giving these people the benefit of the doubt. Then, while looking at mens wear which looks like dad style collectively, they call me over. I walked towards the register and the girl tells me that they were only able to take this top, which was the one mens sweater from the entire bag!! Forget the designer brands, the crop tops I bought here a month ago, unused pieces....they chose the dad looking sweater. She's like, we will get this top for like four dollars. FOUR DOLLARS. and it was an unused Colombia mens fleece sweater... I'm like whhhaaaat? I said, um- I have designer in this bag... and she was like yeahhhh these are "mature" for our store, but you can go to this one thrift store in McKinney and I was like you know what, NO. And she gives me my bag and I procede to leave with my peices. I know my peices will sell amazing at the Real Real or Threadless or whatever. But this place will judge you, will make you feel terrible, and looking at this place their selection had Shein tops from the GRINCH lol like seriously this place needs education. These people need to be educated and HUMBLED on style, trends and most importantly, quality. I'll never come here again. So save yourself the stress and don't sell here unless you want to feel like s****. Donate your clothes to charity or other thrift stores. It's a no for me. read more

I came here to sell clothing, I had a couple pairs of jeans that were designer and had never been worn. The place is what you would expect, it's full of clothing and somewhat busy even considering the time of day. My experience selling my clothing was moot; after waiting for thirty minutes, they said they didn't want the articles I offered because even though they were trendy, the sizes weren't desirable. I get it... why buy something if you can't sell it? I was annoyed, but it wasn't their fault. It's gotta suck having to deal with people everyday that bring in things they believe are with a lot, only to have to tell them "no" or "we can only offer you 4 bucks". I had a bit of an attitude when I left, but it was my wrongdoing and I should have been more pleasant. Overall, I'm not really a "Plato's Closet" kind of person, but I think they place is pretty cool. It's a great opportunity for those that no longer need designer clothing to offer those garments to others that can buy them at a lower price. They seem to take care in making sure what they buy is worthy of reselling, this is a good thing for those that will shop there for great prices. The place was pretty clean and the staff was friendly even though they were busy, and seemed to have great attitudes. It's kind of weird writing a review of a place that didn't give me what I wanted and still giving them 4 stars, but they are good at what they do, and for those that are looking for this niche, this place is a great option. read more

I had high hopes for Plato's, I really did. Now don't get me wrong there were tons of clothes; however, just picking through some of the brands I knew the pricing was just the same if not more, so that was a no. I did a quick browse and ended up only getting a nice winter vest, which was retailed at $42.00, the tag was still on it, for only $15! I did end up signing up for their reward points program by phone but the rewards were a bit steep. I believe she said 200 pts for ONLY $5 off, what the heck? That's being $1 a point...I highly doubt I will ever spend that much. To be honest, I doubt I will come back to shop although I do need to clean out my own closet lol. read more

I recommend Plato's closet.! For one they run big for women's shoe size, i was very pleased with that. They go up to 11s in women! The one in Frisco and Allen does not and that's disappointing. Frisco highest shoe size is a 9. Same for Allen as well. Plato's closet is always clean and organize. The staff helps a lot and aren't lazy. Very friendly and always welcoming someone in. I do think that Platos closet has more purse options then the other places. Allen, McKinney and Frisco ... their prices are overly dramatic. Their prices aren't really that reasonable but I feel like Plato's Closets prices are spot on. Last, but not least the clothes option. They do a really good job on organizing the clothes and the sizes. The one thing I like about Plato's closet is that they have plus size options. That's something that other locations don't have and I feel like plus size clothes should be in more stores! Anyways, I always find something to go with my outfit and that's in style ! For example, I found Jordan ones at this location! I even bought a bag to go with it. I paid $50 for the Jordans and they're actually more expensive. The purse was $7. I love thrifting and finding brand name treasures for cheap. However my visit was a bit of a letdown; all I remember seeing were poor-quality, fast fashion pieces from Forever21 and H&M. On the plus side, the prices were decent; some sweaters go for only $6. Pants for $10-16. Customer service was also excellent. However, the rewards program is a joke; you have to spend $200 just to get $5 off. read more

I worked at this place. Not only do they in the interview claim they "don't like drama" they will fire people do to "not being a good fit". There is people that work at this store and want to be called by pronouns and different things but won't respect if you wanna be called by a nickname. This place is going downhill quickly. Also mangers and staff will talk badly on other peoples names. Also staff there will take things out of donation that they didnt give people money for. they post starting at 16 an hr but be ready to start at 9.50 an hr and as you move up (which takes weeks because they say they will train you and don't) you only get a 50 cent raise. the store manger has only owned the store for under a year and dosnt know how to run it. they will hire you and ask you to be a key holder and not let you know you have to work Saturdays, all and all this store is going downhill and i don't recommend working there. prices are okay on things but they target certain people. the plato's in frisco is run so differently.This place is a no go. read more

First visit. "Laura " was about as "politely " rude as she could be. We walked in ( teen son ) , I sat @ the door with a clear view and eat. Within on minute one of of ladies made mention of how "slow" things had been because people only come in to sell to pay rent and bills . There is my teen son looking through the racks for some "pants" and one one could or would ask if he might need help. You know, to make a sale? I eventually ( 5 mins or so ) make my way to counter , Laura keeps doing her "job" and a while half way looks up and stated, " did you have a question "? Humm Laura, well I walked clear o we here, maybe , just maybe , I have one?? She proceeded to walk over and stare the selection was very "large" after I ask for help of where might the 32/34 might be? Needless to say I don't walk clear across the middle section of the floor , I sit back @ the entry to allow my teen his choices. He came with not one piece , and once we are leaving she or any of them, look up however I make it a point to stop, say thank you and asked her name. This is 2020 & post Covid- Folks , wake-up! Today, I went to the Plato's Closet in Plano, because I had previously had a negative experience with the Dallas location, but my experience today confirmed, for me that Plato's Closet doesn't seem to buy from African American sellers.  I tested the water by only bringing in 25 pieces of the 100 new blue jeans, jackets, dresses and blouses, they told me it would be 35 minutes, but within 10 minutes they lied and said the new jeans were faded, some has never been worn and still had price tags on them.  This is the second experience that I have had with Plato's Closet.  The same items they said they could not buy from me, were the exact same items hanging in both stores.  When I dropped the basket off, I went through their store and one red dress was the exact dress I had in my basket.  It appears that if you are African American, they don't want to do business with you!  I would give a 0 rating, but it isn't listed. I just thought you should know that I have 100 pieces and they refused to buy any of the 25 that I took in the store.  The jeans were barely worn so I know they lied to me, some had never been worn so how could they be faded?  This is unacceptable and just wrong! read more

Don't visit this location I had really great items in excellent condition (all current trends), I was told 45min ended up being 3hours when I arrived the gal in front of me had her ENTIRE bag sold!!! They did not turn away a single item I saw some of her shoes were in the worst condition stained and gross looking... after they paid her out they gave her a big hug it was obvious she was a friend and and had "privileges" .... I waited for 3 hrs for a $10 buy. I went to a different location and I was offered over $60?!??! It's obvious that this location favors friends so if you want a good buy I suggest you befriend a worker at this location. read more

I walked in with a bin that had maybe about 30 items of clothes, that was probably about a $200 value. The clothes were in very good condition and were name brand. They took maybe like 5 items and left the rest for me to take back. They gave me $11 dollars, 11 like that whole bin costs more than your paycheck. I don't get it you are setting your self up for no profit. This place is a wast of time if you want to make any money. Your better of trying to sell somewhere online. DO NOT GO HERE! They don't look at all your clothes you bring in! My daughter had brought in very trendy stuff from madewell, topshop, steve madden, free people, urban outfitters. They didnt even look at anything at the bottom of the tote bag she brought. I could tell because the clothes were not unfolded half way down the bag we brought in. And let's not start with the new manager. I have brought new items in season with tags still on them and purses with tags still on them but they will take the worn clothes over newly purchased items....what a joke. They take forever! Plato's Closet Plano is located in a shopping plaza near a Clothes Mentor. Plenty of parking in a large parking lot. The store is a little bit rundown, but customer service is always great. Sometimes there are good finds for basic clothing items and they have plenty of clothes for girls and boys. Selling is hit or miss, but they'll often buy jeans and current brand names. Their website lists brands and items that they're looking for, which is helpful. If you don't want back the items that they denied, then they can donate it for you for free, which is a bonus. In regards to selling your clothing, shoes, etc... do not go to this location in Plano! I brought in a bag of clothes all in style and in great condition. They took 5 minutes and said they only buy "clothing that is in style", and did not buy one piece of mine. So I took it to the McKinney location and they bought the entire bag! I should have read the reviews about the Plano location before going because it clear in the reviews that I'm not the only one this happened to. To top it off they are rude. DO NOT SELL YOUR CLOTHING HERE. They rip you off. Today I walked in with bags full of clothing, which included all brand name items, primarily Forever 21 and H&M. They told me it would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up being an hour. Among the items i had to sell was a brand new $150 Forever 21 Dress, not damaged, not used, with tags. They offered me $4. Four dollars for a $150 brand new dress. I sold them about 10 other clothing items and only got $17. Not only is this store a rip off, but the items they sell are NOT in good condition. I constantly found holes in several clothing items, along with stains on shoes. There is a reason their previous location has a low rating on yelp. I have never received my items worth here and I will never visit Plato's again. read more

A great place to go to not only sell different clothes and accessories like costume jewelry, purses, baseball caps, and sun glasses. The wait is usually about 30 minutes and they will give you an estimate. They mostly accept items that are in style or new just to warn you. In addition it is a great place to shop at a bargain for brand name items. Now it's not as cheap as a thrift store per se, but definitely less expensive than like a Dillards or JC Penny's. They have dressing rooms to try on things with a pretty good selection of guys and girls clothes. The service is always excellent as you are greeted right when you when walk in right away. Don't waste your time trying to sell clothes here. I was racially profiled the minute I walked through the door. Vanessa is racist and has a terrible attitude. I had items barely worn and her excuse for not buying the items were because they were discolored, stained, or had holes in them...which none of them were! I went to another location and they bought every single one of my items! The ladies treated everyone who walked in the door all the same I notived. It was an hour and thirty minute wait with 8 names ahead of me and all of us had large full baskets so that's very reasonable wait. I got $56 for my basket they took about a third of it which I wear mainly forever 21 normal brands. And two old Michael kors straw style bags (not leather) and one pair heels. That was more than I expected. I only expected $25 and maybe a less than half of what they accepted from me to be bought. I'm pretty happy. The Plano one is not the best atmosphere but the McKinney one is amazing!!! Regardless the prices decent. The lady at the McKinney location, huntington, was SO kind from the moment my sister and I walked in. At check out , noticed I was wearing some Kendra Scott earnings and showed some Kendra's they just got in, because she thought I'd like them. so glad she showed me, I ended up buying! I've never been in this location before so I didn't know what to expect, but I came around 1 on a weekday so it was sorta packed. I guess because of summer! But I came in to sell clothes, and it was pretty simple. I was greeted as soon as I came into the door and was asked to log into a tablet to get in line and checked in. I dropped off three large bags and left while I was waiting for a text that they completed the sale. I came back as soon as I got the text and got $25 and some change for a small percentage of the items. Not bad, but I decided to donate the rest and they took care of that. I will shop here with my daughter, and I have made note of a few experiences. I overheard an older women who worked there, maybe a manager, cussing out the employees one day. It was very disappointing to hear because most of the employees are young girls. Once again, I came back with my daughter, and heard the same kind of language as well as yelling! This is not appropriate behavior and I don't like my 11 year old daughter to witness such behavior. It's sad because she loves getting the name brands and I love the prices! Worst Customer Service Ever! Brought some clothes to sell and the lady told me that they were taking certain items. I had a lot of items that she had mentioned. Brought in lots of designer handbags and wallets to sell: Dooney and Bourkes, Fossil, Vera Bradley, Coach, etc. While I was waiting for them to price them for me, I was looking at the other handbags that were for sale in there. most of their bags for sale were cheap, had fake leather peeling off of them, and many had makeup/residue on them. I figured "wow if theyre buying these bags, theyd jump to buy my lightly used designers off me." Nope. they didnt buy a single one. I had about 15 bags I wanted to sell and not a single one taken. If you want high quality items and people to actually buy your stuff, take the extra few minutes and drive to an Uptown Cheapskate. read more
