This location has a decent selection. Their prices used to be much better, it seems they've increased pretty dramatically over the last couple years (without increasing payouts.) Kinda...creepy?? I've been into a Plato's Closet location or two before, they all seem to be staffed with apathetic teenagers (which goes very much with the territory) and are very selective when choosing clothing to buy from sellers but somehow never seem to have trendy clothing for sale. Selection aside, I remain a very optimistic thrifter, so I found myself at the Draper PC location. I searched a while and gathered a few things to try on, and a young man unlocked a dressing room for me. Here's where I ran into problems. Anytime I walk into a dressing room or restroom, I do a quick look to see if there is anything off (we've all seen those internet videos) - I check the mirrors to see if they are actually one way glass, and I give a glance up to see if any of the security cameras in the store might have a view into the room before I start taking off clothes. Usually I never see anything. But today, I saw not one, but 4 holes in the ceiling tiles over my dressing room stall. WTH?! Huge red flag. Needless to say, I did not feel comfortable undressing and only tried a few items on over my clothes. While trying on clothing, I went to put on a body suit (a shirt that snaps down around the crotch for those of you who don't know) and stopped when I noticed a lot of - eh - feminine discharge caked up on the crotch area of this body suit. A lot more than would be left behind by just trying it on in the dressing room. That left me with a lot of questions: Are the clothes washed before they are sold? Are they examined before being hung up again? Are there signs about how to try on certain items of clothing? I left the dressing room and handed all my items back to be restocked and let the lady know that this item in particular needed to be washed and I had not tried it on. Thankfully I had found a pretty nice snowboard jacket, so while I was checking out I asked the cashier if she was aware of the holes above the dressing rooms. She acted confused and asked the lady who I had just talked to if she knew about the holes, she said no. I explained to them there were holes in the ceiling tiles above the dressing rooms; receiving blank looks I explained this was disconcerting from a possible surveillance perspective. Immediately after learning of the existence of these holes, the first lady I spoke to fervently and confidently stated there were definitely no cameras placed behind the holes that she had just been made aware of. I can't say with any degree of certainty whether there were cameras there or not. I simply don't know. What I do know is I was creeped out by this inexplicable circumstance, and it would be advantageous for this business to put their customers at ease while they are in various states of undress. I don't know the manager, owner, maintenance person, or any other person who has access to this building; I have no reason to assume everyone has my best interests in mind. I also don't think it is right to teach young people to ignore possible signs of exploitation, and I wish my observation had been met with more concern and a plan of action. When it comes to stripping down, no weird holes in the ceiling is the best policy. read more

I started shopping here in 2004, I used to come here weekly and find great stuff. About 3 years ago this location started going downhill, I stopped coming regularly and would just stop in when I was driving by. Since they changed I worship recently I have only been in twice and it's gone to trash now. They have ugly clothes, prices are way too high and they have so much crap Lululemon... you know just because it's Lulu doesn't mean you should buy it. They have shrunken and pilled clothes all over them place. I'm totally fine to never return here. read more

This place has always been so bad at keeping up with customer service. They post stuff online for followers to hold and purchase and I commented on a post for an item and they completely skipped me and went to the next person which was super rude and I commented letting them know which they did not respond to. It was very clear I had commented for it first. I also purchased something from them online and it took almost 4 days for them to let me know when to pick up, I am still waiting to hear back from them. Never had a good experience here and the staff is not that friendly either. They need to make some major changes. read more

BUYER BEWARE-Scammers and CRIMINALS AT THIS STORE- They tried to steal a necklace from us and we found it in their damn cash register!! Wish there was a zero star option. my girlfriend and I stopped by a few weeks ago to see if they would buy any of our things - Well after being told they didn't want any of my stuff but did want one pair of jeans and boots from my girlfriend , they told us we could donate recycle the rest.. we told them that's ok we'd take them ourselves to "Savers" .. before we left my girlfriend then asked why they didn't want the other items., just out of curiosity.. well The gentleman said he didn't know why, he then said that we should come back a different day when some one different is working and maybe they'll like them better ... "they'll like them better" ??!? a matter of their own personal opinion, not a matter of sell- ability to the store?-you would think they'd have company wide guidelines on what is selling and what isn't... but apparently employee personal opinions of your wardrobe is how they make choices there. well that was a little strange since I saw two items in their store that were the same shirt/ shorts just different size of my clothing that I was selling ... we were confused and a little upset but overall thankful they looked at them .. BUT THE FINAL STRAW is when my girl friend got our items back she decided to open up a box of her jewelry they claim they didn't want (necklace and earring combo that we were going to sell or pawn separately if they didn't want it) only to find the packaging ripped open (it was brand new) and the necklace missing- when questioned about it the employees said "oh yea that employee is on her lunch break" my girlfriend demanded they go get her. When they did ,that employee was very nervous and essentially played dumb until we questioned her ourselves . After which She just happens to look in the cash register and wouldn't you know it, the necklace was there under the cash drawer!! How and why do you suppose a necklace is ripped from a box and hidden in a cash register!!??? She stole the necklace, told us they didn't want it hoping we wouldn't check the box as I'm sure most people don't.. But we did... They are lucky we didn't call the cops and report theft of personal items and press charges on that employee or the whole store. we were too in shock when we left and luckily the other employees seemed empathetic to our situation to calm Us down or I'm sure i would have had time to process it and call the police . I am extremely frustrated from my last few experiences at this store. I went in during the afternoons when the store is almost empty, and it took the buyers almost and hour to look through one laundry basket of clothes! I asked multiple times when they would be finished with the clothes, and each time they told me no more than 10 minutes... Well maybe I'm doing my math wrong, but I'm pretty sure there are way more than 10 minutes in a hour. Secondly, I am extremely disappointed in the way the employees choose to purchase. I understand you cannot buy everything. Clearly I also know that everything in my basket is not able to be purchased. But when I see almost the exact same styles and labels on your racks, I do not believe you when you tell me that the 'labels and styles are old,' when almost exact replicas sit on your racks, and I purchased the items less than a year ago... styles don't fade THAT quickly! Also, if a customer asks you if you buy out of season, BE HONEST. It's okay to say that you don't. If you're trying to get rid of winter items to clear room for summer items or vice versa, it's okay to say that! As a seller I entirely understand... I mean, I'm clearly ridding myself of winter/summer clothes too! The stores also ask that you bring your clothes in freshly laundered. I clean my clothes before I bring them into you, so please don't throw them on the dirty sales floor! I watched an employee go through my sale items and just toss them on the floor when she was finished evaluating them. That's not okay. I took a few hours of my time to clean them, and you could have taken the extra few seconds to be courteous and fold them back up and place them in the laundry basket I came with if you did not want to purchase them from me. Especially when I am one of three customers in the store, and the only one trying to sell to you. And if you don't want to take the few seconds to fold them and place them back into the bag or basket, at least lay them flat on the counter or in the bag/basket. It's truly annoying when my freshly laundered clothes come back to me, after far too long of a wait, covered in the dirt from the floor and wrinkled. I do not trash the clothes in your store, I do not throw them on the dirty floor or wad them up. I pick them up if I knock them off the hangers, and when I try things on, I put them on the return rack, appearing just as they did when I took them off the rack. Part of being interested in fashion and clothing is knowing how to take care of them. I love the ideology behind Plato's Closet. I love that I can share the pieces of clothing from my closet that I've loved, and have just outgrown in size or in personality. I love that my clothes can have a second life and someone else will love them as much as I did. I **do not** think that the employees of Plato's understand this. Usually I love this place, but today when I went to sell my clothes, I don't think they even looked through my bags. All the clothes were in the same order and same bag they were originally in, and they only took two pairs of SHEIN shoes. Love this place! AWESOME deals. I got 5 pairs of shoes and Express jeans, total of $27 (+ tax). One of the shoes were Jessica Simpson heels, which were just $7! The deals here are incredible. They even had a half of clearance, so these simple wedge shoes for $5 ended up being $2.50. AH! I didn't have time to even look at everything else except the shoes and the jeans! One complaint, the cashiers take foreverrrrrr. Pretty messy counter, mostly because they've got more business than they have employees. Nice girls though, just slow. Worth the wait! read more

***Don't go here if you are a big girl, because they don't take sizes bigger than at least an 11. I was very disappointed in Plato's closet and was actually insulted. I wanted to purge my closet, maybe make some extra cash in today's world (I wasn't expecting much because I've read that they usually take things for 60% or so of the original price) But mostly I want to help my fellow big girls out. I brought in clothes from high school. I was a big girl in high school. Still am. And I grew out of these clothes. The rude girl told me the sizes were too big (because apparently there aren't teens and young adults who are a size higher than a 11). I walked out of the store with my clothes and cried in my car for 10mins. And later on in the day when I called (because I couldn't stop thinking about how wrong it was) to figure out why big sizes are not bought for the store the girl played innocent and denied she had ever said that. You don't know what it does to a girls self esteem, especially a teenage girl, when she goes store to store, fitting room to fitting room and nothing fits her. This brought me back to that awful high school feeling. There would have been some happy girls who aren't below a size 11 that would have been able to buy great clothes, from great designers that are sold in places like Dillard's, Loft, and Macy's, nothing too fancy, but still good material that would last for a very long time, could buy at a reduced cost, and some still had the tag on! They also told me that they were out of style.... I had boughten some of them this year... and when I took a look at their clothes they looked like they belonged in Claire's or Justice for Girls stores. They don't sell to young adults. My wife in I were in salt lake yesterday so we dropped off some clothes to sell. They didn't call us until the next day and so I drove an hour to get them today and got there around 8:15 (45 minutes before they close) and I was one of only two customers in the entire store with two employees working. I talked to Courtney, and I have never before met someone so lazy that they would be flat out rude to a customer just to avoid working. She refused to let me pick up the clothes my wife and I dropped off yesterday because I didn't have the receipt. She told me I needed to bring ID if I didn't have the receipt, so, having planned ahead, I showed her my wife's ID. She then changed her mind and said she wouldn't let me take the clothes unless my wife was the one to take them out of the store. I had my wife on the phone on face time, had her ID with me, and when I offered to show her a literal picture of the receipt to prove we had it, she refused saying she would need to be in person. She refused to give me any valid reason I couldn't carry the clothes out of the store instead of my wife, she just mockingly repeated back the same words to me every time I asked for an explanation why I couldn't have my clothes back. Immediately after walking away, she turned to her co-worker and started laughing. As if being rude to a customer in order to avoid doing your job is funny. I would be very upset if I found out one of my employees treated a potential customer the way Courtney did. I would never recommend a business that is willing to hire employees like this. read more

This Platos Closet is SO much better than the Taylorsville location in regards to selection, cleanliness, and customer service. Taylorsville is a complete waste of time (I wrote a separate review for that location). I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted immediately upon entering the Draper location, and they looked through the clothes I brought in to sell and processed the payout in 10 mins flat. The store was also very busy, so you can imagine how impressed I was. If you plan to sell anything at Platos Closet, you need to remember that the employees are not fashion experts. Working a part time job at a second hand store won't make anyone a fashion expert, so try not to be offended when they choose to not take certain items. It's easy to assume that they are turning up their noses at your style, but I think it has much more to do with other basic rules and quotas they are following on behalf of management about what they can take and how much to pay. If you have a designer item that is in good condition and worth a good amount, sell it on EBay. If you're looking for just some quick cash and to get some items out of your closet, then Platos could be one solution. Just don't be disappointed if they don't take everything or pay very much even for nice items. read more

All the negative reviews made me scared to go sell here but I figured might as well try. and I was pleasantly surprised the staff was friendly and very quick to help. The wait was only 20 minutes they gave me the option to donate the clothes they didn't buy and I loved it. I feel like there are lots of negative reviews to deter someone from selling but if you are already cleaning your closet out might as well make a little money off of it. Most the clothes I sold were hardly or never worn and I feel as though I got a fair price. Honestly I had already been to one location to sell and decided to come in to another since different areas have different needs I'm glad I did. Plus Courtney was very sweet and efficient. WARNING! They steal your items! Watch the staff as they go though your clothing, DO NOT WALK AWAY! Wait at the desk until they finish reviewing your clothing! I brought in a huge basket of clothing, all of which were brand name. In my basket I had included a pair of really nice BeBe jeans. The employee that took my items was rude and unfriendly, and made me feel really uncomfortable!! I walked the store and waited for them to look though my items. When I was called up they unkindly told me that they not interested in any of my items. I took my items home and shoved the whole basket in a corner of my closet. A couple of weeks later I asked my friend if she wanted to look though my items and offered that she should take the pair of BeBe jeans! We looked though the basket and didn't find the jeans. We took out each individual item and looked at each brand, NO BeBe jeans!!! The employees and stolen them, and then rudely told me they didn't want any of my items!!! BE CAREFUL if you have items that are valuable, just make sure you are watching!!! This Plato's closet is not a good store! The employees are not friendly and they obviously are dishonest as well! I brought in a whole suitcase of clothes. Not everything was great, but all the labels were name. They turned EVERYTHING AWAY. They refused to buy even one thing although there were some very solidly nice pieces in there. It wasn't the right "style." I bet if I had taken in those especially nice pieces alone they would have taken them. Also, I looked around a bit while I was waiting and the clothes were unimpressive. Plato's closet is usually one of my favorites but this store is SO BAD! It's worth it to drive to Orem to go to a different location. This store smells, very strongly like a thrift store or an old closet. Regardless of going through their selection 5+ times it's never a good shopping choice. Selling clothes at this location is also particularly rough. They do not treat your items with respect. A woman in front of me was complaining that the employees ripped her clothes while "looking" through them. They took tags off of 6 of my items yesterday. Since this has happened before I decided to ask their manager if she could do anything to help. Rather than talking to me herself, she had another employee tell me that because they didn't have a video of an employee intentionally ripping the tags off that they couldn't help. I don't think anyone ripped them off, I think they throw around, step on, and stack the clothes far too crazily. There were also 3 items unaccounted for. Shirts that were in my bag when I brought it, shirts they did not buy, but mysteriously didn't make it back with the rest of the clothes. Very fishy read more

I've been to other locations in other parts of the country and liked it well enough. Here not only did they not really look at my clothes, but when the girl explained why it she was extremely rude and talked down to me. While they were "looking" at my clothes I browsed their selection, and I was really unimpressed. There were stains or snags on many of the items. So I personally didn't buy the girl saying my stuff had too much wear, because it looked better than the crap they were selling. I sold 2 new sweaters a pair of loose pants new with tags 3 summer dresses and 3 denims for $31. How? Like I said I dropped the ball and should of rejected the offer. I've had some bad experiences here before with the girls being rude and feeling like they didn't even look at the stuff I brought in because they didn't want to, but I just took in a huge tote of clothes and they took 90% of what I brought in, so I'm very happy that I brought my used clothes in instead of just taking them to the DI. read more
