I rate my experience a 5 star cause I found so much cute stuff there all the employees were super helpful and nice

Bigger than the other location but often not as clean and the selection here isn't as good here.

I used to work at a Plato's closet in California so I know how training and processes work. This staff is rude and very slow with the buy process. They're chitchatting with each other while eye-rolling any time someone comes in with a buy. I understand, as I left since I hated the job but I never treated customers this way. The girl doing my buy had my 2 bags for 40 minutes in front of her. And didn't buy anything.. should've easily been 10-15 if it's going to be an all pass. I'm a little disappointed since I did bring in lightly worn clothes with pretty good brands. I don't take it personally because half of the random things on the rack make me question their training. I wouldn't recommend coming in unless you want to wait hours and be judged in the process. The only 2 helpful/nice workers were the blue haired girl-seemed like a lead, and the newer girl with short straight hair. read more

The staff isn't all that polite or helpful. You are kind of left on your own to figure it out. They also do not take anything of real value. I was told they would take a gold ring but would sell it "for like $2", which I find hard to believe. Overall just not worth bringing things in to sell. I had higher-end items and was told that they don't sell them. Which leaves me with more questions than answers. Do they just accept cheap, fast fashion that falls apart? No clue. Worst experience. I have sold here before and I have had all clothes that are in very great condition, and they took nothing. The customer service is awful. I have gone through some of there clothes they have which have been torn or so out of date. Just not sure how they are willing to take that but will not take brand new in style clothes read more

I made an appointment and took in just-washed or cleaned Eddie Bauer down jackets, brand name and lightly worn jeans, really nice recently purchased cocktail clothes. Everything was carefully folded since they said no hangers. I returned at the time stated and received $10 and my items dumped in a jumble pile. It was as if they thought I had brought in trash! I was shocked. When I questioned what item they were paying me $10 for, the person at the desk said "How should I know?" I had shopped there occasionally with friends and felt that items I had to bring were in keeping with the type and quality I saw and bought there. But I will NEVER go back. And I tell EVERYONE about the rude experience. Too bad I had to give them even one star. read more

They sell cheap, fast-fashion clothing with very little to choose from in regard to actual vintage or wearable stuff. Everything is from Shein. I do enjoy shopping at plato's closet because I can find relatively nice, brand name clothing items and accessories at a large discount. The employees were all very friendly and helpful, and wearing masks. I don't think I would recommend selling here, though. On several occasions, I've brought in large collections of decent, nice items but only one or two were selected, if any at all. If I could even get $ 5.00 back from trying to sell items there, that would be a lot. Other then that, the store is a nice environment with good prices for clothing, shoes and accessories. read more

Tbh, I've been in other stores, this location.. they judge you on how you look. I've had two sales associates girls walk by me without saying a word, and they approached a guy in his early twenties, greeted him. While they kept eyeing me down, I mean, I'd rather shop where they Associates make you feel welcomed. I saw some nice shirts, was going to PURCHASE WITH MY DEBT CARD, but they thought I was going to run out with items. Just buy your things Full Price. read more

I found several beautiful dresses here, including one that I wore to my graduation and one professional one. One of the dresses did have a small rip on the seam, but fortunately I noticed it before I bought it and they discounted it. I will definitely be a repeat customer here. read more

I think the concept of Plato's Closet is good, but don't go in there expecting to make money. Usually when I go they only accept half of my stuff and what they do accept is at a very low dollar amount. Sometimes I feel I can get more claiming it as a tax write off. But if you need quick cash and have some stuff you want to part with then this place is for you! read more

wow talk about a waste of time..... OK they did not want tobu the things I brought but.... I ppurposely arranged everything in a specific order and it was given back to me the same way, except that I heard about the way they do things and placed paper in between items, so unless you knew they were there ........bottom line they did not look. First time here was a few months ago and will NOT be back. I showed up in my work uniform and took a bag of brand new clothes in. The employee basically said they only take clothes from people who look like they belong in a designer store. Did not appreciate being talked down like this by an employee. Without getting too detailed about my line of work, let me just say that I spend a ton of time telling business owners, repeatedly, that online word of mouth is a conversation that they can and should be engaged in. While customer service is indeed the heart of any consumer experience, this internet thing is a new animal, and it allows people like me, for better or worse, to speak up about those experiences. Our experiences at this business, Plato's Closet, and the engagement by management with their online reputation, are a perfect example of how to not only respond with class, but also proactively listen and implement solid results. Basically the story goes like this. On a few occasions, we took our teen to this place for back-to-school shopping trips. Each time we received uppity looks from the employees and disinterest, hence, I wrote a pretty scathing review. About a week afterwards I received a public message from management -- you can read it right now -- which honestly read as authentic: they were concerned, they wanted to fix the problem, they appreciated the feedback. A few months go by, we return. Better experience. Not great, but better. Someone asked if they could help us, imagine that. So we decide to give it another shot, about a week ago. This time we were greeted as soon as we entered by an upbeat, cool personality. She asked what my daughter was looking for, my daughter told her, and she immediately started fishing out great threads that worked. She was engaged in the entire process, she was friendly, she seemed to be enjoying what she was doing... awesome. Thus, with this update my one star review is off the board, it doesn't impact the business, and more importantly, they got a customer back. My experience was poor and I would never recommend. From now on I'll just donate the clothes to the city of Abq. At least I know they are going to a good cause. When you sell your old clothes here you get a couple bucks and once you leave they flip your old stuff for close to original cost. Poor business model for the customer and actually pretty sketchy. read more

Bad customer service, no greeting when walking in. Felt uncomfortable with workers being upset. Seemed like they hate there job.

I was looking to get rid of my designer jeans(True Religion, Rock Revival) for my son & I, had the pleasure of speaking with "Midi" who was very helpful with all my questions. I was pleasantly happy with the customer service I was receiving (via phone) as I had read all the previous reviews and was a little scared that I might get a mean person to talk with, but not at all. She explained how the selling process worked and to definitely bring them in and all the staff would be knowledgeable to help. I brought them in the next day an upon entry of store I was greeted by "Romi" I told her I had previously spoken to "Midi" and was bringing in my gently used designer jeans, she took my information and said someone would be with me shortly, there is definitely a lot of people bringing in there used clothes in trash bags (not something I think shows you really took care of your designer duds) that might also affect how they may offer what they want to pay never the less, I waited patiently to be assisted. The store is color coordinated which is really cool,(previously mentioned in a review) as I am always looking for specific colors and there is nothing like looking through tons of clothes everywhere on the racks, so a Big Thank YOU for that!! They definitely carry a nice selection of used designer clothes for the young & hip :) I do believe they are priced accordingly for designer items typically you will pay $150-250 for jeans and they are selling them for $75 or less which is a steal, especially if they are in good condition, I think being that this is NM some people assume they should be garage sale prices and are very unfamiliar with designer pricing and want it for free! I suggest if you are looking for realllllllllly inexpensive pricing try Good Will as you can sometimes get steals on designer items that were dropped off :) I was called over by Stephanie who than started to go over my jeans brought in, she mentioned all my jeans were in excellent condition (but of course they were I paid $200+$ ~~I always take care of my Super Star clothing......teeeee.....heeee :) I was given a fair amount considering trendy clothing changes yearly and if you like trendy designer clothes you must understand it is very expensive way to dress if you want to be "Fabulous" I will gladly return as the staff was friendly, knowledgeable & helpful with all! read more

Young employees are rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I am on the heavier side but was shopping for my boys. I was told they don't have very many "XL" sizes. Rude. V v I wish they had more young men's stuff. Some of their prices are more then the sale prices at the Hollister store. The cashiers fought over who would "have to" ring me up. Their conversation of prior nights personal events seemed more important than me...the customer! I wish they accepted more Nike, and sports teams gear also. Overall my experience was poor. I struggled between a 2 star and 3 star, I am looking at all my visits collectively and settled on a 3 star. But truly am thinking a 2 star is more appropriate recently.) I have been shopping here for a number of years and tend to find at least two or more things with each visit. Prices are always good. But customer service is always lacking. The store set up and merchandise and prices and cleanliness are all 5 star, but not so for customer service. To be honest I never really noticed how bad the customer service was until the westside location opened. I have received amazing customer service all three times at the westside location, and get ignored at the east side. Until I went in to the westside I thought is was customary to have to search for an associate and beg to be let in the dressing rooms. Get the customer service in order and you will have a fantastic store, until then you will loose customers. As a shopper if you are OK with self service and not help even when standing at the front to pay, you will love it here. If not, try the westside location or a different store altogether. read more

I would give 2.5 stars if it were possible. I went to Plato's Closet following the semi-annual closet purge, and I'll admit I was initially going to just take everything to Goodwill. However, I like money, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Armed with two shopping bags full of clothes, I went in. The store was packed, and I realized that I'd made the mistake of coming in during the tax-free weekend. The girl at the counter (long dark hair, glasses) was incredibly sweet and explained the process of selling to me, and made it a point to tell me any damaged or stained clothing would not be accepted. Being forewarned of a 45 minute wait, I began to wander the store. While I can appreciate the substantial about of merchandise, I felt somewhat claustrophobic. The aisles were way too close together, and it was difficult to navigate around people in the store. I found a few items I liked and jumped in the queue for the dressing room. I have to give major props to the girl working the dressing rooms; she did a great job and was quite patient. I did manage to spend at least 20 minutes waiting in line. The rooms have a six item limit, but that seems to be code for "bring 48 items and spend more than an hour in a dressing room." It was really busy, so I know how rough it can be, but there were several people employing this method. When I finally got into a room, I found that two of my five items had either damaged zippers or tears in the fabric, and one had stains all over the bodice. I didn't end up buying anything. Ultimately, Plato purchased six of my items for $11 and change. I was told that many of my items were too dressy, and some were too worn; the constant jostling of other customers and the state of the clothes I tried on almost made me say something rude, but I didn't. I took the money and ran. Not sure if I'll come back. read more

I had a great experience with Plato's. Very professional, friendly and fast when buying. I dealt with multiple employees and every one of them was pleasant and helpful. I had a completely horrible experience with Buffalo Exchange the other day and it makes my experience here that much better! Definetely will come here again as a seller. As a buyer, I really like the selection of jeans and shorts at this location. Definitely priced where you can easily put a couple of very cute outfits together and save those $$ read more

This location does not have as much selection as others I have been to, but still worth stopping in when I am in the area or looking for something specific. I have not attempted to sell anything here so I cannot speak to the selling process but I have purchased a few items- clothing and jewelry. The staff has been friendly each time I've been in. I went into the San Mateo store today. I had what would be considered new or like new clothing to sell. I dropped it off and came back later to see what they had chosen. Now I had well over 25 items and they chose 2 of those items which isn't an issue, if it wasn't to the standards I understands. However, when I asked the girl at the counter about it she was extremely blunt and rude to me. I did state that I was surprised about what they chose giving my reason "I thought I had better stuff", to which she responded "evidently not". Like I said I'm not upset they only took two items but the tone and rudeness she spoke to me with guaranteed that I will never come back to sell or shop. P.S. Management should really look at customer service because there seems to be a trend in these reviews. read more

Plato's Closet - Albuquerque, NM I will be posting this same review for both locations in the Albuquerque area, because I had a terrible experience at BOTH locations yesterday, and I will never go into this dishonest store ever again. This place is a complete scam, and it should rank lower than selling on Craigslist. It's bad to say I'd rather deal with complete strangers, sketchy ones at that, ONLINE than dealing with a business that should have some sort of ethical standards. Just to note, the review is not so much based on the prices paid - I get it- Plato's Closet needs to make money to keep the store running, so I realize I'm only going to get a small percentage of what they plan to sell an item for, but the sketchy practices they use are horrible. Anyway... Fast forward to yesterday. I went in with my best friend as we both are trying to move a lot of old clothes. We brought in a bag or two each, not a ton of items, but a handful. Mostly shoes. Again, same thing, didn't expect much for them because I understand they need to *make* money on what they resell. What I did not expect: the half ass lying, and dishonest behavior from employees. The first trip was into the Cutler store. They went through everything fast. I was surprised by some items they didn't want that were new, but I mean they would have given me like a $1 for a NWT item so I guess that's okay. I think it's pretty shitty, pardon the language, to put my crap back in bags on top of what the store wants to buy from you, and then they half ass hold up the barrel and breeze over what they want to buy. Not only that, because they hold up the bin behind the counter, you can't see what the hell they are buying from you, and it's not like you have time to rifle back through your own stuff to see what is no longer there. They throw out an arbitrary price, and try to get you to move on from it as fast as possible. My offer seemed fine, a few jeans and a few pairs of heels (ONE NEW IN BOX) for like $30. It was a loss to me, and it was stuff that I would have made close to the same amount (sadly) on eBay, so fine. What was EXTREMELY awful and I feel unethical is what they did to my friend. She brought in several shoes in boxes, they took the shoes out of boxes, gave her back the boxes, and they just said they were going to keep a couple pairs of shoes. Since they kept my shoes in the box that they bought, she assumed she was getting a few pairs back, and since we were almost being rushed out of line, she didn't stop to check. Why would you give the boxes back? You gave her $20 for 5 pairs of shoes, and she wouldn't have agreed to it on some if she had known how many you were going to buy. She was confused by it, and the employee barely even offered to show her what they were buying. She didn't even show the bin, she just handed back my friend's items and said we would be buying "the shoes" and here is the price. We didn't realize until we got to the next location how much they took from her without really letting her know. Perhaps we should have been more vigilant and made the employee show us, but I thought we could have some faith in a business not to F**k us over. Guess not. When we got to the next store, we almost didn't even want to try. The last store had left such a bad impression in our mouths, but we had the car loaded up and this was our mission today. We decided to trust them again, SHAME ON US, but again I thought maybe it was just cause the other store was a busy and was an isolated incident. NOPE. We brought in the last few things we had, they went through them, and then came time to pay us. This time they did me dirty, and did my friend slightly better. They told me they were going to buy a dress and a pair of heels for $9. What they did not tell me is they also kept 2 pairs of Jessica Simpson sunglasses. They showed me the bin, but they literally HID THE SUNGLASSES under the dress. I didn't notice my sunglasses were gone from the bags I gave them until today and I am horribly pissed off. I would not have agreed to sell those glasses, shoes, and dress for so little. I would have taken the glasses back. I made about $40 between the three stores we went to yesterday. Buffalo Exchange was the third. They sat there and go through your stuff while you watch them do it, and they tell you what they are going to buy, what they are going to sell it for, and what they can offer you and why. That's a much better experience. I only got $4 for an item at BE, but the whole experience was worlds better. Plato's closet, you are a horrible, unethical, dishonest company and I will never give you a dime. Again, not about the prices, but just your practices on letting customers know what you are buying is at best, some sort of legal theft. Shame on you. Shame on me for going into 2 stores yesterday. We won't ever ever ever EVER go back. I would rather give my items away to donation than have them stolen from my by a company. read more

It was my first time at this Plato's closet location and it was awful. I brought in prom dresses to sell that were in great condition and a couple hadn't even been worn before. They were nice dresses that weren't cheap and they didn't take any of them. They handled the dresses like they were a bag of rags and shoved them into their dress bags like they were throwing garbage in the trash and didn't bother trying to return them to me how I presented them. I do not recommend trying to sell clothes here because they won't even look at them, they'll just make you wait half an hour and not even tell you when they're done. All of the employees were very rude and didn't seem like they enjoyed their job at all and made you feel like they were better than you. read more

Staff attitude is horrible. Just because you don't want to be there doesn't mean you can treat people bad. Plus size section is horrible. XL section is horrible. I suggest girls to go else wear. All of the clothes on the racks were heavily used and style was decades old. After your visit to Plato's Closet you will feel like you need to take ten showers. Not only did the clothes smell off there were many stray hairs on them.The workers were rude and purposely made us wait over an hour because of there laziness. Don't expect to sell any clothes here even if they're brand new. They won't even look twice at the bag. Do not expect much from this garage sale! read more

I am still laughing at my experience today at this store. I had a large sack of clothes (free people, anthropologie, gap, saks) that I brought to platos. The teenage girl that went through my stuff was so comical. She called me back over, told me they could not accept any of my clothes because they SMELLED BAD. Then continued to explain to me that if I took them home and washed them and brought them back they might be able to take some of them. I would never bring unwashed clothes into a store to sell, this girl, saying that in front of other customers, was so unprofessional and condescending it was all I could do not to just start laughing. I would not write this review if I was embarrassed or knew my clothes smelled bad, I can assure you that my clothes are well kept and of good odor. Wow- still disgusted with this place. Always go to buffalo exchange- they are professional and nice and their clothes are not cheap. I went to platos as a last result figuring they would definiltey take some nice, upscale clothing. They did not accept anything from anyone the entire time I was in the store. I think that it is laziness on this adolescent filled staff that they just do not want to re stock the racks. You should NEVER embarrass a customer like that in front of other customers. Not at all what I expected based on the radio ads that I have heard for this shop. Went in looking for a cocktail dress. BUST!!The friendly employee behind the counter let me know right away that they wouldn't have any such thing, but encouraged me to look around. I did, and quickly realized that this little resale shop is geared toward a much younger crowd, with lots of used H&M gear and platform heels hanging around. I could live with all of that, and even tolerate the vacuous giggling teenagers holding conversations at the top of their lungs. But the dressing rooms.... No bench or stool to place my clothes/belongings on---WTF?!?! Dropping my clothes, phone, etc. on the floor is just GROSS, and then I'm challenged with not stepping on my stuff as I change. I was told by a friend about this place. So I took the recommendation and checked it out. I walked in and no one greeted me. I was looking for a pair of shoes (nothing specific). They had a decent selection of shoes. I didn't find any shoes I wanted. So I checked the rest of the place out. There were hangers and clothes on the floor. Every time I walked by an associate they didn't speak to me and truly didn't look pleased to be at work. I continued to look but ended up leaving empty handed.
