    my butterwort!
    Allie Y.

don't do what I did....do not come here all dressed up in freaking heels, because you'll be tripping over yourself LOL I came here before a viewing all dressed up....and boy oh boy, I will not be making that mistake again. the parking lot is all gravel & you have to kind of walk down hill to the greenhouse. once you're inside though, it's all gravel and rocks. I was so excited to come here to buy a butterwort for my collection of carnivorous plants. they have a larger selection than most nurseries in the DMV area. I will be returning to purchase additional butterworts for my little terrarium.

So I came here after seeing an instagram post and following their page. It's off the side of the road and seems like it's a persons house. It's after that you'll see the greenhouse. There are 2 parts the huge greenhouse and the cultivation/ propagation station. The propagation station is where the plants have the best prices, although it is expense. The social media did an excellent job in introducing this place and making people want to go.

This is my second visit! The first trip over the summer I purchased a peace lily and a snake plant. They have a variety of plants and different price ranges. From low to high. My tastes in plants are expensive. lol! I also love you can ask any one that works there about any of the plants and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. This trip I got a small Alocasia. They were having the Makers and Plant Market. They had vendors and local makers. I can't wait to come back and get more!!

I went to the epic plant sale they had over the weekend and I was in heaven. This place is absolutely amazing!!!! So many different beautiful plants! I could spend hours here just staring at all the beautiful plants. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The plants were pricy but worth it. They had household plants, outdoor plants, rare plants, flowers, trees, peppers. Something for every green thumb! I can't wait to go back!

This place amazed me!!! I can't wait to go back! Their plants are well take care of, the humid is just right! I bought three plants. Two of which I've been trying to find for a long time in within the right price range!!

Boobie cactus - A cactus with multiple rounded, protruding growths resembling breasts is displayed in a small green pot. The plant is situated among other similar cacti in individual pots, all placed on a black tray. The background shows a greenhouse environment with natural light and blurred greenery. The pot has a label indicating the plant's name as 'Boobie Cactus' and a price of $40.00.

Visited on earth day! I was so impressed with the size of the nursery, amount of plants, and the price of the plants were very reasonable. They had such a great selection and also had so many rare plants as well. Employees were so nice and very informative when I asked them anything. I plan on going back! They have everything you need from soil, pots, various plants, and a cute cat who patrols the plants! Fun bonus is they feature local artists work and sell pots and things that they create!

Multiple potted cacti and succulents are arranged on a shelf in a plant store. The collection includes a round cactus with spines, paddle-shaped cacti with white spines, and other small succulents. The plants are in orange and green pots, with some labels visible. The background features additional plants and foliage, indicating an indoor plant retail environment.

What a hidden neighborhood gem. Literally. I've lived pratically in their backyard for 19 years, and this was my first time there. Lots of healthy plants, fun fluffy chickens and a green house cat.

If you are looking for unicorns and don't mind the price much, here is your place to shop. They have so many beautiful plants that you cannot find just anywhere. This is a must for plant enthusiasts!

Every plant persons dream! Friendly and diverse staff!! Figgy the cat!!! Everything from common plants to rare plants to supplies and handmade pottery. There are amazing market events and they are always supporting the green community and local artists/vendors. Do not think twice about visiting this place whether rain or shine. Totally worth the trip and an unforgettable gem. This is your new favorite place!

This place is actually a hidden gem. It looks like a normal house in the front, because it is. The nursery and greenhouse is actually on the back of the property. You turn onto the driveway of the house and parking is in gravel spaces on the left. Then you walk down the hill, passing the chicken coops on the way to the green house. The greenhouse is massive and I honestly couldn't believe what I was looking at. The variety of house plants, and trees that are in this place is astounding. They even have a rare plant section with plants that are yes, up to $450! Not only do they have a variety of plants but they have a large quantity of each variety. I was really just in shock to see the stock that was present. The prices are a little high, but that's to be expected at a private nursery. They have a lot of mature plants as well, not just smaller plants. They also have a small selection of pots and trellises. These plants are so beautiful and if you want to experience a new nursery, come take a visit! If you're looking for a rare plant, they may have it here! They also have plant classes. I have signed up for two plant classes for July. Super excited about them!

Amazing greenhouse!!! A bit away from the city, but plants alive is worth the trek. Gigantic greenhouse with tons of plants - common and rare, including a great selection of big ones!! Picked up a tineke and Alocasia silver dragon, both which are thriving and have put out new leaves already in a couple weeks. Prices are fair and Jeff/the guys there are awesome.

I just love visiting plants alive!! All of my plants are thriving and they are always helpful when I'm undecided on picking something.

I came here on my birthday with my friend because its only right to buy a plant on earth day! The staff was so kind and the greenhouse is beautiful!!! Dante was very honest that the plants we got were Divas while explaining how to care for them. He even gave us tips on how to build a greenhouse. Debbie was super sweet and she checked on us to make sure we were satisfied with our experience and even took pictures of us with our new plant babies. Jeff was great because he sent me away with a free succulent for my birthday! I told them we would bring our friends back her because the environment was refreshing, staff was super kind, and the location was spacious with many options. Buy your next plant baby from here and check out our TikTok on the experience!

We attempted to remove some ourselves but were quickly overwhelmed by the task. I researched native plant landscapers and came across Swamp Rose Co-op. After reaching out, Jeff, one of the owners, came to do a site visit. He was thorough in his presentation of plans and this February we had them come and do bamboo removal and plant some native trees and shrubs to act as a privacy screen. The Swamp Rose team was amazing! They pulled out over 2 tons of bamboo and roots! They planted native trees and shrubs which are thriving. Our backyard woodland meadow dreams are coming true. We have the team coming back in a few weeks to rip out the standard plants seen in the Silver Spring area (liriope, lilies, weeds) to replace with a native garden and we can't wait. One of my favorite aspects of this company is it is a co-op. The employees can be owners, and those who aren't are still paid a living wage as calculated by the MIT living wage calculator. They do excellent work! It is hard to find a native landscaper but this team is fantastic.

I've been working on a multi-year project to reforest about an acre of my property, replacing all the turf grass with native trees, shrubs, and perennials. I have purchased about 40 trees from Gil and BRT over the last few years - Maples, Oaks, White Spruce, Hawthornes, Dogwoods, Redbuds, Silverbells, Birch, Serviceberries, and Sweetgums. These trees are larger than anything you can get at most nurseries and only a fraction of the cost. His awesome crew will come deliver and install these giant trees with machines (if the site is accessible) or manually if needed (his crew lugged a few trees through a deep wooded area to access a planting site). Gil has also been a tremendous resource for any concerns I've had about the trees. He is a trained arborist and has a wealth of knowledge. He gets back to me very quickly anytime I have a question about any of my trees or when I'm looking for tips on how to address any of a variety of issues. He even stops by from time to time to see how everything is doing. One new tree was uprooted by a heavy wind storm and he was there to fix it that week! Only one dogwood didn't survive the transplant the first year and he replaced it the next year for no cost. Now, two years into starting my project, my forest is really coming to fruition - I never would've been able to do this without Gil and Brooke Run Trees!
