We decided on date night to create Terrariums! We were immediately greeted and given our Terrarium pots. We could choose from 4 different type of "aire" plants to include in our pots. We were then shown our work area, which included colored sand, rocks, shells, plastic flowers, etc. all things to to create our Terrarium We got a quick 2 min overview of what to do and how to take care of the plants (which only require a spray of water, daily. they don't need soil). Then we were left to do our own thing Maybe I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I thought it would be more hands on, or class like in a sense. I was done in about 15 mins lol. You're left to your own, of course, to create You could easily go to an arts and crafts store, get all of the items, and do this at home You can also purchase mimosas and wine for the event. Mimosa was good. Our appointment time was 630p, by 715p we were walking to the car Street parking, can be hard to find so give yourself some time Cute little plant store tho - seems to have all of your pottery and plants in a stylish place!
I've been wanting to visit Plant House in Old Town for a while. I finally made my way on a Tuesday afternoon for a walk in DIY Terrarium Workshop. All the supplies are provided for you. Prices range from $33-$85. They have a wide range of selections of succulents and plants. Each of the containers lets you know how many of either one you can place in the jar. It was a fun activity. I'll do it again!
Super cute and trendy place! Get ready to let your creativity flow. When you walk in, you will greeted by an entire room full of gorgeous plants and pots available for purchase. In the back is where the fun happens! You will see big standing tables serving as your work area. I came here to celebrate my friends birthday and we all made terrarium's. All the staff is super friendly and very helpful with providing directions on how to build your terrarium. If you are clueless, do not fret! The staff is so helpful. The space is a bit tight if you are walking around trying to pick a glass or plants, especially if the class is packed, but it didn't take away from the experience because most of the time you will be at your table having fun building your creation anyway! There are plenty of rocks, sand, moss, decorative pieces, and tools to use at your leisure. I tend to be a perfectionist and found myself wanting to start over, i asked the staff what i should do and she said "dump it!" - the table is essentially your workspace ready to take on your mess! I appreciated how encouraging they are about really letting you do you. I would say this place is perfect for a group outing or date idea. If this isn't your kind of thing and you are dragged here by your SO, i would guarantee that by the time you are getting your hands dirty, you will start to realize you're laughing, having a blast, and glad you showed up! I saw they do candle making events too and i would highly recommend this place and would be willing to go back!
I came here with a friend for the bottle terrarium event. For $35 we got this bottle with 3 plants and then we added additional stuff on top of the dirt. I've done a bunch of paint and sips and wanted to try something like this. To begin we picked out three succulents. The explanation by the leader took about 10 minutes and then you're set off on your own. The staff are there to help if you have questions. I think it was fun, not sure it was $35 worth but once and awhile it would be fine. They also have a nice plant shop in the front which I would definitely come back and check out.
This spot is honestly such a super dope date idea for a significant other, friends, family, whatever! Especially for people that love plants. The ambiance and vibes were everything!!! It was fun and spunky looking, the music was fire, and everyone was nice!! Nice to Know before going: You have to make a reservation You pay based on your plant container you select Price ranges from $25 up There's tons of items to help you decorate You can't mix air plants with succulents/cactuses The staff are there to answer your question You can purchase drinks/alcoholic beverages
This was such a fun date for me and my girlfriend! We were already in Old Town Alexandria and this has been on the list of things we've wanted to do for months now. So we finally decided to a top in because summer is the perfect time to have plants. The whole experience was super fun! We did a walk-in but they recommend that you get a reservation to ensure you can do it. They let you choose your plant's new home (glass bowl of some sort). The bowl includes the number of allowed plants, soil, decorations, etc. Each bowl can allow for a certain number of either air plants or succulents. My girlfriend went for more of a tropical theme and I went for more of a desert theme. Our plants came out so well and they're loving the amount of light they get at home lol. Highly recommend this for dates, family activities, friend gatherings, etc. because there's fun for everyone here. They also have other plants for sale if you want normal sized plants too!
This was my second time visiting plant house. My friend and I did it for a girls day and it was so cute and fun. They do have classes but we did the DIY, so you make a reservation online for $25 but that comes out of the final price. The size we selected was $33 so we paid about $8 on top. The amount of plants you can select varies depending on the size terrarium. As included in my pictures there are a lot of decorations to add including moss, sand mushrooms, rocks and flowers. The staff were really sweet and helpful. The hardest part of this was making sure your plants are rooted in and can stand up but the staff is available to help you if needed. I'll definitely be back and felt like this was worth my money. There is a free parking garage if you go past plant house towards the hotel and make a right it's directly across from the hotel and free.
5/5! Absolutely had a blast here with the DIY plant workshop! First time taking a DIY class like this and we were able to have fun making our own plant box! The Experience: For each of us, I believe it was about $25 per person, which covered the cost of all the materials/plants we used in our box. Booking online was very easy, and they have different workshops to pick from! When you arrive to PlantHouse, you check in with the staff and make your way to a table. Once settled in, you can pick your plants to use and wait for the instructor to start the class! Simple as that, and very fun. They provide a ton of small decorations for your plant, so let your imagination run wild! The Atmosphere: The space was clean, spacious and very nicely decorated! With plants everywhere and such a variety of selections, it was really fun just browsing what they had. Overall, a 5/5! Would highly recommend coming here just to browse their variety of plants or even for a fun date night! I'll be back to do more of their other workshops they offer!
PlantHouse in Alexandria is your one-stop shop for all things plants! Recently, I made two visits here; one for a succulent workshop and another for leisure, in which both were exceptional experiences. The store itself was filled with beautiful plants ranging from large to small as well as common to uncommon. Along with the wide array of houseplants, cute pots and fun, informative books were available all around the refreshing shop -- plenty of precious potential gift ideas. Additionally, the team here was as knowledgeable as they were super! As an aspiring plant mom, I felt very inspired after attending my first workshop. The instructors made following along rather seamless and allowed room for creativity and were readily available to assist anyone. It was a fun, memorable activity to take part in with loved ones. Knowing PlantHouse has got me covered, I look forward to visiting again to help my plants thrive. If you hold any ounce of appreciation for plants, this shop is a must-seed!
I think this plant shop is newer. We stopped in here to see if they had anything different from the plants everyone seems to get at Lowes. Simple answer is that, yes, they do have different plants and the prices are exactly what is expected for someone who researches what the prices should be. So I'm not sure if you'll find a "deal" when you come here but you sure will be delighted to find one of your "wishlist" plants. They also have classes and a space you can reserve if you want to have a plant and party type occasion. One reason I took off a star is that it's super dark in this store. I assume it's to protect the plants from too much sunlight during the day but I had a hard time examining my potential purchases under the dim lighting that imminated from underneath the shelves. Other than this, the store is cute and quaint and it was busy because I think all the pandemic plant moms and dads were out in full force since there is a new plant shop in town with plants that are actually pretty good. I didn't make a purchase because I was looking for alocasias and there wasn't a large selection of these plants. I also noticed they don't have a lot of larger plants like Monsteras or elephant ear taros and etc. no biggie!
The Galentine's Day terrarium Tuesday was so fun! My friend and I put together charming glass bowls with colorful sand, sparkly leaves, adorable mushrooms, and air plants. The instructions for how to assemble the terrariums and how to care for the plants were made clearly and quickly.
Omg! Omg!! Are you a plant person like me? This is the spot for you! My friends told me I should go here to get my plant fix in and it was worth the 50 mins drive from where I live! They have only been open for about 3 weeks and everything is so well put together! The first staff member I ran into Tasha was so welcoming and inviting! She was so knowledgeable about the breeds and methods to keeping plants alive. Katrina at the front was my girl! She showed me all her favorite plants and told me about all the services they provide and workshops coming up in the future. She was a pleasure! They have pots, home decor, candles, fans terrariums you can customize. Their plant prices range from like $5-$180/plant so choose wisely. They also have books you can buy too! I loved the experience and I'm definitely coming back to see my new friends that work there! They mentioned they maybe servicing alcoholic beverages in the future! That's exciting it they do! Wine night at Plant House! Yay! Parking in the garage was the best method for me. The poles were up so I didn't have to pay for parking but there is street parking but it was hard for me to find a spot.
This place is so underrated! I call this my Sunday happy place. I've been here three times, all on a Sunday, and have made new friends from the different activities I've done. I've made two terrariums and one wreath on separate occasions. The vibes here are so welcoming and the staff is so patient. They really help you make beautiful things. There's plenty of material you can go around so you never run out of selections. The prices of the classes are super affordable too! The store is absolutely stunning and have bought a few plants there's at reasonable prices.
I loved it here! A friend and I visited for the terrarium class and it was a lot of fun. The creative outlet is really yours to run with. At the beginning of the class, a staff member walks you through the process, how to pick you items, and how to fill the vessels. I really liked how you could take your time figuring out what you want to create. Since it was not as busy at the time of our reservation, we had plenty of time to explore and mix and match succulents and air plant. It's great for groups, dates, one on one time with friends and family, etc. If you enjoy plants and/or want to learn more about them, their shop has plenty of variety to choose from. read more

I have always loved planthouse. I've visited at least three times before it became more popular so there are a few differences that I can notice but first to start on a good note its always a super fun, friendly and welcoming space. The staff are always helpful and knowledgeable but my last visit I left a little unhappy. Before plant house offered other things like candle making add a bunch of other DIY workshops it only offered terrariums which was great! But I've noticed price changes that to me personally doesn't equate to the experience. I recently visited for a candle, making workshop booking online in advance and having to pay a deposit didn't make complete sense to me when the class was just my friend and I, secondly, the DIY candlemaking felt completely rushed. It literally took 12 minutes to pay $50 online for a 12 minute session. This doesn't seem fun or equal to me on top of the addition pricing of the jars for the candles. Overall, I was unhappy with the limited amount of scents to choose from, the pricing of it all should be significantly lower, the instructor was rushing us and forgot to call for our candle pick up. Once burning the candle it's a completely uneven burn and the scents are barely noticeable. I don't plan on revisiting. Cool for a first time thing but don't expect much read more

After seeing the PLANTHOUSE on my TikTok feed I took my chances took a trip to the Alexander Virginia to the plant house. And this trip did not disappoint at all from the time I walked in I was greeted with a warm welcome. I was literally surrounded in a forest of beautiful plants. The plant house has many different plants so it's something for everyone from plants, books, candles & planter pots everything you need is in this one store. If your a beginner or your have many years of knowledge about plants. You will enjoy this experience you can even schedule a workshop to d.y.i a terrarium. I highly recommend PLANTHOUSE. read more
Really nice place for a non traditional date. We came two weekends in a row and tried out two different workshops. The first one was a bottle terrarium and the second was a kokedama. The workshop isn't necessarily a workshop but more of a really quick tutorial then freedom to recreate what they explained in 5 minutes. We didn't mind but definitely thought it would be more of a learning experience. Besides that the shop has a really cool vibe and the employees are equally as cool. Recommend if you are looking for original pots, plants and plant merch. The workshop is a coin flip in my opinion. read more

Absolutely adore this place! It's every plant mami, papi or person's dream. They have a wide variety of plants, pots, books and more. I visited to get 6 of my indoor plants repotted and the process was seamless. I brought my own pots and Noah helped give them all a new life. He was also super helpful by helping me bring them all outside to load into my car. It's $5 for pots under 12 in. and $10 for pots larger than that and includes the soil. Repotting is free if you purchase a pot from them. While they were being repotted, I explored the shop and loved the cute finds. I also saw a number of people DIYing terrariums which looked like a lot of fun! They even have a selection of snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages you can enjoy. They offer a variety of workshops and you can also pop in or reserve a session! I will certainly be back again soon. This place is guaranteed good vibes. read more
Love it here and the DIY Terrarium experience! They have tons of plant options for purchase and they take care of them! The shop keepers are very friendly, informative and make good recommendations for care. We did the DIY Terrarium experience which started as $25 pp online reservations. The money is put toward your purchase of the overall material. So you get to choose which vase or bowl you would like depending on your price range, we saw $30 - $100 options. Depending on your vase choice is how many plants come included with it, from air plant or succulents. We chose succulents, which turned out super cute and they have a wide selection. You can add additional plants for additional cost per plant ranging from $4-$10. The vase cost also includes all the interior decorations like rocks, soil, sand, moss, accents, etc.. for 2 ppl we ended up spending an additional $50 on top of the reservation cost. So it wasn't bad considering the size and experience! read more
I've been meaning to do this for a long time and I'm so happy I got to try activity! I love doing classes where you get to make things so when a couple suggested doing this as a double date we were definitely on board. If you love plants, this is definitely the shop / activity for you. I believe they sell plants in the front but they're popular for their terrarium making classes. I made a jellyfish terrarium using air plants. It was really cool! Definitely recommend! read more

What a cool spot for plant shopping and DIY workshops. I've been on an interesting plant journey, where I've learned how to not kill everything I buy lol. I really love plants though, so was excited to see this spot open in the DMV. Since I have three plants at home that are all surviving right now, I decided to visit the shop. Luckily, I also learned that they do DIY workshops and drop-in events. I was really interested in trying to make a DIY terrarium, so I took my husband for a date night. When we arrived, I was super impressed with how large the space is and so many plants! We quickly browsed the front of the store, admiring all the different types they offer. They also have some really beautiful planters that I need to shop next time. The friendly staff greeted us and asked if we needed help. We let them know we wanted to make terrariums and they led us to the back where they have several workshop tables. The other really cool thing is that they have wine and snacks you can purchase to really make it a fun date. Anyway, we browsed the different terrarium pots, and decided on small and medium sized bubble pots. You then choose the succulents or air plants you want to add, and get started! The woman helping us walked us through each step, but mostly let us do our own thing. It was really fun to be creative and decorate after getting the rocks, soil and plants placed - they had a nice selection of decor. Even better, they had a really good playlist going, so we loved the whole experience. I would definitely recommend going for a date night or with the girls to try one of their workshops or DIY offerings. We loved it! read more

A fun activity for date night or a night out with friends! Would definitely recommend. A reservation is needed. When you arrive head towards the back of the store to check in with a staff member who will guide you in selecting your supplies. Seats are not assigned so you'll want to call dibs quickly for your group to be able to stay together. Staff were super helpful and nice and made the overall experience fun! My group had a blast creating our little cactus & succulent terrarium. The store itself is adorable and made me question if I wanted to become a plant mom despite the fact I cannot keep plants alive. They had everything from books & puzzles to plants & the cutest pots/vases. read more

This is a super cute place to buy plants and planters! Located in/near Old Town, I was expecting the prices to be more expensive than it was. They have similar trendy planters in many different colors and sizes. Some of the plants were looking sad, but I think that's because they're indoors. If you purchase a planter and a plant, they'll pot it for you so take advantage and just give it some TLC! You'll save yourself the hassle of purchasing soil if you don't already have some. They offer workshops so you can build your own succulent terrariums. Everyone here is so nice and helpful. Ask about signing up for email subscriptions to get 10% off your purchase and sign up for their rewards system. read more

Walked in and my jaw dropped! This place was so visually pleasing and the staff was super friendly and helpful as well! Came here with my boyfriend to check out this new plant shop in the area and I think I found my new favorite place to buy pots. I'm very picky when it comes to pots and they had so many choice I swear I was in there for so long deciding Not only did they have a wide variety of pots, they also had candles and home goods, which you can't beat My boyfriend and I love to check out new plant shops to see what rare finds we can get Planthouse had a couple of pink princesses for sale but that was about all for the rare finds. read more

So disappointed in my first time here. I was so excited when I found this place and was interested in attending the wreaths workshop for my boyfriends birthday but we don't need two wreaths in our tiny apartment. So before buying my tickets I emailed and asked if we wanted to just build one if we would need two tickets or not. You can see the response on 9/10 at 6:07pm they said I'd have to buy two tickets but "the extra money spent can be used on anything else in the store". So at 8:08pm I bought my tickets because I thought it would be worth it if we got a wreath and some other goodies. Today I go to the workshop and the workers refused to honor the email, and were quite rude about it, not even apologizing that someone from their business gave us false information. I wouldn't have even bought two tickets if I knew this info so it felt like they trapped me with a lie. Also for the wreath workshop- they give everyone the same exact premade pack of flowers so theres not much uniqueness to it. Would be better if they let everyone pick out their own decor in my opinion. read more

Such a vibe! I have no green thumb and still had a ball. My one qualm, if you will, is that the staff wasn't really that helpful. We paid for a private session at that and still, no real help. They were extremely busy, and I'm sure that's why. My sister was more help than anything lol. My terrarium looked kind of garbage, but hers was beautiful. I would recommend going on a day when they aren't packed if you can. read more
