I have always loved planthouse. I've visited at least three times before it became more popular so there are a few differences that I can notice but first to start on a good note its always a super fun, friendly and welcoming space. The staff are always helpful and knowledgeable but my last visit I left a little unhappy. Before plant house offered other things like candle making add a bunch of other DIY workshops it only offered terrariums which was great! But I've noticed price changes that to me personally doesn't equate to the experience. I recently visited for a candle, making workshop booking online in advance and having to pay a deposit didn't make complete sense to me when the class was just my friend and I, secondly, the DIY candlemaking felt completely rushed. It literally took 12 minutes to pay $50 online for a 12 minute session. This doesn't seem fun or equal to me on top of the addition pricing of the jars for the candles. Overall, I was unhappy with the limited amount of scents to choose from, the pricing of it all should be significantly lower, the instructor was rushing us and forgot to call for our candle pick up. Once burning the candle it's a completely uneven burn and the scents are barely noticeable. I don't plan on revisiting. Cool for a first time thing but don't expect much read more

We decided on date night to create Terrariums! We were immediately greeted and given our Terrarium pots. We could choose from 4 different type of "aire" plants to include in our pots. We were then shown our work area, which included colored sand, rocks, shells, plastic flowers, etc. all things to to create our Terrarium We got a quick 2 min overview of what to do and how to take care of the plants (which only require a spray of water, daily. they don't need soil). Then we were left to do our own thing Maybe I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I thought it would be more hands on, or class like in a sense. I was done in about 15 mins lol. Celebrated Galantines with a group of 5 for a terrarium workshop which included a few snack and drink options for purchase. It was a full house and the instructor was very attentive. She visited each group to ensure no one had any questions. Although I love plants, i don't consider myself to be a plant person. But I enjoyed trying something new. The shop has lots of plant accessories available for purchase. After the workshop, we walked to one of the local restaurants (quite a few options available within walking distance) for food. All the staff is super friendly and very helpful with providing directions on how to build your terrarium. If you are clueless, do not fret! The staff is so helpful. The space is a bit tight if you are walking around trying to pick a glass or plants, especially if the class is packed, but it didn't take away from the experience because most of the time you will be at your table having fun building your creation anyway! There are plenty of rocks, sand, moss, decorative pieces, and tools to use at your leisure. I tend to be a perfectionist and found myself wanting to start over, i asked the staff what i should do and she said "dump it!" - the table is essentially your workspace ready to take on your mess! I came here with a friend for the bottle terrarium event. For $35 we got this bottle with 3 plants and then we added additional stuff on top of the dirt. I've done a bunch of paint and sips and wanted to try something like this. To begin we picked out three succulents. The explanation by the leader took about 10 minutes and then you're set off on your own. The staff are there to help if you have questions. This was such a fun date for me and my girlfriend! We were already in Old Town Alexandria and this has been on the list of things we've wanted to do for months now. So we finally decided to a top in because summer is the perfect time to have plants. The whole experience was super fun! We did a walk-in but they recommend that you get a reservation to ensure you can do it. They let you choose your plant's new home (glass bowl of some sort). The bowl includes the number of allowed plants, soil, decorations, etc. Each bowl can allow for a certain number of either air plants or succulents. My girlfriend went for more of a tropical theme and I went for more of a desert theme. Our plants came out so well and they're loving the amount of light they get at home lol. This was my second time visiting plant house. My friend and I did it for a girls day and it was so cute and fun. They do have classes but we did the DIY, so you make a reservation online for $25 but that comes out of the final price. The size we selected was $33 so we paid about $8 on top. The amount of plants you can select varies depending on the size terrarium. As included in my pictures there are a lot of decorations to add including moss, sand mushrooms, rocks and flowers. The staff were really sweet and helpful. The hardest part of this was making sure your plants are rooted in and can stand up but the staff is available to help you if needed. I'll definitely be back and felt like this was worth my money. There is a free parking garage if you go past plant house towards the hotel and make a right it's directly across from the hotel and free. read more

5/5! Absolutely had a blast here with the DIY plant workshop! First time taking a DIY class like this and we were able to have fun making our own plant box! The Experience: For each of us, I believe it was about $25 per person, which covered the cost of all the materials/plants we used in our box. Booking online was very easy, and they have different workshops to pick from! When you arrive to PlantHouse, you check in with the staff and make your way to a table. Once settled in, you can pick your plants to use and wait for the instructor to start the class! Simple as that, and very fun. They provide a ton of small decorations for your plant, so let your imagination run wild! The Atmosphere: The space was clean, spacious and very nicely decorated! With plants everywhere and such a variety of selections, it was really fun just browsing what they had. Overall, a 5/5! I think this plant shop is newer. We stopped in here to see if they had anything different from the plants everyone seems to get at Lowes. Simple answer is that, yes, they do have different plants and the prices are exactly what is expected for someone who researches what the prices should be. So I'm not sure if you'll find a "deal" when you come here but you sure will be delighted to find one of your "wishlist" plants. They also have classes and a space you can reserve if you want to have a plant and party type occasion. One reason I took off a star is that it's super dark in this store. I assume it's to protect the plants from too much sunlight during the day but I had a hard time examining my potential purchases under the dim lighting that imminated from underneath the shelves. Other than this, the store is cute and quaint and it was busy because I think all the pandemic plant moms and dads were out in full force since there is a new plant shop in town with plants that are actually pretty good. I didn't make a purchase because I was looking for alocasias and there wasn't a large selection of these plants. They have only been open for about 3 weeks and everything is so well put together! The first staff member I ran into Tasha was so welcoming and inviting! She was so knowledgeable about the breeds and methods to keeping plants alive. Katrina at the front was my girl! She showed me all her favorite plants and told me about all the services they provide and workshops coming up in the future. She was a pleasure! Really nice place for a non traditional date. We came two weekends in a row and tried out two different workshops. The first one was a bottle terrarium and the second was a kokedama. The workshop isn't necessarily a workshop but more of a really quick tutorial then freedom to recreate what they explained in 5 minutes. We didn't mind but definitely thought it would be more of a learning experience. Besides that the shop has a really cool vibe and the employees are equally as cool. Absolutely adore this place! It's every plant mami, papi or person's dream. They have a wide variety of plants, pots, books and more. I visited to get 6 of my indoor plants repotted and the process was seamless. I brought my own pots and Noah helped give them all a new life. He was also super helpful by helping me bring them all outside to load into my car. It's $5 for pots under 12 in. and $10 for pots larger than that and includes the soil. Repotting is free if you purchase a pot from them. While they were being repotted, I explored the shop and loved the cute finds. I also saw a number of people DIYing terrariums which looked like a lot of fun! They even have a selection of snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages you can enjoy. The shop keepers are very friendly, informative and make good recommendations for care. We did the DIY Terrarium experience which started as $25 pp online reservations. The money is put toward your purchase of the overall material. So you get to choose which vase or bowl you would like depending on your price range, we saw $30 - $100 options. Depending on your vase choice is how many plants come included with it, from air plant or succulents. We chose succulents, which turned out super cute and they have a wide selection. You can add additional plants for additional cost per plant ranging from $4-$10. The vase cost also includes all the interior decorations like rocks, soil, sand, moss, accents, etc.. for 2 ppl we ended up spending an additional $50 on top of the reservation cost. When you walk in, it's so light and airy and just a beautiful relaxing space. The staff was very welcoming and amazing as they help me determine what plant was best for me, my lifestyle, and my experience level. What a cool spot for plant shopping and DIY workshops. I've been on an interesting plant journey, where I've learned how to not kill everything I buy lol. I really love plants though, so was excited to see this spot open in the DMV. Since I have three plants at home that are all surviving right now, I decided to visit the shop. Luckily, I also learned that they do DIY workshops and drop-in events. I was really interested in trying to make a DIY terrarium, so I took my husband for a date night. When we arrived, I was super impressed with how large the space is and so many plants! We quickly browsed the front of the store, admiring all the different types they offer. They also have some really beautiful planters that I need to shop next time. The friendly staff greeted us and asked if we needed help. We let them know we wanted to make terrariums and they led us to the back where they have several workshop tables. The other really cool thing is that they have wine and snacks you can purchase to really make it a fun date. Anyway, we browsed the different terrarium pots, and decided on small and medium sized bubble pots. You then choose the succulents or air plants you want to add, and get started! The woman helping us walked us through each step, but mostly let us do our own thing. It was really fun to be creative and decorate after getting the rocks, soil and plants placed - they had a nice selection of decor. Even better, they had a really good playlist going, so we loved the whole experience. They have similar trendy planters in many different colors and sizes. Some of the plants were looking sad, but I think that's because they're indoors. I visited my first PlantHouse at the Richmond location and fell in love! When I realized they just opened a location in Alexandria, I came right over. This place is soo cute and honestly, very big. Right when you walk in they have all of the plants and pots. I liked that the terrarium stuff was in a separate section in the back, so if classes are going on you're not shopping in the middle of a class. The staff was very nice and super helpful. All of them were so knowledgeable. I'm definitely going to come back and buy some plants and more pots! If you have your own pot and buy a plant, they'll pot it for you for free. I was asking about low light and low maintenance plants and they didn't have a huge selection of low lights, but I was told they're looking into getting a wider range, so I hope that's true! I've only ever been to two plant shops in my life, both of which were PlantHouses, so I can't say if the price is high or not. The 4" snake plant I was looking at was $12 and the 4" ZZ plant was $18 for reference if that means anything to plant people. Anyway, I'm definitely coming back and recommend this place! read more

The flower pressing class here is a scam. All you do is literally press the flowers. They don't frame it. No resin. Just pick your flowers, they hand you some wood and screw it down to press the flowers and you're done. Save yourself some money and buy some flowers at Trader Joe's and press it at home with a heavy object. Please do not waste your money on the scam pressing class here. Also the instructor for this "class" did not stay with the class for the entire session. She left to talk to her friends at the register in the front of the store. We had questions for her and so did other attendees and we could not find her. Overall.... Very ghetto experience. Just a money grab if you ask me. read more
