Vegan relatives came to town and we hosted a family lunch for them. Needed birthday dessert, so I couldn't have been happier to find this all-vegan bakery in Wake Forest. I decided to go with a cupcake variety. You don't get to pick what kinds you want. It's whatever they are baking that week, which worked fine. Half a dozen cupcakes are around $20, so I got four of them for $80, which was the right amount for 18 people, with leftovers. Do note that the website calls them "party size". I didn't know what that meant, so I called. It means regular size, which was a good thing at that price LOL. I was glad party size wasn't mini ones. Loved that I was able to order them via their website in advance. They were nicely boxed and ready for me when I arrived Saturday morning to pick them up. Easy breezy. And they were a hit unlike previous vegan cakes I've bought in the past from other places. A family owned and ran business on the strip in Wake Forest. Plant Cakes offers several options of sweets and drinks. The sweets consist of vegan and gluten free, cakes, cookies, muffins and their specialty Cinnamon Roll. Additionally, there is ice cream. The drinks include coffees, smoothies and assorted cans and bottles of refrigerated choices. I had a mushroom coffee. It was my first time to try one. To me, the flavor was very similar to cream of mushroom soup with the texture of regular coffee. I liked it and I would recommend it, if you want to try. I also had their signature Cinnamon Roll. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. It is quite large and could easily be shared between 2 people. The service is fast and provided with sincerity and care. The family keeps the place clean and tidy. Plant Cake also offers carryout. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The tables are sturdy and the chairs are as well. If you have food allergies or are needing plant-based foods for health or other reasons, this store is a great option or alternative. As we don't have dietary restrictions, we visited to support a local bakery. The employees were friendly and the service was relatively fast. The atmosphere was welcoming, well-lit and clean. I love the quaint streets at Wake Forest so when I found out there was a vegan bakery I was happy to take my friend and head over there. It wasn't busy and we were waited on promptly. A nice little gem of a bakery in downtown Wake Forest, which is a town that sorely needs more businesses like this. They have been open for about a year or so and their products are top notch. Not only are their baked goods gluten free, they are not overly sweet, which is what I prefer. Anyway, they offer a nice selection of donuts, cupcakes, cookies and cakes (to order). We excitedly realized it was a vegan bakery that also serves gluten-free items. The donuts in the display case first caught my eye, then the unique waffle cone flavors. I decided on a cookies and cream donut with an orange waffle cone filled with dairy-free vanilla ice cream and rainbow sprinkles. The items were delicious! I particularly like the flavorful orange cone paired with vanilla soft serve. I have seen coated waffle cones before, but not flavored ones. The orange was definitely more flavorful than the red velvet. Prices and portions are comparable to similar establishments. This is a small bakery in Wake Forest. They mostly make and sell doughnuts. Some gluten free, some vegan, some regular. They have a few muffins and cookies too, but it's somewhat limited. I have been gluten free for a very long time, and this place is good. I have not tried their doughnuts, but based on the cookies and muffins, the chocolate chip cookies were very good, but the oatmeal raisin (which is usually my favorite) had almost no raisins in it and had a distinct flour aftertaste. The muffins had great flavor (especially the lemon blueberry), but even better with a hot cup of coffee. The brownie, for me, was a bit "cakey", but that might just be personal preference. The people were friendly and they rotate the cake and brownie options, doughnut flavors. It's a good place for someone who needs a hit after starting the gluten free life! I am both gluten and dairy free because of a disorder and it's VERY difficult to find pastries that adhere to that diet, but these were absolutely amazing. I got a strawberry donut, a cookies and crème donut, and a cinnamon roll (not gf) for my husband. My sister and I both had a cinnamon iced latte and they were absolutely delicious - not too sweet, just the right amount of flavor. It was only 15 minutes from where I was staying and definitely had to try it. It did not disappoint! I purchased a dozen cupcakes and had to have a donut- just because I finally could! All their donuts are cake-based and vegan, with rotational flavors, but they also have gluten-free options. These donuts are to die for and frankly are better than the vegan donut shops in the vegan meccas of Portland and Seattle. I don't usually prefer cake donuts but these are so light and moist.
