In short, it is a great neighborhood park in the 75094 zip code area. It was updated and improved in 2010. The park has a brick gazebo pavilion with four 8-foot long picnic tables, a large BBQ grill and electric outlets. Be sure to check out the shaded playground area, sandy volleyball court, drinking water fountain, 31 trees, basketball court and lots of benches scattered around and one picnic table by the volleyball court. For dog walkers like myself, bikers, joggers and fur baby owners there is a 0.2 mile cement trail loop for lots of fun and exercise. Thinking about moving to the Aviary Subdivision in Murphy, Texas? Then be sure to check out your local Aviary Neighborhood Park to seal the deal. What a nice five acre neighborhood park.

This is a really nice facility. I came here for a free Tai Chi class that was offered as part of…read morethe Healthier Texas Challenge. The class was amazing! The instructor was a great communicator and demonstrated the steps in the simplest form making it easy for a beginner like me to follow along. I was actually sore the next day! The facility is quite large and offers a variety of services. We were in a large room with tall floor to ceiling windows that faces the park. It was nice to be able to see outside and enjoy the greenery. However, this also meant that the instructor was backlit. She did not turn on the lights in the room. This was okay for me, but it probably would have been better if she has turned on the lights so that we could see her better. In the hallway, there were a lot of paintings on display and they were actually for sale. They highlighted local artists and several of their works. The paintings were priced around $250. It is very reasonable considering the cost of canvas, paint, frame, and the creativity and labor that goes into the work. The front desk staff were helpful. I stopped by there first, and one woman staff member was kind enough to walk me to the room where my class took place. The gym has several of these large rental room spaces, but it also has a gym with treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and machines The City of Richardson allows access to this facility and Heights located in opposite sides of Hey 75 for an annual fee of $70 to residents, even less if you are a senior. You can also get a membership if you aren't a resident of the city. It costs a few dollars more. It's a great deal since most commercial gyms cost $100 a month compared to the price here for an entire year! The hours change, so it is best to check the web or call the main number. It's usually open until 10pm on weeknights, excluding Fridays, but closes earlier on the weekends.

These blue bags are how the city picks up recycling at our curb once a week. I had such a letter and needed to get some blue bags. They are fairly inexpensive to buy if you don't happen to have a letter. The woman at the counter was so pleasant and cheerful! Richardson is a great city to live in. We are lucky to have such great city services: trash pickup twice per week and recycling pickup once per week. Also a Babic- Brush and Bulky Item Collection can be scheduled for larger bulky trash items (furniture, old appliances, etc) weighing over 50 pounds, brush and tree trimmings, etc. The pickup day is the same as your recycling day. This varies depending on where you live within the city. You can go to the city website www.cor.net for more information or to schedule your bulky pickup. There is also a phone app "My Richardson" where you can also schedule through. So convenient and easy!

Plano has some amazing recreation centers. Even though I don't live in Plano, I make the effort to…read moredrive there once a week now to go swimming. They have several recreation centers with indoor pools. The one at Oak Point is the closest to me, so go here even though my membership is good at all of Plano's recreation centers. The first time I tried this out, I bought a one month pass for $33. That's the cost if you are not a resident of Plano. After enjoying my weekly experience swimming here, I decided to invest in an annual membership. It's over $200 for non-residents, but since my city doesn't have an indoor pool available year round for residents, this is my only option. This is an olympic sized pool, but the lap lanes are lined for the short course of 25 yards instead of the long course of 50 yards. Thank goodness because I'm horribly out of shape. I love that when I come, I can usually split the lane with someone. It's rarely crowded, and plenty of people are lucky enough to get a lane to themselves. There is usually a lane reserved for water walking. Sometimes there are other activities that take place and many of the lanes are closed for reserved groups like swim team or water aerobics classes. This pool also features a deep end with a diving board. On the other side, there is a jungle gym obstacle course pool area. Off to the side is a shallow toddler pool. Outside there are two more pools! One of the outside pools has a shore entrance and periodically a horn sounds to let you know that some wave action is about to start. The two outdoor pools are popular with kids and families. During the summer months, the outdoor pools are open every day. After Labor Day, I think they are only open on the weekends. My membership allows me access to other Plano recreational facilities. Also, there is a gym inside Oak Point with free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment like treadmills. I haven't even been into the gym yet. Not sure I ever will. I'm just so happy to be able to swim year around in the indoor pool.

It's…read morequite large and has a number of amenities like a small pond, winding creek and access to an adventure park on the grounds. There are trails as well as paved paths for walking and jogging enthusiasts. The trails do not have much of an elevation change, but they are immersive enough to where you feel like you are in nature. In the midst of one of the trails, you can see the platforms and zip lines associated with the Go Ape Adventure Park. There is a part of another trail that has a beautiful wooden deck that is very peaceful and is akin to other parks I've experienced in Japan and Hawaii. So, if you like changes of scenery, Oak Point is a great option- it's a chameleon in that way. There are restroom facilities that are well maintained located by the large pond as well as ample parking. As far as variety of landscapes and well maintained grounds, Oak Point is definitely a terrific option for outdoor activities in DFW.

I am an athlete and offer you should not go if you are not physically capable. Injured? Don't go. Also, if you are a group or have children, let others pass you as you will slow them down. Staff are not on the course. Do not expect them to come help you. Be self sufficient. Set reasonable expectations for yourself. And don't worry about what other people think. Hydrate. This is physical exercise. And have fun! This is fun! Be free with yourself and your companions. Laugh! Connect with nature. Enjoy challenging yourself. Try something new. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Staff are inconsistent and so is the upkeep. For example on today's visit one of the ropes was broken but I was allowed to use the obstacle anyway. That seemed very unsafe to me. The locks are malfunctioning etc. But overall we enjoy coming out and will continue to do so.

Here's why: Some maintenance work is needed as reflected in the photographs (especially the 1/2 basketball court) and when comparing it to some other City of Murphy Parks it just didn't seem fair to give it a 5 star rating. Wish I could have given it a 4.7 rating but Yelp doesn't permit fractional rating. This 2002 quaint park is located next to Boggess elementary school which helps contribute to the popularity and usage of the younger Murphy population I am sure. It has two shaded playgrounds (much needed during a Texas Summer), swings, a pavilion with BBQ grill (can reserve through City of Murphy Parks & Recreation @ 972-468-4444), electricity, a half basketball court, drinking fountain, backstop, open fields and a .34 mile cement walking loop trail. It is a well landscaped and maintained park. In short, this awesome resource is a must place to spend some time for the neighborhood, pet fur baby owners and dog walkers/pet sitters like me. Nice place to spend time with your family (2 legged and 4 legged family members). Check it out!
