Made my first appt with Plano Smile Design for a general cleaning. Excellent cleaning. I checked before appointment if they were in my dental plan with Mutual of Omaha and they were. However when I checked out the bill was for $60. at the time of service. Recieved an explanation of Benefits from my insurance company and this office submitted had $506.00 for the cleaning and xrays. I called today and asked what they charge for a cleaning and they said it should be covered with my insurance.(did not mention I had already been there) I then asked why I was charged $60 at the time of service. My insurance company was submitted with a 506.00 bill. They claimed that the floride and cancer screening was an extra charge. Insurance did pay (them) 81.41. also was suggested that I needed an Invisalign for 4,760. Suggestion, get in writing what your visit will cost beforehand and what they will submit to your insurance company. read more

They had the nerve to refuse to do an insurance approved cleaning. I have never been so humiliated in my life. They told me to get out of their office and refused me service. When I requested to fix the issues with the dentures, he started speaking loudly. Dr. Ajala is a very jovial person and a delight to work with. Recently he placed a crown and had to do significant extra work for my mouthguard to continue to fit (over the new crown). He was very patient and kind about the extra time. I really appreciate his professionalism and care. The office staff is always helpful and they have an excellent attitude. read more

I had great service from them for the 9 years I'd been there - until a year ago. I had done all my cleanings and crowns there (8 crowns) and was thoroughly happy when swendenburg retired. Last year they advertised an invisalign open house and were offering $500 off if you signed up that day. I was told insurance was going to pay half of the full amount and I would be responsible for the other and I said I was fine with that and signed their 'contract' that I signed and the office manager signed. This was July of 2019. In August I got a letter in the mail from my insurance saying they were only going to cover 1/3 of what the office said they were going to pay - I had yet to receive my trays at this time. When I went in to get my trays I showed them the letter and someone from the front took a copy and said 'we will have to talk to your insurance about this, otherwise we will have to eat this'. I was fine waiting cause I had paid my amount and was waiting for the next billing cycle from my insurance which came in MAY 2020. I received a call from the office in JULY from someone I had never heard of that said I had an outstanding balance that was past due and they threatened collections. I told them my situation and they said 'yea, they said they weren't going to pay that'. I went to the office for my cleaning and they said they would check again with the insurance and I told them I had a copy of the 'contract' the letter from my insurance and I don't expect to pay anything. They said they'd look into it. In August I got a call saying they were going to take me to collections because of the bill and I again told them about how I was mislead about the amount I would pay and was told you were going to look into it. They said they would call me back. 2 hours later I got a call from the same person who said they can negotiate to paying half of the remaining amount. I was livid. i went into the office to pay the amount and told them that once I made this payment I wasn't going to come back and neither is anyone from my family. If you want to stay with them I would recommend checking with your insurance separately. read more

I had a really bad experience at Plano Smile Design today. I have used them on multiple occasions and haven't been impressed, but never had a bad experience until now. I recently had my Saturday appointment canceled last minute and pushed really far out to today. Today I show up and they tell me that they verified my insurance and it they said I don't have coverage. This is a Saturday so we can't contact anyone. Meanwhile, I have received several text messages and phone calls over the last two weeks to confirm. Could they have brought this up to get the obvious mistake fixed before coming in to the office. I had to get a babysitter and drive all the way to my dentist office where I used to live. The office manager now wants to schedule me an appoint a month later or break it up into 2 separate appointments. I don't have time for that. A real big inconvenience! However, they were nice enough to offer 10% of my $50 co-pay for my time. Thanks, but no thanks! My time is worth more to me! I will be looking into a new dentist office and so should you. There are to many quality businesses out there to deal with one that has such poor customer service. Swedenborg/Peavy you should really train and empower your team to do better. Dr. Peavy, my dentist and Trey, my hygienist, are both absolutely amazing. In all of my years of visiting dental offices for cleanings, this was the first time I did not feel any pain during or after a cleaning. I must say, front office staff made scheduling my appointment a very pleasant experience. Those ladies are very warm and caring. Even when I had to reschedule, they always made me feel as if my dental care was a primary concern to them. Since my visit today at Plano Smile Design, I haven't stopped raving about my wonderful experience. My examination and deep cleaning today was completed in the most professional and caring manner. My teeth are beautiful and that makes me feel great so I can't stop smiling! I've been a patient at Plano Smile Design for several years and when I went in yesterday for a routine yearly check, I was shocked at the $396 price tag! The price for this same check up had slightly more than doubled from the year prior. And the topper was that I was told it is imperative that I have gum planing and Arestin and was handed a $1800 treatment plan to deal with what was described as a "mild gum problem". They're moving into new offices near Coit and Hedgecoxe - maybe the sky high prices are an attempt to pay for the new digs, but I won't be using them anymore. They're just too expensive and unpredictable pricing-wise. I like Dr. Swedenberg, the hygienist is not so great, and the staff seems to change up everytime I go in. read more

DO NOT GO TO PLANO SMILE DESIGN! Last month, I scheduled my routine cleaning with them. As soon as I am in the dentist chair for a good five minutes, the dental hygienist is trying to sell me on Invisalign braces! She spent 45 minutes talking about it, taking X-rays, that she did share that was outside of what was covered for a preventative maintenance cleaning! After that, the Dentist came in and claimed I had nine cavities, which I did not have, because I have been to another dentist. I received one estimate for a deep cleaning and another for Invisalign braces! The out - of -pocket for Invisalign braces was $2800 and my dental treatment plan estimate was over a thousand dollars. I spent two hours at this office and never received my cleaning!! Extremely POOR CUSTOMER SERIVCE and lack of communication. I requested my x-rays the next day. Tierra stated that they would "eat," the cost of my X-rays since they did inform me what they were doing. That was a lie!!!! I received a bill in the mail for the out pocket for what was suppose to me 100% paid by my insurance, however, they did X-rays outside of what was covered by my insurance. On the bill that I received, she is claiming we had phone conversations on certain days which is not true! Make sure you ask Tierra line by line what is on the estimate she is giving you and check with your insurance company to verify if they utilized the correct coding. Plano Smile Design should be paying this bill, not me. My new dentist also stated that I don't need Invisalign braces! They don't care about the patient, they just care about making money and making up stuff that you don't need. BE careful! They will try to overcharge you! read more

I have been going to Plano Smile Design for several years. I have had bad experiences with other dentists in the area - trying to sell you services that you don't need (and that insurance may not cover). However, Dr. Swedenberg and staff always listen when I ask questions and let ME decide when/what treatments that I want to do. As a consumer, you have to know to ask before you agree to have services done. Find out if its really necessary or just recommended. Find out if the insurance pays for it. Plano Smile Design does a great job, and takes good care of me and my family. Their new offices are great too. read more

Dr. Swedenburg and my hygienist, Melody, were very thorough in their examinations and made me feel confident about choosing this office for my dental needs. I have been a loyal client of Dr. Swedenburg's for more than 8 years. In that time I have also had a tremendous amount of work done (17 crowns and Invisilign). And I can simply say Dr. Swedenburg is a wonderful dentist! However, I have decided to move on because I'm fed up with literally years of having to wrestle with their billing department for being charged for things that just don't add up or for getting billing straightened out that I never should have been charged for in the first place only to have them pop up again literally years later! For example, the last 3 times I was in I was charged for a deep cleaning and not a regular cleaning. Time and time again I asked them why they were coding it as a deep cleaning only to always be given a variety of answers. This last time I was actually told that maybe I don't understand the difference between a deep cleaning and a regular cleaning. Excuse me but after 17 crowns and 60 years on this Earth I believe I know the difference!!!! To top it off I keep getting notifications about appointments I never made! Strange. In fact I just got one today for an appointment once again that I never asked for which is what prompted me to write this review. I hate the fact that I have to find a new dentist after having had such a long relationship with Dr. Swedenburg but their billing practices make me uneasy and leave me feeling frustrated and angry. It's just not worth it. I'm a very smart women who's tired of being treated like I'm some dumb blond who can't add 2 and 2 and who just doesn't understand. Wrong. I do understand. Dr. Swedenberg and his staff are crooks!!! Just like the other reviews here, I can say from experience you will be over charged for services. And when you do decide to get work done here you will be told one price before the work and a completely different, higher price after the work. AMAZING!!!! Tawonna took care of me from the get go. She was honest and genuinely cared about my tooth. I came in last minute with a chipped tooth and they got me in immediately and fixed it right there! This is a place where I will come and bring my kiddos. Good small town dentist feel. Dr. Swedenburg was caring, funny and had great "bedside manner". Prices were great as well as Ashley at the front desk. Office was clean and inviting and luxurious. I went to this dentist for many years. This review is two stars instead of one because I think the hygienists/assistants are great -- all very friendly, warm and inviting. Unfortunately, from my experience, this office will push services that you don't need in order to make money off of you. I came in last year for my regular cleaning. When the Dr. Swedenburg asked if I had any concerns, I mentioned that on one of my bottom molars, I have been experiencing some sharp pain right at the point where the tooth meets the gum, as if there was sort of an "exposed" part of the root of the tooth. After looking at it for a moment, the dentist told me that my teeth are moving around -- I had braces from the age of 11-13 and have not worn the retainer since as instructed. However, my teeth have moved very little and overall are still quite straight. He told me that my molars were moving and therefore exposing some of the bottom of the tooth that should be under the gum. The only treatment proposed to me by the dentist was Invisalign. He said I need to get it so that my teeth won't move anymore and cause further issues. I also want to mention that EACH time I have ever been to the office for a cleaning, I was asked if I'm interested in Invisalign for my bottom two front teeth, which are the ones that have (very slightly) shifted since having braces 15 years ago. After declining each time, it would be nice to stop being asked at some point. I believe what they told me at this appointment was just another way for them to try to convince me to do Invisalign, which would have cost me $2,000+. They immediately pressured me at this visit to go ahead and start the process that same day. I explained I'd have to pay installments over time, and they immediately did a credit check and came back to me with a financing deal. $2,000 is a lot of money for me, (and I think for most people), so I wanted time to consider. This was on a Thursday and I was told that if I wanted Invisalign at the cost they offered me, I would need to decide by that Monday. I got a second opinion from the ORTHODONTIST who did my braces as a kid, who told me in fact that the tooth that was causing me pain and all the teeth near it had not moved AT ALL since having braces. She recommended that I use Sensodyne toothpaste and an electric toothbrush. Instead of spending thousands, I spent $50 on what was recommended by my orthodontist and the pain was gone in FIVE DAYS. This experience with Plano Smile Design was so disheartening. I was flat-out lied to so they could try to squeeze $2000 out of me for a service that I absolutely did not need (it would have been cosmetic only, which I had told them so many times I was not interested in). I would recommend you take your business elsewhere unless you want to be left wondering whether you're receiving a true medical opinion or just a lie so that you purchase services you do not need. read more

First time i went they started a root canal, doctor said i would have to go to a specialist to finish. Went to the one they recommended out of my insurance network. They wanted the same amount for them to finish as the doctor at Plano design for the whole procedure. I walked out but not before paying $200 out of pocket. So i went to another endodontist who said she couldnt gurantee it would work and didn't want to charge me.so after all this go back to Plano Smike Design he says he going to fix it but finds other stuff needed fixing. I made it perfectly clear. So you are going to fix the bad tooth correct? We will get you taken care of he said. He gets everything else done then wants to reschedule for the tooth i came in for and wants me to pay $1500. I had already paid off the root canal which never got done from a year prior. So i convinced them to take out of what i already paid. Also before i started the whole procedure i told them i didnt have alot to spend on teeth my family come first,they acted snobby especially the lady from England. Its been 2 years been in there 4 times still have a started root canal. I hear the same thing everytime im in there from other people in other rooms. Are you kidding me i cant afford that. Well this is August 2016 and I've had my share of dentists through the years and Sidney Peavy, DDS and his staff are by far the absolute best! They were friendly, caring, welcoming, well informed and diligent that my son and myself had an awesome first visit experience! The office staff were clear and precise when reporting treatment plan pricing and future plans after consulting with my insurance. This dental office should be a model for all other offices in the area of how to treat patients! We loved them and we will go back! read more

i recently went to this dentist for a cleaning and was very pleased with the service and the staff. They were very friendly and did a great job cleaning my teeth. I did need some work done, which made sense considering my tooth was cracked. In addition I have two random tooth buds and Dr. Swedenborg did not try and sell me on having them pulled. Every other dentist I've been to always wants to pull them out and are quick to give me a price plan to do so. Dr. Swedenborg was straight up in saying that they aren't harming anything and have no root so if I want them out he suggested playing with it until it loosened on their own rather than paying to have them pulled or just keep them. I am very skeptical of dentists and usually never like them, but will say this is the first time I've been and felt like the dentist wasn't trying to up sell me or take advantage of me. I will say, know your dental insurance plan before going into the dentist so that you're not surprised when you see the price. They do quote the services, but that can change if something has changed on your insurance plan or if they find out something is not covered. I didn't have a problem with the pricing, but I knew what my insurance did and did not cover. read more
