Enter Dr. Stambouleigh. From the first consultation through surgery and follow-up, he and his team were calm, professional, and genuinely caring. When I told him I have been contemplating having 5 back teeth implanted for years now and have just been too scared to pull the trigger on it, he explained everything clearly and made me feel completely safe, which is saying a lot for someone who dreads dental chairs. The procedure involved removing the root of the damaged tooth and placing an implant immediately after, removing a back tooth that needed treatment and implant, and placing implants in back spaces where I previously had teeth extracted because the thought of root canals had just terrified me. All in all he fixed 6 teeth that day, and I felt no pain during surgery, have very minor swelling around the implant areas only, and absolutely no bruising whatsoever. I only needed one Motrin and an extra strength Tylenol that evening. Everything was so smooth from start to finish and I can't thank Dr. Stambouleigh and his staff enough for their kindness and skill--they truly turned a nightmare situation into a relief. *Funny thing...as I was editing this review, he literally called to check on me. Amazing!

On the day of my appointment I got a call from the front desk asking me if I could come in earlier, because earlier patient has cancelled(that should have been the red flag for me) , I agreed when I arrived the doctor insisted that I needed x-rays, I agreed, he was not very good at placement, failed to give me a lead apron to protect my body from unneeded radiation, but whatever, it was over, he proceeds to probe my teeth, again not very good at it and makes it unnecessarily painful, tells me I need to do a bunch of work that i didn't ask him about. Then ushers me away with his assistant. Back at the front, the lady tells me I need to pay for X-rays or of pocket even though I have insurance, I told her why didn't you tell me before, she tells me she didn't know, I gave her my insurance information a week ago! Then she proceeds to tell me, fine I'll claim it on your insurance under something else(insurance fraud?) I agree just to get the heck out of that place. Don't go there. p.s she also failed to mention that this dentist is out of network for my insurance, at the very last moment. BEWARE

I do not recommend this office. I called because of the strong Yelp reviews, but unfortunately, my…read moreexperience was the opposite. This was a one-minute phone call, and it was enough to turn me off. I explained that we had already done a consultation with another oral surgeon in Saginaw and were shocked by their request for $2,000 upfront, which is why I was calling around for options. Before I could even explain further, the woman immediately cut in with, "Wisdom teeth removal is $4,000-$6,000," which felt dismissive and rushed. When I asked how that could apply to an insured patient--since in-network providers are limited to insurance-allowed amounts--she clarified that was the cash price, not the insured price. I explained that we have insurance and even dual dental coverage. She then told me they only bill the primary insurance, expect patients to pay the balance up front, and require the patient to file the secondary insurance themselves. While this may be common with some private dental offices in DFW, that doesn't make it reasonable. National dental groups understand how to bill properly by submitting both insurance plans and only collecting what they reasonably expect the final patient balance to be. In our case, that meant going from being asked to pay $2,000 upfront elsewhere to paying $300 upfront, with the expectation that the full amount would likely be refunded once secondary insurance processed. When I declined to continue the conversation, her response was a cold, uninterested "Have a good day." No explanation, no attempt to discuss options, and no effort to retain a potential patient. I never even got to this office's actual pricing because I was being rushed off the phone. For comparison, I contacted Monarch Dental, and the experience was night and day. They reviewed both insurance plans over the phone, gave a clear explanation, and booked my son's surgery in under 48 hours. The surgeon's reviews were excellent, and the process was seamless. We're now booked and moving forward--but this office lost a potential customer due to poor communication and lack of patient care. Final recommendation: if you have secondary insurance or want clear billing and options, proceed with caution here. National dental groups offer a far smoother, more patient-centered experience.

After numerous visits to dental offices that caused me to develop severe dental anxiety, I've…read morefinally found a place I'm comfortable with. That's saying a lot considering that I'm in the medical field and know too much for my own good. Had my consult with Dr. Simpson today. His nurse was fantastic. She listened to all my concerns and made me feel at ease. She never judged the condition of my mouth (a couple of broken molars and some angry wisdom teeth). She stayed with me long enough to make sure that I was comfortable, but not so long that I spent unnecessary time in the office. After rads, Dr. Simpson came in. He was very personable, and efficiently devised a treatment plan that included wisdom teeth extraction as well as removing the broken molars so that implants could be placed after recovery/healing. I appreciated the fact that while my wisdom teeth were the foremost issue, he took into consideration issues that could arise in the near future, and decided to fix those at the time of anesthesia as well (to save me an additional anesthetic procedure in the future). He also was able to recommend a good dentist near me since I have had issues with dentists in the past. He was friendly, and didn't talk down to me like other dentists have done in the past. He was precise and direct, which I appreciated. He spoke in medical terms (after realizing I worked in the medical field). I was taken to a financial advisors desk after my consult. I wasn't pressured on a financial level, or told there was a time crunch and things would have to be done immediately. Luckily my insurance covers a hefty chunk of the costs, so I pre-payed for the surgery (which I might add, was exponentially less than what I paid for ONE root canal at a different office. The difference was roughly a grand). I went in today (Monday) and have surgery scheduled for Friday afternoon. So far so good. 5 stars. Beautiful office, courteous staff members, wonderful doctor. No complaints as of yet. Addendum 1/15/16 Still 5 stars. I'm two hours post-op from having 6 teeth removed, and I'm in no pain whatsoever. I was a little nervous about the IV anesthesia, but everything went ridiculously smoothly. I wish all dental procedures were under IV sedation. I remember catheter placement, the IV being started, and then I fell asleep. I woke up in a recovery suite just in time for discharge instructions. I was able to walk post-sedation and even made it up the stairs to my apartment. I still have some bleeding, but nothing worrisome. Dr. Simpson and Nurse Paige are my two favorite medical professionals. This is the first time in over a month that I haven't been in pain... Which is saying a lot considering I'm post-op. I couldn't be happier. Thank you to everyone involved in my care this week. Ps) If you have a choice, ask for Paige to be your nurse. She's amazing at her job. Attentive and caring. Thank goodness she pursued this career. I couldn't imagine going through this without her around. And kudos to Dr. Simpson for a great catheter placement. Seriously. I'm not even bruised.

My experience at Stonebriar Facial & Oral Surgery was horrifying from beginning to end…read more It started with online appointment requests not being responded to and phone calls going unanswered. On my first visit, the assistant performing my X-rays was crass, dismissive, and had absolutely no patient skills whatsoever. Ironically, the only genuinely pleasant person in the office was the young woman who took my payment. When I met Dr. Kirk, he appeared rushed, detached, and entirely matter of fact. The day before surgery, I specifically called the office because I was concerned they were planning to remove a tooth that was not causing me any problems. I was told to discuss it with him before surgery. The next day, I was brought into the surgical room by the same assistant who simply pointed to the room and kept walking. She returned a few minutes later and completely ignored me. I was seated and prepped for IV sedation and I recall a woman named Michelle asking me what perfume I was wearing, so I was still alert. Dr. Kirk entered and immediately began the IV process. I again stated very clearly that I did NOT understand why he wanted to remove a tooth that was not bothering me. I was sedated by him so quickly that I do not even recall whether he responded. What happened afterward was even worse. While recovering from anesthesia, I was treated like an inconvenience rather than a patient. A staff member named Amber repeatedly yelled at me to wake up and physically kicked me multiple times with her foot while I was still recovering from sedation. This was witnessed by my daughter, who became upset enough to tell her to calm down. Amber then became even more aggressive and abrasive. When my daughter told her she was acting crazy, Amber responded by saying "I talk loud." There is a major difference between waking a patient appropriately after sedation and behaving in a hostile, abrasive, and physically disrespectful manner toward someone in a vulnerable medical state. Ironically, my daughter had her wisdom teeth removed here by Dr. Simpson three years ago and had an excellent experience. This office has clearly changed, and not for the better. As someone who has worked in healthcare for over 30 years and who owns a healthcare company myself, the treatment I received here was beyond unacceptable. I have never experienced such cold, chaotic, and unprofessional patient care in any setting, much less a surgical setting. I absolutely cannot recommend this practice. I am also filing a complaint with the Texas State Board of Dental examiners.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Pavelka and his ENTIRE team! I'm SO grateful that I was…read morereferred to him by my orthodontist for double jaw surgery. My surgery was a year ago and I'm SO happy with the results! It was one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I couldn't be more happy with the results and my appearance. I have so much more confidence in my appearance now and receive tons of compliments on my transformation. I've had a lot of experience with doctors and surgeons, and I can tell you that Dr. Pavelka is as good as it gets, and is, in my opinion, the GOLD STANDARD. I'm so spoiled by this experience, that now I'm critical about every other healthcare provider I visit because they aren't as nice, or aren't as organized, or aren't as proactive, or available or whatever - as Dr. Pavelka and his team! I seriously wish I could go to them for all my healthcare needs. Jaw surgery isn't an easy thing to go through. It's scary and invasive, it's appearance altering, it's painful - so you HAVE to have someone you can trust. And not just trust. You have to have someone who is kind, who makes time for you, who genuinely cares about your wellbeing and your results. At every step of the way, Dr. Pavelka and his team went above and beyond for me. They always made me feel comfortable and reassured, and they even stepped up to the bat for me as my advocate while I was facing some major obstacles with insurance and the hospital. I've never had a healthcare team make me feel so important and cared for. Dr. Pavelka is so caring, he's a great listener, and he always made time for me when I had questions or needed a last minute appointment. So often doctor's are in a hurry to wrap things up and he never once made me feel that way. Dr. Pavelka's team - and his partner Dr. Fields - are incredible too. Every person in that office knew my name and always greeted me with enthusiasm. I adore all of them, especially Lauren! Thank you for everything!

I recently had a life or death situation.... LITERALLY…read more Over the weekend, I had a nosebleed that would not stop. This was not a simple nose bleed. I lost A LOT of blood. It was the scariest situation that I have ever experienced in my life. Imagine spending HOURS trying to stop a bleed in an emergency room. Imagine leaning forward and seeing blood stream from your nose. Then imagine leaning back and blood is running down your throat. Then imagine both nostrils being plugged so that it is uncomfortable to breathe... your lips are drying from the amount of air that your mouth is trying to take in. You're scared to fall asleep because you are not sure how you are going to breathe throughout the night. Your face, your hands and your clothes are covered in blood. Your nose is raw from constantly wiping with ANYTHING you can get your hands on. That was my situation on a very recent Saturday night. The next day, I was wheeled into a special surgery done by Dr. Pavelka.... ON A SUNDAY EVENING. He was able to cauterize several areas of my nose but was unable to completely stop the bleed due to my severe deviated septum. Here is where things became wonderful for me... Dr. Pavelka was extremely forward-thinking in his approach to my situation. He was up to speed on the latest advances in medical technology to recommend "maxilllary artery embolization". I'll spare you the details but its some very cool and verrrry scary stuff. Dr. Pavelka came to my room EVERY DAY. He took the time to examine me, answer my questions, and address any concerns that I had about this procedure. (He wasn't the one doing the procedure... as a brain surgeon had to do it).... Even though he was not my actual doctor "assigned" to me in the hospital, he knew the most about my situation. He seemed to CARE more about my situation than my primary care physician and the doctor assigned to me- through the hospital. Dr. Pavelka single-handedly took charge and was instrumental in the conversations (and action plans) of the Intervention Radiology team. He told them exactly what my problem was and made sure that they were informed/ prepared for my procedure. He took the time to make sure that he understood my procedure so that he could put my mind at ease. He even convinced the surgeon (performing the procedure) to speak to me personally- before the procedure. He literally worked hand-in-hand with everyone (literally everyone) to make sure that I was in good hands. Not only that, he reached out to some of his fellow ENT surgeons to find someone that was available to perform my septoplasty and turbinectomy. Again, Dr. Pavelka checked on me every day and pretty much assured that I was not bleeding as bad as I was in the beginning. He made sure that I left the hospital in a better state of mind than when I entered. Having said all of that, I want to really drive the point home that Dr. Pavelka could have easily did his part, handed it to someone else and went about his routine. He didn't do that. He really took me under his wing and made sure that I was taken care of. I am alive and doing fine because of Dr. Pavelka. Had I not gone to that hospital, there is no telling how my situation would have turned out. And I am not exaggerating. Texas Presbyterian is taking the lead in technology and procedures (like the one I received) that not too many hospitals are doing. So again, had it not been for Dr. Pavelka knowing about that work, there is no telling how I would be sharing my experience about that weekend. I can't tell you anything about his private practice... but I CAN vouch for his character and his knowledge of medicine. I can vouch for his bedside manner and good heart. So if you're wondering if it is a good idea to have Dr. Pavelka as your doctor, I highly recommend him!
