I am so impressed with this PP location. I've been to a few locations around SD and this one is by far my favorite. I've been here prior to the start of COVID and during and the office has always been super clean. Upon entering on the third floor of the building, a MA will take your temp. And screen you for COVID symptoms. It's worth mentioning that I've always had an appointment and highly recommend making an appointment if possible. It's very easy to do online. They accept walk-ins but it will be a super long wait and they don't guarantee that you will be seen. My first appointment was for birth control and I had some concerns. The staff was incredibly friendly and great at what they do. I had to have some blood work done and the medical assistant was so professional and my blood draw was painless. I was so surprised at the amount of time the Nurse Practitioner spent with me. She did an examination and she as well was extremely professional and it was quick and painless which I REALLY appreciate. She spent time with me and genuinely seemed to care about me and my health. I didn't feel embarrassed or judged at all. The only negative was that even with an appointment, I had to wait so long. My appointment was at 12:20 and I left at 3:10. After checking in at reception, I waited about 20 mins to go into a room and then waited for about 30 mins for the medical assistant and almost another hour to be seen by the provider. I couldn't take away a star though because my experience was so great that i honestly didn't mind and I'm pretty impatient. My next appointment was just to refill by birth control pills (again with an appointment.) I didn't need to see the provider, just needed to pick up the pills and I was there for a little over an hour with most of the time there spent waiting. I've been to other locations where the staff was extremely rude, judgmental and just obviously miserable people but this location was the exact opposite. I'm really appreciative and grateful for the services they provide and the respect/empathy they have for their patients. Last thing, this location along with downtown often have pro-life protestors there in the morning. I have thick skin so they don't bother me but they can be rude and offensive to some. They're usually gone by noon though. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for 8:00 AM on 5/13/26 at this location. As I was walking in, I received a message that my appointment had been canceled with no explanation. I understand providers sometimes need to cancel, and I also understand they may not have been able to see me the same day, but the way the situation was handled afterward was extremely frustrating. I came in because I'm still experiencing pain and complications from a procedure done through this office, and I had previously been told it was important to come back for follow-up care. I had already tried calling multiple times before coming in and was left on hold for over 2 hours without ever reaching anyone. Nautica was the only person at the front desk when I arrived. When I tried explaining the situation and that I was in serious pain, I felt dismissed instead of helped. Communication was difficult because she spoke very quietly, and when I asked her to speak up so I could hear her clearly, the interaction immediately became tense and defensive. Being met with attitude simply for asking someone to repeat themselves or speak louder is unprofessional and unnecessary. She also stated that the office had tried calling me that morning, but I did not receive any calls, voicemails, or missed calls from them prior to arriving. I was worried about my health, trying to get answers, and also needing to get to work, so the lack of compassion and urgency was upsetting. Patients dealing with ongoing complications should not feel brushed off when they are actively trying to seek medical care. read more

Planned Parenthood - El Cajon - They canceled my appointment as I walked in - Medical Centers Near Me - El Cajon, California

Very patient and personable staff. From the music in the lobby being calming to the emotional reassurance I received the whole appt. I'm so thankful for planned parenthood and this location specifically, my doctor was so informative and knowledgeable about the procedure I needed. The nurse also made me feel so welcome. It's always scary doing anything related to woman's health for me and I can definitely say this is the best place to go. I'm low income and they helped me apply for a program that would help me pay for what I needed. Non judgmental people that just want to help. Thank you guys for all that you do! You saved my life and my future! read more

I was first introduced to planned parenthood by a friend and at first, I wasn't sure exactly of everything they provided to women/men in need but over the years, found out that they actually provide a great deal of resources and assistance. I've never had issues receiving assistance and have never felt discriminated against either. The women at the front desk were respectful and kind. The doctors were even better and were very thorough and understanding. I recommend planned parenthood especially for young women. It came in clutch for me in my younger years as well as for friends as well. read more

Had an amazing experience!! The nurses were very helpful and were able to answer all my concerns.

Don't even schedule an appointment here. I been coming here for years but for some reason this year of 2022 ; they are beyond behind on people appointments. Don't expect to be seen around your appointment at all ; I came here a few months ago & had to leave because I was there over an hr & seen no one & had to go pick up my kid. I figured maybe it was a bad day. So I'm here today 9/13/22 & it's the same thing. I knew it was going to be a long wait when I walked in & seen so many people waiting in the lobby: obviously they were here before me so I was going to be seen after all of them. My appointment at 12 it's now 1245pm & I'm still in the lobby . I have work this afternoon smh this is out of hand maybe they should be more cautious of how many appointments they take throughout one day because they are extremely behind. Why do I have to make an appointment. & be on time! But wait an hour & a half to even get to the back & we all know even in the back you have to wait . Just save yourself the time & headache & book another location !! Or just go to primary as I will start doing myself going forward ! read more

Idk how this place is opened or has any good reviews. I walked in got told to wait to be checked in, two other women walk in and the receptionist at the front checked them in while leaving me to sit down. Not to mention I drove 30 minutes to this location to be seen at 2:10 and got told I couldn't be seen until 3. I proceeded to tell her how I felt and she was completely rude. I'm not a comparing person, im not a Karen that's not what i do. But I left there crying because I needed help and no one in there had any compassion for me. I left. I use to Vote for planned parenthood and was a huge supporter but never again. And I'm not stopping here. I'm going to send emails to higher ups because no one deserves to feel like that during a vulnerable time. Anyone at planned parenthood is vulnerable and there for a reason and should be treated with some compassion. That lady is heartless and a terrible representation of what you Planned Parenthood advertises. It's false advertisement. It's a place to be uncomfortable. read more

Be prepared to sit here for a few hours! They over book everyday. If I was you, try going to your regular doctor cause this place sucks!

Just had a really wonky situation here. I had tried scheduling an appointment online, but gooned it up, so I guess the appointment didn't register in their system. Incredibly frustrating, but was mostly my fault for getting confused by the planned parenthood website. But I had a great experience with Sean up front. He was super understanding of the whole situation, he joked around with me up at the window, and managed to schedule me an actual appointment. He can got my information updated in the system and walked me through everything. And their covid 19 restrictions they engaged in seemed highly effective. TLDR; super weird appointment miscommunication was handled politely and effectively by Sean, and their lobby was clean and safe. read more

I typically do not do reviews but I really enjoyed my experience, Sean A. helped me out today and gave me pleanty of information. I didn't have insurance so the nice lady at the front desk helped me enroll in a plan. My overall experience was amazing and put any and all nerves out of mind. Thank you to this team of helpful doctors, nurses, and receptionist. read more

This place is so fucking ridiculous. I have to wait MORE THAN AN HOUR IN THE PATIENT ROOM, NOT WAITING ROOM, EVERY SINGLE TIME I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I don't care for the apologies either bc if y'all were actually "sorry", y'all would do something about it. I was told that every single patient has to wait more than an hour. I got there at 4pm and fucking left at 6pm. a fucking joke. read more

Fantastic Facility (inside) Although the exterior looks dingy and the elevator runs with a few glitches, the actual Planned Parenthood facility is up-to-date, clean, relaxing, and appropriately spacious. Gone are the days of a cramped check in desk and dirty bathrooms. The waiting room is very well maintained and modern in appearance. The exam rooms are well organized and stocked with an overall appealing manner. Let's be serious, going into an exam room you expect a sterile and uncomfortable experience, but they excel at making it clean, inviting, and surprisingly comfortable. The rooms are spacious enough for a patient, his/her stuff, a healthcare provider and assistant, plus chairs etc without it feeling cramped. Plus, the bathrooms are actually clean and nice. Kudos for good bathrooms. Great Staff (Providers too) The office staff were friendly and timely. they efficiently helped me and a number of other patients all while maintaining privacy and respect. Never have I sensed any judgement from the staff, in fact, they are superb resources. I had difficulty finding one of my insurance cards, so the receptionist was able to look up my information, provided me with my medical record number, and did so in an efficient manner. The providers are awesome! My nurse practitioner was friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, and helpful. She did a great job explaining everything, confirming pertinent information, and putting me at ease. I would recommend this office and their staff to anyone of any age. OK Location So the building itself looks dingy. You pull in, the parking lot has some pot holes, the exterior of the building looks run down, and being next to the freeway without any trees just gives the structure an unappealing air. The Planned Parenthood office suite is upstairs (or up the elevator) on the top floor. When I went to enter the elevator, the doors didn't entirely open, the elevator itself looked a bit questionable, and the lights inside were flickering. Once you get past the office building and get to the actual medical suite, your entire experience will change drastically. read more

I made an appointment here, but drove to the wrong hospital in city heights. When I got to the city heights one there was a sign on the office door saying that they were closed during the time of the appointment. The after care review came up and I gave it one star because I thought their scheduling was inaccurate, but after calling I was told I had the wrong one. I am so sorry for that, but i can't find the original place the review was sent. Here is 5 stars for being understanding and kind, and for rescheduling me so quickly. It was entirely my fault and i should have been more careful. Support your local PP. It's important now more than ever to stand by womxns healthcare centers. read more

I love this Planned Parenthood. I've been coming here since I was seventeen and they've always been good to me. I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience here. They are usually pretty quick with their appointments. Everyone is always so genuinely nice and they genuinely care about you and are non judgemental. I've gotta say I love that the most; I've not once ever felt judged for any of my decisions or history. The check in clerks/appointment setters are always friendly too. Everyone there are very professional and respectful, both men and women. They have just about any and every care available. Over the years I've seen them for birth control, STD checks, breast exams, pap smears, pregnancy tests, and a lot more. They will help reduce your fee if you do not have insurance and are low on money. Or if your insurance cannot cover it all. I believe they genuinely have their patients best interest at heart and I will continue to come here and suggest both men and women come here for any needs. Yes they have lots of services for men too! read more

My review is about the NP's they have on staff, and not the actual location (which is nice, clean and quiet). I have been to this location twice now. The first time the NP laughed at me for being concerned about fertility because I'm 26. She then went on to talk about how she was nearing 40 and she's the one who should be concerned. This was unprofessional and she made the situation about her, not me, the patient. The second time I came to this location I had concerns regarding sex and the NP referred me to a sex therapist and told me that it has to do with hormones...without giving me any more information aside from saying "we don't deal with that here." That's fine if you don't "deal with that" but as a professional I expect you provide me with at least some education to provide me that I can't find on google. She also seemed very unsure and like she didn't know what she was even talking about which didn't help me feel comfortable. All the other staff were very nice and professional. read more

This is the only PP I've ever been to. However: -It was a very pleasant office with super nice staff across the board. They even handed out snacks while I was waiting for my consult. -Sean did my initial consult and he was wonderful. -There is ample parking. -Clean waiting room. -Easy to make an appointment online. -Molina covered my IUD in full. MY PERSONAL* EXPERIENCE WITH THE PARAGARD IUD *Very personal and detailed. Only read if you are considering one! Unfortunately, my experience with the ParaGard IUD can't be described as positive. I'm writing this comprehensive and personal story because I hope it can help someone. I initially assumed this was going to be a great option as it's non-hormonal. In reality, I can't help but feel that it created more problems for me. The staff did not tell me to find a ride but my boyfriend insisted on driving me. I'm so thankful he did as I was in a lot of pain. I took the proper Tylenol dosage like they told me to however they had issues getting it up there (part of the reason being that I've never had a kid and it was a tight squeeze, ah). It was a protracted and very painful insertion. I could barely walk after and my boyfriend had to help me down the stairs. No way would I have been able to drive home. I am most likely in the minority as I'm told it's a pretty easy process for most. At home, I took more Tylenol and slept. The intense cramping was gone the next day. However, for a few weeks after, I had daily cramping of reduced intensity as well as regular spotting. It was very uncomfortable and annoying. They warned me about this so I dealt with it. After my first period, it went away. From what I've read, this is generally the case for most people although the length/intensity does vary from person to person. After that, I had one acne breakout (never happened before in my life) and could have sworn my hair was thinning. I also had a few days of bad lower back pain that went away and didn't come back. For me, the physical symptoms (cramping, spotting, back pain) subsided completely after two months. It has been about 2.5 months. The other issues (mental and sex-related) are ongoing. First, I noticed that sex became more painful, particularly in certain positions that were fine before. Still enjoyable but not the same. Second, I noticed that my (usually robust and steady) sex drive was reduced. I just didn't think about it or crave it as much. Third, you can easily feel the string with your fingers which is disconcerting. The worst part of it all however, was the change in my mental state. I have a history of anxiety but in the past few years, I've really learned to manage it well. Since having the IUD inserted, I felt like it has been significantly worse. Additionally, I've had terrible mood swings (way worse than when I was on the hormonal pill years ago) with extreme emotional lows (that included suicidal ideations) and intense irritability. I have also had moments of complete resignation and hopelessness (i.e. what's the point of all this?) and my generally positive outlook/attitude turned into total misanthropy, ardent cynicism, and a feeling of inner death and numbness. I've had trouble sleeping and intense fear in the middle of the night. All of these symptoms happened during PMS. To clarify, I've never had feelings/thoughts of this magnitude and intensity in the past. My previous PMS symptoms have been simple crankiness. I'm also in a good place in my life - I recently moved to SD (which I love) and I have a new boyfriend (who is wonderful and I'm getting serious with). There's no reason for me to sink into this dark emotional place at any point. I feel somewhat crazy writing this but I am doing it so you don't feel alone. That was hard. When I started researching online, I saw that A LOT of women had similar experiences with a copper, non-hormonal IUD and an increase in anxiety, depression, and intense mood swings. I wasn't alone and that really helped. They also all mentioned that their doctors told them that it COULDN'T have been the non-hormonal IUD. But when they had it removed, these symptoms dissipated. Could all these women really be wrong?? I have a hard time believing that. Maybe there just isn't enough research on the IUD's effect on women's hormones as well as copper toxicity in the uterus. I'm not writing this to dissuade you from getting one. Everyone is different and I'm sure there are plenty of good stories out there. I plan on having mine removed because it's just not worth the compromise in mental health. Just to clarify, nothing against PP at all as the medical consensus is the same on this and you're not really advised re: any potential side effects aside from cramping/spotting. I learned about other women's experiences by reading forum discussions online. I think PP is wonderful and thank them profusely. Be safe, informed and always listen to your body. read more

I had to come here for my yearly exam and pap smear and it wasn't a very good experience. When I first came in the door the whole place was filled to the brim with people. It was a full house. I didn't wait long before they called me in to take my vitals and ask me some health questions. She was very professional with her questions and kind. The front desk people were pretty nice as well. That is why I'm giving this place two stars. There are several reasons why this clinic is getting a low score and why I won't ever return. One of of the reasons is they told me that I would be next to see the doctor. 1 hour and 30 minutes later we asked if they forgot about us because they kept saying we were next. We kept seeing people leave and pretty soon my mom and I were the only ones in the joint along with two other people. It was getting pretty ridiculous. So then they say "She is coming right now for you." Right now means ten more minutes. So after an hour and 40 minutes I finally get called in. But then I sit there and wait some more, and wait some more. Over two hours have passed now since my appointment time and I'm getting antsy and am wondering what is taking them so long?? It's night time by now and I have a big grocery shopping to do still. Plus I haven't eaten that much and I'm hungry. I had a blasting headache on top of all this. The doctor finally comes in and is very thorough on the health questions which was nice but I was anxious for the exam to be completed so I could leave before Christmas came again. Oh boy she had no problem speeding up the exam, matter of fact she barely looked at me. I am used to a thorough exam here at the clinic so this shocked me. But it was a different lady (a blond lady in her late 40's or early 50's I would guess). She was in such a rush that she plunged the speculum into my cervix many times over and I was in such pain (and still am). What am I a toilet that needs to be plunged? Not to mention the speculum was seething hot (ever had a hot poker go up you? Not pleasant). After the incident she said "Oh that is hot." Well yeah...uh huh. She should have noticed that before she stabbed me with it. She was sort of rude to me as well and not the nicest of people. The lady they had before was the best. I sure wish she was there still. I am glad that is over with but the whole thing was a nightmare that I don't want to repeat. If I need a pap smear or any other womanly issues I will go to the Chase Ave clinic instead. read more

I am not sure what the stigma on visiting a local planned parenthood is about. Let's not forget who was there for us when we were underage, couldn't talk to our parents about sticky subjects like sex much less birth control. I still visit planned Parenthood for the purpose of showing support to these types of clinics. The front office is always so welcoming and never makes you feel uncomfortable. I was greeted and checked in with Ana. She is the absolute sweetest. She answered all my questions about insurance, costs, and more bc I ask 1000 questions lol. exceptional staff every time I enter the building I feel comfortable and NEVER feel judged by them. the nurses staff and Dr.'s are all extremely curtious and comforting. I have come in crying and left happy as a clam because of the kindness and compassion they ALL show. I am so so grateful for them. NOTE- Don't be cranky with them, its always packed and you may wait a while so bring a good read. they don't prefer you to be on your cell, so honor them when they ask, and be polite. they are so so kind and love it when people are appreciative.
