Planet Sub has been my go to favorite hot sub shop since I was a kid. I absolutely love "the experience" sub, it has grilled chicken, bacon, pepperoni, pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, cream cheese and a chipotle sauce. The bread is homemade daily and it shows because I've never had anything like it before. They offer two different sizes of sandwich which included the half which is about 8 inches and the whole which is about 16 inches. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach and I think I can eat a whole but I ended up with half a sandwich left. Keep that in mind when ordering. Overall this is a must try sandwich shop if you haven't been before.

One of my "Top Ten Sandwiches in KC" for sure! The hot subs at Planet sub are the only thing I'd need if I was stuck inside a yellow submarine. The ooey gooey cheesey carb masterpieces are always better ordered warm, the bread becomes roasty (is that even a word? who cares...) and toasty. The day I visited for lunch with my mom this local neighborhood Planet Sub had a list of "special subs" that caught our eye. My mom decided to be bold and try the Cuban in a sub sandwich form instead of the authentic panini pressed version. And I opted for a Pesto veggie heavy sub but added some protein power with complimentary white meat turkey. Once we received out piping hot tin-foil preserved subs to our table we were ready to fall in love at first bite. Mine had so much melty cheese I was instanly smitten and my mom's warm ham and Cuban classic white cheese made her heart melt. I loved the way the earthy pesto and zingy sundried tomatoes went with the turkey and hearty wheat bread I choose. The thing about Planet Subs menu which puts them above other local (*Mr Goodscents*) sub places is the sheer monstrosity of their menu, the options are overwhelming but in a good way. The creamy club is another favorite served all the time that both me and my mom routinely order. They also have added warm soups to their list of sub accompaniments and dare I say the baked potato rivals Paneras. When thinking of my favorite submarine sandwhich shop in the KC area and it's surrounding suburbs (there's one in Liberty!) only Planet Sub comes to mind, their hot takes on classic and creative sub sandwiches always hit the spot and never sink below sea-level.

    The BBQ Brisket!

This is my top choice for planet sub locations. The people are friendly, and food is always prepared well. We tried their new BBQ brisket sandwich and it was really good! We opted to add onion, bell pepper to my fiancé's half, and minus the cheese since he is lactose intolerant. Now, if I were to get it on my own I would say to keep the cheese and onion, add pickle, add extra sauce, and then you've got a fantastic sandwich! Some other suns we love: the meatball grinder, the pesto bello, the superhero. Definitely worth trying! And if you sign up for their email list, a lot of their emails are BOGO!

First timer. Went during a busy lunch time and was offered water while I waited. Nice touch. Staff making subs were working hard and keeping up with the crowd and hit the expected wait time. I got the Greek chicken wrap. It was completely filled. Good chicken to other ingredient ratio. The addition of dill was tasty. Just wish the olives were Greek olives. I'd pay more for that.

Awesome sandwiches like at all Planet Sub locations, but this one is my favorite of the ones I've been to because they have the best service. They tend to be understaffed, so there can be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it for fresh sandwiches. The staff is always polite and have smiles on their faces, and don't get annoyed when I switch stuff up (bacon mushroom melt with light lettuce, light mayo, no Swiss, double the provolone.) Love their outdoor seating area too.

When we told her it was our first visit to the restaurant, she took the time to carefully go over the menus with us (regular, happy hour, and drinks), providing her recommendations when we asked. Her guidance was spot-on-target! For drinks, I had a Mindful Chai and my friend had the 3-Beverage Flight (Golden Hour, Heart Says Thanks, and Tres Raices). My chai was the BEST I have ever tasted (and I order chai every chance I get!), and my friend loved her 3 drinks (she said Tres Raices was her favorite). For our food, we split an order of the Not Queso Dip and the Avocado Tostadas. We were both very impressed by how fresh the ingredients were, and the blend of flavors in each dish that created a unique and yummy taste. The Kitchen has an open, airy layout that inspires deep breathing, while the arrangement and spacing of tables still provides for intimacy of conversation and minimal ambient noise. Sofhia checked back with us several times during our meal to ensure we had everything we needed and were thoroughly enjoying our food and drink (we were!). It was a delightful meal, and we thank Sofhia, the kitchen staff, and everyone at Whole Harvest Kitchen for such a lovely time. We'll be back!!

We didn't sample, but next time I'd like to try a flight of their wellness drinks! The LETTUCE CRUNCH WRAPS (soy-glazed jicama & tofu, lentil, pickled veg, walnut, cilantro, sesame dip) were an absolute favorite. Highly recommended! The texture was very well balanced. Silky smooth butter lettuce and a delicious sauce on the side, although it truly didn't even need it. The AVOCADO TOSTADAS (blue corn tostada, guacamole, quinoa, white bean, radish, pickled red onion, super seed) were yummy, but our least favorite of the three. Instead of a thin layer of mashed avocados, I'd honestly just put a few nice slices of avocado for the bulk of it. Taste was lovely! It is a totally cold dish, fyi. The HARVEST WOK BOWL (split pea-fu, beluga lentil, farro, snap pea, greens, brown rice, daikon, cashew, ginger-scallion sauce) was completely phenomenal. I could do without the split pea-fu, but it probably added some great nutrition! The FLAVOR and texture of this dish was so so good. I can't even right now. (As my teenager would say...) Enjoy!!

Chicken Gyro (no tzatziki) - Large, well-grilled pita with tomatoes. Simple and solid--this is why we came. It delivered for her--she was in a full-on food coma after. (4/5) Beef/Lamb Gyro - Enormous--one of the biggest I've had. Nice grilled crust on the pita, tasty meat. (4/5) Wish it came with diced onions, and the tomatoes were diced instead of sliced. Tzatziki is a bit thinner and slightly off from what I'm used to. But on mine, there was some on the sandwich and a side--hadn't seen that before. It actually worked well, kept the meat moist--without making it mushy--and let me add more as needed. Added sambal for heat, which helped. Kebab Platter - Mixed bag. Steak kebab was solid (medium rare), minced kebab was decent (in between), chicken was just okay. Rice was very dry--I think I noticed some sumac on top, but either way it didn't help. The salad was excellent--fresh with a lot of pop. Not something I'd order again, but if I did, I'd eat the salad with the rice and kebabs instead of starting with it. It adds the moisture and pop the rest of the plate is missing. That said, each component should stand on its own. (3/5) Overall: 4/5 Gyros carry. Salad and steak kebab were nice, but the platter didn't land. I'd stick to gyros or just do a steak kebab plate next time.

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

This time I went with my husband, he got his meal, and about 10 minutes later they told me they forgot to make mine. It took so long to for the server to return that I asked him to just put it in a to-go box since my husband had finished his meal. He proceeded to ask if we wanted dessert, but I didn't even eat dinner!! To round out the experience, the server threw the check on the table with his back to us and left before we could even comment about the experience. Here are the 3 strikes that solidified why we will never return: 1. They didn't even offer to comp my meal, 2. They blamed it on new kitchen staff - it is NEVER a good look to blame someone else, and 3. When I got my sandwich home and attempted to eat it, it looked like it had been soaked in a vat of olive oil - there was at least 1/4 cup of oil that dripped out of the package, soaked through the paper and the wrap, all of the vegetables were raw, and the garlic dressing was missing. They obviously threw it together just to get something out. The sandwich was completely and ridiculously inedible... and of course because I didn't realize it until we got home, we PAID for it. As I have said in other reviews, I normally only post about really good places, and if I leave a low review, it is to warn people about exceptionally bad experiences. This was so bad it was nearly comical. I highly encourage the ownership and the staff of Nico & Ana's to get some formal training in customer service, food prep, and common decency if you want your business to be successful. It takes a LOT to make me consider a bad review, and after this horrible experience, I didn't think twice because they failed to take ownership of the problems and they didn't even give us an opportunity to share our concerns. It didn't appear as if they cared at all.

Decent option for dinner…read more I stopped by earlier this week on my first night in town, and sat at the end of the bar. The bartender served me a Guinness (on tap, of course!) and then recommended the Monday Steak Night special ($60) - a prix fixe option which included a salad plus one of four types of steak, sides, and dessert. I opted for the house salad (with sherry vinaigrette dressing), the hangar steak (he was selling it hard!), sautéed green beans, and lemon meringue pie. The house salad was superb, with delicious chunks of goat cheese! I also enjoyed the sautéed green beans, loaded with sliced almonds and fresh garlic. The hangar steak was probably the most disappointing, and solely responsible for this review not earning 5 stars. I took half of it to go along with half of the green beans. The lemon meringue pie looked delicious but I could not eat another bite, so that also went into a to-go container. Back in my hotel room that night, working late as I was jet lagged, I ate that pie. OMG! PURE HEAVEN!! And the main reason this review earned 4 stars! Will be back for the salad and green beans and pie! And some Guinness on tap, of course!!

Just drinks on the patio when it's nice out. Last night we decided to try it for dinner. I got the strip steak medium rare with the cauliflower poldnaise. The steak was cooked perfectly and had a great earthy flavor. It had a nice butter on top and was the star of the evening. My wife and I ended up sharing it. I don't like cauliflower but my wife wanted it so I ordered it and it was ok. I could have eaten it, but it was a touch salty. My wife's salmon on the other hand was very mediocre. It was lifeless and not inspired or elevated. Drinks here are always good and they have a fun after dinner drink called coffee and cigarettes. It's better than it sounds and carries some nostalgia for me. The deviled eggs were good as always. Some of the best around, don't tell my mom. The place is loud inside. Our server was good and we have always had good service here. Overall we liked it and will come back, but we are sticking to the steak.
