I am a little disappointed to see not as many ellipticals anymore at this location! I use these off then and a few of them have been out of service for quite some time . I also noticing that at least the womens locker/restroom area is not as well kept up anymore ..i understand it is a busy time of year, but cleanliness is A MUST to keep long time members! The only thing keeping me at this PF as of right now is the community i have built and the hours. If I find another 24 I am out and I will take several with me. I tried to join this planet fitness yesterday with the classic membership and was a little put off by upselling of the black card to my elderly parents, but no big deal; it's their job. I quickly found out there was no bench press and decided to cancel my membership as I wanted to be in a gym with one. I called planet fitness accounting the next day and they will not wave the $60 sign-up fee, nor the first month's fee, even though I used none of their services and immediately retracted my membership. I got a few times per week. Rarely do I have to wait for machines and I like the addition of a trainer to aid in my workout experience.

If you are into just doing a workout and then going home all smelly and disgusting this is your gym. None of their showers have ANY hot water. I am calling the Onondaga County Health Department today to report the unsanitary conditions in the bath and shower rooms. There are several other Gym's close by that you should look into before committing to any Plant Fitness operation. read more

Planet Fitness was founded in 1992, in Dover, New Hampshire, when Michael and Marc Grondahl acquired a financially struggling gym and dramatically reduced prices to compete against better-known brands. Their low-cost business model focused on the needs of occasional or first-time health club members, rather than more experienced members. In 1993, the Grondahl brothers hired Chris Rondeau, Planet Fitness' current CEO, to work the front desk. Rondeau and the Grondahls recognized that there was a greater opportunity to serve a much larger segment of the population if they changed the gym environment, both in attitude and format, by creating a non-intimidating, low-cost model. Planet Fitness then became known as the "Judgement Free Zone," aimed more at the average user than the bodybuilder type of fitness enthusiast. As a fat guy, Planet Fitness is the kind of gym I want to go to. It's cheap, stocked full of plenty of equipment, and while their "Judgement Free Zone" gimmick can be a little hokey, they do tend to be patronized by people of average fitness levels just looking to get a quick work out in, as opposed to extremely serious fitness fanatics who spend hours a day at the gym. Anyone feeling self-conscious will feel welcome at their gyms, as it has always seemed to me that patrons aren't very interested in who else is at the gym or their fitness levels. The club's two membership levels are $10 and $21.99 per month: the $10 per month level includes access to cardio and strength equipment, unlimited group fitness instruction and pizza and bagels once a month; the $21.99 per month ("Black Card") level allows members to bring one guest per day at no charge, access to all Planet Fitness locations, and access to extra amenities, such as tanning booths and massage chairs. This location is one of the larger ones in the area, and thus, has a higher quantity of equipment than some other locations. It unfortunately also has the highest quantity of out of service and most run down equipment of all the locations I've visited. This is the location I frequent most, and there's never been a time I've visited where there isn't out of service machines. I counted 6 out of service treadmills the last time I was here, along with the one I was using only half working, as the incline feature wasn't working. Buttons were even falling off the controls. The locker room and bathrooms are some of the worst of the locations I've been to as well. The locker room has several lockers missing doors, and the bathrooms are typically kinda gross. While it's one of the bigger locations in the city, it's also in a very central location, and tends to be busier and harder to find machines to use, especially with the amount that they usually have out of service. The pros to it though are that, seeing as it is in a very central location, it's very close to highways, and only right down the street from Erie Blvd, in case you're looking to squeeze in a work out while running errands. Beng one of the bigger ones, even though it tends to get busier than others, there's still plenty of room and it rarely feels camped. It definitely could use some improvements, but it's still decent enough to use. read more

I've been coming to this location for a couple of years now. There are plenty of machines, even during peak times (even now, during the post New Year rush.) That being said, I strictly do cardio, so I can't speak to the weightlifting wait (which from an observer's perspective, doesn't seem to be terrible.) Now that the renovation is complete, everything looks really new and slick. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. A nice place to workout. read more

great gym for beginners! im not looking for anything too crazy and this gym is perfect for me! i do cardio along with ab workouts daily and i can do all of that here! the gym is clean, with team members frequently coming around cleaning machines throughout the day. the locker rooms are nice and clean as well! it's never been crowded any of the times i've went and i would definitely recommend! read more

I travel extensively throughout the country and have been to many planet fitness locations. This is by far the dirtiest gym I've been to. There is no maintenance or cleaning going on. There was no hot water today. Many of the machine are missing bolts, ripped pads etc. I Definitely do not recommend this location read more

The new employee at this place are so lazy they don't clean the man bathroom at all. The bathroom always stinks and filthy they don't fill up the paper towels at all now only we have like two paper towels boxes at gym so if you want clean the equipment to use you have to cross the gym to get paper towels i told the guy front desk but he was being so rude and he didn't care at all come to fix or fill up the paper towels box or clean the man bathroom. I'm hope the management addressed this issue asap. read more

Today was my first visit. So far, I am definitely a fan of this location. Oneida is my 'usual place.' I decided to try the Dewitt location because it is much larger than the Oneida location. The gym was not very busy at all. Only a small handful of people working out at the time and they all kept to themselves. The locker room is great. Much bigger locker selection and the locker size is much better than I am used to. I also enjoy that the shower and changing areas are 'secluded' from the locker area. There is a better selection of machines here and the staff was great. Drink prices are posted on the cooler. (For some reason, they are not posted in Oneida. If they are, I have never noticed a price list in my dozens of trips there.) I would highly recommend! Only a 4/5 rating because I have only been there once so that may change....but I don't think it will! Very much so worth the $20/month. Oh...one more thing. The gym itself is great, but the parking is terrible. Not a very big lot considering the size of the facility. This may present a problem during peak hours for someone such as myself who normally drives a larger vehicle. Other than that it was great! I will definitely be back soon. :) read more

a gym for $10 and the equipment actually works. what more could you ask for?? I usually go in the wee hours of the am so getting on a machine is never a problem. They have 20 flat screen tvs at the front of the gym playing 10 channels, that each machine tunes into. the peeps at the front desk are pleasant. There is a coat rack when you first walk in so that you dont have to schlep your winter wear around the gym. have yet to explore the locker room so can't comment on that. they are having a few leak issues at the moment, so buckets are scattered around/on the machines. good option for someone who isn't looking for anything fancy- just a few machines to squeeze in a little workout! read more

Worst PF in the area. Outdated cardio machines, buckets on the floor to catch the rain dripping through the ceiling, and there is always caution tape around one of the machines. Owner of this franchise is cheap and it shows. Giving it 2 stars as they're not expensive. And don't even attempt to tan there unless you want instant skin cancer. The ONLY good thing about this gym is that it is open 24 hours. Overall half the equipment is broken or outdated, while the other half is just plain dirty. The entire gym is not clean; just put your hands on any of the weights and they'll be covered in black, watch to see if (any of the 2 working) tanning beds are actually cleaned, or just ask when they last cleaned the (cold) showers? They have revolving staff, that are barely trained due to the laziness of their incompetent manager.if you have any problems I suggest going straight to corporate, because he cannot resolve any issue. I hope you save your money (and health) because if a heath inspector goes in, they'll be shut down in no time. read more

Had an "included in your membership" training session with "Christopher." He was fantastic and super nice too. He focuses on your specific needs and teaching you how to do exercises/machines correctly. The remodel is wonderful too! Impressed with the cleaning skills of "Maria". Erin, the supervisor/manager is always ready to please. These people have been with the company for quite some time and their hard work ethic is appreciated:) When they advertise this gym is for everybody, it truly is.....No matter who you are you are welcome. read more

This place will be nicer after the construction is done but compared to the other Planet Fitness locations I have been to across the country, this one is sub par. I couldn't find a water fountain in all of the mess. If you are from out of town like I was, I would try the other location in Syracuse. read more

I've been going to this PF for years and another one in the area. There's plenty of equipment so even while the attendance swells during New Year's resolution season there's little difficulty getting a workout. The staff is pleasant enough. All different kinds of people go here - fat, ripped, teen, middle-aged, geriatric, black, white, men, women, Bosnian, African. Most crowded late afternoon and evening M-Thurs. Least crowded Fri, Sat nights. They recently in 2015 got tons of new cardio machines that have good-working audio/video things and they added stretching cages. The new machines are much better but they have less space for you keys/water bottle/snotrag/phone, a minor negative and the power adapter is only for 30 pin Apple devices, which are out of date. What about us Android havers? Kidding. Not really important. The building used to be in bad shape, but the owner from whom PF rents recently in 2015 and 2016 did some work - finished the grout on the men's room floor, re-did the roof which had leaked really badly all over, graded the parking lot which used to have huge potholes and now just has irritating puddles. There's still major pieces of concrete blocks missing on the back wall on the outside where freeze/thaw damage destroyed them, but the inside has just gotten to an acceptable level. The parking lot lighting is all on the building, not on poles, so it's a little dimmer than it should be out there. Overall a great place - cheap, tons of equipment, genuinely non-threatening environment, friendly employees. read more

First time i took my shoes off to change them and step on the lcokerroom floor, black part, my sock instantely tired black. I checked their thermostat the other day and it was set at 79! It should be set at like 65. I almost passed out working out it was so hot and humid with no air flow. Teir machines are dirty, with layers of dust. Not once have i ever seen an employee walking around cleaning l, vacuuming anything. I worked at a planet fitness and all day everyday, we were cleaning. read more

I'm a newbie here in upstate NY from Los Angeles, CA. I was scouting for a new gym as part of my new year's resolution to get back in shape. In LA, I was a member of Gold's Gym, but I became curious with Planet Fitness when I saw their tv ad. So I went to the one in Dewitt. I was hoping for a trial membership, because I wanted to know if the equipment and crowd are ok. To my surprise, the manager told me that they don't have even a one-day trial membership. She said that if I wanted to use the gym for the day I would pay $20, which is totally absurd!!! For a company who takes pride in not making judgments, they certainly focus on getting their client's money!!!! So DON'T GO HERE!!!!! They're absolute capitalists who are not invested in their clients' health and fitness. I would have given them 0 star if only yelp allowed me to. read more

I just started going to this gym and this is my "home" location. They have many machines and are a clean facility. The staff are nice during the few interactions I've had. I went tanning here once and it was a clean and nice machine and the employee was helpful for my first time using it. Things I don't like about this location- there is construction supplies scattered about which is annoying to see and be in the way. I haven't seen any active construction since I've been there. It looks like it's been there for a while. I'm curious to see what they are changing or adding to see if it's nice! And the other complaint I have is I often go after work around 1-2am. I went one day and the male janitor was in the ladies locker room the whole time I was there (at least an hour) until I asked another employee to let me in, I had to change in the tanning bed room and finally asked to go in so I could use the restroom. I had to carry my bag with me to each machine as I wasn't comfortable leaving it on the ground somewhere with my wallet and keys. I understand it is a large locker room that must be cleaned and early am is the best time but it was inconvenient for me. read more

The place has nice equipment and it is always clean but the staff is so rude and stupid. I brought my wife with me once but I wasn't sure how the guest program with my Black Card membership worked. I asked the young man at the front desk but I called it the "Plus 1" program. He didn't get it or even try to figure out what I meant, he just told me they didn't have any program like that and everyone had to be a member to work out. Another employee was listening in and corrected him, the original employee's response was "Why didn't you just say Guest pass? What are you stupid?" I've tried to call these people a bunch of times to talk to a manager about the employee's behavior but every time I called I get a recorded message that states "The time warner customer you have tried to reach has not set up their voice mail yet." I wasn't even sure I was calling a business at this point. When I asked about this at the front desk, they confirmed that I had the right number but that they only have one line and if someone is on the phone you get that message. Very unprofessional. How long does it take to setup a voice mailbox that makes you sound like a business? Or just shut it off so the caller gets a busy signal? Also, I'm not happy about the direct withdrawal from a checking account payment method. I've just had trouble with another vendor taking out more than they should and went to talk to Planet Fitness about taking another form of payment. They refused for the same strange reason they gave me last time. When they took credit cards for membership, people didn't keep them up to date with expiration date changes. This cause the gym to lose tons of money because I guess they couldn't seem to figure out how to suspend an account like this and make the member give a new expire date before they can work out. Because of my recent troubles with direct withdrawal, I have closed the account Planet Fitness would be drawing on. I am not interested in letting anyone take money out of my account anymore, so I didn't want to give them my new checking account numbers. I offered to pay the next few months in advance with my credit card but they said they can't do that. They will not take any other form of payment for memberships, so I canceled with them. This incurred me a $59 fee because I hadn't completed my year contract yet and guess what? They took my credit card for this fee. They're just a terribly run, unprofessional business. read more

Gym looks good on the outside but not the right equipment to give you good results. If you want no results go this gym. Management is clueless and did not even know what a smith is. She also told me about free pizza Mondays, it's a gym, I want to lose weight not gain it. This franchise needs to stop existing as it gives real gyms a bad name. It is super dark and set up very different then all the other ones I've been to which are set up almost the same. The bathroom is in the locker room so there's almost no privacy because there is no wall separating them so if you go everyone will hear you. Only really positive thing is staff is upbeat. read more

For the second time, in the middle of my work out, the fire alarms went off and the building was evacuated. Last time this happened I was in the shower, talk about an inconvenience! This time I had to leave without even taking a shower, which is clearly not ideal! I am done with this gym. I've tried to make the best of the membership due to the location and great price, but sending people out into the cold in Syracuse twice (that I know of) because of a clearly faulty alarm is no way to do business. Its called upkeep and repairs people. I am just going to spend more elsewhere to avoid the issues that planet fitness keeps presenting. Oh, also I was going to take a picture in the locker room before I was rushed out of the paper towels wrapped around the drains of the sinks. All of the sinks looked like they had been wrapped up with a full roll of paper towels. That's what passes for fixing leaky pipes?? Heard of plumbers? or even DIY youtube channels?
