The receptionists were not very friendly before or after my appointment. I arrived early for my appointment but my stylist came out 10 minutes late. 5 minutes into our appointment they left me to touch up another client who was not satisfied with their cut from the day before. The rest of the session went well and all of my questions were answered and techniques were explained. At the end of the appointment however, when I asked if the instructions on how the products should be used could be written down (Their website says: "You will also receive your very own step-by-step Curlscription card to take home."), the stylist said they were unwilling to do that because their handwriting was bad so either I could do it myself or one of the receptionists could. It did not go unnoticed that the receptionist raised her eyebrow at the stylist but showed not interest in actually helping. One of the receptionists started to hand me a piece of paper but then half way through the conversation put it back. When I asked to write the information down my self they did eventually give me something to write with and on but the whole situation was just very awkward. When it came time to pay, I was still charged full price even though my hair was not dried. I am fine with the fact that they didn't want customers staying in the salon due to Covid (they did mention this the day before my appointment over the phone) but to send customers out in cooler temps with soaking wet hair seems a bit rude. I confirmed with the receptionists that I was still being charged for a service I was not given. They appeared apathetic and reluctantly gave me a microfiber towel that the day before they had promised I would receive. Overall I am disappointed in this salon and wish I had read other people's reviews before booking an appointment here. read more

I wish I could turn back the clock. I am absolutely devastated. I had a horrible experience at planet curls! I told the hairdresser that I wanted to keep the length of my hair. She showed me on my back how much she would take off. My hair is literally above my shoulders now. I look like I have a helmet on my head. I don't even wanna go out in public! There is a different technician that did the treatment on my hair. She was extraordinarily Careless. She got the treatment on my lips and in my eye. As well as splashing tons of water on my face. After she walked in front of me and walked away from me absolutely not caring whether I was following her or not. I felt like I was not taken care of at planet curls. I will never go there again. Stephanie is fabulous. Went in for cut and color, and the experience surpassed my expectations. I admit that I was initially a little leery - the name of this place is to the point, but a bit cheesy. So when I first moved here last year, I tried alternative salons. But I could never get a good cut. Then my friend - with very curly hair - told me she went here and the reco sold me. So glad I finally tried it. Even though it's far from my house, I will be back (and love that they have a loyalty program). Stephanie is so professional, but also so easy to work with. I felt comfortable telling her my preferences. And when I asked her for advice, I also felt confident that she knew what she was doing. Her cut is the perfect Deva cut and style. It's the first time in a LONG time that I left a salon with curly hair, not a blowout (and was happy about it). And I LOVE love that they use Wella color. My absolute favorite. Wella color touch is a Demi permanent, so it won't dry your hair out as much (and curly hair already tends to be dry). The price is fair. And they are so welcoming. They offer beverages and snacks. My overall experience at Planet Curls was great. The staff is incredibly friendly and the salon has an open and welcoming environment. Charlie knew right away the type of look I was going for with my highlights. He was friendly, but not too talkative which I liked. I've been coming to this salon for several years, and I recently went there for a haircut in the midst of the covid pandemic. In general, I always have a lovely experience, from the folks who greet me and seat me in the waiting area, to the experience of the cut, wash, and style. I always leave happy with my cut and impressed with how great a job they do of styling my hair. Katie has been cutting my hair for a year now, and I love working with her. In terms of the covid pandemic, they did a really amazing job adapting. Everyone was masked and socially distanced, and they took pains to ensure that the salon was never bustling with too many people. I was extremely pleased with my experience at Planet Curls. The waiting area was nicely furnished, and they even offered a drink (I had some cucumber water). I had an appointment with Macy, who was friendly and attentive. I'm already a follower of the Curly Girl Method (which is what these Deva-certified salons practice), but she still offered some helpful tips and was able to answer the handful of questions that I had about my hair routine. After cutting she massaged shampoo and conditioner into my hair, then we flipped my hair upside down to scrunch in gel, then sat under the hair drier for a bit. Scrunched again and put in some finishing product and I was good to go. I was very happy with the end result. Remarkably, Lorraine Massey herself, who literally wrote the book on curly hair and created the curly girl method/DevaCurl line of products was in the shop while I was there to promote her new book and talk to the customers, so I got to say hi to her which was really cool. If you have curly hair I highly recommend Planet Curls. After my experience today I will *definitely* be coming back when I need my hair cut again. read more

Their website has tons of info about their procedures and what to expect, including the best way to prep your hair for your appointment. The staff were all very accommodating and kind, and my appointment started right on time. Andrew was awesome: super knowledgeable and friendly, and he walked me through a ton of great daily maintenance tips to keep my curls in their best shape possible. Just walked out of Planet Curls and I'm obsessed with my hair! I've only met one hairstylist that can work with my natural hair and she's back in California. I went to this salon with high hopes for my haircut (even though none of their Yelp photos portrayed exactly what I wanted, which should have been a warning sign). I hate the haircut I got. I wouldn't go to Charlie again, and I'm not even sure I want to try Devacurl again. I came in with a ton of reference photos: front, side, back. Charlie didn't spend too long looking at them, but said he got the idea. I believe Devacurl salons only do dry cutting -- and I'm not opposed to the concept... but my curl also changes as my hair gets longer, and I was pretty overdue for a cut (5 months since my last). So was I getting an evaluation and cut based on not-how-my-hair-normally-behaves? After the first cut, Charlie washed and left me under a hood to dry. I normally use a diffuser, but since Devacurl is supposed to be the expert in curly hair, I trusted his decision and didn't speak up. I was pretty horrified by what I looked like coming out of the hood. My hair was much straighter and flatter than normal. No volume at all, no curl. He then took a second pass with the scissors. This made me very uncomfortable, because at this point... how was he making his cutting decisions? My hair is cut in three distinct layers: shortest (too short) around the crown, a medium layer, and too long at the bottom (like Charlie was trying to preserve length). It's the inverse of the haircut I wanted: the bottom grows fastest, and I wanted a style that was more full (like a lion) than long (like a straw mushroom cap). The salon itself is nice enough. Maybe other stylists here are better than Charlie (the reviews on Devacurl's Find a Salon have nice things to say about Stephanie?). But I won't be back. And never again will I assume that a hairdresser I've just met knows more about my hair than I do. Small things: 1. Charlie was half an hour late to see me (first appointment of the day). It wasn't a huge deal (only happened one time), but the other reviews on Devacurl's website made me realize it's a frequent occurrence for him (and actually, reading those reviews, it sounds like a lot of people have been unhappy with his work). 2. He never brushed the cut hair off me. The cashier was so embarrassed, she stage whispered to a nearby employee to grab a brush before I walked out the door. read more

I will admit that I didn't know what the deva curl concept was before I came to this salon but it had good reviews and I have curly hair so I was willing to give it a try. My haircut was with Charlie. I told him I just wanted a trim for damage and for my layers to be freshened up to correct my shape. When I saw the method of the dry and curly cut I asked him if my hair would be even when I straightened it. He sounded like he got offended and said of course, all of my cuts come out even (or something to that extent, it's been awhile). I admit, I shouldn't have to ask a professional stylist that but I didn't see any of that pulling of the hair down to ensure even-ness. Sure enough, a few weeks later, now that I have straightened my hair, I see all the uneven ends. It is unacceptable to pay $60+ for a hair cut and it not be even. read more

Disappointed is an understatement! I went in for a haircut with Macy. She did not communicate with me at all. I honestly don't feel like she even acknowledged me. Now I understand that everyone has bad days, but when you're in this line of work you cannot come across that way with a client. She spent about 10 minutes with me, including "consulting" me about my hair, and then cutting it. I was then passed off to about 3 different people who had no idea what they were doing to wash and style my hair. No one was interested in looking at pictures of what my hair typically looks like. I followed their guidelines and did not add any product or style my hair at all before my curly cut. Safe to say, the hair I walked in with is not my typical curly style. My hair was a combination of stringy and poofy and had absolutely NO curl at all by the time I left. I tried to talk with them about how I style my hair and the devacurl products I use. Did they listen? No. The best part was when one "stylist" added globs of who knows what to my hair and then stuck me under the dryer for only 5 minutes. That 5 minutes turned into 20 because she was busy sitting at the desk doing nothing. After seeing so many positive things about this salon, I am so disappointed I wasted my time and money making the trip out there. Worst haircut of my life. Don't bother going in unless you've got super tight springy curls because that's all they seem to be interested in styling. read more
