We are so fortunate to have a specialty food store close to our home in the Animas Valley! I shop at PJ's at least twice a week and everyone that works there is always polite and very helpful. Very clean and organized with lots of prepared foods to choose from. Great for picking up items on short notice, but big shopping there is a wallet buster for the average consumer. Save your money and make a trip in to Durango for supplies. Liquor store next door is also very well stocked, but prices were inflated there, too. I'm a local and shop at PJ's almost everyday. The manager is always extremely rude to me and makes snide comments. She's also made rude comments about me wearing my mask after a near death Covid hospitalization. Her customer service is despicable. I'm not sure why this small grocery store would have a manager of this character. read more

We came here for hamburger beef and buns for a grill night during our stay. We loved: the selection was high quality and everything we needed (produce and meat were fresh and so good), local items available to try which was a great plus and the workers were all so nice and helpful! You get what you pay for so just like going to Whole Foods, it's about the quality and experience too... this isn't a bargain store... we loved it but we are Whole Foods folks so it felt like home to us! read more

They have a great meat market and a good selection of groceries and essentials. Excellent customer service. Everyone I have interacted with is very friendly. True it's a little pricier than driving into Durango, but you do not have to deal with the traffic and crowds that you have to deal with at the bigger grocery stores in town. We live in Dalton and we are extremely thankful for the convenience. We would be even happier if they were open until 8:30 or 9. read more

I live in Hermosa but for some reason had not ventured into PJs. Today I finished running errands and decided to check them out on the way home. They made me a kick ass sandwich and their baked goods were tasty and reasonably priced. Very personable deli staff, and I found out that they make breakfast burritos in the mornings! Perfect place to stop on your way to Purg or the trails. read more

I have never met a more unprofessional, unpleasant, and unhelpful salesperson than the guy working in the liquor store. He was so dismissive and angry when I asked a simple question about a beer in stock that he seemed to have an actual grudge against me. I will not return and I will tell my friends to shop elsewhere. I would choose a lifetime of sobriety rather than face that rude guy again. People in public service shouldn't hate people and sneer at their existence. read more

Waaaay overpriced. Like twice as expensive. Went to the deli got bread and some chicken salad. Bread tough and dried out. Chicken salad from the deli had shredded can chicken - but they still charged like it was gourmet quality. I am staying right across the street and I would not go back there for any reason. This market is super convenient for the people who live up north near Trimble. They also have some interesting items on display! My mom and I always get one of the cakes they have in the dessert/deli area because they are super nom. The size and sugar content make them shareable. Produce looked pretty decent but nothing in the frozen section caught my eye. I did pick up a Zuberfizz because I haven't had one in forever and they had a nice drink selection. They didn't have Kettle salt and vinegar chips? Kind of weird. Lots of parking, a good amount of staff, but only two bathrooms (a line definitely forms quickly for the ladies). read more

In from out of town. Stopped at Pj's twice already this week (we've been here for 4 days) for their Sack Lunch special. You get half a deli sandwich (turkey, roast beer, pastrami are some options) that has a lot of meat on it, a cold salad or soup, a cookie, and a water or soda for only $8.99. It's the perfect place to stop before fishing or hiking and you need to bring a lunch with. I'd highly recommend the Bacon Bleu Cheese Potato Salas, SO tasty! read more

I can't believe PJ's hasn't been reviewed so far. It's the last place you can get a bite to eat after leaving Durango and heading towards Purgatory. The sandwiches are made of fresh ingredients, and are HUGE. You might consider sharing a sandwich with someone else. There is plenty of parking. read more

We've been coming to Durango for 18 years. PJ's is one of the greatest additions to those of us that live north of town. Great deli, yummy deserts and pastries, fresh soups, nice. We have been going here for several years and enjoying the deli, but this is the first time we had brought our children. My wife brought our young children to PJs to the deli cafe. I was frustrated to hear that they received terrible service, some of which bordered on offensive towards one of our children who has special needs. It seems like idea of customer service has been lost. Won't go again. read more

Always clean and well staffed with friendly helpful people. Fresh meats, veggies, and pastries. A little higher priced than City Market but if you live in the north valley and don't need a bunch of groceries, this should be your "go to" stop. Highly recommended. read more
