Pizzeria Stella was easily one of the highlights of our time in Philadelphia. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and had a really nice vibe that made the whole experience feel special. The food was absolutely amazing. The pizza was perfectly cooked with a great balance of flavors, and you can tell it's made with quality ingredients. Everything came out fresh and tasted just as good as it looked. It's the kind of place where every bite leaves you wanting more. The location is also a huge plus. It's right near so many major attractions, which made it super convenient for us to stop in and enjoy a great meal while exploring the city, especially during Easter weekend. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience for me and my family. We'll definitely be coming back to Pizzeria Stella every time we visit Philadelphia from here on out. read more

Great experience here. I loved the pizza here!! The business operates very efficiently from host to those clearing the tables. Very nice and comfortable decor. Plenty of seating including bar seating. There's also bar seating looking over the pizza cooks. It was a delight to see the production of how they make each pizza. One guy does the dough, another adds the toppings, another puts it into the oven, and the last guy adds the finishing touches and either boxes it up or hands it over to a food runner for those dining inside. Nice menu in addition to the delicious pizzas! I recommend the Caesar salad and grilled octopus. They have a very nice cocktail and wine menu as well. Staff were very nice and also very focused on providing good service. I recommend reservations during peak hours and weekends. However, they will do the best to accommodate. We had a great experience tonight! I started my night off with a limoncello spritz, which was excellent. They use limoncello mixed with a rosé for a sweet not too sweet taste!! we went in for a family style experience by ordering a variety of different plates, the whipped ricotta was insane. My husband and I received a Stephen Starr gift card for Christmas and were excited to try Pizzeria Stella. It has been on our list for a while so this felt like the perfect excuse to try it out! First of all, Head House Square is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Philly. Most of the city is super walkable, but this area has it all as far as shopping and restaurants go. We always look for a reason to visit this part of Philly! As a starter we shared the whipped ricotta and bottle of red wine. It was very filling since it came with focaccia bread. We were also craving pizza so ordered the marinara and wanted to try something different so went for the pistachio. We are so glad we did because it was absolutely delicious! For dessert we tried the fried doughnuts which were actually underwhelming. Our server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant's vibes are great! Giving the restaurant a 4/5 simply because the wine was not that tasty and we were disappointed in the doughnuts. Weirdly good...? You might not think that it's going to be good because of where it is, but it's actually good. Over time, I've had the pepperoni pizza (just what you'd expect), the sausage (I'm not a huge ground meat eater so for me it was just meh), the mushroom (outstanding!), and the pistachio (fun and unique). I also find their Caesar salad really good -- it's hard to make a Caesar special but still a Caesar, and they manage to do it. They also have good signature cocktails. After going to Stella many times over the last few years, I felt compelled to write a review. We sat at the pizza bar and enjoyed watching every pizza you can imagine created during the hour or so we were there. We started with the Little Gem Caesar salad - which definitely isn't little, but it's definitely a gem! The romaine leaves might have been the largest I've had in a salad - tenderly crisp with a delightful Parmesan dressing, and crunchy little croutons. It was so fresh, and perfect for two to share. Next, Polpette! Wood roasted meatballs with a gravy that will momentarily have you forgetting you're having pizza! I savored every incredible bite, and would have asked for bread to soak up the sauce, but knew I wouldn't have room for the pizza. Of course, we had our pizza served after the salad and meatballs. We selected the Pistachio pizza, one of the most unique pizzas I've ever had. It's layered with fontina cheese and red onions, topped with pistachios, and has a subtle, yet seductive rosemary seasoning that pulls everything together. Pizzeria Stella is a very solid Italian spot. I will always return for the olive oil gelato - it's incredible and probably my favorite ice cream in Philly. I will say though, the last time I visited the scoop felt significantly smaller lol. They also have good pizza, we've tried and enjoyed the sausage, pepperoni, peach and prosciutto special, pistachio and tartufo. I like their pasta too, it isn't the absolute best but it hits my Cacio e Pepe craving. Service is always solid. He was at this place at random with another friend of ours many months ago as well, and he told me he had an olive oil gelato and that it was okay. It didn't occur to me that the olive oil mentioned was actually a flavor. I also have the broccoli rabe. It was a healthy appetizer that was presented well and tasted good. The upper part of the wall decked out with what I think was soap dispensers "colored" the place in a very classy way that you wouldn't necessarily notice unless you were looking hard. The place has a great vibe that is very fitting for this part of gentrified South Street now. Great place to go for regular dining with friends, celebrations, or dates. It is a "pretty penny" and then some. So, not a place for cheap eats as we wouldn't expect that from the decor, the brand name Stephen Starr, nor the quality of the staff's service. This wood fired pizzeria is all you will need on Friday evenings. I should say the Arancini was the best I have tasted around the Philly area. The sauce on the pizza and Arancini was finger-licking good! There was a wide selection of vegetarian pizzas on the menu and the pistachio pizza definitely lived up to its hype. Came here hoping to just get a slice but when I came in I saw the pies weren't that big so got seated to see what's good. The one nice mgr got me seated and I asked for drink recommendations and got some lavender color drink which was too sweet for me lol. The server recommended the spinach pizza which I added pepperoni which was good but should have went with something else since I was really looking at the Tarfulo or Quattro Formaggi. Good crust and pizza was decent. But I can't add this to a go to pizza spot I'd cross the bridge for any time soon since im taking the bus lol. Cool place and was surprised to be able to get a same day reservation. We were a party of five and were seated at a long communal table, however we were not near another party. We had two vegetarians in our group and were able to find pizzas that still sounded good to everyone. We got 4 pizzas for 5 of us and had a few slices left over. We stayed in Philly for a few days near the convention center. One night we headed over to Pizzeria Stella. We ordered the Pulpo to start, it was a smaller portion with potatoes it was ok. We then ordered 4 different types of Pizza which are 12 in and Neapolitan style. All were close to $20 in price. Our favorite was the San Daniele. Wonderful location, easy parking on a Sunday. Nice vibe in this place. Feels very inviting with the pizza oven as the focal point for the whole restaurant. We sat next to a party of about 16 people, huge table, and even though our server was tending to them and to us, as well as a few other tables, she never lost focus. There were times that the service wasn't quite as quick as we might have hoped, given the crowd, but once we made our needs known, our server took care of them very quickly. Kudos to her. Onto the food. Both my husband and I are food and beverage workers. That translates into "hard to please." I can honestly say that from start to finish, there was nothing about this meal that wasn't exquisite. Clearly they care about high-quality, fresh ingredients. I got the olive and marcona almond starter, while my husband had the calamari. Both were delicious. We split an order of Cacio E Pepe, which was also very good. Husband ordered the pepperoni pizza, and I tried the pistachio pizza. My husband actually ate more of the pistachio than he did the pepperoni, and I'm the vegetarian in the family! Hahaha. :) Normally I can make a pizza last for three days, but I'm telling you that pizza was gone by 9 o'clock the same night. So unique, so good. I hope they never take it off the menu. Most pizza joints use mushroom pizza as a go to for vegetarian diners, and as a lifelong vegetarian, I'm pretty sick of eating mushroom pizza. Enter pistachio pizza to the rescue! The only drawbacks we had on our meal was that my husband's first cup of coffee came out of the kitchen cold, so we sent it back and it was quickly remedied. Also, I was really looking forward to trying the limoncello gelato for dessert. When our gelato came out, we each took one bite before realizing that it tasted nothing like lemon. Our server took it back to the kitchen, and then came back and stated that, according to the people in the kitchen, the gelato had not been made correctly, so it was very difficult to taste the lemon. Our server was gracious enough to offer us other alternatives, including the lemon sorbet, but we declined. We finished our meal with espresso, and we're very, very happy with the experience overall.
