We gave the new owners a chance, but they have big shoes to fill. We went there at least once a week dine in and ordered out at least once a week if not more. We had parties catered...We also bought more meals home after dining in. With the original owners, it was a warm, comfortable place where you didn't feel rushed. The service Gina provided was quick and professional. It saddens me that with the DiMeo name on the business that I have to rate this experience so low. I wish the family all the best and certainly hoped the new owners would keep things the same. I ordered the Puttanesca and the woman who was took the order had to ask twice what it was. I grow San Marzano tomatoes and make Puttanesca so I was more than disappointed when it came out and the chunky garlic wasn't to be found, the olives were far and few between, it did not have a salty taste from the anchovy but was instead VERY SWEET and mostly purée except for cherry tomatoes that still had skins on them making it all a horrible sweet texture. The salad was good, the bread knots good, but the main course was a 1 at best. The service was lacking and it certainly didn't feel like we were anything more than another dollar in their pocket. Have been coming here for the last few years once a week and we loved it when the old owners were there. We gave the new owners a chance and we won't be back. My son has always got the meatballs and loved them with the old owners. The new owners he wouldn't touch the meatballs they had more filler in them and he said they weren't the same. The pasta sauce on my linguine with the chicken parm wasn't homemade didn't have any taste of garlic or basil in it. Taste like it was poured out of a can and doctored up with seasoningWe did talk to the owner who just brushed it under the carpet. Never did the owner come out and ask if she could get something else or even refilled our drinks. We had to go up to the register to pay instead of them giving us a check. We tried Demeo on a recommendation from a friend. They are still a friend!! Fried calamari is must when a new place is tried. Delicious, not too much breading, tender and flavorful. It came with marinara sauce which was good as well, the ratio of body rings to tentacles was great. We also got a Basic pizza with pepperoni and onions. The pizza was good. The crust was not chewy nor was it extra crispy. A bit of a flop when you pick up a piece. Regardless, the pizza was very good as well. The next visit we will try one of the pasta dishes. read more

Not a bad pie. It puts you in mind of Bertucci's (without the tomato chunks); cook could be a minute longer, but the pie was solid and the crust was good. The stromboli was disappointing, it was soft, borderline soggy, and way too much cheese for the amount of meat. Okay, stopped in again as I was craving mussels. They were just as good as the last time. However, Gina convinced me to go with the chicken parm. It was tender, juicy, crispy without a hint of grease/oily. I also realized why I like their food. The sauce is more of an Italian pomodoro versus an American marinara (WHich I make an excellent one and why I don't eat Italian out often. Very fresh and delicious. I saved some room for dessert on another customers recommendation. I love carrot cake and that is what she recommended. Visiting a friend in Delaware. We decided to grab a quick bite. This was a place very close to my friend's home. She and her husband suggested this place and after reading reviews posted on Yelp we decided on pepperoni pizza and supreme stromboli. Excellent quality food. My husband thought he was ordering a steak special stromboli but this one had green peppers, sauce, cheese, ham, salami, mushrooms and onions. I hate mushrooms! After picking out the mushrooms and accepting that there was no steak, it was pretty good. The thin crusty pizza was perfect, just the right amount of chewy. Sauce was tasty and pepperoni was quality. Staff was friendly. We ordered for pick up so cannot speak to the service or dining in experience. If I lived locally, I would return. read more

And, what is up with the wait staff standing at the far end of two tables and having guests pass food instead of walking around serving individuals? Love this pizzeria! We moved from NY and had been looking for a new pizza place and Pizzeria Dimeo definitely has some amazing pizza. They have a $24 delivery minimum so we usually get garlic knots with it and those are delicious too! Over the phone service is always great too. read more

I've gone here quite a few times over the years. The pizza was priced with its taste "cheap". Now they charge $22 for a single pie with the same bland taste and cheap salty cheese. Last time I went here I asked for a large pepperoni with extra cheese and got regular cheese with skimpy pepperoni's but yet got charged $22 for a pie they clearly didn't properly make. It also didn't taste like it was worth the price they charged. Bland sauce with no seasoning, salty cheese and thin dough. Not even a little oregano or basil on it for flavor. Is this really Italian pizza? Doesn't taste it. Flavorless is more like it. I had also ordered their lasagna and I advise you don't. It's equally as bland but the meat they used is from a can. Can you imagine the nasty grainy taste of canned beef in lasagna? It was so disgusting that first bite. The moment I tasted it I scrapped it all off. I only could eat half the gross lasagna. This is not an authentic Italian place. Not a single person working in the kitchen is Italian. That explains a lot about the lack luster food. It was fine when they had cheap prices to match their cheap food but now they're charging real prices for real Italian restaurants food and their quality has not improved to justify their higher prices. Good independent restaurants are an issue South of the Canal. (Yeah, pack a lunch when you cross that terrifying body of water.) But this small Italian restaurant on the south side of Smyrna is quite good--and deceptively named. Yes, they have pizza and subs (both thin and Sicilian pizza) but they are a lot more than that--and a great place for an evening out for semi-casual dining. That is, sit-down but not dark or starchy-formal. A trattoria. Like a neighborhood place you'd enjoy eating out when you want to relax and have good conversation. My late husband and I always had one Italian place such as this we'd frequent (he was Italian): comfy, good food, pleasant to sit and chat to kick back after a week's hard work. This is exactly the kind of place we love. The calamari appetizer was how I like calamari: not over cooked, lightly battered, served with marinara. There were good appetizers to choose from: roasted peppers either with anchovy or prosciutto, calamari, bruschetta, or a bar pizza or mussels. These run between 8 and 11 bucks and will feed 2-3 average eaters. I did not see antipasto but I'll bet you, if you demanded it, the kitchen could make it up--they do have subs, so they have cold cuts. Entrees: There are calzones, pizza (thin or thick) but also pasta dishes. I had ravioli--the pasta tasted like the fresh frozen kind and the sauce was good (but I don't like baked cheese on mine, this is just me), companions had pasta puttanesca, chunky sauce full of capers, etc and one had eggplant parmesan, which was not oily and not undercooked, two problems you often find with eggplant. It was delicious. Homebaked desserts but we had to skip them. Entrees run 12-22 depending on if it's simple pasta or seafood. Salads btw were fresh and crisp and cold. You can get simpler fare, subs, pizza, either calzone OR stromboli and kids menu is the usual dull spag-meatball, chicken or fish fingers with fries or kiddy pizza but that's what kids want. Wine, beer didn't notice if there was a full bar. Wine about $5.50 a glass. Everything was fresh, the place is spotlessly clean. Service was good. Family atmosphere, not dark and romantic. It's between Smyrna and Dover, and not far from Middletown, so it's fairly convenient if you want to find a non-chain restaurant for some traditional Italian food or good pizza. They do have take-out and they will cater. read more

We passed this little restaurant on our way to Grotto Pizza and decided to turn around to visit this little shop instead. First of all, I loved that the dining area (which was quite charming) was away from the kitchen. This means that we didn't have to deal with any of the noise from the delivery aspect of the business. We ordered the Sicilian pizza. It was perfect! A thicker crust but crispy on the bottom from the stone oven. Perfect mix of sauce, dough and cheese. We got sausage, onion and green pepper but we would have been fine without toppings because the dough itself is pretty flavorful. Another important thing to point out is that our party consisted of a pizza lover and one that could take it or leave it. We both left pleasantly surprised and satisfied (and with leftovers from a single pizza). We had a very attentive and sweet server (Lauren, I believe) that deserves recognition as far as making our experience a 5 star visit. The pizza is too doughy. Went there a while ago. My husband ordered chicken parmigiana and asked for a side of gnocchi. The waitress checked with manager and said he!d have to order 2 entrees if he wanted gnocchi. He then said he'd pay an up charge but she said management wouldn't do it. Worst pizza and "garlic knots" I've seen. We ordered from here entirely based on the Yelp rating and now I question if I should trust that again! The pizza crust was overcooked, dry, flavorless and lacking density. In fact, it was the exact same consistency as the dinner rolls they try to pass off as garlic knots. They're not knots at all, but simply balls of dough (likely the crust itself) which lack flavor. I've had pizza from all across the country, even enjoyed the greatest pizza New York has to offer and the fact that they refer to this as pizza is disgraceful! read more

Pizza and wings where good. Service sucked!!! Ordered A thin pizza and a thick crust and told waitress 3 times that one was a thin crust and the other was thick square pan pizza. We ask to have wings brought out first so we could eat them before the pizza. So the wings come out and 1 min later the pizza. ( I guess you could say the wings where first) The pizzas came out as two thin crust. We asked if we could have what we ordered . As she reached to take back the one thin crust her pendent scraped acrosss the other pizza , thus having to take away one piece of the other pie. Very disappointing...food is mediocre not alot of flavor. Ordered the mussels 6 came out closed we asked for a discount because they were rather expensive. We were told that the owner notice and gave us extra. I find it hard to believe she seen this and did not remove the closed mussels. Why would they bring out the closed up mussels? I really find this hard to believe. I think we ended up with 9 descent mussels for $12.99. FYI we we're regular customers because there aren't a lot of choice in the area. I doubt we'll be back. The food here is generally fantastic. Pricey for the portions but again, generally really good. The biggest issue with this place is that no matter when we go, or where we sit, THERE ARE ALWAYS GNATS! Our most recent visit not only were the gnats attacking us and our food but flys were also buzzing around. Enough for us to definitely say we will no longer sit inside and dine here. No idea why the owners don't take care of this persistent issue. It's a shame, the pizza and caprese salad here are one of my favorites. Pizzeria Dimeo makes some of the best pizza there is in the state of Delaware. We love pizza and this is our go to place in Smyrna. We've never had a bad experience with take out or when we go in to sit in their cute little dining room. We eat pizza weekly but make our own most of the time. When we don't make our own, we order a couple of pizzas from here because they remind us of the pizzas we could get at the local place back in Syracuse, NY. Our favorite pizza is their Buffalo Chicken because it's so simple. It's just cheese and diced chicken that has been tossed in buffalo sauce. Blue cheese or ranch is available on the side which is a nice change a pace from most places who normally put it right on the pizza; something we don't like. We've never order entrees but we have had some of the sandwiches and they were also very good. The people who work there are always very friendly and make you feel like you're valued as a customer. There isn't much else to say about this place other than you need to go there and try it as soon as possible. read more
