Pizzaria Delphi is an unassuming, unapologetically simple little gem in Palmer, AK. I've done take-out a couple of times but today decided to sit down for a meal with my husband. Ordered mozzarella sticks, which arrived hot to the table and were perfectly crisp. The mozzarella stretched out like taffy. Yum yum. The red sauce tasted home made (?).....not cloyingly sweet, more on the savory side. The pepperoni pizza arrived piping hot and just how (in my opinion) a pizza pie should be made: loaded with mozzarella, topped with just-right amounts of thin pepperoni slices (crispy on the edges). The pie crust was airy and light, just a hint of sweet. Ended the meal by having a lovely conversation with the owner, Mike, who saw us sipping on Pepsis and promptly brought us over a sample of their signature, locally-made root beer.....made with real sassafras and HONEY. About an hour and a half later I received a call telling me it was ready for pickup. I reminded the girl that it was delivery and she said she was new and apologized. No big deal...we all make mistakes. When the order got here the pizzas were barely warm and the antipasto salad was loaded with brown lettuce. We ate it anyway. Today while eating the rest of the order and looking at this sad, brown salad I felt like I needed to talk to management. I could not have been any nicer or more understanding but when the manager made a comment about the "California liberal fruit-cups" (something to do with how his produce is supplied) I told him that not only did he serve us a horrible meal but he insulted a customer. It's hard to find a classic Pizzaria in Alaska. Remeber the pizza joints with checkered table cloths, pepper and cheese shakers, and maybe an arcade game or two. I would just like to start by saying I've been to pizza restaurants in all 50 states! And this is by far is my favorite! Not only is the staff very helpful and friendly! But they treat you like part of the family! It's not every day you get to have a great conversation with the owner and he treats you with the upmost respect! I ordered the Greek spaghetti which says comes with chicken AND feta cheese for $20.95. I was charged $27.95. I went back in and told him that I was charged wrong and he told me that because I ordered chicken with it. It's a $5.50 extra fee. I figured OK that makes sense so I went home. I got home and looked at the menu that the girl gave me and it says chicken and feta cheese 2095. I seldom give bad reviews especially when it's a local business and the staff are friendly. I have tried this place a couple times and the food is mediocre at best. This time we had seafood fettuccine and an order of fish and chips. For starters we had some fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were good but things went downhill after that. The fish and chips were average in terms of flavor but the thin chunks of fish left a lot to be desired. The Alfredo sauce on the fettuccine was bland with a handful of shrimp and tiny scallops scattered throughout. I wish the dishes popped a bit with flavor but it was like I was eating at a hospital. The loaded baked potato soup was a bit watery and lacked much flavor. Service was solid but the food wasn't. This is the best pizza hands down! We love the "BEST" pizza that has garlic butter instead of traditional red sauce. The atmosphere is casual yet on occasion there is a fabulous classily trained pianist that serenades and it's surprisingly romantic! The staff is so incredibly friendly and graciously welcoming it feels like we've gone to a friends for dinner. Prices are more than fair and they deliver all over now that there's two locations so don't hesitate to give them a try I promise you won't be disappointed! Excellent selection of Arkose brews. Arkose is a local brewery in the area with a some distribution in the local stores. The list here had several I had seen in the store. Good cheesy bread. Large portion. Two cups of marinara for dipping. Good pizza. Nothing crazy. I was satisfied. Between the cheesy bread and large pizza, two people were easily full with half a pizza as leftovers. Booths were comfortable. The restaurant is set up in a way that allows there to be a split amongst patrons throughout the restaurant. It meant we didn't feel like people were eating right next to us. Last week I grabbed pizza with my nieces before my flight back to Arizona. I arrived at the airport without my passport and I knew I had lost it and had no idea where! Yes, they have lots of pizza, but also burgers, hot sandwiches, seafood & steaks, salads, and pretty good Italian fare. They get a star . Quality - I have to say, many restaurants with a menu as diverse as Pizzaria Delphi tend to rely on canned sauces, prefrozen portions. Bagged lettuce, etc. and while this place makes use of some premade items, the general quality of the food is much higher than most peer establishments. They get a star . Value - So, value is a subjective criterion so let's call it like this: how much more or less would you pay for a comparatively similar meal at, say the Olive Garden, or a Romano's, etc. My experience has been that you pay more and get less elsewhere. They get a star . Service - Owner, John, makes it a point to come through the dining room to say hi to his customers. I like to see that because it shows he cares and he has confidence in his establishment. The rest of the waitstaff is equally considerate and friendly. They get a star . The food is typically pretty good here, but the customer service in this family restaurant is frequently quite poor. They've permanently lost our business due to poor signage and communication about their limited service for their special Valentine's dinner last night. It'll be interesting to see if they make any changes to this event next year, because the place was dead at 7:30 last night. They were the only restaurant in the valley that limited service to 'adults only' from 4:00 to closing time last night. Came in specifically for the greek bread with a friend who lives in Palmer and swears by the greek bread appetizer. We had beers and three orders of the greek bread. We were not disappointed. I'm excited to try to replicate this stuff at home in Idaho. The Greek bread is like a small calzone with feta and mozzarella inside, and possibly some ricotta. The pasta dishes are amazing. My kids love the chicken Alfredo. We usually get takeout so we don't go inside and sit down for service but they're always prompt and everything is always ready and correct when I get there to pick it up. Calzones are delish! I highly recommend "Kiki's" calzone with mozzarella, feta, canadian bacon, regular bacon, and pineapple inside. Very good. Crust was lightly crisped on top and seasoned well with assorted spices & GARLIC! YUM! No longer closed on Mondays. Still need to update the interior, but they did get new chairs in the last 6 months or so. First time ordering from here. I ordered the Delphi special pats, and Delphi pizza special. With the pasta special I received a salad or soup. I asked what soup was told it was beef. I choses beef. When I opened my pasta it looked great. Smelled good. As I picked up first bite the sauce was watery. Then the ham was really chopped up fine lunch meat. It was rubbery and gross.
