This is my new favorite pizza in the city. I am officially addicted. I love the occasional hit of salt you get on the crust from time to time that makes you go "damn, this is soooo good!" I am not in agreement with the negative review about the noise and kids running around. Most restaurants are noisy in SF, esp pizza places. If you don't enjoy eating with kids, go late. The pizza is great, I'd say in the top 5 for San Francisco. They have nice ingredients, their recipe for the dough is good and has a nice crisp finish, cooked quickly at 666 degrees. The space could be better. While I like the bench seating, the ceilings are high which creates an echo chamber. Pizzahacker is my go-to for going-out-for-pizza. I highly recommend dinning in, if only for the high ceilings and chalk wall. (I've never ordered takeout from here.) Bad experience here last night. Starts with a disorganized system to wait for a table which leaves people awkwardly clustered by the door. Ordered two pizzas, a salad and a bottle of wine. Gal comes back and says they're out of Pinot Noir. Ordered the other red and she says "We're out of that too." How can you be out of all your red wine? It's a non-perishable. Anyway, since we were sitting right in front of the drafty door and could drink a nice glass of wine with our pizza cozier at home we asked her to box it to go. More disappointment when we get home and find that the arugula pizza, called the Rocket Man, had NO f**ckn arugula on it (or chile or lemon as posted). Just crust/cheese and a rubber egg (which admittedly could be due to the transport time). The "top-shelf" tomato sauce on the Margherita was meh and while a more naked salad could have had potential it was ruined by overdressing with poppyseed yukkiness. And it's their only dressing option. They do not have the act anywhere near together and the food isn't good enough to make up for that. I wish that I could give 0 stars. This review is solely based on the manager that I spoke to who was incredibly rude to me. I am new to the neighborhood and tied to place an order. All I wanted was one pizza and it was not even for delivery. It was for pick up. I was told they could not take my order at all - period. I was so excited to try this place even explaining to the manager that I just purchased a home one block away and was stoked to try our local pizza joint- which he sarcastically said "Well good for you congratulations -we can't take your order" I tried to reason with him asking if he could have my order ready in an hour (more than standard for a pizza joint). He declined my reasoning and continued to be incredibly cocky and rude. I was feeling such a sense of community in this neighborhood especially after seeing how we came together with the horrific fire that occurred last weekend. Ate there last night and brought a guest who just moved from the east coast. We barely talked as we were both shoveling this glorious pizza in our mouth..but she kept saying (with a full mouth) "This pizza is SO FUCKING GOOD...SO FUCKING GOOD" And so fucking good it is. I think some people who have said something about burnt crust are tripping or don't really appreciate a good Neapolitan style pizza. Crispy but chewy at the same time Sourdough thin crust and hand stretched Mozzarella? Yes please. I could drink their sauce. Really- the classic and "top-shelf" margaritas could not be any more perfect in their delicious simplicity. But they have interesting other options as well and all equally good. It's really no nonsense, casual atmosphere and I love that you can see them cooking the pizza from your seat while sharing a half carafe of wine at one of the big picnic style tables. They give you menus but who needs 'em when they've got the goods displayed on the huge chalkboard wall. Finally - normally I wouldn't even mention salad, but their 2 options are great and I love that you can get a family style bowl. We shared the Intermezzo salad, and it is actually worth mentioning. My guest absolutely loved it- loaded with so many fresh veggies, and large white beans and chickpeas topped off with a yummy dressing. I actually ate a ton of it when I would normally save all my appetite for the pizza. Anyway this place rules. I would choose this place over Beretta or Delfina any day of the week. read more

I've only been once, but PizzaHacker is already one of my favorite pizza places in the city (it also helps that it's in my 'hood). We went there on a Wednesday night and got a seat immediately. We didn't know how big the pizza was, so my wife and I ordered two pizzas. We had one Yo Vinny (sausage, pickled hot peppers, onions, tomato sauce) and one Rocket Man (arugula, garlic, mozzarella, lemon, no sauce, egg on top), and both were delicious. I could've used a little bit more sausage on the Yo Vinny, but the peppers had a great kick, and the tomato sauce had a great tangy flavor to it. The Rocket Man had plenty of arugula on it -- I hate when pizza places only put a little bit of arugula on their pizzas -- and the arugula had a nice lemony kick from the dressing. We didn't finish the pizzas, but what really impressed me was how well the Yo Vinny pizza stood up the next day when I re-heated it for breakfast (I didn't think the arugula would keep well). That'll keep me going back, and that'll keep me ordering too much pizza every time so I can have more leftovers too. Great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I would give pizza hacker like a 4.4 but not quite a 5 star. The special margarita pizza was incredible. They home make their mozzarella and it comes out soooo well on that pizza. We also got a meat/sausage pizza but that pizza wasn't as amazing which brings this place down to a 4. I still think it's better than Delfina/Little Star/Golden Boy but not quite 5 star pizza. read more

I have never eaten better pizza in my life. The house-made sourdough crust is to die for and the tomato sauce, cheese and sausage are all made in house as well. "Rocket Man" pizza comes with a cage-free non GMO egg cooked on top, and all of the ingratiates were SO fresh. The lovely bartender also told me all their beers and wines are local.
