Piz'za-za from the outside
Jeff H.

I'm a bit conflicted as to what to write for this review. Having gone for dinner with three other people, I ordered two (yes two) pizzas to try. (I self justified this indulgence by claiming one as an appetizer). Unfortunately, for my taste buds, and for what I want out a pizza that I'm actually paying for, the pizzas just didn't do anything for me at all. The two I ordered were the Margherita and the Toscane. Using the Margherita as an example, what unimpressed me the most probably was the dried oregeno flakes that were used on the pizza. I much prefer the traditional basil and even better yet, real basil on a Margherita pizza (ala Tennesse Willems in Ottawa). The sauce and dough were also unsatisfying. Essentially, it felt like something I could make at home hence my comment about wanting more out of a pizza that I'm actually paying for. My second pizza didn't do anything to improve my impressions so for me, and at least with regards to their pizzas, I would not return. On the flip side, and why I say I'm a bit conflicted, is that the three others I ate with quite enjoyed their pizzas. Like with all restaurants what could be good for one doesn't necessarily mean it will be good for another. What you like also depends on what you are used to and for me personally, I'm sort of fed up with the typical pizza joints as I prefer pizzas with ingredients that can stand on their own (i.e. a really good crust, a sauce that you could eat on its own, and toppings that just exude flavour). No matter which way you look at it, I don't think these pizzas do that but, again, maybe that is just me. PRICE In terms of price, well, the pizzas are not that expensive. On the flip side, they are also not large either meaning, even with a light appetite, you will probably want to order an appetizer as well. SERVICE While I can easily critique the pizzas I had, one thing I can't critique is the service. For the type of restaurant this is (i.e. relaxed, not fancy), our waitress was outstanding. Very professional, engaging and attentive. AMBIENCE The place has a cozy (bit cramped) atmosphere so, if you are say four people, you will probably be sharing a table normally good for two. RESERVATIONS Due to the size of the restaurant (not small but not large), you will probably want to make a reservation or show up early to ensure you get a table. - So, all in all a places with pluses (service) and minuses (food - for me at least). If it were just me, I would give them 2 stars for 'Meh', but I'm adding an extra star based on the others I ate with.

pizza with ham, green onion, and green olives

It was nice and cozy inside. The server was very friendly. I ordered French onion soup and pizza with ham and green olives. I'd say the food was great. I would have liked less crunch crust for the pizza, but I guess I'm more used to North American pizzas as opposed to thin crust pizza.

This place seems to have gotten worse over the years. The menus haven't changed but the food seems less fresh somehow.

I've been meaning to try this place for soo long and I finally did! And I wish I had tried it…read moresooner. It might actually be one of my favourite pizzas in the city! The restaurant is cuter inside than I thought. There are some window seats for people-watching on bank st. There are also some hanging lights by the windows. The pizza crust has the perfect crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside texture. It's so good it doesn't even need any dip. I tried both the nerd pizza and the mushroom pizza. The nerd pizza had pickled onions, black pepper molasses bacon, cheese and chili Basil honey. I loved the tangy pickled onions, with the salty-sweet bacon, and the spicy honey. The combination was just perfection. I could use a little more chili though! The mushroom pizza was a white pizza with portobello mushrooms, parm, and truffle oil. The salty parm and the meaty portebello mushrooms were a good combo, but I didn't really taste any truffle oil. I felt like this pizza was good but missing a little something to take it to the next level. Overall, the food was delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced (beer, local kombucha). However, the service was mediocre. I think they only had one or two servers working the entire area on Friday night.

Ordered 2 of their rotating menu pizzas tonight and was not disappointed. I'm not the type to…read moredeviate from my usual order once I find something I like, but I'm glad I did. The pizzas were light, airy and packed a lot of flavour into each bite. Super full now and I regret nothing
