    Hamburger,
    Scott L.

Had my reasons to stop going here a year or so back , today we got take out. Hamburgers use to be one of the best in town. Now it's all bun and a thin piece of meat ( hopefully) it's meat. Nothing even close to what they had. So here where are once again. Also had a fish dinner in the mix and father-in-law said it was all breading and didn't taste like fish,,,if your looking for pizza or wings you may be good to go, outside of that , roll the dice.

I love pizza king calzones, I judge all others by them and so far no one has come close. It was years before I tried a pizza and discovered that they were just as good. Any time I'm in the area I have to eat here.

A build-your-own pizza with pepperoni, green pepper, bacon, and black olives.

One thing to keep in mind the pizza is always buy one get one free, which is kind of weird to me because that just means the cost is the cost for two pizzas.

Because the last one did not go well either. Even accounting for the slower life we are pursuing in our retirement community of choice, we don't have one hour and four minutes to wait on a pizza. Or 54 minutes to wait on a simple spaghetti and meatballs. Or seven minutes standing at the front desk with no one coming by to see you at the "please wait to be seated" podium. I'm older now, I don't have that kind of time to waste. The food was "OK". The spaghetti and meatballs (substituted sausage, maybe this required a trip to Italy") was lukewarm. It tasted OK. My pizza was basically loose and drippy in the center. Not from cheese, from being poorly cooked. Again, there was nothing special about the taste. Lastly, I had to send the first pizza serving tray back to be cleaned. I don't know if it's too little staff, too little caring, too little organization, too little training. It all adds up to a memorable experience for the wrong reasons. It is a very nice place when it comes to decor and such. Even a nice big lighted Christmas display for folks to use as a photo backdrop. Hopefully the ownership will take this review to heart and not blame it on "being too busy" (that sure wasn't the case" or "fussy clientele". It sure wasn't that either.

The service was excellent, so let's start there. The interior is part of an older building that has been partially renovated. Clean and all the tables get covered with butcher paper and, when combined with crayons, offers fun for everyone. Finally we get to why people go to restaurants / the food. We started with the Calamari, which was perfectly fried, not greasy at all, and served with a tasty marinara, but we would prefer lemon. The white pizza was excellent also, we added some Italian sausage and that put the final touch on the pizza. The Greek salad was fair, but it didn't really roll our socks down, and the spaghetti with meatballs also fell a little short for us - the sauce had great tomato flavour, but it lacked the herbiness (we'd even have been ok with some spicy heat) that you'd expect from a good sauce. They have daily specials that could appeal to some, and they have a rather eclectic menu, right down to fish and chips. We don't go through S. Pittsburgh very often, but we might be back. They also have a location in Chattanooga.

Walking in feels less like entering a restaurant and more like being invited over by the Italian neighbor who cooks too much food and doesn't mind if you stay awhile. Cozy rooms, a relaxed buzz of conversation, and a staff that is genuinely friendly and helpful. I went with the build your own pasta. Linguine, bolognese, and meatballs. The waitress suggested getting it baked, which sounded like the culinary equivalent of "trust me on this," so I did. Good call. It came out bubbling, cheesy, and comforting in that perfect pasta way. The bolognese was good but a little polite. It could have used a little more pop. The meatballs, though, clearly had Italian sausage in the mix and they sang. Big flavor and a nice texture. Then dessert showed up. The Italian cake quietly stole the entire meal. Light but firm cake, a beautiful nutty flavor, and just the right amount of crème filling holding it together. One bite in and it was obvious. I came for the pasta. The cake stole the whole show. Quick tip. Be patient when hunting for parking. You might have to park across the bridge and walk a bit. Honestly that walk will burn about 25 of the calories you are about to put right back on. Four stars. Go for the pasta, enjoy the charm, and absolutely do not skip the cake. It's worth the walk.

2 Star -- My Lawyer Friend and I Are Considering This a Chargeable Offense…read moreIn the legal world, there's a concept called "misrepresentation." My attorney dining companion will tell you it applies here. I've eaten lasagna on three continents. I've never once feared it. Until now. What arrived at our table was, generously speaking, a flat pancake wearing a cheese disguise -- topped with shredded beef that seemed just as confused about its life choices as the chef who plated it. Green? Green. I didn't order a lawn clipping casserole. I ordered lasagna -- the cornerstone dish, the anchor of any Italian menu worth its salt (of which this dish also needed more). Lasagna is not a canvas for creativity. It is a covenant. A sacred agreement between a restaurant and its guests that says: we know what we're doing here. This dish broke that covenant, shredded it, and apparently used it as a garnish. My recommendation? Locate the nearest Italian grandmother. Apologize to her. Take notes. Start over.

We went on a Monday night and it was pretty crowded but we were seated quickly. They give each table a big plate of bread with butter, which was delicious and a nice treat. I ordered the arancini to start with. I love arancini, and so many restaurants in Atlanta put meat in them. These were SO good, maybe my favorite arancini that I've had recently. Good ratio of risotto to cheese and nice and crispy. The sauce that came with them was really good too. I wish you got more for the cost, but it was comparable to every restaurant. I ordered the Pomodoro al Vegetariana but subbed penne for the spaghetti (just not a fan lol). The pasta was really good and perfectly cooked. The sauce was maybe a little too garlicky? There was a good ratio of pasta to veggies. I don't like mushrooms but they blended in enough that I could eat them. My gf got the Penne Toscana because she's allergic to garlic, so this was one of the few things she could eat. (Side note, one of the other local Italian restaurants we called basically said there was nothing she'd be able to eat there.) Some of the artichoke pieces were really chewy and the dish was very oily, otherwise she enjoyed it. The inside is very nice, cozy and not stuffy. Our waitress was super sweet.
