This Pizza King will forever shatter your world when it comes to Pizza King pizzas. Your memories of how they taste will be overwritten with Avon Pizza King's mediocre, burnt and half-made atrocities. If the Pizza King was a real guy I would imagine that he might have the staff executed in a pizza prison courtyard of sorts. Perhaps it would be beneficial to the Pizza Public of the Pizza Kingdom to have the Avon Pizza King made into a public example though. You'd definitely find me watching something like that in the front row! This location's interior is a sad representation of what it once was. The bottoms of the booth tables are riddled with gum, the televisions are missing television parts, the train backdrops haven't been updated since the late 80's and the placeholders where the Sega Genesis controllers used to reside are just sad. That's kind of alright about that last one though. You either got Sonic or got dicked with something like Pagemaster as a kid and that was just the kind of gamble that no one should have to take. Just stay away from this Pizza King and go to a different one. Pizza Kings are usually always awesome but Avon Pizza King has lost its way. Good alternative train Pizza Kings are the Franklin and Bluff Road ones. You can still play video games at your booth in the Franklin one and drink cheap beer at the same time. read more

This place used to be a hot spot ten years ago. They have great thin-crust pizza, and it's nice to be entertained with a small tv at your booth. Don't forget the quarters! Also, very unique in that you can order at your booth, and the drinks are delivered a train. The two items I remember consistently getting when I was a child and all the way up until I graduated from high school was the pepperoni pizza and side of nachos. The Avon Pizza King makes me sad...but sadly it's one of the few remaining ones in the area. The pizza is the same as it has always been, but taking a look around the location makes you terrified to eat there. Old, dated, run-down. Faded back-drops in the booths where the train runs through. Even the train is dirty. Dirt & dust EVERYWHERE (seriously, the dust bunnies are about to stage a revolt). Glimpses into the kitchen when picking up your pizza make you terrified about the actual cleanliness of the food prep areas. Bored, under-supervised teenagers chatting with their "probably an adult but doesn't act like it" manager... it's rough. I occasionally get cravings for Pizza King-style pizza, but I rarely fulfill them. Mainly, because this place is a TRAINWRECK (which is comical, due to the train theme). I really wish the owners would put some time, money & attention into this location. This place is nostalgic because I used to eat there with my family as a kid. But nothing has changed since I was a kid...which seemingly is due to neglect by the business owners. Our last visit, is literally our last visit. The only way to describe this place is sad. When I was a kid I would beg to go here but now it's just a dump. Everything is dirty to the point it's disgusting. The booth I'm sitting in right now has a piece torn off and the wood exposed. The other side appears as though a foot went through it. There are fruit flies attacking my drink as I type this. The pizza is so salty it is almost inedible. The only saving grace is the breadsticks are still just like I remember them. Man, what happened to his place? Pizza King in Avon was a major fixture of my youth, mainly thanks to the unique restaurant design. The booths are set up like the booths in a train, complete with TVs and video games. The coup de grâce is the toy train that brings you your drinks. The pizza was always amazing too. It's thin crust with crumbled sausage or pepperoni. It's very salty and addicting, chances are you'll eat half a pizza and not even be aware of it. I probably hadn't been here in 15 years, but my fiancee insisted we go after I told her how much I loved the place when I was younger. The place just isn't very well kept nowadays. The seat cushions are worn out and ratty. The TVs are a wreck and the video games in the booths were taken out. The train still delivers your drinks but the "scenic backdrops" are faded or falling apart. It was also really dark in there for some reason. Would it have killed them to turn on the lights? The worst thing is that everything, from the table to the seats was sticky from years of spilled soft drinks. So, the dining room was pretty gross,but the pizza is still great right? Well, kinda. Most notably, our pizza had a giant puddle of grease in the middle of it. It tasted fine, but it wasn't as high quality as I remember it. Buzz's Pizza in Plainfield has a very similar recipe but is of much higher quality. I hate to be hard on this place, but it really isn't what it used to be. It's in need of a major renovation. In all honestly, I'd love to bring my own kids here someday, but it's hard for me to recommend it in it's current state. Let's hope Pizza King Avon gets it's act together by then. read more

This place has really gone to the crapper. We came because my son loves the train, but it still wasn't worth it. The place is run down, dirty, and disgusting. I remember when this location used to always be packed and the food was good, now you get pizzas covered in grease, salt, and char. It's a shame this place has gone his direction. Also it was laughable how you pick your pizza up at the window and six inches from the window is the soda machine, they won't give you a refill because "it's not hygienic, to allow cups back into the kitchen," yet they have people walking around back there in basketball jerseys and shorts. My friends and I have been coming to this Pizza King for over 30 years. It's gone through some good times and some bad times. I was very happy to see the inside has been remodeled. Met the new ownership and they are investing in updating and remodeling the inside so that it's a nice place to eat again. The pizza is the same recipe that i remember from 30 years ago. This place used to be a cash cow but now is an example of how poor management/ownership can ruin a once wonderful and iconic restaurant by not reinvesting back in to their business. The Pizza King in Avon was a must-go-to place to have a fun dining experience with your family, after school games and birthday party location. However, over years of neglect and low standards it is now a dirty and broken down mess. Every table is dirty when we go in now, half of the ancient tv monitors and games don't work and everything you touch is sticky or needs replaced. This Pizza King is in severe need of a remodel and new management for allowing it to reach this level of failure. Just going to be up front - we go to pizza king in Avon a LOT & the service is 100% hit or miss. We go often simply because our 4 year old loves his drink being delivered by a train & the older kids grew up eating the pizza. As the mom & dad we are all the little things that make it a subpar establishment. Last night, for example, we walked in to 3 other families lined up waiting for tables. It depends on how busy they are wether you seat yourself or wait to be seated. When I noticed though that these families were looking around a bit I asked if anyone had been out to help them or take names etc. when they said no I calmly walked up to the counter around the corner and asked if someone was coming out. The young lady who greeted me informed me it was currently seat yourself - so I let her know the sign was incorrect and she sent someone out to fix it. We've also had nights where I sat in a booth for 20-30 mins without them taking our order to find out they "stopped taking orders because they were busy". Like I said, we will be back because our kids like it but as the mom it's too expensive for the usually not so great service. KEEP IN MIND: this is only a review of the Avon location. read more

You walk into a dirty restaurant to find a sign that says "seat yourself", no employees in sight. Everything is falling apart--the place is in desperate need of updating. There's food and trash all over the floors. The booths are dirty and sticky. You sit down, no one greets you, you can hear employees cussing & carrying on in the kitchen. Instead of having someone come to your table to take your order, you have to use an obnoxious speaker box. The person on the other end sounds bothered that you're ordering food. Then when your food is ready, they can't walk the 10 steps from the kitchen to your table--they call you out of your booth to come get it yourself. I went into pizza king with my family today. We were told by staff to go to the closed section due to no tables being available in the other sections. The "manager Mitchell" came over and was very rude telling us to move and we needed to wait. We told he staff told us to sit here. He got even more rude with his arms behind is back rolling his eyes telling us to move and wait. He had no idea who told us to sit in the area but we had to leave. Then he walked behind a door closing it roughly. I said can you come back. He did and i said your staff told us to sit here so can you please get in check with them before you come back having an attitude with people. He rolled his eyes and walked back shutting the door. This was the worst i have ever dealt with since i have been coming here in the 90's. I said i would like to speak with gm or i will be speaking with the owner. He slammed the door while saying good luck. This child does not need to be a manager at all. Please beware - not all Pizza King's are created equal. I'm always skeptical of trying a new PK as I grew up with one of the best (Thank you Lunn's in Berne, IN)!!! However, I had heard enough stories about the train, that I had to check this out. Well, the train was the only good part of the meal as it was cute and entertained our friends young child while we were there (which was a while as it took forever to get our food). We arrived and the sign said to seat yourself. We did as soon as we found someone to clean a table for us. Don't be thinking that you are going to get waited on here. This is a glorified take-out restaurant with seats. They do have an intercom system to talk to the kitchen to order, etc., but there is not instructions at the table or in the menu to reveal this to first-timers. The drinks do come by way of the train the first time, but if you want refills, you're on your own. And they only have booths so if you are in the inside at a booth of 6 like we were, you're constantly having to bother others to get anything. Since I was 15, I have always ordered my PK pizza with extra BBQ sauce. I knew the second that I got up to go get my own pizza and saw it, that the pizza did not have near enough sauce and was severely undercooked. The cheese on top wasn't even melted! However, I took it back and tried a bite first. I was right, barely any sauce even though, I had ordered and PAID for extra. I went back to the kitchen and they apologized and gave me a small container of sauce. However, nothing was going to help this pizza. Let me start by saying that I love salt, probably a little too much. Salty fries, chips, pretzels, popcorn, snacks. If there's not enough salt, it's no good and I won't eat it. I have never in my 40+ years, ever had a salty pizza. Well, last night was another first for me. I could not believe how incredibly salty this pizza was. It was atrocious and there was no way to get rid of it. I felt sick when we were leaving it was so bad. I don't even know that I will attempt the left overs. I may just throw them out and if you knew me, that's huge!! Anyway, please stick to your other favorite pizza joints as this one will not compare. I will not return for any reason. EXTREMELY RUDE, AGGRESSIVE STAFF. We attempted to dine at this location on 12/7/2018 at my four year olds request. We took a seat in a quiet area of the restaurant, while my husband went to order. During that time, I was approached by a minor employee. His stance was aggressive, and he spoke in a very confrontational manner, telling me "you need to move, this section is closed". I began to explain to him that there had been no indication upon our entry and that I was not interested in sitting in the other sections, as they were crowded and loud. He took a step closer to me, balled up his fists and said "it's a restaurant, you have no choice, move." I asked him to bring out his manager (Jason),who didnt apologize for the employee's behavior, and began explaining that, "he's a minor, and I cant keep him late to clean this section". I am mystified as to why it didnt occur to him that someone else could clean our table(like him?!). I didnt point that out because it was clear to me by that point that the manager supported the abominable way we were treated and that he was not interested in our business. My family has been dining in this restaurant regularly for many years and have always have exceptional service, delicious food, and an incredible experience. The management is friendly and really put their hearts into the building. We are thankful to have this as an option (our favorite option) when looking for a place to dine and will continue eating there as long as their doors are open. read more

Oh man, what can I say about a Pizza King. Actually, this isn't the king's fault - I've been to better Pizza Kings. A lot better, actually. This one is in clear need of some upgrades. The inside is awkwardly laid out and seem pretty old and busted. There's a train that brings your drinks... so that's probably fun if you're a child. Which I am not. The pizza isn't even very good. I'm pretty tolerant and forgiving, especially when it comes to pizza, but these guys barely tipped their hats to over-seasoned as they rode right on by to salty. I understand that some people probably feel an affinity to this store just the way it is because of fond childhood memories and whatnot, but I don't have those to offset what was a pretty unimpressive experience. First I would like to mention that I have been to a couple other Pizza King restaurants so this review is only for this location. I came into Pizza King on my lunch break. The first thing I noticed was a certain smell in the building that only comes with age and lack of hygiene. I was confused as to how to order and for anyone who has never eaten at a Pizza King before I feel like some general guidelines about the place would do a lot of good. The novelty of having a train deliver your drinks to your table is awesome but the enclosure and everything around it is embarrassingly dirty and needs attention. The decor is dated and falling apart all around. Including the old school tube tv's you have to feed quarter into. The food was pretty decent. It is what it is and nothing worth going out of tour way for. I also thought it was a bit odd that you have to go to a window and pay for your food when it was ready. Even other Pizza King restaurants have a server bring your food once you've ordered it. Here you have to go to a window and get it yourself. Fix the decor and offer some service and this place could be really neat! read more
