Before coming in, I had been watching Rango--a movie that definitely set a higher bar for entertainment than this DQ visit. For those unfamiliar Rango is a 2011 animated Western comedy directed by Gore Verbinski and features Johnny Depp as the voice of the main character, a theatrical pet chameleon who accidentally finds himself in a rough desert town called Dirt. Pretending to be a brave gunslinger, Rango is appointed sheriff and soon becomes involved in uncovering a mysterious plot about the town's missing water supply. The film parodies classic Westerns while blending humor, action, and a unique visual style. It was released by Paramount Pictures and produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Verbinski's production company, Blind Wink. Notably, Rango was the first animated film created by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), the visual effects company behind Star Wars. The film received widespread acclaim and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2012, praised for its storytelling, voice acting, and imaginative animation.
