The restaurant was immaculately clean, my drink was never empty, and my waitress was informative, funny, friendly, and simply great at her job. And the food was beyond great! But for me, this visit was about much more than just a good meal. I used to come here more than 30 years ago with my sister. She and my brother-in-law are both gone now, and I wanted to come back and revisit a place that held some wonderful memories for me. I had the opportunity to meet the owner, and to my surprise, he remembered my sister and brother-in-law. He shared some wonderful things about them, and that made walking through the door worth more to me than I can really put into words. I'm extremely glad I stopped. They serve great traditional American food as well as absolutely amazing Mexican food. The service, cleanliness, food, and genuine small-town hospitality made this a very special experience. If you're passing through Delta, Colorado, I highly, highly recommend stopping at C&J Cafe. There is parking out front and plenty of additional parking in the back. Some restaurants give you a great meal. Every once in a while, you find one that gives you a great meal and brings back a few wonderful memories at the same time. C&J Cafe did exactly that for me. I really had no idea how many people would be attending, due to it being an open invitation given at the funeral, or an exact time, due to not knowing exact length of service. I contacted Zack's BBQ and spoke to the new owner, Scott. From my first conversation, Scott took the planning into his hands presenting me several options for consideration. The planning by Scott was exceptional. He put together an incremental plan so as when a certain volume of guest would arrive they would provide another block of meals. This provided the ability to provide outstanding meals while keeping the cost at the most economically beneficial level to both myself and the business. The service of the food was at the same level as in any fine restaurant even though we were out in the pavilion. The food was brought out incrementally so it was always fresh and at the correct temperature. With the weather forecast working in our favor, we opted to have the get together in his pavilion area. The setting was absolutely perfect for the get together. There were some tables in the shade on the pavilion and some out in the sun. The pavilion is situated right at the edge of a large nicely mowed grass area which butts up against the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The setting was absolutely beautiful! The food was served buffet style and was excellent. We had ribs, brisket, pulled pork sandwiches, cowboy beans, potato salad and drinks. It was absolutely AMAZING! All the guests loved the food and made so many comments to both the owner and I about it. If you are planning to have food catered anywhere within Zack's service area, or looking for somewhere to have a get together, I couldn't give any business a higher recommendation. This business made my planning during a difficult time very easy and everything about the event was perfect. We felt the service, food quality and pricing were truly beyond our expectations! 5

The staff are equally kind and happy to get to know you. And the food! It's difficult to choose what to order, because each dish is better than the last. I adore the pulled pork and brisket the most (with mac and cheese as my go-to side). The potato salad is also delicious, and is not of the vinegar variety. But, as a dessert lover, I can't get over the pies. We usually eat one there, then pack a few into a cooler for the drive home. They are made on-site and are some of the best pies I have ever eaten. This place has gone seriously downhill since the previous GM left. Apparently it was not an…read moreamicable separation, as I inquired about him during one visit and was told very curtly, "He's no longer with us and I can't answer any questions. If you want to know why you'll have to call him yourself." I don't know how I'd do that, we weren't friends, he just seemed like a good guy and effective manager. Anyhow, there's a young guy there now (who gave me that answer) and I can only assume he is the GM... The place seems like chaos now. The first visit that I noticed this new kid, the pizzas were all cut very poorly and not all the way through, plus the topping on the sausage pizza were entirely in the middle, there was a good 3" all the way around the outside with no toppings. Stuff happens, I didn't think much of it. Second time, a couple weeks later. Same thing. Oddly, the sausage pizza only. We get 5-7 pizzas each time and only 1 sausage. Very strange that it would be the only one with wacky topping distribution. The cutting was bad on all of them though, only partially cut through and all different size pieces. I could deal with that but they are also not nearly as friendly. It is clearly the typical "I have to act like I'm nice but I actually hate you" attitude of fast-food rather than genuine friendly people. Too bad, this is (was) our go-to place for decently priced, quick, reasonably tasty pizza.
