The pizza here is consistently fantastic, which is why we continue to come back. Unfortunately, the…read moreservice timing has become a recurring frustration for us. On several visits, we have specifically requested that our garlic cheese bread and salad arrive before the pizza so we can actually enjoy the appetizer and salad course first. Tonight, we again had a very clear conversation about this request, yet everything arrived in the exact opposite order. What was most frustrating was being told that "the pizza comes out when the pizza comes out," as though there is no ability for the front staff and kitchen to coordinate timing. In an open-concept restaurant where the order staff and kitchen are working side by side, it seems like simple communication could easily solve this issue. We truly enjoy the food and want this restaurant to succeed, but proper pacing of a meal is part of good dining service. Appetizers and salads should enhance the experience -- not arrive simultaneously with or after the main course. We hope management will take this constructively because the food deserves service that matches its quality

They used to have Spicy Thai chili but for some reason switched to just "Sweet chili" which isn't as good to be honest but that's just my opinion. It's an outdoor set up with a tiny pizza kitchen set up. For the winter they set up a heated shelter area with a huge projection TV. The pizza isn't horrible and they do use Grande cheese. They do a more Neapolitan style pizza with small specialty ovens that cook around 840 degrees they told me.I had the Italiano. The pepperoni they chose to use seems to work with the smaller 14" pies they are serving. I didn't taste garlic or the sausage. The sauce was good. If you are looking for an airy dough with a crisp you won't find that here. This is more like the pizzas you see people cutting with scissors. Probably needs fresh basil to round out the flavor for this style. Great people, probably an ok pizza choice for most people.

I liked it but I didn't have much ranch and the slices I got hardly had chicken. I hear eating in the restaurant is better because they'll give you more ranch to dip it in. I really enjoyed The Big Hoss (pepperoni, ham, bacon, and sausage). The seasonings were all very tasty. The cheese pizza was 'meh' but that's to be expected with cheese pizza. Pizza Hoss isn't boss level, but it's solid.

We weren't a fan of the sauce on the pizza, and the cheese, which there was very little of, was not flavorful. I think (very locally) Gondolier and Elidios make a much better pizza. Even whole foods knoxville makes a much better pizza. I'm just surprised by the high score for this pizza place? Have none of these people been (knoxville) to Adopo or Tomato Head or Jabonis or even mellow mushroom? I would probably say the pizza here in my opinion is similar to your chain pizza delivery places. The pizza wasn't terrible just not special at all. I think pizza can be a very personal taste item. Just not impressed with Pizza Hoss Emory. I'm rating this establishment maybe higher than the review because the service and ambience was good.

We arrived on a Sunday evening and were promptly seated. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered a deep dish pizza with pepperoni and bolognese for entrees. For appetizers we ordered fried ravioli and garlic knots. Mysteriously, I am the only one in my family that appreciates a good garlic knot. The waiter voiced his approval of the order for the bread. He was right!! The garlic knots were great. They were light and fluffy and so delicious. The ravioli was good but not a stand out. The entrees were a mix. The pizza was outstanding. The pie was not heavy and the ingredients were top notch. The bolognese was another thing entirely. It was brought out soupy. We have had bolognese in a lot of places and they are different to a degree...not soupy like this. The pasta was out of a box. Once you have had homemade pasta, factory made pasta is easy to tell. Finally, Gavino's did not have cappuccino or any coffee at all!! We were surprised...we looked around at the wonderful Italian decor, the red and white plaid tablecloths, the full Italian dessert menu and could not believe the restaurant did not have some kind of coffee, Italian or otherwise! To our waiter's credit, he did offer to make some especially for us but that's not the point. An Italian joint should have some Italian coffee. We left without ordering dessert, which is a rarity. But the lack of coffee killed the vibe. We did bring the pizza home and we ate every slice of it over the next few days. So, go for the pizza and garlic knots and bring your cappuccino with you. ;)
