Really bummed about our experience, as the fun and creative menu looked promising and it is less than 10 minutes from our house. We ordered online and my husband left immediately for pickup. He received a notice while pulling out of our garage that the pizzas were ready. What? Normally, we would like quick service, but this also meant our food wouldn't be hot. Once he arrived at Hard Knox, my husband saw our pizzas sitting on the counter, near an AC vent. Bummer. He advised me to turn on the oven to reheat them. We ordered (boxing themed pizzas-FYI): The Great White Hope +spinach and with red sauce on the side and the Carnera with Italian sausage and no onions. Not only were our pizzas cold to the touch, but the red sauce was placed on the white pizza and they seemed to omit the pesto cream sauce. That was the whole reason for ordering that one. There also was such a small amount of cheese, but we did appreciate that it was fresh sliced moz. There was also a large amount of meat on both pizzas. The Italian sausage was crumbled and very well-seasoned and tasty. The chicken was heavily marinated in a red pepper mixture and had a major kick. I had to remove some because it overpowered the other toppings. Silver lining, the service was very friendly and the ingredients seemed quality and fresh. We really liked the chewy, wood-fired crust (except how floppy the portion holding the ingredients was). However, the cost for a 12" pizza was about $20 each and they require tip prior to pickup or service. We won't be back, unfortunately. read more

We stopped here for lunch. The employees greeted us immediately upon arrival. Since it was lunch time we opted for two smaller pizzas and an appetizer. The pizza was really good.. it's wood fired pizza with a perfect amount of char on them. The BLT version was pretty decent. I loved the tomatoes on them.. the bacon was very sparse and I enjoy the arugula on top but it was kind of hard to eat since it was just a big pile. I ended up taking off the arugula and just having it as a salad on the side. The garlic knots were swimming in oil, garlic and spices. Personally I thought the price of them was pretty steep for middle of the road garlic knots. I would probably skip them next time. This place is a pricy place for pizza but it is wood fired and getting it cooked perfectly is where the cost justifies the price. read more

First time here and it was great... shared an 8" pizza and CEASAR salad with a girlfriend after the Chocolate fest!!! Which was great by the way!!! Fast service, clean , thin crust brick oven pizza was great and the salad was too!! We visited this pizza restaurant on our granddaughter's recommendation. She works there and raves about how good the pizza is. I have to say she's right. I thought it was a little expensive, but the pizza is uncommonly good. It's the crust that makes the pizza so good, but they also have some unusual combinations and use spices most Pizza restaurants don't use. My husband and I shared a bone crusher. What attracted me to that pizza was the rosemary. I love rosemary and have never had the opportunity to get fresh rosemary on a pizza. It was quite good. My grandson got a pizza that included pistachios. His cousin had a cheese pizza. My daughter got one of their gourmet salads. I don't remember what my son in law got but it was one of the white pizzas with chicken. Their holiday special is the Festivus. Everyone was happy and enjoyed their dinner. My granddaughter enjoys working at Hard knocks, so they must treat their employees right. I hate eating at restaurants where the staff is unhappy. The stress gets passed on to the dinners. The pizza came out quickly. They serve wine and beer as well as tea and soft drinks. There was no trouble finding a place to park. Take my granddaughter's advice and try it. Wood fired Neapolitan Pizza chain in the Knoxville area. My family stopped in here while in town for a soccer tournament. Super friendly and helpful staff member helped us pick from the pies based on our tastes. The cheese bread is SUPER cheesy and we really enjoyed it, but the $13 price tag is a tad steep. My son and husband enjoyed The rocky top pizza with ranch dressing. It had plenty of toppings and the 12" was plenty for them to share along with the cheese bread. I had the Pastrano which was good, but I felt like it was a little lacking in flavor. Would have been better with a hot honey or balsamic drizzle on top. The crust of both pizza was good dipped in our cheese bread marinara. Really good texture that is not too thin and not too thick. With Knox Pizza, I received neither. 38 dollars for a skimpy "large" salad and an even smaller pizza. The pizza wasn't even fancy, pepp, cheese and banana peppers. We really enjoyed the pizza here. The garlic knots are a must have! They are soo soft and doughy. The garlic butter they have in the plate is the perfect compliment for the two pizzas we got: Carnera and Iron Mike. If it's your first time here, try a red and a white sauce! The mushrooms added to the Iron Mike were great and the flavor really shined through especially when dipped with their garlic butter. I love that you can assemble and make your own pizza and it tastes like an oven fired pizza. Their meatballs are amazing and I would have a whole meatball sandwich with those on top. The arugula salad was surprisingly good considering I don't like arugula and this is the only salad I can eat with arugula . Love the Parmesan slices on top and the vinaigrette it comes with. I didn't have much interaction with the workers since my roommate picked up the food since she works there. Glad that Hard Knox is doing well. First the renovation at the original location and now a second location. Nothing much to say besides they do have the best pizzas in town even in this new location. I would always recommend getting at least one white and one red. My current favorite is the 'Le Boxeur' (it's a white), and the amount of meat on the pie is crazy. I hope it stays that way even after the 'new location feeling' has passed. read more

I came here to get takeout, and I ordered online apparently to the wrong location. When I came here to pick it up, the cashier called the other location to check and said that order could be voided and to pay again here. That was so nice of her to do! I did so and waited for about ten minutes for it. I got the D'Amato and added salami to it, and it was delicious. Crust was chewy, lots of toppings, good flavors, not too oily. Very tasty! Caesar was excellent as dressing was good. Garlic knots were fresh and obviously hand made. Pizza crust was good. I am giving this a 3 star due to the price. This is by far the best pizza you can get in Knoxville! It's delicious and never burnt as often is the case with wood fired pizza. My dad had to have an emergency surgery. Came here with lots of excitement for thin, hot, crispy, and flavorful pizza. That is exactly what we were met with. We couldn't even wait to take pictures of our complete pizza it was so tempting! As someone else in the reviews has mentioned this pizza joint is entirely run by high school aged kids but don't let that deter you, the service is good and the pizza is even better. Hard Knox... In Hardin Valley? Yes. Thanks for moving closer to where I live so now I don't have to worry about driving all the way to get good pizza. And believe me it makes it a world of difference when it's closer because I've been here twice and haven't even gotten to it on my list of reviews to write. We ordered the Carnera with Prosciutto and a Le Boxeur pizza to go on our first visit. The second time was just as good as the first and the place is spacious! The quality of the pizza has stayed the same in comparison to the original spot. So, if you're wary about new locations, it hasn't changed. This place is near for the people on the far west of town so it's very convenient for those living in Oak Ridge or Farragut. I would completely recommend coming here and eating if you're looking for a wood fired pizza. read more

Probably the best pizza we have ever eaten. We had the Barnstormer (red sauce) and Iron Mike (white sauce). The hand tossed pizzas, baked in a wood fired oven were outstanding. And unlike most other wood fired ovens, you can really taste the smokiness in them. It was also extremely crowded because we went on a night when they had some sort of event going on, so we sat outside. Due to the event it took about 35-40 min to get a single pizza. The salad was pretty good with plenty of dressing, my husband and I shared a half size so the salad portions were quite large. The pizza was very done, almost to the point of being burnt which I normally do t mind because then you get a crispy crust, however ours was not, so we had a burnt floppy crust. Not very appetizing. In my humble opinion, Hard Knox has the best pizza crust in Knoxville. That's what keeps bringing me back. We love wood fire pizza. And understand their slogan "wood is good" We've had several pizzas on the menu and have enjoyed them all some more than others. The "La Motta" and "Marciano" is what we keep coming back. The "La Motta" is our favorite white pie. It's fresh mozzarella, caramelized garlic, extra-virgin olive oil and fresh oregano. The " Marciano" is our favorite red pie, fresh mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil and basil. It's really a margarita pizza in disguise. We occasionally change it up and get "The Great White Hope" it consists of pesto cream, fresh mozzarella marinated cage free, non-GMO chicken, ham shaved Parmesan, crushed red peppers and extra virgin olive oil. If you think you'll have the room, try their mini meatballs! They are delicious. So is the housemaid five cheese bread. Definitely a kid favorite! The house made focaccia is also a winner. Hard knox is the best pizza place in entire knox area. They pizza is authentic wood fired and have that rich smokey flavor. Its thin crust pizzas a its hard to find places that make them. Rocky balboa pizza is my favorite. Also, their garlic knots are very addictive. Once you try them, you can't stop at one. I really wanted this joint to be good. We live close by and it would be really convenient. Let's get the stuff you aren't here for out of the way first. The restaurant itself is brand new, so it's nice and clean. The staff is nice enough, too. No complaints there. The pizza, though, is less than desirable. I've been eating pizza on a regular basis (weekly or more often) for as long as I can remember. And I don't think I'm terribly picky as it relates to pizza. (Maybe I'm wrong). If it's my choice, I have my favorites. But I also eat the chains (Pizza Hut, Domino's, Marco's, Pappa John's, Blaze, etc). I do, however, steer clear of the buffets (Cici's and the like). My fiancée opted for pepperoni and mushrooms (I feel like they had a name for that pie, but don't recall what it was). I got the Bonecrusher (pepperoni and sausage, minus the red pepper). Her pie looked a bit more done than mine (as though they had left it in the oven a bit longer than mine). As I ate it, again, it just didn't taste as "done" as I would have liked. In addition, the taste just wasn't "on point." I generally love the crust, but I didn't take more than one bite of their crust. Not good. While not aweful, we won't be back (too many other good options). Two of us ate (most of) a 12" pie each and each had a drink. The total bill was just shy of $35.00. I'm not cheap, but it wasn't a $35.00 meal for me. (As a point of reference, I gladly pay nearly that much at my favorite pizza joint when I done alone). Only time will tell if this place survives. They appear to have one other location that has been around for years, so maybe I'm the outlier here. Try this place at your own risk. You've been warned. read more
