Place is a non assuming family style Italian restaurant and family is originally from Sicily. As soon as we walked in, owner of the restaurant knew our group leader and chatted him up about a clean up of a popular cave nearby (that event was years ago) and our group leader was pleasantly surprised she remembered him. I'm not surprised, Ray is an awesome guy. But kudos to the owner for the TLC. We all had separate checks and we ordered pizzas, an alfredo and 2 veggie calzones. My calzone was delicious and nothing like a good meal after a days of hard physical and mental work! We enjoyed our dinner and we will be back when in the area!

My guy ordered a slice of pepperoni (FYI - slices are only available until 1pm) some cheese stuffed bread sticks and a churro. When we opened the pizza bag in the car as we drove, there were actually two slices. Not sure if we paid for two even though only one was ordered or if they were being generous. The two slices combined made for what I thought one slice would look like sizewise. My guy said the flavor was average. The cheesy breadsticks were good - loaded with cheese and some nice garlicky flavor on the outside. The churro....well, I took one bite of the churro and declined another bite. I love churros and this was NOT good. Barely any cinnamon & sugar on the outside and the inside was not cooked enough. Pass on the churros! Service was kinda friendly, I guess.

Fast forward to post-COVID, and it's been transformed into something completely different: Fancy Pizzeria, run by a family with a clear passion for what they do, complete with an oven imported from Italy. Anytime someone says Safford needs a Chili's, I cringe... not because I don't like Chili's, but because good help is hard to find in a small town. The owners here seem to understand that, keeping things lean and hands-on with very little hired help. As a result, the service from the husband-and-wife team is genuinely great... though when it gets busy, things can slow down. I've experienced that firsthand, and walked out once a couple years ago after a long wait...but I came back, and I'm glad I did. The food is, simply put, amazing. The pizza has that perfect charred crust you usually only find in bigger cities or on the East Coast. The Italian sodas are excellent. I've yet to try anything, from appetizers to pasta dishes, that didn't hit the mark. Prices are a bit higher than most spots in town, but the quality absolutely justifies it when it's in the budget. I've heard the name "Fancy Pizzeria" was intentional: they wanted to set the expectation that this isn't your typical greasy pizza joint... and they deliver on that, consistently. The dining area has expanded quite a bit recently, and the decor is creative and unique, with many of the dishes and utensils sourced from local thrift shops. All in all, this place stands out in Safford in the best way. I genuinely love everything about it and hope they can continue to operate in the years to come!

The employees move like lighting! Especially in a busy night (like tonight) they're really hustling! The pizza is a New York style and it's always FRESH! There will be a wait for it too - so here's a tip - if you don't want to wait, try the lunch special (which you can order Anytime) and it's hot pizza slices that are ready to go. During the time that we ate our meal I saw them bring pizza after pizza into the hot glass oven where they keep them for people that order slices. I also ordered the zucchini and I do love their zucchini they do have my favorite ranch too! The cheeseburger was yummy and they have seasoned fries that go with it. today I tried the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and it was very good I like the pickle spear too. Tip #2 - if you are in a big hurry I would suggest calling ahead. Tonight my daughter is getting a snow cone and they also have ice cream! I like that the TV is usually playing the latest game so it's just a fun atmosphere and you can also order a pitcher of beer or a bottle of beer they pretty much have it all here! Tip #3 - if you're going to get wings I would request them extra crispy and of course you know me I like extra sauce! For anyone on the Arizona Trail they have a hikers box!
