Pizza Express on North Bridge is in a good location, just off the Royal Mile, and right next to the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton PRO TIP: If you're dining in, be sure to use the Pizza Express app, depending on your tier in their loyalty scheme, you can get a bunch of free items with your meal. As a gold member, I can receive rewards such as Bottled Water, a soft drink, a hot drink and dolcetti, dough balls and a Romana pizza upgrade, at no additional charge. It can be a little pricey here, but when combined with these offers, or other offers, such as Tesco Clubcard, it becomes much more affordable, especially as you can combine it with a Pizza Express gift card, which is often sold at 20% off at retailers such as Amazon and Tesco. Starting with the positives, they are in a good location for the city centre, with St James Quarter, Edinburgh Waverley Station a short walk away, and the interior is attractive with these stunning, bold, orange booths which are comfortable, the interior is also large and can accommodate a good number of tables, including large groups, but that's sadly where the positives seem to end. I ordered a gluten-free Pollo Ad Astra pizza, with gluten-free dough balls. For my drink, I picked up a Sprite and a 1L bottle of Acqua Panna still water. The pizza was a huge disappointment, despite this being one of my go-to orders when visiting Pizza Express locations, back home in England, it wasn't good at all. The cheese had clumped together and had become hard and chewy, and wasn't good at all, the pizza base tasted more like cardboard than authentic Italian and wasn't good either. The gluten-free dough balls were fine but did need quite a bit of garlic butter just to make them edible, I did have to ask them for more garlic butter as they didn't fill the pot, and I was charged for this. (They did remove the charge after I complained, but normally this isn't an issue.) The staff were fine but not overly friendly either. Drinks were pre-bottled so no complaints on that front. My guest, just wanted to try the hot drink and dolcetti option, she was unable to have a coffee as the coffee machine was not working, so had to opt for a cup of tea instead. I'm a big Pizza Express fan but this particular location lets them down, especially in terms of food quality. It's a shame too as I really wanted to like this place due to the stunning and comfortable recently refurbished interior. 2*

I am for sure a fan of this place. Don't be fooled by the name. This is actually a very trendy place. The food is absolutely delicious! I recommend getting the Bosco Salad, Campo de'fiori Pizza, and Banoffee Pie. They're pretty darn good! This place gets quite busy at night. I would call them and make a reservation. Oh yeah, you should also tell them when you have to leave, just so the waiter is aware of your time constraints. The staff is friendly and attending. -1 for making me wait 20 minutes for the food. Overall, I had a great experience here. Just a great place to enjoy some good Italian food and relax.

Very classy for a pizza place, and i like the fact you can see the pizzas being freshly prepared (and it kept my kids amused). The food is lovely, if not a bit pricey for what it actually is though. The service was fast and efficient and the waitress kept making sure the kids were ok too. I had the best wine ever in there, it was the house white, Isola Talia i think it was called. It was so fruity and went down a little to well :) The food was piping hot and portions were of a good size. Kids were given an activity pack, so that kept them amused too. I like this place, and i will most certainly be back :)

Reservation is required. We were turned away tonight and it didn't look busy at all. We will not go back. Somewhat rude.

Great, tasty food, surprisingly good for a chain. Good Covid protocols in place and the service was amazing for the price point !

He made great wine recommendations and treated us very well. This restaurant has a certain hustle and bustle of a busy Italian restaurant, but still captures the intimate feeling of closeness with their seating area. We decided to start with Focaccia and it wasn't disappointing! It had a crisp exterior with a nice, fluffy interior. The Focaccia had just the right amount of oil and salt to make it the perfect starter. Despite having a delicious line-up of pasta, I just had to go with the pizza. Once again, I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The pizza had some of the most delicious sauce I've had in a while. The cheese was perfectly melted and the crust featured a similar structure to the Focaccia. What really set the pizza apart was the chili oil our waiter drizzled on top. I'm so glad I took him up on his offer because it added a pleasant spicy kick to the pizza. I was also able to sample my wife's vegan pizza. She also decided to go with the chili oil and her pizza was some of the best vegan pizza we've experienced together. It was packed with delicious vegetables and the mozzarella vegan cheese wasn't too heavily applied, nor did it give the extra gooey mouth feel that vegan cheese often has. Combined with the chili oil, it was a wonderful experience. I'm so glad we made it out to Vittoria.

We did that...but pizza is life...especially NYC-style pizza slices...so when Civerono's showed up on our radar a 2-minute walk from our hotel...there was nothing to consider...this was inevitable. One of their pizzas was listed by Timeout magazine as the 13th best in the world. Okay. Count us in even more. Now, we didn't get that one because it wasn't a vegetarian slice, but if they ranked so highly, surely the basic cheese slice would be at least acceptable. Spoiler alert: it was. My wife and shared a single margarita slice, split in half for the two of us. We were between lunch and dinner, so the main goal here was to try this pizza, not necessarily to fill ourselves up before resuming our Scottish-appropriate adventure. It was good. Super thin as a good NYC slice should be. If it were the local slice option for us back home, I would be happy with it. We thought the dough was a little bit undercooked, so not quite as chewy or crisp as we would have liked. It had a good mix of cheese and sauce, and the flavor was great. So perhaps not the best slice we've had, but miles above the chain pizza spots. The staff was really nice. We were there at about 3:30 in the afternoon, so it wasn't really very crowded. They have salads, and also Detroit-style pizza (Though I think only in full-pie form and only Pepperoni on the menu, so not sure if a vegetarian option is available if you're ordering a whole pie. It's a small but welcoming environment with rainbows everywhere. If we had a Civerino's near us in California, it would definitely be high up in the weekly pizza rotation.

I was happy to find an Italian restaurant in Scotland since I was looking for some comfort food. The interior has lots of seating space in separate little rooms. It's all one connected space, but there are separators and barriers around the sections, if that makes sense. There's seating for larger and smaller groups, and I was immediately seated at a table by myself. The staff was very friendly. I ordered the arancini and seasonal risotto. I told you, I wanted CARBS. The arancini was gooey and cheesy and fantastic and came with a spicy tomato salsa. The perfect appetizer. The risotto was divine! It came in a parmesan cheese crisp bowl and had a parm cheese base, pears mixed in, and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top with some arugula. Everything came together for one delicious, decadent meal. The portion was also huge and I had plenty left over for another meal. My server and I talked about cats and I instantly felt welcomed in Edinburgh and at La Favorita. If you like Italian food, I definitely recommend hitting them up!

Not least because the twinkly-eyed waiter called me "young lady" - this kind of complimentary talk earns anyone an instant tip as far as I'm concerned. This eatery is the kind of classic, traditional Italian experience which has to produce at least a smile from visitors, even if you've had the worst day at work ever/been dumped/dropped your favourite ornament/are a generally grumpy individual. I opted for the Risotto Imperiale, a tasty, well presented, affair, which came with jumbo, juicy prawns and a langoustine with one claw perched on top of a generous portion of rice and champagne sauce. My very critical fellow diner, definitely a pizza enthusiast, went for the Pizza ai due Salami, which after a few minutes of careful munching he announced was "very good", definitely high praise for him, before continuing to devour the rest of his meal, (only offering me a small slither). La Favorita has a pretty extensive menu, with all the dishes on offer you would expect from an Italian restaurant, so if you've got a craving for decent pasta and pizza somewhere different, where you're not paying over the odds, take a wander away from the centre of town and get down to Leith Walk.
