We had to try Civerinos voted 7th best pizza in the world featuring NY style pizzas and more while in Edinburgh! We stopped in and were quickly seated without a reservation but we did have to sit at two separate tables but didn't mind. While I don't think this is the 7th best pizza I have ever eaten it was very tasty and I enjoyed the Parmesan crust. There is more seating downstairs and a cute patio area. Great pizza. Try the hot sauce! They had limited drinks but we tried the frozen aperol and it was really good. They were cool about omitting meat for mushrooms on the one pizza we got! Service was good and the place was cute. We totally recommend. Not sure if they had a restroom but we were staying close by so not an issue. read more

Super busy restaurant with incredible gourmet pizza slices or full pizzas. It was a cold 54*F tonight so sitting on the front patio was not even a possibility so we ventured to the inside which was a visible adventure. Colorfully painted walls and the flames from the wood fired oven were in full force flaming up a gargantuan pizza. The server gave us some pointers on the different variations of pizza slices. Ordered a SPICY PEPPERONI & MOZZARELLA WITH PARSLEY AND PARMESAN. Odored this pizza which had a bubbled crust and chared underbelly. The spicy pepperoni was not overbearing and had a nice parmesan kick. Lots of take away and delivery orders flying out of the shop non-stop (Uber Eats and Deliveroo accepted). Obviously, this was a top notch pizzeria in the community and it helps being across from the University of Edinburgh. The bathroom was down a staircase which had black and white angled lines which made me dizzy as I slowly departed down and the bathroom was clean and very basic. We had a 12:30 pm Islander bag appointment. We had a big breakfast but decided we needed a bite before making our bags then going to the castle. This pizza spot had good reviews. I will say it's solid NY style pizza (in my opinion). I had the veggie which was pre-made and just had a slice. It wasn't super filling which was okay because we had more snacks and a big dinner planned for later. It wasn't the best pizza I've ever had and not the worst. After a long day, I was looking for a quick takeaway dinner on my walk home. A friend recommended a slice of pizza from Civerino's so I made my way over! They had an ordering station right at the door. Not all of their pizza flavors are available to order just a slice but they still had sufficient options. I ended up ordering a slice of the margherita pizza. Be warned they're only given to you on a paper plate! I didn't mind since I planned on digging into it right away. It's a big slice! Honestly seemed like 1/4 of a pizza which was perfect since I was very hungry. It was really warm and cheesy and honestly an experience I'm eager to repeat again. It wasn't badly priced at 4.50 gbp, especially considering the size of the slice. They had lots of other yummy options on the menu so I definitely intend on returning. Hard to tell if I'm reviewing the location by the royal mile or not as there was only one on Yelp but solid place! We ordered two pizzas and a mushroom appetizer as well as a beer and a cider. The pizza was loaded with pepperoni and the margarita one was very cheesy. The mushroom app was nothing like I've had before and the focaccia it came with was hot and fluffy and full of garlic flavor. Highly recommend this quaint place with good service. read more

MY RATING: 3.5 Civerinos has a fun atmosphere and delicious pizza! It's also conveniently located right off the Royal Mile. I took half of a point off because that mac'n'cheese was disappointing. They have a few other vegan items on the menu that I would love to try next time I'm in town! *everything I ordered *VEGAN MAC'N'CHEESE - creamy oat milk, vegan cheddar, dijon mustard sauce, parsley. The pasta was cooked to a good consistency. The sauce was creamy. However, it was on the bland side. It needed more salt, more mustard, more something. *DAY TRIPPIN - vegan cheese, wild mushrooms, truffle oil and parsley. The server placed the pizza on my table, and I instantly inhaled that heavenly truffle scent. The mushrooms were cooked so well that they melted in my mouth like butter. The pizza was bubbly and crunchy, but still soft and slightly chewy. Which is just how I like it! The portion was big! The mixture of cheese and oil made a creamy consistency. Overall, this pizza was scrumptious! My only suggestion is more truffle oil. To be honest, I don't know if there's never enough truffle oil for me. Civerinos is the coolest pizza joint in Edinburgh, with striking similarities to privately owned pizzerias in America, both atmosphere and taste. I love their motto branded on every cup and menu, "Death before Dominos," both because it suggests an eatery that goes above the norm, and because I despise mediocre Domino's Pizza just as much as they do. American rock and hip hop music sets the mood, the huge wood-fired oven swallows up giant circles of dough with masterful creations one after the next, and an almost psychedelic decor is complemented by youthful, hip workers, some tossing dough high in the air. The slices are enormous and one will suffice for most people (or three for champion eaters like me). Unlike many pizza places, you can order any style of pizza by the slice as long as it's listed on the menu. The combinations of ingredients are extremely clever, the sugo red sauce is good, and the crust is even better. My wife and I tried The Civerinos, with toppings combining flavorful clumps of Sicilian sausage, delicious thick slices of pepperoni, an abundance of rosemary, and melted mozzarella. These slices were ultimately topped with cold burrata, a milky fresh mozzarella mixed with cream which added another dimension of texture and temperature. We also tried the Civernos fries which were heavily spiced the way I like it and covered with cheese. Locals rate the pizzeria a 5, but I can't go that far. I know what a 5 is in the world of pizza, like Frank Pepe's in New Haven or Lombardi's in Little Italy. Civernos is no 5, it's more like a 3.9, but it's very good. And for Americans it's close to home. I think only two things stand between a 4-star rating and a 5-star rating. First, Americans are accustomed to much more red sauce and there just wasn't enough to complement the ingredients. But I understand that light quantities of sauce is a European thing. Second, the quality of the mozzarella was not good. At the best pizzerias in Italy and America, you can really taste the cheese as it holds together all the ingredients with a delicious quality! At Civerinos, it was more like grated tasteless tofu, failing to add anything to the flavor. That was extremely obvious on the loaded fries, with strings of tasteless mozzarella when closely examined. But no doubt, you'll get a good slice of pizza here and I'd recommend it. read more

Wait staff is super nice, pizza is great, and it's a good vibe. I'm not sure if it's up to all the hype that I've heard about it, but it's very good! Have gone here once for slices, and also gotten delivery. First off - they have vegan pizza!! Awesome. My vegan friend had a slice and liked it. I tried the Civerinos - a delicious pepperoni/burrata rendition, as well as the Veggie As - a sweeter beet + chevre + rocket with a drizzle of balsamic - which I liked just as much as the civerinos. Put together with a beer (wish they had more selection!) and it made for a great meal. Definitely will be back. read more

Always a go-to when visiting Edinburgh! Went straight for Civerinos after our 8 hour flight--sleep deprived but pizza comes first! We tried the Detroit slices with a side of the Parmesan Truffle Fries. Both were amazing--the slices had a good crisp to them and the honey chili drizzle on top makes it! Just no. Please don't waste your time for this place. We waited 30 minutes even though we were told we only had a 15-minute wait. All the while we watched the staff eating at a booth in the restaurant. When we finally got food, a pizza with ZERO CHEESE and ZERO FLAVOR. Please don't eat here... I promise you'll be disappointed. Best Caesar salad ever! Everyone talks about the pizza but def order a salad to go with your pie and you won't be disappointed. Crispy romaine, fresh and crunchy croutons and the right amount of Parmesan cheese and dressing. We had it last night and Galvani this afternoon for lunch. NYC style pizza in Scotland! Very hipster place with a young crowd. You can order slices of pizza or a whole pie. The whole pie is huge and can serve about 3 very hungry people. We got the Civerinos whole pie and it was delicious. Crust was the right thickness, just enough sauce and cheese, and the toppings were great. Comes with Parmesan and chili flakes if you ask. You may feel you're not hip enough to eat here but that's okay as takeaway's an option. 20" pizzas offer the best value rather than by the slice so not ideal for a solo visit unless you're very hungry. Prepared to be proved wrong but there didn't appear to be a really spicy option on the menu; what is there offers a good range of flavours, although we had trouble working out which half of our order was the margarita & which the one with 6 cheeses on it. Service was good and friendly and the decor reflects stickering & skate culture (be sure to cop a sticker or two at the end of your visit). The music was pretty decent although a bit more work could probably go into the playlist(s) as there was some repetition. I found it odd too that the soft drink selection was rather generic i.e. Coca Cola rather than something sexier/less morally suspect. read more

What a disappointment. We wanted to order a couple of slices of pizza to take and eat at our hotel room after a busy day. The restaurant was not full, but after we ordered takeaway and paid, we were asked to wait outside in the cold. Then, they brought out our takeaway slices on paper plates. No box, no bag, no napkins. Excellent pizza options. I had the Tommy Boy and it was flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. Service was on point as well which is critical for me, even more than the food. The server was attentive even with several large parties in the joint. Also, because I ordered a second slice, they were in process of making new pie.
