Beautiful bar had very high hopes going in. All was crushed by the blonde waitress we had in the pizza/brewery area. We came in early before our large party of 15 arrived, was told we only were allowed to order small plates which was fine, but I got one pineapple float and then tried to order a Tennessee peach drink and were given attitude from the beginning, it was about 15 minutes of waiting for the drink when I asked where it was and she interrupted me abruptly and said "I know it's coming" the rest of our party got here and they were asked for their order I was yet again ignored. We also asked for water and were never given any AND Drink never arrived, waitress was very rude and miserable I would never come here again because of her. Writing this while we are still here because it was that awful.

The Roof Terrace at Cold Town House is a must visit spot in Grassmarket! We made reservations because we knew how popular it could get, and had such a unique experience. It's situated just below Edinburgh Castle, so the views are absolutely unparalleled! It feels like you're sitting in a private perennially-in-bloom garden because of all the hanging florals; which, despite being fake, work really here. There are high top chairs, bench seating in the middle with pillows and blankets, gondolas along the side for intimate seating, and heaters that you can turn on/off yourself. It is a very, very cool, hip, trendy space. We came around 5pm for drinks before dinner elsewhere. There are loads of beverage options including enormous cocktails to share, "trees" with nine to twelve glasses, alcoholic slushies, mocktails, their own signature beer, wine, bubbles, and whisky. I only had an Aperol Spritz; admittedly, it wasn't great (it tasted mostly like soda water). When I come back, I'll probably stick to a glass of prosecco or a dram of some single malt! The staff seemed annoyed. When we arrived, there was no one to check us in on the first or second floors, so we let ourselves up to the rooftop terrace (there was no signage anywhere saying we needed to wait to be seated). While it was busy, there was still no sign of staff minus the bartender who ignored us when we approached him. After several awkward minutes, a staff member finally appeared, and rushed up to us to tell us off for standing at the bar ("this is table service! you need a reservation!"). We explained we did, were finally sat, the staff member took our order immediately, then we never saw them again. Just a heads-up here!

Looking for pub food that wasn't the same old thing. Checked out Cold Town house and found so fun food. The service was quick, friendly and informative. The ambiance was sports bar/pub vibe with good music. Worth checking out.

Oh. My. Gosh. Just go here. Between the four of us we had a haggis pizza, a pizzette with salad, a Cold Town Hotdog and haggis fries!!! Every single bite was completely delicious and the service was so incredible!!!! Just go.

Perfect place for us to stop in after a long day of traveling. They make an amazing pornstar martini. Really cool atmosphere inside. I wasn't able to check out their terrace but I heard it has great castle views. They also serve outside in the plaza during the day which also has amazing castle views. We got a pizza and some loaded fries which did not disappoint.

Our dinner tonight was on point! Beer was cold! 《-- EXTRA POINTS We were first taken in by the atmosphere, which was just what we wanted it to be. And then, Ben topped it off with incredible over-the-top service. He let us sample things we weren't sure of, and encouraged us to try Haggis; he even gave my husband a taste. Too bad my husband's getting no more kisses. Thanks Ben! You were awesome, and icing on the restaurant cake.

Wasn't very crowded but had to wait 30 mins for kitchen to catch up before being allowed to place an order. Namesake NE IPA was meh. Pizza was good, though cheese could've used a few more mins in the oven. Bar staff was great.

So surprised not to see more reviews for this great spot! We were visiting from NYC and lucky enough snatch a reservation on the rooftop after two people who came by after us canceled theirs (they were fully booked there and inside on a Tuesday, so strongly recommend making reservations in advance). Ordered a beer tower more for the novelty of it than anything, but we ended up really liking the beer. We only got chips as a snack, but the pizzas looked great and they even had vegan-friendly options. Service was a tiny bit slow, but friendly, and you can't bear the amazing location and views. Absolutely worth a visit!

I am so glad I made a reservation at this spot. EVERYONE said this was a must try spot. If you want to sit on the roof, you have to have a reservation. The restaurant is 3 levels, but the likelihood of being able to walk in and get a roof seat is unlikely. It was just me, so they put me in one of the classic zip line esque gondolas. It was a cool intimate little spot, and each one probably sits up to 4 or 5 comfortably. It was a bit nippy out, but they have a ton of heaters you can turn on at your leisure. You are truly a right below the castle, the view can't be beat. Each level is its own unique vibe / setting, and has their own unique menus. Thankfully my waitress was cool and let me order some of the 2nd level drinks, as the rooftop bar (a little VW bus truck!) is a limited menu. Fish and chips were incredible and perfectly crisp. Highly recommend, and highly recommend you book a reservation and EARLY. I booked this a month out and got the last one for the entirety of my trip.

Pretty cool place we stumble upon again. From the outside, we honestly didn't think anything of it. We've walked by before but actually never went in until this time. Of course, it does surprise you inside. It's a cool gastropub vibe. Nice bar and pretty layout. Amazing concept of a bar restaurant. There's a cool communal seating area with a fireplace right inside. I believe they have live band every now and then. Don't quite me in that, just looked like there was stage that could cater to that. Drinks are great as well as food. We just got a few things to munch in as well as snack on. Service was great. Location is amazing as it's on the main strip right below the castle. You'll first notice the huge flower display on the outside that reminds you of Repunzel long hair but instead, flowers.

Food was amazing! Burgers here are best I've tasted in Edinburg. The service is a hit or miss though, some of them are kind but one of the waitresses was very rude. The food is more of bar food but still a good selection. Plus is the cools drink and wide variety of beer.

Visited here a few weeks ago. Location is amazing and very photogenic. Beer is good; food is mediocre. Definitely a touristy place during the festival season. I probably would try other restaurants in the area on my next trip.

He made great wine recommendations and treated us very well. This restaurant has a certain hustle and bustle of a busy Italian restaurant, but still captures the intimate feeling of closeness with their seating area. We decided to start with Focaccia and it wasn't disappointing! It had a crisp exterior with a nice, fluffy interior. The Focaccia had just the right amount of oil and salt to make it the perfect starter. Despite having a delicious line-up of pasta, I just had to go with the pizza. Once again, I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The pizza had some of the most delicious sauce I've had in a while. The cheese was perfectly melted and the crust featured a similar structure to the Focaccia. What really set the pizza apart was the chili oil our waiter drizzled on top. I'm so glad I took him up on his offer because it added a pleasant spicy kick to the pizza. I was also able to sample my wife's vegan pizza. She also decided to go with the chili oil and her pizza was some of the best vegan pizza we've experienced together. It was packed with delicious vegetables and the mozzarella vegan cheese wasn't too heavily applied, nor did it give the extra gooey mouth feel that vegan cheese often has. Combined with the chili oil, it was a wonderful experience. I'm so glad we made it out to Vittoria.

I was happy to find an Italian restaurant in Scotland since I was looking for some comfort food. The interior has lots of seating space in separate little rooms. It's all one connected space, but there are separators and barriers around the sections, if that makes sense. There's seating for larger and smaller groups, and I was immediately seated at a table by myself. The staff was very friendly. I ordered the arancini and seasonal risotto. I told you, I wanted CARBS. The arancini was gooey and cheesy and fantastic and came with a spicy tomato salsa. The perfect appetizer. The risotto was divine! It came in a parmesan cheese crisp bowl and had a parm cheese base, pears mixed in, and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top with some arugula. Everything came together for one delicious, decadent meal. The portion was also huge and I had plenty left over for another meal. My server and I talked about cats and I instantly felt welcomed in Edinburgh and at La Favorita. If you like Italian food, I definitely recommend hitting them up!

Not least because the twinkly-eyed waiter called me "young lady" - this kind of complimentary talk earns anyone an instant tip as far as I'm concerned. This eatery is the kind of classic, traditional Italian experience which has to produce at least a smile from visitors, even if you've had the worst day at work ever/been dumped/dropped your favourite ornament/are a generally grumpy individual. I opted for the Risotto Imperiale, a tasty, well presented, affair, which came with jumbo, juicy prawns and a langoustine with one claw perched on top of a generous portion of rice and champagne sauce. My very critical fellow diner, definitely a pizza enthusiast, went for the Pizza ai due Salami, which after a few minutes of careful munching he announced was "very good", definitely high praise for him, before continuing to devour the rest of his meal, (only offering me a small slither). La Favorita has a pretty extensive menu, with all the dishes on offer you would expect from an Italian restaurant, so if you've got a craving for decent pasta and pizza somewhere different, where you're not paying over the odds, take a wander away from the centre of town and get down to Leith Walk.
