The bar is located upstairs if you're looking for it. The review only covers the bar area. We stopped in for a few beverages. Service was quick. The staff were friendly. The actual bar it self is old and they have a massive variety of liquors. There were several people lined up to enter when we left and they appeared to be wanting to eat in the restaurant area. Watching some of the bar staff make drinks right in front of you was a fun experience. I would come back here!

Want a fancy drink? This is the place. I got the "I carried a watermelon" and my BF got whisky Macklemore, both equally decilious. I'm just here for drinks not the food.

Had a beer, thought a different band was playing and the one there was a lot like a high school garage band. The band I was looking for was a ten piece Scottish horn band and the were due on Saturday; we were there Friday :-) Can't win them all. The place had a tiny restaurant and narrow bar. We sat at a table and were told it was reserved which was very odd for a table in a small packed bar. Anyway, if they have a band you like, the room was pretty large and people were having a good time. I guess this joint would get a 4 or 5 if we stayed.

Who do? Voodo? Yeah, they do! This is the one bar I always visit on a night out, and it never ceases to amaze me! Firstly, as mentioned numerous times below the décor is awesome, it's a bit like a young Catherine Zeta Jones, sexy and welcoming! Big booths and a nice long bar! There is an absolutely beautiful cherry blossom tree outside and if you catch it at the right times of the year, it's a great view from up above. They have separate rooms that form a restaurant and a private area for functions etc, if you are smart, and sneaky like me, you can normally gate crash one of the private events going on. One time I snuck into hear a young guy form Glasgow, a white man with an afro, rock out some of the best MJ and Bill Withers covers I have ever heard (FYI 'Use me' by Bill Withers is my favourite song ever). This experience was made even more enjoyable by the absolutely orgasmic Mojito I was drinking at the time. The cocktails are among the best in town, after a while I normally go rogue and start asking for random things not on the menu - they have a huge espresso machine that looks like something form a steam punk film so that always make me think of espresso martinis Another time I visited, during a mega snow storm, and the cherry blossom tree looked like a big mutant ice lolly, I spotted Phil Jupitus on the decks. It was the night before Black Friday, and I was relieved to be away from work and to have some time for a drink. The night before Black Friday is an apprehensive one as you want to forget about the absolute pumping you will get the next day, but also you can't forget about it as you need to start lubricating. Anyway, Big Phil is on the decks, so I said to the girl I'm with, 'WTF is PJ doing on the decks?' to which she replied 'who is PJ?' and I said 'Phil Jupitus, no?', 'no?!' ....'oh...' I'll just be star struck alone- I tried to play it cool and not go over to get my photo taken with him, but a few more cocktails and we started chatting. 'Hey Phil, I think you are awesome!' 'Thanks man' 'So why are you on the decks here?' 'I owed a guy a favour' '....... Can I get a photo with you?' 'yeah, sure' I still have the photo

Playing host to the VERY Illicit Thrill Burlesque show during the fringe, the Voodoo Rooms comprises of a small labyrinth of bars and function rooms. They offer an extensive (and expensive!) range of cocktails, prepared by extremely skilled bar staff. Seriously, these guys and gals don't just throw some vodka and pineapple juice in a mixer. One lass was blow torching rosemary at the bar for a "smoked" effect. Despite it being a busy Friday night we were served pretty quickly, as staff effortlessly prepared complex feats of mixology. Unfortunately, my budget would only allow for 2 drinks, as cocktails start at £7.50, going up to 17 quid! The name says dark and mysterious, the decor says luxury, the music says "Turn the speakers off!" as a mix of...I think the kids call it house, or something to that effect, blasts through the small bar and seating areas. But, as a once in a while thing it's a nice treat, and the atmosphere is a mix of casual, to dolled up.

Quite an interesting labyrinth of eclectic rooms with high ceilings and ornate decorations. Unique cocktails and standard selection of ales, the draw here is definitely more with the atmosphere. Part gothic castle, part club, part weird. I was surprisingly amused by the music and lights and myriad of rooms in this spooky place. Kind of perfect for a place like Edinburgh. A classy place to hide in dark corners!

Having done some research on Yelp this sounded like the perfect bar to hang out in. The bar could be tricky to find if you didn't have a sat nav or local knowledge of the area as it is tucked away in the corner of a street. Upon arrival there was a bouncer on the door and leather walls led up to the main bar area - kinky! There are several rooms to this place but alas the room I really wanted to go in with a square coloured dance floor, was being hired out for a private party for the evening. The main bar was awesome - ornately decorated in black and gold and felt very plush - what a find! There are a number of booth like areas but we propped ourselves at the bar whilst looking over the cocktail menu. The bar staff were awesome! After having a few drinks my partner decided he would like a Bourbon milk punch! And despite this not being on the menu off they went to make it! They needed a little guidance in making it but were willing to accommodate the request. The punch was delicious! There was a DJ in the corner who played some awesome tunes which got people up and dancing including us. Would definitely strut my stuff into this bar again.

Lovely high ceiling entertainment rooms! The event room was dark and small and we expected magicians to turn up any second, but sadly they did not. It's a magical place! There are several rooms which served different drinks: a bar and a coffee shop with cute little Henderson Gin cups. The walls are all black with gold plated engravings - quite romantic! It's unique and different - worth exploring if you have the chance.

Voodoo Rooms sounds like it's going to be dark and mysterious, and it is in a way. The decor is impressive and really sets the tone of the bar. I have attended a couple of events here, organised by students for charity. Both were enjoyable and made good use of the venue, which shows the versatility of the bar. There was food available which was actually pretty good considering it was pub food. The only down side is the drinks are rather expensive so if you are here for the night it's going to be an expensive one. I attended a gig here and it was very small and intimate, the style of the bar really added an extra dimension to the atmosphere too. Voodoo Rooms does cool and stylish in a non pretentious way which is a welcome change from the trendy bars on nearby George Street.

Very eclectic with great food. Atmosphere is interesting and goth, to me... I had fried goat cheese and hummus then added broccoli soup with Stilton. Goat cheese amazing, hummus delicious definitely homemade in my opinion but soup lacked any sense of Stilton... was still very tasty though! Had a great glass of Romanian Pinot noir but would love to visit again for one of the very creative drinks from the menu!

Thankfully a couple left just as we arrived so we were able to snag a table pretty easily. The drinks are lovely and the flavor profiles are rather unique. I love spritz drinks so I really enjoy that they rotate the flavors seasonally at least. The last time I was in Edi, I stopped by maybe 2-3 times on my way to or from dinner for a cocktail. I tried to order different cocktails off the menu to taste as many as possible. I enjoyed every one of them which is surprising. Sometimes when a place tries to be different and interesting, the drinks can fall flat. These were exactly as described! I don't often eat here but one afternoon, we grabbed a cheese board, roasted turnip and hummus. The turnip was DELICIOUS. I was shocked since I never really care for them most days. I liked that the hummus was served with (i think) endive leaves. It added a nice crunch to the bite. The cheeses and bread were great. I have never seen one particular item before.... Pickled grapes. Wow. They were so interesting. The vinegar flavor was not strong but it added such a unique flavor to the otherwise sweet fruit.

When I visited Edinburgh recently Panda & Sons was one of the places I was looking to the most. However my experience was left feeling very mid. It's one of those things when you research a bar where I live and see also this fun and fancy decor and think to yourself, "Looks cool but are the drinks actually good?" I didn't want to think this though. I spent a little time reading the Switching method in their menu and thought that was a cool preparation method. But when I tasted my Birdcage for example, all I really tasted was Whiskey. I barely tasted any Aperol or anything else. The reason why Im still giving this place a higher review than I normally would is because of the service and ambience. If you've never been, getting down to the actual bar for the first time is a treat in itself. I feel like this was just an off night. It definitely was a full house the night me and my friends went so it's understandable that maybe things just slipped this particular night. I know from personal experience that when the ratios are a bit off, sometimes the flavors just kinda fall flat like an old soda and that's kinda what I tasted in my drinks that night...at the same time I still at least tasted alcohol. A good amount. Now you may laugh and say, "What do you mean? Why wouldn't there be?" Well...where I come from in the states theres places have cool decor and service but serve you drinks with barely any booze and charge you and arm and leg. Thankfully I was stumbling home a bit that night so no harm and no foul. I shall return for the runback the next time I come to Scotland!
