Christmas

Lovely place for a Christmas drink. We sat for about 20 minutes before being served, but once we were the staff were nice.

Stopped for a whiskey while walking around Edinburgh. I can see that this is listed as a champagne bar, but it looked like they had pretty tasty food. There was a vibrant scene of activity, with customers coming and going. Couples. Singles. Luxe and not so luxe. Sat at the bar and had a double scotch whiskey. My only complaint would be that we were quoted one price but the server apologized when he brought the bill and said he had inadvertently missed quoted us. It seemed harmless, so we didn't have a fuss. And the service was nice and accommodating, to make up for it. Maybe next time I'll try the food.

Great ambiance, service and food! The main room has a huge bar in the middle and the ceiling is beautiful. Our server was very friendly and pleasant! Food and drinks were great. Highly recommended for a date night

Bill for a wonderful bar room meal in The Dome. And it's 1.35 USD/GBP.

What a delightful, classy, and colorful dining venue this place is! We took an Uber ride to come here just for afternoon high tea (32 GBP pp) and it was about 1:45pm on a Saturday. Our tour guide recommended this place to us as Edinburgh's best venue for high tea. Unfortunately we didn't have a high tea reservation and the next opening for our party of 4 was too late at 4:45pm. Fortunately the host gave us a table for the also busy and popular Bar Grill in the Dome room for sandwiches, pastries, coffee, etc and that was perfect given the situation. It was a photogenic, classy, and memorable meal eating under the Dome and by the classy bar. We definitely felt like we were part of the "beautiful people" crowd of Edinburgh lol. For food, we enjoyed a bunch of items including a salmon sandwich, a ham sandwich, an egg salad sandwich, scone, pancakes, truffle fries, tea, and I also had a "proper" (ie, big glass) pint of a delectable Camden pale ale. The service was impeccable. It was a no brainer 5 star outing and thank you!

The dome was decorated beautifully. Service was nice. Sandwiches and desserts were great. Tea was good. Definitely a little pricey but a good experience.

Completely worth the hype! Sure, it's fairly expensive but you pay for the gorgeous building and ambiance, as well as the fine service. We came for lunch and had the best time. We both enjoyed steak pies that melted in your mouth. They have a wide variety of drinks from the bar and the service is exceptional. We had Nicole who was an absolute gem.

The Dome in Edinburgh is nestled in the heart of the city and boasts stunning architecture with exceptional Modern British cuisine. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the space. The high ceilings, intricate ceiling architecture, and amazing lighting were all overwhelming. I couldn't stop looking up. For drinks, I opted for the Scotch Old Fashioned. I'm not a scotch person so this was ok. I tried. Give me credit. The lunch prefix menu offered an array of dishes. The sun-dried tomato salad was a refreshing surprise. I loved this take on a salad. The tomatoes were juicy and flavorful and the dressing was tangy. The highlight, however, was the seafood pie. This dish featured huge pieces of salmon and cod enveloped in a creamy sauce. Shepherd's pie... look out! Instead of dessert, I got the cheese plate. The blue cheese was my favorite! It was light and crumbly. The Dome's site was originally home to the old Physicians' Hall, built in 1775 by James Craig. The building cost far more than anticipated, leaving the College of Physicians in debt. Eventually, the Commercial Bank of Scotland bought it for £20,000 in 1843, demolished it and had it rebuilt Grace-Roman style. After several mergers, the building ceased to be a bank head office in 1959. In 1993, it was sold and transformed into The Dome, opening in 1996. Loved this lunch. If not to eat, just walk through.

Beautiful dining venue with great food at reasonable prices and great attentive service from the staff. Very pleased that the manager came by at the end of our meal to inquire if everything had been to our satisfaction. Only one thing was negative and that is the cost for 4 pieces of bread at the beginning of the meal. This could and should be included in the meal cost.

Take a peak if you can! Stunning!

Food was fantastic, service perfection, charming doesn't come close- just a beautiful experience all around!

Absolutely beautiful location! The atmosphere and setting were definitely a highlight. However, we did experience a long wait to be seated despite having a reservation, which was a bit frustrating. The food was okay..the bread we ordered was disappointing, and while my main dish was good, it wasn't anything spectacular. Our waiter was very kind and attentive, which I appreciated, but overall the experience felt underwhelming. I had high hopes for this visit and unfortunately left feeling somewhat disappointed.

The Corinthian columns and marble bars alone are enough to make this a fine dining atmosphere .But during the holidays, walking into the Neoclassical architecture of The Dome feels equivalent to walking into a Christmas movie. We were lucky enough to be in Edinburgh during the holiday season and were pleasantly surprised by the INSANE Christmas decorations. They go all out. The Georgian Tea Room is up on the second floor and they have a beautiful bar/restaurant area under the Dome downstairs. We ordered the afternoon tea package that comes with a sausage roll, sandwiches, scones, and cookies/cake. There are also vegetarian/vegan options! The quality of the food and tea was beyond expectations. The service was above & beyond. They are very organized & it gets busy so it's refreshing to see how well the staff handled things. This is truly the place to live out your Downton Abbey dreams. After tea we grabbed a drink at the bar downstairs and appreciated the architecture of the Dome & of course more Christmas decorations. The building itself has so much history, it was originally owned by the Physicians Hall in the 1700s -- until they went into debt. It was then bought out by The Commercial Bank of Scotland. And eventually now a bar/restaurant/tea lounge for us mere commoners to enjoy. If you're in Edinburgh, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to check this place out!

I've had afternoon tea all over the UK, and I have to say: The Dome is my favorite. Afternoon tea is served daily (12p to 5p) in the Georgian Tea Room. Reservations strongly recommended, and it's £10 per person for your booking - that deposit amount will be deducted from the total bill on your visit. Booking online was easy, and there was an area to indicate any dietary restrictions (The Dome offers both a vegan afternoon tea and an NGCI [gluten-free] afternoon tea!) or special occasion information for them to know about in advance. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted and sent upstairs to the beautifully decorated space where our table was waiting for us. The dress code? All over the place. A couple folks were dressed up, many more folks were dressed in jeans and t-shirts. So: don't worry about what you're wearing. While this place feels quite fancy, they're very welcoming! At the time of visiting, the vegan afternoon tea was £29.50. Adding a glass of bubbles makes it go up between £5 and £7 (which really isn't that much when you think about it); you can also opt in for Tipsy Tea for £58 ("enjoy a cocktail with each tier"). Tier 1 My savory tier featured a vegan sausage roll, and three sandwiches: vegetable and hummus, sundried tomato and basil, artichoke with pea and mint. The sausage roll was golden-brown perfection, and I could have eaten several more of those unashamedly. The sandwiches, though bigger than I've experienced elsewhere, admittedly were just okay. Two of them tasted nearly identical (I'm assuming that whatever they're using in the veggie and hummus are quite similar to the sundried tomato and basil one); the artichoke, pea, and mint one however was light and refreshing and herbaceous! Tier 2 I had a plain scone with vegan cream and jam. It was exactly what I was expecting: the scone was dense, but not dry, and delicious in subtleness! Tier 3 My sweet tier contained a lemon tart, a raspberry mille-feulle, and a strawberry sponge. All very seasonally appropriate, very bright flavors. The lemon tart was my favorite, because it didn't hold back on the citrus flavor and the shell was "buttery"; I loved the abundance of fresh fruit in the mille-feulle and the crispness of the pastry; the strawberry sponge was pillowy and very pink! I saw some people from across several review sites say there wasn't enough food for the price paid. I disagree. I thought it was the perfect amount (we were even encouraged to take home what we couldn't finish!) for a lunch-time meal. Also, the staff was lovely: they were humorous, they were attentive, they expertly communicated every single thing we were eating! Finally, and if you can visit at the holidays: DO SO. It's magical.

The lovely century plus old building is beautifully restored and tastefully updated. If the 3rd floor walk up room might count as a negative for some, at this point in life I appreciate anything that forces even an iota of more of something even suggesting of exercise into my life whatsoever. Staff was uniformly courteous and helpful with my needy jet lagged ass. Unfortunately what you gain in terms of a strategic location, and charm inside the premises, you lose in terms of the immediate view outside of your room. While the building itself and a few spare stragglers like it in the immediate area, as well as the plaque outside indicating that Arthur Conan Doyle's birthplace was in a once existing building across the street, suggest the surrounding few acres were once as lovely and ancient as most of the glorious historic streets of this ridiculously enchanting town, its sadly no longer the case. Somehow this district avoided historic preservation, and in its current stage is pretty much comprised of at least 50 percent active construction zones with gaping holes of torn up streets and massive building footprints. The remaining half of the area is already completed monolithic hideously modern shopping malls of the type I would suspect must already be gravely threatened by online shopping. As distressing as the view outside my window was to view during my short stay here, those stores proved convenient when I needed some adapters and a stop at a nearby apple store, and a mere 5 minute stroll put me firmly in the center of some truly breathtaking scenery. At the end of the day it offers a solid value and friendly hospitality in comfy and low key elegant accommodations in a central, if soulless feeling locale. Oh yeah; and one word of advise: This place oddly apparently has 3D TV sets in at least some of the rooms (which by the way, in a cute touch, are each named after one of Scotland's beloved "loches' aka lakes). Be aware that those glasses are in there for the TV, and do not make the same mistake I did and assume they were novelty son glasses there for the guests to take as souvenirs. I guess the fact that the sun barely ever shines in this country would have been a good indication that they wouldn't be offering gratis shades...womp womp...

What used to be a private members club is set in a tremendous Georgian townhouse set over 3 floors comprising of a restaurant, the main bar, a whisky bar, and four luxurious hotel rooms. The food during normal operating hours is pretty good, could do with fancying down as it's all a bit fiddly with the amount of jars and plates but it's really topnotch. However, we went on a meal deal kinda day but I don't doubt that the food normally might be a wee bit pricey.

People had seen it happen and heard what I said and tried complaining to the bar management and they weren't interested to hear anything, basically seemed like a case of if your face doesn't fit your not welcome.

What makes this place so amazing is the fact that it's in actual caves, with many secret corridors and rooms- all of which are open during the Fringe. The atmosphere is further enhanced by the cool lighting and the dark and heavy furniture and decoration, which anywhere else would look tacky but here it somehow works brilliantly. It certainly has a lead as far as ambiance is concerned and it basically represents one of those clubs that totally sums up the city you are in- it represents what you expect to find from a secret Edinburgh.
