After several disappointing dining experiences elsewhere in the UK, Badger & Co was a refreshing reminder of how exceptional a gastro pub can be. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between cozy and clever, with a unique and humorous Wind in the Willows / Mr. Toad-inspired décor that gives the place real character without feeling gimmicky. The food was absolutely top-notch. Every dish we ordered was clearly made with care, high-quality ingredients, and beautiful presentation. From the Scotsman scallops to the steak pie and desserts like the sticky toffee pudding and cranachan teacake, everything tasted as good as it looked. This is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they send out. The drinks were just as impressive and creative, well balanced, and easily some of the best we've had on this trip. Definitely a place where the bar program matches the strength of the kitchen. Service is where this place truly stands out. Sean and his team created a welcoming environment, and our server William absolutely knocked it out of the park. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being forced, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great experience. Between the incredible food, outstanding drinks, fun atmosphere, and exceptional service, this ended up being one of the best dining experiences of our trip. What a treat finding this pub to welcome us in to town! The space has such a cool easy vibe, staff very friendly, and couldn't speak high enough about everything on the menu. We stopped here for dinner on our day trip before heading to the airport and it was one of the best decisions of the day. The staff was very friendly and were able to sit up promptly even though we did not have a reservation. The drinks we delicious, I decided to stick to a mocktail as we had already had a bit of scotch during the day, the nojito was refreshing. We ordered the Steak and peppercorn pie and fish and chips with a beef tartar for the appetizer. Every was very rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. It did not make me feel heavy after eating and the portions size was favorable for me. Overall this was lovely date night with ambient lighting and soft music. The perfect end to a day in Edinburgh! We came across Badger and & Co only because we serendipitously stayed at a hotel around the corner. And thank goodness we did! This was a great first meal in Edinburgh. We split the beef tartare appetizer, which had an amazing mustard taste. For my main, I ordered the butter poached cod. The cod was perfectly flaky and came in a creamy sauce. It was such a simple dish, but very well made. My husband ordered the burger, which was pretty good as far as burgers go. Solid kids' menu, which was a surprise to this American since Badger & Co is a nicer restaurant and I'm not used to restaurants like this being inclusive of kids. My only regret is that we didn't know about this restaurant beforehand so we could make a reservation and sit indoors. It's quite busy, and for a good reason! read more

Had to try their breakfast since we really liked our lunch food. Same beautiful ambiance, same great service. We were the first ones there at 10am. Their menu is limited, but for what they did have, it was very good. Kids had the sausage and egg croissant sandwich (you could pick from several choices to create your own sandwich). Stopped off at Badger & Co for dinner and was not disappointed! The atmosphere is formal but laid back, with beautiful foliage covered outdoor seating and a tastefully designed interior. The staff were friendly and provided efficient service. The menu was simple and only offered a handful of options as is common with steakhouses. This little space was absolutely darling. I love "Wind in the Willows" and had no idea that was what we were in for. Great ambiance, friendly helpful service, and the food was gob-smackingly delicious. We had the Fish & Chips - tender fresh fish with a crunchy exterior, and great chips. We also had the fresh fish lazily floating in a delicious mussel broth. The veggies were a highlight. The cocktails here are spot on, and so was the mocktail. We LOVED this place! My boyfriend and I needed somewhere relatively close to Princes Street for dinner, and we're so glad we found Badger & Co. It's a homey and warmly lit restaurant that is super charming during the holiday season. We started with the pumpkin soup and glazed pork cheeks to share. HIGHLY recommend the pork cheeks. They are simply wonderful and unique. The pumpkin soup was also perfect for a cold, drizzly day. For our mains, we both ordered the steak and haggis pie and loved them. The true star of the evening was the sticky toffee pudding, however. We each ordered our own, and I'm so glad because sharing went out the window when we took our first bites. The clotted cream ice cream added so much to the experience, and I'll be dreaming about it until we go back. Or the bar area. Like mentioned, we walked in without a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. Started off with a drink while the table was being prepared for us. The restaurant wasn't that big so if it's busy, tables are scarce. But the vibe, decor were beautiful. Large leather tufted seat, beautiful high arched chair and spectacular chandelier. This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We were welcomed warmly and seated right away. The chicken and mushroom pie was truly delicious. The pastry was buttery and the filling well seasoned. One of our party had the ox cheeks and raved about it. The Christmas pudding and brandy sauce really put a nice coda on the evening. My wife had the deconstructed cheese cake, after some hesitation, and declared it the best cheesecake she had ever eaten. We we all very pleased and look forward to returning. read more

Felt the service was quite poor, our server was not very friendly and incredibly soft spoken so it was hard to hear her. Sever was not very attentive either. Ambiance is great--love the decor, it's a very cozy and nostalgic space with warm lighting. It wasn't too loud as well. I was disappointed by the food--ordered a Sunday Roast which was a beef roast. The portion was incredibly small for the price (22.50 pounds). It comes with barely any gravy and only one roasted slice of carrot and one roasted slice of what I think was parsnip. read more

Lovely place with a great vibe. Service was great, very attentive and kind. Food did take quite a bit to come, but they warned about that in the menu. The meals themselves were delicious, I could not recommend the chicken and mushroom pie enough, and the bread was divine, as well as the onion. They also have an amazing range of non-alcoholic cocktails. Make sure to mention if you have allergies, was kind hard for us to find something without fish contamination, but they were extremely thorough with checking and very accommodating as well. Badger & Co was great! My friend and I came after she ran the Edinburgh marathon, and I walked around the city, so we both earned our meals! The Sunday roast sold out early, oh well, so I got a steak and ale pie, and my friend had the fish pie. They were both really good! We made reservations a day in advance on Open Table, and we were seated quickly when we arrived. Service was good, and we got water refills. I also had a ginger beer, a drink I love, that is hard to find in the US. The Scottish ones have so much more bite than regular ginger ale. It is a cute little pub with Wind in the Willows theme, which is fun for two literary nerds. read more

For dinner I got the fish and chips and holy cow the size of the fish was insane. The batter it was breaded in was really good almost like a tempura batter but a bit thicker. The chips were OK, nothing special and the mushy peas were good. This is a fantastic dinner option in new town- all of the food was great! Inside is beautiful and seating is very comfortable. The haddock and potato pie is really tasty- it has large chunks of fish (some fish bones still in) and the top is browned potato mash instead of pastry- it tastes like a warm chowder and it's very filling! Side of edamame and peas is nice. This is £15.25 but tastes really great. Haggis samosas are excellent. They're savory and not gamey tasting at all. Comes with 3 for ~£8. Mussels are cooked expertly- the sauce is buttery but light and the meat is very tender. Great deal at ~£8. Sausage roll is full of pulled pork- super filling and reminiscent of BBQ, it's really tasty and also about ~£8. Also ordered a half pint hard seltzer and a pint of beer, total for the meal was ~£50, not bad for the amount of food. Service was a little slow but everyone was incredibly nice and everything was high quality, plus it's a comfortable place to sit. read more

We were on a quest to find a filling brunch spot that was near our flat, and Badger & Co. delivered. We came midweek midmorning, and there was only one other table of people in the restaurant besides us -- a library quiet type atmosphere that we didn't know whether or not was intentional. My partner got the Vegan Sett (Linda McCartney's vegan sausage, grilled tomato, smashed avocado, flat cap mushroom, baked beans, wilted spinach, sourdough toast) and I went with the citrus smashed avocado on a toasted muffin with poached eggs and hollandaise. Both plates were beautifully presented! He loved every bite of his, and mine hit the spot exactly how I was hoping it was going to. The vegetarian options are limited, but they're executed just perfectly. I regret not trying the Bloody Mary, and I'd be very interested in trying the Badger's Boozy Brunch (available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11a to 4p - a platter of sweet and savory treats and four libations for two to share). My husband and I came here after making reservations on a separate website. First impressions: this place is adorable, funny artwork (depicting cartoon animals looking classy), and very comfy looking seating. We were immediately seated at a table with large leather chairs and plenty of space. We read reviews about service being slow here, but that was not our experience. We had a reasonable pace of service that we were quite happy with. We ordered the mussels and charcuterie starter. We enjoyed the mussels; however the charcuterie left much to be desired. While the 6 or so slices of meat were delicious, the remainder of the board was bread. No cheese on this board and while it indicated there were pickles, it seemed to be a few shreds of something on top of the meat. The mussels were prepared with a red sauce and not super saucy (read: you can't really dip the bread in the juice). The star of the meals were the pot pies. They have 3 options and I choose the fish while my husband choose the chicken. Each was warm, well portioned and soothes the soul. Fantastic option and reasonable price! We also each ordered a cocktail from their extensive menu and were very satisfied with our selection. If you choose to come here, maybe skip the apps (or try different ones) and focus on the delicious pot pies and drinks! read more

Just like the other reviewers have noted, Badger & Co is an excellent spot in central Edinburgh, just off of Prince Street in New Town. We dined with friends and teenage kids on a weekday night and had a delicious meal and lovely evening here. I had the Scallops appetizer, which while small (two scallops) was very tasty and well prepared. For dinner I enjoyed the Venison, which was also prepared perfectly. Service was attentive although we were out of water and wine and no one came by to ask about refilling either. Would love to come back and try some of the other dishes - a great find and would highly recommend. read more

The trip started in London. For five days, we lived in fear as cars rocketed around corners from the opposite side of the road. Danger was looming at every corner. And the service at many of the restaurants was... not as friendly as we were used to. "We weren't meant to be in Uk" we thought, as we bunkered down in our tiny hotel room, just hoping to make it to Scotland alive. And indeed we did. After a long train ride and a few glasses of wine, we made it. Exhausted, we rushed to our hotel and fell asleep, in anxious anticipation of what we would find in the morning. We were ready to battle the streets of Edinburgh; we were experienced in the art of dodging cars at this point after all. But low and behold, we safely crossed the street. In fact, the cars actually stopped for us. Strange. Perhaps it was a fluke. Then we stumbled upon Badger and Co and we realized that Scotland is just a totally different vibe. This place was amazing. The service was wonderful. It was like a breath of fresh air. And the food was phenomenal. Way to totally change the dynamic of our trip, Badger and Co. I'll definitely be back. Fantastic, lively atmosphere with excellent food and service. We arrived a little later than normal and the place was jumping but we managed to get a seat in a few minutes and I'm glad we did! The space is a wonderfully whimsical one, be sure to check out all of the great artwork they have on the walls - it's a great space to spend time in and there's always something interesting to look at. The service is quick and efficient and very friendly and the food came out quickly and piping hot. The menu is pretty trad ( although they go all out with their creative and unusual cocktails) and the quality of the food is excellent. The steak and ale pie is one of the best I've ever had - rich, tender and beautifully seasoned. The fish and chips likewise was excellently cooked and a particular shout out for the mushy peas with mint. Desert was amazing as well and the whole meal was very decently priced. Definitely worth a visit although I will say that it is noisy. If you are in the mood for a quieter evening or hard of hearing then maybe a lunchtime visit is in order. Really great food with wonderful service to match. The restaurant itself was nearly empty on a weeknight, and had a very cozy, comforting sort of feeling. Great for a classy family meal or date. I had a half pint of whatever cider was on tap, along with a steak and ale pie that was absolutely to die for. The crust was so buttery and the filling was steaming hot and so flavorful. I would like to start this review off with how bummed I was I didn't get to sit inside this place, because it's beautiful. The couches and chandeliers and neon sign created the perfect ambience but by no fault of the restaurant (it was my mom's), we ended up outside. Outside on the sidewalk was still pretty great, though, because I got to enjoy some awesome views of Edinburgh Castle while sipping on a sublime cocktail. It had pomegranate seeds and mint and grapefruit and was incredibly delicious. For dinner, I had the gnocchi, which wasn't too dense for my liking, on a bed of spinach which was surprisingly really refreshing. If I ever come back to Edinburgh (which I hope I do), I really want to come back--sipping one of those cocktails again, this time inside the beautiful restaurant, will be a long-held dream of mine. read more
