This place is a gem! My son actually craving tortellini which made me turn to Yelp! Once again, Yelp came through. We ended up at Pizza D'Oro where he got his fix and I ordered a cheese pizza. My pizza was strategic. I had something I would eat and a backup in case my son didn't like his food. Well, that was a non-issue. He ate ALL of his tortellini and then a piece of pizza. He said he loved his food - and so did I. The staff were VERY friendly and checked on us regularly. I could tell that they had a lot of regulars at the place as some folks came in, sat, and ordered without a menu. The place is mostly small and not loud. Today tho, I called in to order, and had a few questions. The lady working the phone said it was only her today, and she was busy. She told me to look online and call back to order... usually the owner is here and helps out. They must of been short staffed. Very disappointed in this service. I ordered and paid for two pizzas on a Monday for a meeting nearby that was to begin at 11 AM on a Friday. They open at 10:30 AM and the timing would be great if they could have it a few minutes before the meeting. A few other nearby pizza places opened at 11 AM and I didn't want to be late. So the start time is a score! Sure enough the pizzas were both ready and waiting super hot at 10:45 on a Friday. The cashier gave me some cheese topping and chili flakes and I was off. I ordered a medium pepperoni and a medium barbecue chicken, something a some of the other places didn't have available. They were so big that they barely fit in the medium boxes which supposedly fed 6-8 people each. Most of the two pizzas were gone with 10 people. Seems like the BBQ chicken was the more popular; it had the right combination of sweet and tangy sauce and bits of chicken though people also liked the pepperoni. They didn't skimp on the meat or cheese. I also loved that it was a mom and pop shop and price was about $25 each (though I really don't remember). All I know is that it was a great choice for a great meeting. Customer service was friendly, too with the cashier explaining the pizzas. On Friday - day of the event - I texted them to get a status on what time for pick up, and in a couple of minutes texting me back. Definitely a good find. Just dined in here for the first time and man oh man this place only gets better!! When picking up I always notice the inside is pretty packed and the food always looks so great so we decided let's go eat there. We decided to skip pizza and take advantage of the chicken parm deal and a rigatoni dish and these were incredible. The portion of the chicken parm was insane we packed it up to go home with us. The cutlet was juicy, crispy, covered in cheese and sauce, the spaghetti was perfect with a nice tasty meat sauce. The salad to start was also perfect I must add. Today my Wife and I wanted lunch, so we went to a spot our family love for dinner's, but we've never had luch at My wife had a baked pasta dish, with a meat ball a meat sauce. It was very good, as expected for dinner. I tried the mixed ravioli meat and cheese. I felt the pasta a little under cooked, but the meat sauce was very good. The filling was not enough to really taste it, the filling in both the cheese and meat, really needs to be increased to make them better. We also had cannoli, the filling was nice, the chocolate was good and plentiful; but was missing something. Most cannoli has almond extract, or Italian amaretto in the filling. I cannot believe how delicious the pizzas are. I'm not even a pizza fan but we came here with the group, I tried the giant slice vegetarian pizza and my friends pepperoni giant Slice Pizza. I love how the toppings was extremely generous and the pizza crust was crispy and not too thick and doughy like most Pizza places. I was barely able to finish a third of my giant Slice Pizza which was double the size of my hand. The value for the money was incredible. The food was extremely fresh and made to order. Thought I'd take the time to applaud an excellent experience to start my weekend. I'm in the area for work on Friday, midday, looking for a bite to eat. I let him know I'm picking up a slice and he immediately heads back to check on it. He comes back with my slice and ask if I'd like a salad. (Free of charge) I thought it was such a simple, kind and generous offering. In today's climate with so many people, businesses, etc, being essentially on 'autopilot', it was nice to experience personal touch and warm smile over greed and the numbers game. Met a couple of friends here to celebrate a birthday and although it's a pretty small place, the staff is very friendly and the service was great. Def gives it a more intimate vibe. This wasn't the best of nights for my favorite family Italian restaurant. I've been coming here for years but this was an off night. There appeared to be having a youth pizza party and the kids and their families had taken over this very small restaurant. The kids and families were so loud I gave up trying to have a conversation with my wife. It looked like the owner was supervising the party but that didn't change anything. I remember in the distant past my children attending youth pizza parties but never at a very small restaurant. Maybe in the future it would make sense to close down your restaurant for such an event. Additionally, one of the best sausage sandwich could be had here but not on this night. The sausage tasted like overcooked meat but not Italian sausage and it was very dry. My fiancé and I were looking for a local Italian spot to try since we are semi new to Costa Mesa. The first time we tried this place we ordered a pizza with pepperoni and mushroom which was really good. Then we decided to try their sub sandwiches my fiancé got a " meatball" which didn't taste or look like actual meatballs, not to mention the flavorless marinara.
