After scanning the menus of restaurants like School Food, Bene and Parkview, I decided that the lunch set menu at Pizza Express looked the best. Since it was lunchtime, Pizza Express was full (as were most of the restaurants there), so I had to join the others waiting outside and take a number. Our number was about fifteen away from the number it currently was, but surprisingly it didn't take that long - a little over ten minutes later, I was given a table. My friend still hadn't arrived, and I was glad when they let me in anyway and didn't say that the entire party must be present before being given the table. My friend and I both got the light lunch set, which includes a main and a drink. We decided to get different mains each and share between the two of us, and we mutually agreed on the margherita pizza and the salmon farfalle. For drinks, my friend got the raspberry cooler and I got the lemonade. The drinks arrived almost immediately after we ordered them - my friend's raspberry cooler was really refreshing and sweet, and my lemonade was super sour! It was definitely the sourest lemonade I'd ever tasted - well, the sourest drink I'd ever had, period! I liked it though, because I really love things that taste sour. The food didn't take long to get here. The margherita pizza came in one round piece and we split it in two to share. The pizza was really good - it was a thin-crust, so it was light, and it was nice and cheesy. The salmon pasta was pretty good too - they were generous enough with the salmon, and the pasta was really creamy. I was no doubt happy with the food, but not so happy with the portions! The pizza and the pasta were both pretty small, and I was still left feeling a little hungry after it all. I can definitely see myself back here again - and when I am, I'll be sure to order the executive lunch set, which includes an appetizer!

Dining options at New Town Plaza are aplenty, ranging from Shanghainese (Din Tai Fung, Crystal…read moreJade) to Korean (School Food) to western-inspired Japanese cafes (UCC, Pokka). If you're in the mood for Italian food, and authenticity isn't something you particularly care about, then give Spaghetti House a go. I love the interior of Spaghetti House - it's a little dim but everything about it looks very warm. The stained-glass ceiling lamps add a colorful but subtle touch to the restaurant and makes the place look more upscale than it prices suggest it to be. I was here for lunch with a friend the other day. We were here pretty early -around 12:15 - and it was a Tuesday, so we didn't have issues getting a table. The lunch set sounded pretty good, with choices of main courses including pizza, noodle, salad and the rest of it, being the Spaghetti House, different kinds of spaghetti. The soup of the day was mushroom soup, and while I adore mushroom soup, I decided to add $9 to upgrade to the lobster bisque with scallops. $9 isn't a lot to add for lobster bisque, so I figured why not? My friend did the same. The lobster soup was actually really good - very creamy, and there were a couple of pieces of lobster meat inside, although I'm pretty sure that some, if not all of it, was imitation lobster. The scallops were pretty good. And then our main courses - my spaghetti bolognaise and my friend's linguine with beef ribs and red wine sauce - came. I quite liked my spaghetti and found the sauce thick and meaty. There was enough of the sauce to go around with the spaghetti - nothing annoys me more than when they skimp on the bolognese sauce! My friend complained that her beef was a little hard though. Our sets came with a drink and I got hot coffee while my friend got the iced lemon tea. I wasn't too impressed with the coffee because it was too strong and bitter for my liking. Overall, this is a good place to come to for lunch if you're at New Town Plaza. The lunch sets are quite affordable and my meal set me back just under $90, which is pretty good considering I left feeling very full and satisfied with the food. Just a word of caution that if you come a little later - or worse still, if you're here on a weekend, you're going to have to wait for a table! If you don't have much time to spare, I would advise you to get numbers from the different restaurants on the same floor and just go for whichever one calls your number first.

Normally, I wouldn't have chosen…read morepasta, but we were really hungry and went for the place that seemed to have the shortest line (we ended up waiting 20 minutes anyway). We started with their 5 Stars Platter appetizer. The crispy spring roll was excellent and reminded me of a deep fried scallion pancake. The rest of the platter wasn't well prepared. The french fries were cold and soggy; the chicken wings were dry and overcooked. There was a fried mushroom thing that I didn't realize had mushrooms until I reread the menu. Stay away from this platter. The main courses were redeeming. The squid ink pasta was acceptable, but the accompanying scallops were cooked perfectly. Be forewarned that the seafood is rather tiny. Tasty as they were, the scallops were the diameter of a U.S. dime (about 17 mm). My wife's baked spaghetti with shrimp was also pretty good, with nice al dente noodles in a savory cheesy sauce. The surprise was my daughter's cheese pizza, which rivalled some of our favorite places in Los Angeles. The cheese was burnt just enough to impart a gooey crust atop a spicy-sweet pizza sauce. And the crust! It was satisfyingly crunchy with a hint of saltiness. And nary was a drop of grease to be found. Maybe we had very low expectations, but regardless, my wife and I were genuinely surprised at how good the pizza tasted. Finally, despite this being a western restaurant, the service was more typical of a Chinese restaurant. That is, you have to flag a waiter down for every little thing (such as giving your order). I'm torn between a 3 and a 4, but lean towards the lower mark due to poor appetizer, tasty-but-tiny scallops, and service.

Christmas is just around the corner, how are you gonna celebrate it? What about some Christmas log…read morecakes? @valeriepastry spreads its wings and makes some of the best log cakes in town, one of them is their Matcha log cake. Rolled in the matcha sponge cake, the matcha cream was extraordinarily good that we almost lick the plate! It was quite thick, rich, dense with a pronounced bitterness from the matcha, each slice of it gave a very intense kick of matcha. Flavoring was really nice but it would have been even better if the cream was lighter and more airy. Matcha flavor of the sponge was not as heavy as the cream. It was very moist that went almost a bit mushy, would have been better if it was softer, and more fluffier. Oh and have you noticed there were a chocolate ball on the top? There were also some matcha jello cubes inside! One cake is good, but two is even better! Other than matcha, Valérie also has their log cakes in chocolate. The Chocolate-All-In-One is perfect for chocolate lovers. Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate sponge cake, Chocolate brownie, Chocolate crisp, Chocolate crispy pearl, I'd call this chocolate overload. Valrhona chocolate mousse was dense, thick and a bit heavy. Good that it was neither too sweet nor sugary, making it a delightful dessert after the meal. It was also nice that there was a layer of passion fruit puree in between all those chocolates, balancing the sweetness. The sponge was kinda dry though, would have been better if it was moister and more airy. We like how there was layer of chocolate crisp in the cake, giving some crunchiness to the cake and making it more scrumptious!
