To get there from New Town Plaza, simply exit at the first floor (where all the restaurants are), walk up the steps and go straight into the Town Hall. My mother and I were here for the first time for tea the other day. A cake set including a drink adds up to $45, and there's no service charge, so it is quite a bit cheaper than other cafés. The downside is that there were only three types of cakes - tiramisu, Neapolitan and apple tart, but the upside is that they brew Starbucks coffee! This makes their set a really good value because getting a drink at Starbucks would set you back at least $30 already. Although the variety of cakes is limited, you'll be pleased to know that they're of a pretty good size. Especially my mother's Neapolitan - it was about twice the size of regular artisanal cakes that you would get elsewhere. The Neapolitan is loose yet very crunchy, and not overly sweet. My tiramisu was not as big and unfortunately didn't have much of a coffee taste, but was soft and creamy nonetheless. We were there at around 5pm on a Friday and had no issues finding a seat. Besides cakes, they also serve waffles with (Haagen Dazs!) ice cream, hot dogs and salad. They do lunch sets too. One thing though is that there is faint Chinese opera music not from the cafe, but from the speakers around the Town Hall. It's not super loud but if you have really sensitive ears and are not one for high pitched Chinese opera tunes, this may bother you!

Nonetheless, they allow you to get drinks inside and take them to the outdoor area. And they (surprisingly) did not complain about some in our group bringing drinks from outside. Went back again during the day and they have decently priced lunch sets. The food ranges from below average to above average depending on the dish you choose. One thing to note is the size of their items are pretty large. Not the serving but the ingredients. Environment was also pretty nice and service was pretty good.

Ambiance/decor-2 Service-3…read moreFood-4 Strikeouts-2/3 From Sha tin station, you would have to walk the overpass and make sure you stay on the left side of you want to get here. Strictly speaking, this restaurant made two crucial errors, one, there was caterpillar in my salad. They obviously didn't wash thorough enough. Second, I was polite enough to tell them without causing a scene and I got no apology nor compensation. I don't need to ask for it, the employees should know either I should know to at least apologize or waive the fee of my $6 salad. Nope neither. Lost two stars in my book. Aside from that, the decor inside is very basic western style, paper tops for quick changes and wooden chairs. Good for Hong Kong people who are typically skinny, but definitely not the most comfortable for an average North American man. Food wise, I thought the salad was a bit on the tangy side, and probably needed the balsamic to be spread more evenly, but do I expect, there was a caterpillar there. The person in charge of the entree did good though. Salmon was done well, but for my palette, I like it a bit more on the rare side, but still tasted great. The spaghetti was the best part of the meal, definitely get that I you do choose to come. This place has so much potential, but man, that service really irritates me.

Dining options at New Town Plaza are aplenty, ranging from Shanghainese (Din Tai Fung, Crystal…read moreJade) to Korean (School Food) to western-inspired Japanese cafes (UCC, Pokka). If you're in the mood for Italian food, and authenticity isn't something you particularly care about, then give Spaghetti House a go. I love the interior of Spaghetti House - it's a little dim but everything about it looks very warm. The stained-glass ceiling lamps add a colorful but subtle touch to the restaurant and makes the place look more upscale than it prices suggest it to be. I was here for lunch with a friend the other day. We were here pretty early -around 12:15 - and it was a Tuesday, so we didn't have issues getting a table. The lunch set sounded pretty good, with choices of main courses including pizza, noodle, salad and the rest of it, being the Spaghetti House, different kinds of spaghetti. The soup of the day was mushroom soup, and while I adore mushroom soup, I decided to add $9 to upgrade to the lobster bisque with scallops. $9 isn't a lot to add for lobster bisque, so I figured why not? My friend did the same. The lobster soup was actually really good - very creamy, and there were a couple of pieces of lobster meat inside, although I'm pretty sure that some, if not all of it, was imitation lobster. The scallops were pretty good. And then our main courses - my spaghetti bolognaise and my friend's linguine with beef ribs and red wine sauce - came. I quite liked my spaghetti and found the sauce thick and meaty. There was enough of the sauce to go around with the spaghetti - nothing annoys me more than when they skimp on the bolognese sauce! My friend complained that her beef was a little hard though. Our sets came with a drink and I got hot coffee while my friend got the iced lemon tea. I wasn't too impressed with the coffee because it was too strong and bitter for my liking. Overall, this is a good place to come to for lunch if you're at New Town Plaza. The lunch sets are quite affordable and my meal set me back just under $90, which is pretty good considering I left feeling very full and satisfied with the food. Just a word of caution that if you come a little later - or worse still, if you're here on a weekend, you're going to have to wait for a table! If you don't have much time to spare, I would advise you to get numbers from the different restaurants on the same floor and just go for whichever one calls your number first.

We started with their 5 Stars Platter appetizer. The crispy spring roll was excellent and reminded me of a deep fried scallion pancake. The rest of the platter wasn't well prepared. The french fries were cold and soggy; the chicken wings were dry and overcooked. There was a fried mushroom thing that I didn't realize had mushrooms until I reread the menu. Stay away from this platter. The main courses were redeeming. The squid ink pasta was acceptable, but the accompanying scallops were cooked perfectly. Be forewarned that the seafood is rather tiny. Tasty as they were, the scallops were the diameter of a U.S. dime (about 17 mm). My wife's baked spaghetti with shrimp was also pretty good, with nice al dente noodles in a savory cheesy sauce. The surprise was my daughter's cheese pizza, which rivalled some of our favorite places in Los Angeles. The cheese was burnt just enough to impart a gooey crust atop a spicy-sweet pizza sauce. And the crust! It was satisfyingly crunchy with a hint of saltiness. And nary was a drop of grease to be found. Maybe we had very low expectations, but regardless, my wife and I were genuinely surprised at how good the pizza tasted. Finally, despite this being a western restaurant, the service was more typical of a Chinese restaurant. That is, you have to flag a waiter down for every little thing (such as giving your order). I'm torn between a 3 and a 4, but lean towards the lower mark due to poor appetizer, tasty-but-tiny scallops, and service.

We arrived around 8:45 without a reservation, got to the reception and were treated quite impolitely. The receptionist was rude when giving out a number to us. Told us we were no.36 while the next number to be called was no.15, and told us we need to wait outside. She couldn't tell us how long the wait would be. Although the message was informative, the tone of it was rude and unwelcoming. We saw there were only a few others waiting so we decided to wait. Soon enough we were seated before 9pm, probably most of no.15 thru 35 were turned away by the receptionist. Then the hostess seated us without any greetings. We ordered the Ravioli, Chicken Parmesan, and creamy baked potato chips. To our surprise the ravioli were served before we got our bread. Didn't mind the surprise at all coz it was quite delicious. The creamy tomato sauce was just right and very tasty. Then we got the baked potato chips, and our water soon after. Had to ask our server for bread again and got an impatience response. Then finally got our bread and Chicken Parmesan. The Chicken Parmesan was great! Portions were big but the two of us managed to chuck it all. The restaurant was very busy. We had to wait for a while for water refill and to get the bill. Overall, great food but poor service! Turned off by bad attitude receptionist and hostess, servers were just too busy to take care of too many tables.
