After scanning the menus of restaurants like School Food, Bene and Parkview, I decided that the lunch set menu at Pizza Express looked the best. Since it was lunchtime, Pizza Express was full (as were most of the restaurants there), so I had to join the others waiting outside and take a number. Our number was about fifteen away from the number it currently was, but surprisingly it didn't take that long - a little over ten minutes later, I was given a table. My friend still hadn't arrived, and I was glad when they let me in anyway and didn't say that the entire party must be present before being given the table. My friend and I both got the light lunch set, which includes a main and a drink. We decided to get different mains each and share between the two of us, and we mutually agreed on the margherita pizza and the salmon farfalle. For drinks, my friend got the raspberry cooler and I got the lemonade. The drinks arrived almost immediately after we ordered them - my friend's raspberry cooler was really refreshing and sweet, and my lemonade was super sour! It was definitely the sourest lemonade I'd ever tasted - well, the sourest drink I'd ever had, period! I liked it though, because I really love things that taste sour. The food didn't take long to get here. The margherita pizza came in one round piece and we split it in two to share. The pizza was really good - it was a thin-crust, so it was light, and it was nice and cheesy. The salmon pasta was pretty good too - they were generous enough with the salmon, and the pasta was really creamy. I was no doubt happy with the food, but not so happy with the portions! The pizza and the pasta were both pretty small, and I was still left feeling a little hungry after it all. I can definitely see myself back here again - and when I am, I'll be sure to order the executive lunch set, which includes an appetizer!

However, for folks living in Hong Kong who are too desperate to care, it has become a de-facto option, which is made easier by virtue of being a local chain. I have been on both ends of this spectrum and I still cringe at the thought of settling for any of their pies, let alone a slice. Out of all the locations, this Paisano's stands out for being open late and having prime location along Hollywood Road. Drunken expats are usually in here hamming it up for a slice or two and I am sad to say that I've been amongst this crowd before. There would be lines out of the door on any given weekend late night and a steady flow of peeps chowing away during the day. I give them props for having very large portions. Their large pizza pie (24 inches) is massive, even for American standards. It doesn't come cheap either, which at 230-340HKD (#1) is not exactly a great deal. While the pizza is thin enough to be folded like a true New York slice, the rest of it is a tough sell. It's doughy, laden with a bland sauce, and a kind of greasy cheese that doesn't scream quality at all. It's heavy stuff, which works for the gut bomb that drunkenness can create but is not pleasurable by any means. To add to the mediocrity, I've been disappointed with their subs, which range from 70-85HKD for a 12 inch. Portion wise it's packed, but unfortunately it's less protein and lots of lettuce, tomato, olives, and a slathering of mayo + some house sauce. The calzones don't fare much better, which steeped in cheese but is greasy and still incredibly bland. The late night service is super lackluster and I've found a little more civility in the daytime group. I've learned the brand is popular with the Nepalese community in HK and as a result much of the staff is fluent in Nepali (#2) but not so much in Canto. Pretty fairly priced this place is right off of the waterfront and so it has that benefit.
