Every year on my trips to Hilo, it is a tradition for me to eat at Pizza Ala Slice. Staff always had a good attitude and is friendly. Their pizza is my favorite, the bread is really fluffy and the cheese tastes good. The restaurant has an ordering counter and a couple of tables to eat at, along with the mall's tables to eat at. Gyro in Hilo!? How did I just find this out!? Glad I did! Was yummy and a pleasant surprise. Gyro was $14.62, so kinda pricey, but portion was decent and meat, veg-lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and red onions fresh, and the sauce was tasty and perfect complement. My daughter Malia is turning 10 on July 4th. She has been enjoying your nostalgic spaghetti for most her life. For those with picky eaters you have your kids try this place. For Hilo Mall food this place is decent. My daughter insists on a 5 star rating so I'm leaving it. I love this place because it's the only place to get an gyro on island (that I am aware of). Kohala Burger on the Kona side used to do an gyro special on Thursdays, but I haven't been there in a while. They use Kronos spiced lamb for the gyro meat. The one I ate for dinner came with julienne cucumbers, romaine heart lettuce, copious cubed tomatoes, halved red onion rings, on a always fresh pita. The tzatziki is curiously thick and delicious, and always served on the side. Greek purists may disagree, but this is all we have. Fresh and good value at just under $10 with tax. Great place to get a slice of pizza, spaghetti or gyros! However, customer service wasn't that great on my most recent visit. I was over charged and the cashier argued instead of verifying her calculation. She refused to be accountable for her mistake and never apologized to me. I'm glad another worker assisted the cashier to resolve the situation. Soon after, the boss arrived to confirm that the charges have been corrected. I hope they will consider providing customer service training, so this doesn't happen to other customers. It was very frustrating because of how the situation was handled... In any case, their food is pretty good, so I will probably return in the near future. read more

This place is amazing. Their gyros are good and the pizza is worth the price. This time around I got the Greek Pita Pizza and the cheesy breadsticks. My order came up to $10, which is a little pricey yeah, but for the amount of food I got it was totally worth it. I could only eat half so I saved the rest for dinner. Even when heated up in the microwave the cheesey goodness was still mouthwatering and delicious. Known for their pizzas and gyros! They are a MUST TRY!!! Their pizza dough is so yummy. They offer combo meals which is any slice of pizza (cheese, pepperoni, supreme) with a salad (dressing of your choice) and a drink for under $8. Score!!! I'm not to sure where else they sell gyros on this island so I'm glad this place does because I seem to crave gyros a lot ! Food is decent. The pizzas most of the time have little pools of oil on top of them. Good pizza does not have that. Their Gyros are not the best but if you're desperate enough then go for it. Their tables don't look like they could handle the weight of a whole pizza. Their chairs don't belong on a tile floor. They need to get way better looking chairs and tables and wipe up down every time. It ridiculous. They serve on styrofoam plates and that's horrible, it's a carcinogenic and it's not good for the aina. Get paper or those cardboard looking plates. They seriously need to step up their game of food and their store's atmosphere. It's terrible. read more

What place in Hilo that sells gyros? This one. I decided to try out this place after a friend of mine, Michelle, recommended it to me. A regular gyro sandwich is priced at $7.50. Eh, it's Hilo and no one really knows how to price their products well enough. I ordered an gyro (I even pronounced it the traditional Greek pronunciation) and the cashier corrected me by saying "JAI-ROW." Whatever. Food came out fairly quick. It already comes with tzatziki sauce! I thought they wouldn't know what that is! Just too bad my gyro didn't come with greens. Just the meat, pita bread, red onions and tomatoes. Took a bite, felt like NYC street gyros are better. 3 stars for this establishment. Pizza A La Slice is trying to sell Greek food, maybe they should stick to Italian food. This is a pizza stand in the mall not a Chicago pizzeria, yet the pizza kicks any fast food pizza joint in the butt. The owner is a super nice man and really cares about making a good pizza. Very upset over a $8 ham and cheese sandwich from Pizza Ala Slice. First of all, we took it home and only to find NO cheese in it. Barely any ham, just a thin slice of cold cut ham, and a fat piece of lettuce. What a rip off!!!!!!!! They also charge you extra if you want a container of any kind including for a pizza! I can't even believe no one wrote a review for this place yet! I love their greasy pizza! It's the closest thing you'll get to county fair pizza (which I love). It's great because I can get pizza by the slice, and really cheap caesar salad, which is really, really good. I'd like to know exactly what kind of dressing they use because I really cant find anything that comes close to it. They also make whole pizzas, and its really fast too! They have very fast friendly service, and the asian man that works there is super nice! I go to the mall just to eat there. Good pizza, good salad, goes great with a strawberry Icee.
