This review is for reheated slices only. I've been here twice and picked up a slice to go. I've then taken it home and reheated them in my airfryer. One was their white pie and the other was a pepperoni slice. Both were good. The crust is really good. It's definitely NY style. I have a feeling when I order a whole pie and eat a slice hot out of the oven, my stars will go up. Both times I've been here all of the staff members have been great. This is our second time ordering takeout here. We aren't from this area, but visit often (have a kid in college close). This is the best NY Style Pizza we have found in the Charleston area. The crust is fantastic - thin NY foldable crust. The sauce is the perfect balance of sweet with a touch of acidity. And yes, they know how to do extra cheese without going overboard. We also ordered a side of garlic knots - so pillowy and had a perfect amount of garlic, oil and herbs. Again, our kid goes to school locally, and after our second time ordering from here in the last year, this is now our "go to" spot for pizza. We will be back! Stopped in last night with my kids. We all had slices. My youngest had pepperoni, my daughter had cheese, and I had a slice of white, meat lovers, and Sicilian, and we dined in. The pizza claims to be New York style and it's mostly there? The crust is right. But the rest of it feels off. It's not greasy like a New York pizza. My slice of Sicilian didn't have olive oil on the crust like it's supposed to, my white pizza had zero garlic taste. The form was well done but the execution was off. I was also really stunned by the prices, slices at $3.68 and up is a lot, it's literally cheaper in New York City. On top of that despite charging a mint for a fountain drink, they are charging $1 for refills. I can't remember the last time I was at a place where I could serve myself a fountain drink and refills were paid for, and when you charge this much for a drink or a slice of pizza, it would be OK to give free refills in my book. Staff and service was friendly and fast, place was clean on the inside and about the same as any other pizza place. Please keep in mind, the pizza itself was fine. But I felt it was kind of swing and miss on actual, authentic New York City pizza, and I say this as someone born there, worked there, and regularly goes there, and the lack of flavor on the Sicilian and white slices was disappointing, as is the price. Mama Mia! This is the best NY Style Pizza in Charleston, hands down. Having grown up eating pizza in Brooklyn, I've been on the hunt since moving down here twelve years ago. They even have Uncle Louie G Italian Ice. Heaven. The pizza was crispy and folded beautifully. The sauce to cheese ratio was perfection. Being able to get it by the slice, even better. The prices are hella reasonable and they have great specials during the week. The employees were all so welcoming and knew a lot of customers who came in, so seeing repeat people is a really good sign. They were very polite and enjoyed conversation with everyone. We stayed to eat there and the environment didn't make us feel cramped or rushed. We felt at home. Definitely recommend going to check it out! read more

Pizza A Modo Mio is one of my favorite pizza places. The owner Mike is very friendly and very involved in helping the local community. His cheese pizza took sixth place in an international pizza competition in Vegas. I didn't want to write my review based on one experience, so my wife and I have ordered a number of items over the last few months. Up first is the loaded garlic knots which offered a generous coating of Mike's signature sauce and absolutely as the name says loaded with ooey gooey mozzarella cheese. So hard not to fill up on just these. Then there is the Hot Roni pie covered in perfectly cooked cup pepperoni and drizzled with pepper infused hot honey which hits all the great flavor notes. Spicy, sweet and savory on a perfectly light and crispy New York crust it's a crowd pleaser. The meat lovers offer pepperoni, sausage and meatballs which are is grandma's recipe. You can tell the meats are high quality and despite all the meat the pizza was not the least bit greasy. Ou absolute favorite pie here is the White pizza. Cheesy and rich and finally a pie that doesn't hold back on the ricotta giving you ricotta in every bite! The Calzone here is baked to a golden brown, we added pepperoni and meatball, and like the White pizza was very generous with the ricotta cheese. We split one and were quite full afterward. I had to try the meatball parm as I have been missing a good one since Philly's closed in Summerville. I am happy to report that this on was just as good if not better, loaded with his grandma's meatballs which have a great spice profile and of course lots a yummy cheese on top, a must try! He recently started offering NY bagels in the morning and at $3.50 for a fresh chewy bagel loaded with specialty cream cheese is a great way to nab an inexpensive breakfast. They offer a lunch special with two regular slices with a drink for $7.95 and two specialty slices and a drink for $9.95. So, whether you just want some slices or are looking to take the family out for a pizza feast definitely go to Pizza A Modo Mio! read more

This side of West Ashley needed a pizza-by-the-slice option for lunch, and Pizza a Modo Mio did not disappoint. I like that I can stop in for a quick slice, especially just after noon when the pizzas are placed in the case. The workers do heat the slices in the oven as well, and they taste fresh. On my latest visit, I had a Sicilian slice, which was around $4 and very filling. If you have meetings after lunch and need to stay awake, you might want to opt for a NY Slice because it's lighter. The case has quite a few choices, from white pizza to meat lovers, and you can also purchase pizzas, sandwiches, and salads off the menu at lunch. If you live or work near Shadowmoss or Grand Oaks, this is a great spot for pizza without having to drive far or wait a long time. read more

This is probably the best pizza place I've had in South Carolina. I can't recommend it enough.

I left this review on Google, but the owner's lack of professionalism has led me to post here as well. The pizza here is good and we make the drive all the way from Summerville but service has gone down since opening other new locations. For example, long wait times on the phone, sub par service from employees and we recently saw an employee walk out from the bathroom without washing their hands after. From what I'm aware they are supposed to wash their hands after walking out from using the bathroom and touching doorknobs. The owners Google response claiming this concern for food safety is "ridiculous" is very concerning. We still decided to keep coming here despite that. However after our last interaction we won't be back. We check their social media before making the 30 minute drive down there because we have seen them close for various occasions. When we called to place an order we were immediately put on hold, with no greeting, for 10 minutes then hung up on. We heard someone talking, and we thought it was an accident so we called back and same thing, immediately put on hold for 15 minutes until someone finally answers and said they've been closed all day. By the time we heard this, we were about five minutes out so we decided to drive down there anyways to figure out our next plan. There was a sign on the door and all lights were out. We checked all their social media platforms- Facebook, Instagram, and local fb pages again to see if we missed a post about them being closed and could not find a single post about it. We thought this was odd so we directly reached out to Mike the owner. His responses were rude. He was defensive instead of showing empathy for a customer. We asked genuinely where he posted about it being closed so we could be aware for next time we want to order from them and he said you want me to prove it and sent an image that he made and apparently posted to their social media, but claims he deleted so people wouldn't get confused. Either he is lying to and gaslighting us or that is bad practice to remove a post before their normal operating hours even ended. I looked back and seen other posts about them being closed still up, so I have no idea why they would have deleted this one off all their pages before the business day even ended. Either way, the situation and his responses were unprofessional and because of that, we will no longer be customers of this establishment. His response to social media after the fact, even calling me a Karen and saying customers aren't always right was even more unprofessional. I'm not sure what's funny about him treating customers like he did. This review is not because we went when they were closed, it's about how they handled the whole situation. We love supporting small businesses and local food establishments so it's a shame there was such a lack of customer service here. read more

The pizza is great! I love that the dough comes from NY! There's something in the NY water that makes pizza that much better. The mushrooms are fresh and the grilled chicken is cooked to perfection. I've passed Modo Mia for many years but have never stopped. When I saw an ad on FB that they were selling real NY bagels I stopped in and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't earlier . Great people !! Great bagels, so I went back for the lunch pizza special...it was just as good with a fantastic selection of pizza by the slice. If you need a bagel or pizza fix ...run don't walk to Moda Mio...hack..if you want a beer or wine you can go next door to Lowe's Foods and bring your own. Recently came to celebrate my birthday with my former patrol partner. We hit a pizza place each month and Yelp them or Google review. Tonight I had a traditional pepperoni slice and a pepperoni pinwheel. The slice was delicious. It had minimal flop and very tasty. I'm a transplant from the west coast where there are amazing pizza parlors. This stuff here competes with the best. The slice was actually better than Antonio's on Dorchester and it beats Brooklyn South. The pinwheel was awesome and quite possibly one of my favorite pizza products. It's worth the drive from Summerville. The only negative was it was just too cold in the lobby area, but hey, not worth avoiding, treat it like a movie theater and bring a hoodie if you're worried. I recently moved from New York and was excited to try Pizza A Modo Mio after hearing it described as a NY-style pizza spot. Unfortunately, the experience fell very short. I came in with my sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and my 1-year-old son. We ordered a plain cheese pizza to eat in and an order of garlic knots. The restaurant was quiet--only two other tables, each with a single guest--so we didn't expect a long wait. The garlic knots came out in a reasonable amount of time, but after about 25 minutes we were still waiting on our pizza. The owner walked in, picked up an order, noticed us waiting, and asked what we were there for. When we told him we were waiting on a cheese pie, he checked with the staff and discovered it had been sitting on top of the oven. He told them to throw it back in, wished us a good night, and left. At no point had the staff member who took our order checked in with us. After nearly 30 minutes total with no pizza and no communication, we asked to get the order to go. At that point, the staff became passive-aggressive, tossed the pizza box onto the counter, and shouted at us as we were leaving. When we opened the box, the pizza was completely curled and clearly overcooked. Between the lack of customer service, the attitude from staff, and the quality of the food, this was nothing like the NY-style experience we were hoping for. read more

Just not a fan. We ordered 2 pizzas and the Jalapeño poppers. First bite was a popper...expecting a traditional flavor of cream cheese...instead a mouthful of not melted or even warm cheddar. This place just opened where ladles used to be in West Ashley. We have needed a NY style place near us! So excited to welcome them! You can get by the slice or order off their very extensive menu! We went yesterday during their soft opening because we had the babes with us, and had friends join. Their friend opening was today and we know they are getting killed! (In a good way) their staff is still new and learning, so be patient. The owner Mike is awesome, lives local but is from the North as am I, and you just know a few things are just better up North, Chinese food, bagels and Italian food! Lolll!! We tried (not shown) the meat lovers pizza, I'm usually not a fan of meaty pizza but theirs was awesome and I'd definitely get it again. And the garlic knots, and then shown is a slice of chicken parm pizza and the chicken parm (grindah) hoagie! First off, he has the dough shipped from NY! And then the bread used for the hoagie was out of this world! The marinara was delicious and the cheese is wicked fresh! You can just tell everything is made with love. How do you describe great pizza in 4 words? "Pizza A Modo Mio" My wife and I were in town for a convention and stopped into this little gem for some take out. First of all, when you walk in the aromas in that room are amazing. We placed our order (although it was hard to pick just 1 or 2 things, everything looked so dang good). I ordered the pizza (18 inch) with pepperoni & onions. My wife ordered some different slices of pizza and an order of garlic knots. Everyone working behind the counter were pleasant and personable. I got to talk to the owner (Mike) and his manager (Pete). Boy, you could tell these guys were from New York lol. We grabbed our food, paid the cashier and we were off to the hotel to dive in. The pizza was traditional New York style. Thin slices that were full of flavor even with just 2 toppings. The sauce was amazing and the pizza crust...mmmmm. The garlic knots - well....let's just say they didn't last long. Buttery, garlicy and soft. Sooooo good When we are back in town, we will definitely be stopping here again. We visited today for the first time even though we live within walking distance. The atmosphere is really nice, they are going for the New York Vibe. My husband is from NY and we actually just got back from there for a visit. We ordered some of the Pizza by the slices. They had one that I have never seen or even heard of, Pickle Pizza. I had to try it. I love Pickles. It was pretty decent. Not bad at all. The son got the Meat pizza, husband and I both got a Buffalo Chicken Slice. I hated the sauce on it. I ended up throwing it away. Then I asked them what kind of sauce it was and she told me blue cheese. No wonder I hated it. I detest Blue Cheese. She apologized for not letting me know that they put it on there or offering a different sauce. I just assumed they would use Ranch and it was white. They ended up giving me another slice with Ranch this time. So their customer service was epic. It would be nice if they offered more types by the slice. Or if they would bring in Green Olive Pizza. I used to get that from a place in Augusta owned by an Italian from Italy and New York. Loved it. Can't find it anywhere anymore. Overall, the pizza crust was nice and crispy. A little dried out but it was by the slice and sitting there all day. I want to try a fresh Pie next time and compare. I would have given it 5 stars but I literally just had Pizza in New York two weeks ago and while this was good.. it was not as good as what I ate in New York. Two different places in NY at that. It is also a little pricey, even more so than what we paid on Staten Island. Over 40 bucks for 8 by the slices and two drinks. My husband grew up in Connecticut with NY style pizza and this is his new favorite pizza spot in Charleston. We sat and ate yesterday afternoon and even mid-afternoon they had a steady stream of customers. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We got a half cheese half pepperoni NY style to share along with a Caesar and two drinks. The pizza is great - crust is super good, the sauce is nice and light. Will definitely be back for pizza. The salad was solid, fresh lettuce and great dressing. It was disappointing in terms of the size for the price we paid (felt like a side salad size for $11). They do only have bottled drinks so hopefully they'll have less plastic options soon but as a heads up if you don't like drinking from plastic. read more
