This is our favorite pre-symphony dining spot. Consistently good food - especially the lamb - and a nice atmosphere. We've always had good service. It's not fast food, so leave time for a leisurely dinner, but we've never had trouble getting to a performance on time. There's parking right in front, but in good weather it's nice to park at the Stephens Center and walk a few blocks back to the symphony or theatre. read more

The Pita Stop on Southside Birmingham and Cahaba Heights is my favorite restaurant in Alabama. The Kabob Plates as well as lamb gyro and amberjack are wonderful . Served with salad rice hummus. Food does not get any better than this!! I eat there regularly. read more

Healthy, tasty, reasonably priced and locally owned. If you like Mediterranean food, this place is certainly worth checking out. The date-nut bread is a must try as a subtle dessert. I am a huge fan of their hummus, the rib-eye steak sandwich and falafel. There is a large parking lot located behind Pita Stop on the same block, parking is really not an issue at all unless walking a few hundred feet is a problem. We ate twice this week at the cahaba heights location and had wonderful meals both times. The fish kabob was perfectly cooked and deliciously flavored. The amberjack was also terrific with a subtle lemony flavor. My husband raved about the coconut cake. Service was fast and pleasant. Altogether an exceptional dining experience. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Birmingham. The flavors are authentic and make your mouth water. I eat there about twice a week since I work close by. I usually order the Kofta Special. The hummus is the best hummus in the world, they make it homemade. I go there solely for the food, but everyone is also extremely nice and friendly. I recommend this place to everyone! read more

The staff was especially nice and accommodating. I had the falafel plate, and maybe this is just how it is, but it tasted like every other falafel plate I have had. I have been searching for an amazing falafel like one I experienced in NYC, and I have yet to find that in Birmingham. There was a TON of food for a decent price and they made it To-Go for me. I stopped by here for lunch today. Parking was a pain and we finally just illegally parked and walked. The restaurant itself needs some serious updating. I think they've been in business for 30 years and they still have the same decor. Now as for the food and service...it was a delight. The service was fast and the food was good. This place is awesome! I've been coming here for at least a million years, ok not really a million but forever. 99% of the time I've had the same waiter, sorry I don't know his name, but if you've been there ever you've probably seen him. Not a very talkative guy but his service is 'on-point' and my glass never goes empty. Service at this place is considerably above the average even when they are busy. I usually order the same thing every time I go here the baked Kibby plate with extra wild rice, yogurt, pita bread and tabouli. Everything I've had here has been amazing but it's my favorite dish. It's a Lebanese / Middle Eastern cuisine that's very popular in my family at least. Imagine the best meatloaf you've ever had but with lamb and pine nuts. The kabobs are quite a treat here as well, most dishes come with fresh fruit, tabouli salad and some for the best pita bread I've ever had. This place is a must eat / must try place if you are looking for Middle Eastern / Lebanese food in downtown Birmingham. Parking can be a little hectic, as there just aren't many places available, but it's worth every bit of the hassle for the excellent food and service. A great casual place to go and get a real meal. Lebanese-American entrees (our favorites are Kafta or chicken kabobs) come with rice pilaf, pitas and delicious hummus, and Greek-style salad. I had the filet mignon tonight, for about the fifth or sixth time over the last few years, and it was the best filet I have had in a long, long time. Regarding the previous times that I had their filet, there was only one exception to this same experience. Once, the quality of the cut of beef was poorer than I had come to expect and so I was disappointed. But I mentioned it to the waiter and he brought the manager (I guess) who apologized and said that he was aware of a growing problem with a certain beef provider and that they were in the process of changing their source for filets. Well, tonight certainly vindicated the one previous disappointment as the filet was of the melt-in-your-mouth finest. If I had gone to Ruth's Chris and spent twice as much, I may have been able to detect a slightly more perfect texture, but the seasoning and overall effect would certainly not have exceeded this...if even measuring up to it. Overall, tonight confirmed (once again) what I have said for many years: Pita Stop is the best value for excellent food in Birmingham. read more

Pita Stop provides an environment that is counseling comfortable and food that is plentiful, tasteful and nourishing.

I have taken many people to Pita Stop and every time their response is when are we going again. Those friends have then taken others there and their response is also the same. That is exactly the kind off place this is. The Pita Stop has been my favorite restaurant in the Birmingham area because it never fails to disappoint. Their chicken plate is quite cheap and great for lunch, while any of their kabob plates are great for dinner. It is a great place for lunch meetings, but it transforms into an amazing place to take a date to at night. Pita Stop is hidden away in the UAB area and many people don't know about it. Let's face it, we need to eat better food. And I don't just mean food that tastes better, but food that is actually tasty and healthy. So, we need to eat at the Pita Stop. The Pita Stop server wonderfully flesh Mediterranean foods including grilled chicken, kafta (meatballs), a variety of fresh fish, and tabouli that is incredible. When I first heard the ingredients for tabouli, I thought I'd hate it. Now I crave it, and I'm glad, because it is excellent, nutritional food. I highly recommend you make your first visit on a Friday, so you can try the tilapia. I don't even need a menu on Friday's. Just bring me talapia, and fast! It is amazing. I LOVE the Pita Stop. It has been my fiancé and I's favorite eatery since I started living in Birmingham and it's where we always go when we want a nice sit down meal. The service is great and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing. I've never had chicken that was so good! My fiancé always gets the omelet and he has never been disappointed. This is a pricier place for dinner time ($30-40 for two) but absolutely worth every penny. Great food, ABYSMAL customer service. I have been a patron of Pita Stop for years, and today's experience will ensure I never return to the South Side location. Around two months ago, my coworkers and I got takeout for my birthday lunch. Everyone's food was fine, except one person's. Fine, I get it, people make mistakes, no biggie... Well, today we tried again. My food order was perfect, but I picked up for everyone in our department, and my coworker (different one from last time) was missing half her entire order. Again, no biggie, right? I called Pita Stop and let them know what happened. They instructed me to return to pick up the other half of her order (which she was charged for, by the way). So, I get there, and the owner has the nerve to argue with me. He insisted the order was in the bag (it definitely wasn't) and then, grudgingly, initially only offered half of what was missing (half of what was paid for).. I only received the entire order because I insisted. I worked in food service for almost ten years, so I really do get it- people lie to get free food. That was not the case today. I felt extremely disrespected and will never return to that location (if to the chain at all). Diners beware: Pita Stop is under new management, and it sucks. read more
