We just came from the Blue Mountains and were super casual and grimy from the rain, but no one cared how disheveled we looked, and in fact, gave us wonderful service all around. We both had steaks that were excellent, but I will note that, in general, Australia (and New Zealand) cook their steaks more done then in the US, so order how you like your steak accordingly. The steaks had great taste (we chose the prime and dry age vs the wagyu) and the sides were great. Potato purée was buttery and creamy and the broccoli I was well seasoned and perfectly al dente. Again, the service was great. Sophie was incredible. Highly recommended!

Spacious restaurant with a toned down vibe. Bunch of Chinese diners, which I think were probably tourists. We ordered Wagyu steak and lamb chops. The lambs were soooo delicious. I'm a sucker for a warm cookie and some vanilla ice cream so I got the cookie. It was delicious. The place is quiet and a bit dim. It felt like being in a Rathskeller or inside a mushroom under the sea. I'd come again.

Well, today we're checking out Bistecca... a steakhouse speakeasy of sorts! Here's how it went and why it was rated #45 of the top 101 steakhouses in the entire world... Atmosphere/Appearance: Deep in downtown Sydney hidden in an alleyway in the entrance to this literal hidden gem. Lol. Once through the door and down the stairs you're taken to a very dark dimly lit, but very old-school looking tavern. It's a small room, but essentially a waiting room/cocktail lounge for you. Once it's your turn to head into the dining room the door open to the brightly lit room, your phones are locked away in a drawer which you have access to via a key and you're guided to your seat! I LOVED this experience because now you're forced to just live and be in the moment. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything that's happening. The tables and chairs are scattered throughout the room and you just, BE. Like the good 'ol days before smart phones. Service: I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent. We had no issues at all. Food: The menu is extremely simple. You're here for steak. That's it. The steak is sold in 100g increments. So you order by weight. We ordered 900g and the steak was so incredible we both wish we could've gone to maybe 1.2kg. Lol. That's a LOT of steak still, but this does include the weight of the bone. The feature is a large, T-bone steak cut from Australian-grown Chianina cattle and grilled over charcoal. It's recommended to be cooked medium-rare. It seriously was Heavenly. I don't even remember what sides we got. That's how good this steak was. Lol. Value: The steak is $19 AUD ($11.84 USD) per 100 grams (3.5 oz). The conversion can trip you up, so for example, the ORIGINAL steakhouse in NYC (Delmonico's) sells their 18 oz. T-Bone for $76.00 USD. The same size steak here would cost you around $65.00 and it's the #45 best steakhouse in the world. Delmonico's is not even on that list. Do what you wish with that information. Lol. The sides were appropriately priced. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and so did my wife. We still think about Bistecca years after we've been there and it's 100% worth making some good reservations as far in advance as possible because this place is small and will always be packed!

This was 1 of the best meals we've had here in Sydney with a great waterfront view Staff is nice and a great dining experience. My wife and I shared the Lamb Hook and a side of fries. The meat was tender and very good. The salad had a nice tasting vinaigrette and the meal also came with a gravy that complimented the lamb very well. The food was amazing. We were seated downstairs in their covered outdoor seating area. They also have indoor seating upstairs. Service wasn't too bad overall but they really could have checked on us more often after they had delivered our food. The food was kind of mixed. A couple in the group had ordered steaks and they were bland and tough. I ordered the Kangaroo for the table and we got that medium rare. Super tender and while it could have used more seasoning, the sauce we got with it paired perfectly. For myself I got the burger and beef ribs combo. For me this is where things go down hill. The beef ribs were TOUGH, hard to bite through and get off of the bone. As for the burger it was pretty dry but luckily I had the sauce from the kangaroo to fix that. I can say that the fries were perfectly cooked though. They have a number of cocktails to choose from but the beer menu was pretty limited.

Compared to United States prices, I find them actually quite reasonable for very high quality steaks. The restaurant is nicely decorated; service was great. It is located in the Rock district. The oysters were good but practically all oysters in Australia are good so nothing special here; however, the stars of the show were the steaks. They offered a cut of steak called Platinum Eye of the Rump which I've not had before in US so gave that a try. It's supposed to be Wagyu beef and did not disappoint. At $79 Australian dollars, that translated to about $52 US dollars and I would say you it was well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was super tender and beefy. The ribeye was a larger cut and more expensive at $110 Australian dollars or around $73 US dollars. We enjoyed the ribeye as well, but the eye of the rump stood out more. The steaks come with a choice of steak cut fries or salad so we ordered one of each. Both sides were exceptional as well. I ate at another steak restaurant in Australia where the sides were "meh" but I found these well made. Overall, I highly recommend this steak restaurant.

Inside has a more formal ambiance we appreciated, but outside - assuming no cruise ship in the way - is probably the way to go for views, as we requested an inside top floor table with a view and didn't get much of one; turns out not many tables inside with a view. Service was mostly good but oddly slow in a few spots, the wine list was on iPad, and our pomme puree (mashed potatoes) came quite late. Steak was very good. MB7+ tomahawk is a terrific presentation, perfectly cooked to your specification, and described in detail. If you want the very highest quality (MB9) unfortunately thay was not on the menu when we visited, but it was surprisingly difficult find higher than MB7 on the regular menu of any of their competitors so I digress... (keyword: regular) Rest of the food was excellent. Little gem salad and chips are included with your tomahawk, the pomme puree was deliciously creamy if you like creamy mashed potatoes, broccolini hit the spot. And the scallops, while modest in appearance, won high praise. As someone who normally has a hard time going out for steak, given I can almost always make a better one at home, I do have to say that for a special occasion, 6HEAD was on the mark.
