Stopped in Sonora to see the Caverns and decided to get a bite to eat. Looked at the reviews and came to the Pit Stop. The place was clean and the food was amazing! The brisket was tender, one of my kids ordered a sausage sandwich. He enjoyed it. My other ordered a pulled pork sandwich. He ate it up. My wife ordered a brisket sandwich and was not disappointed. I ordered the "Jackalope" sandwich which had brisket and jalapeño poppers on it. It was amazing. Service was friendly as you could expect being in Texas. I would recommend this place to anyone. This BBQ joint goes CRAAAAZY. We were returning from a three day backpacking trip in Big Bend and only ate chicken from a bag for the last 8 meals. We were grumpy, famished, and down horrendous. Y'all! This is some excellent Texas barbecue. I know it's easy to be picky about your barbecue and don't get me wrong that there are some awesome places in Texas ( I know because I've been to several of the top establishments). I had the 2 meat plate with sliced brisket and pork ribs. Both were excellent. The brisket is sliced thick but that's so they can cut it because the meat is so tender. The ribs were well seasoned and tender as well. I haven't had brisket beans before but putting chunks of brisket in your beans is a nice touch. My wife had the pit stop nachos which she said were amazing. Great potion size and reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. This place does not disappoint. read more

MEATS RIBS tender fall off the bone slightly smokey could have been bigger. BRISKET tender, juicy great beef flavor slightly smokey but could have had a little more salt or rub. TURKEY SUPERmoist tender good smoke damn near perfect. SAUCE they don't put much sauce but they have some on the table. Not to sweet little tangier but went well with all three meats. I would have never come in if someone in town hadn't recommended the place. Walking in it's not much to look at, however the place is clean and well kept. The girls in the kitchen were friendly and very helpful with our selection. We had the pulled pork tacos with pinto beans and corn. Corn was good although very rich. The pinto beans were by far the best I have had on either coast. The tacos with the slaw were amazing. The pineapple they add to the slaw compliments the Smokey flavor of the pork. Absolutely loved this place and was exactly what I was looking to find while visiting Texas. Ordered sliced brisket, pulled pork, and sausage with slaw and beans. Service was extremely quick and ordering was easy. I think I picked their three best meats and two best sides. It blew me away. Slaw had a unique flavor like I've never experienced. Beans tasted phenomenal. The meats were to die for. Brisket was as tender as it could possibly be. Pulled pork was flavorful and extremely moist. The spicy sausage had just the right amount of kick, although I'm pretty sure they were store bought and cooked. Either way, they taste great and that's the goal. I consider myself a BBQ snob, as I've been fortunate to try BBQ from all over the country from the south to the mid west and had some of the best the country has to offer. This place ranks up there. Traveling down the interstate hunting something to eat and found this little gem. Don't let its size fool you-they are serving up some Delicious bbq. The sauce is very good! I got the Bucking bronco which also has jalapeño cheddar sausage in the sandwich-yum! But honestly my favorite thing was the creamed corn-almost like pimento cheese and creamed corn had a love child. The BBQ meats are just a bit above average. The layer of thinly sliced sausage on the sandwiches adds texture difference but no flavor improvement. The cole slaw is far too sweet. Needs apple cider vinegar or something else to a better flavor balance. The potato salad is store bought and plain. The creamed corn is "different" but not special. Adding chopped peppers and red onions would greatly improve this side dish. If there IS a next time, I would just get the meat alone to take home. Seems the locals all do read more

It may look small, but this place is packed with flavor! We had the two meat platter with ribs and brisket and the Bucking Bronco sandwich -both were awesome! My friend loved the cream corn and potato salad. I though they were just "ok". The bbq sauce complimented the food well, and I found myself debating adding more or keeping it minimal to better taste the meat. I had not realized Sonora had this little gem. While visiting my father in law in Sonora, my wife and I went to the Dollar General. I stepped out of our car and smelt the beautiful aroma of BBQ. That aroma kept gnawing on me for a couple of hours, I had to get my BBQ fix. I was so pleasantly surprised by just how good it was. We hit it just right too, we walked right up to the window and soon about 8 customers filtered in behind us. We had an order to go and it was ready so quick, we didn't have time to study the decor. The young people who are in the kitchen are friendly and kind, I appreciated seeing such great attitudes and recommendations from them all. We ordered a loaded baked potato, bbq nachos, and pulled pork tacos. My favorite, by far, were the nachos. My husband and I both asked the kids if they wanted more so that we could dig in!
