Bbq sauce tasted like it had too much cumin in it 6. Worse part was the banana pudding. It was over $9 and based on my picture it looks like macaroni. I had 2 real slices of banana and maybe one wafer. They probably made the pudding using the Jell-O brand that comes in a box. It tasted horrible. We loved the e casual ambiance especially the Christmas decorations but that did not compensate for the warm (more on the cold )meal I was served, It's been 3 days and I'm still struggling with digestion issues after eating the pork belly and ribs. I looked at some of the reviews and it seems many have dealt with the warm/cold food. We were looking for bbq in the suburbs and happened upon this snazzy little place. It smelled great, the menu was more than just pulled pork sandwiches & brisket & it seemed pretty laid back. My wife and I went there for the first time yesterday around 5:pm, we were seated quickly because the place wasn't very busy at the time. We then proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait. 20 minutes later still waiting. The servers were not busy, just chatting among themselves glancing our way but not making any moves to serve us. With around 14,000 restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, my wife and I were sure to find a restaurant that would be more than happy to accommodate us. Was nearby so I stopped in to grab lunch for my crew. Hostess ignored me for a couple minutes. Then when she acknowledged me and I said I'd like to order for carry out, she asked me if I could wait so she could seat the (nice white family) that walked in behind me. I had to ask for a menu so I could figure out what to order. Besides her rude, casual racism and/or classism (which is a bit surprising for a BBQ joint especially where most of the workers look like me), I was surprised that they didn't offer a brisket sandwich. I asked and she said I could buy a plate and pay an addl dollar for a bun. It's a lot of food for lunch, but if you wanna try the brisket, you'll have to buy the plate. I'll post an update once I've tried the brisket, but at least the hostess was seriously underwhelming. Update: The brisket is nothing to write home about. Actually, I have a standard for restaurants that is that they should be able to cook at least as competently as I can in my own home. And frankly, my brisket puts theirs to shame. There was very little/ no smoke to speak of and it was on the dry side. Now brisket is tricky, you only have about 5° to play with. Too low and it's tough, too high and it's dry. But they are the one that hung out their sign to sell barbecue. The sauce that came with it was also just meh. Conversely, their mac & cheese was ridiculously good. I've been to Pit & Tap twice. Great BBQ! Great fries! Love the broccoli salad! The second restautant experience left me a bit dissatisfied. The pulled pork was served cold--bun & meat. Would have been better if the bun was toasted a little and pork was at least warm. The corn in the salad taste like field corn--old , mushy & a sharp contrast to the rest of the salad. The cornbread taste like store bought yellow cakes mix with lots of sugar--no authentic corn flavor whatsoever. It's just not true cornbread. This was by far the worst, most overpriced food I've been served at a restaurant in years. Out of 6 of us, only 1 person could eat their meal. It was LITERALLY inedible!!! They even screwed up the salads! How can you mess up a salad? Well, one person ordered a Caesar salad, and instead of caesar dressing, they poured mayonaise over it. Another person ordered a kale salad, and received wilted spinach instead. We ordered nachos as an appetizer, and whatever 'cheese' they used was disgusting and no one touched them. The service was atrocious and we waited more than 30 minutes to order our food. After paying $400 for 6 people to eat (and only 1 person could eat their meal), we had to go home and order a pizza. TRUE STORY. This happened about 3 weeks ago, and I'm still thinking about how that place stays open. Please someone buy that place and put in a decent restaurant!!!! read more

My kid wants me to call this review "best customer service I've ever had." He's not wrong. We went there on a busy Friday night and were on a little bit of a time crunch. We were seated immediately and did have to wait a little while for a server to come to our table. I approached a host to ask about it and he responded so kindly and swiftly, we had a server at our table within minutes. Our food came quickly and was delicious - but there was one small problem with my child's order. No big deal, mistakes happen to all of us. A few short minutes later they brought him a new order - that was also incorrect. The server noticed immediately and ran back for a fresh order. This one came out even quicker and was perfect! The server apologized and was very understanding. I was already planning my five star review when another server approached our table to describe how the restaurant was going to make it right. In my eyes, they already had! I asked to speak with the manager, Noel, to let him know that we weren't unhappy at all and that we were actually quite impressed with how well his team had handled the errors. They went above and beyond to ensure my child and I had a good experience and I want everyone to know how caring, professional, and responsive the entire staff is here. I recently traveled to Evanston, to visit one of my best friends, who wasn't arriving for another night. Decided to venture out to Wilmette, where I spent a few summers visiting my cousins as a kid, for a bite to eat. I was starving on this beautiful Sunday night and saw that "Pit & Tap" was hopping. So I popped in. Was sat at the bar right away, and greeted by a friendly bartender, George. He suggested one of the favorite "Tunes" So I went with the 'Stones' "Moonlight Mile" in honor of Charlie Watts, and, I like Vodka. Delicious! And it was so cool to look out the big open windows, on to the busy street. Now on to the food -- I decided to start with Smoked Wings, and move on to the "Texas Two Step" -- two choices of meat, (I chose the Brisket and the Pulled Pork) One side (Broccoli Salad), pickle and the homemade cornbread. The wings were wonderful, with just the right seasoning and tang. I finished my drink and the bartender suggested the Van Duzer Pinot to go along with my meal. Perfect choice, because the Texas Two Step was amazing! The Pulled Pork came with two choices of sauces. I tried the more spicy, but both equally good. And the Pulled Pork was smoked and cooked to perfection. And the Brisket -- moist and tender. And they do their own pickles, for Pete's sake! But the Broccoli Said was an absolute treat. Just the right sweetness. And finally, the cornbread melted in my mouth. What I loved best was the portion sizes. I have two girls and truth be told, they love "Chilis". I'm not a huge fan, but I love my girls. My wife and I have to split everything. Not because we're cheap (okay...maybe a little) but because we get so full from the potion sizes. But at P & T, it was the perfect amount. And I love how they put the food on a tray, and paper -- just like they do in Texas. My wife is from Houston, so texted her a picture and she was impressed! Finally a great local BBQ place. Loved EVERYTHING. Brisket was perfect. Great bark, juicy lots of genuine flavor. Ribs were tasty. The spicy pickles were the best I've had.
