I placed my order on October 28th and got an email from sharedservices@bethss.com which my first instinct is that their website was hacked because why would I get an email from a domain that doesn't even have a website? Why do they have their information? Apparently they are not very good at e-commerce and this is the best they can do with their limitations. Anyway, I replied to said email after I saw my order still saying processing and it bounced... I reached out to the regular customer service and they said to call or reply to the email that bounces. I called and after holding for 20+min I spoke with someone (nice guy btw - What are you doing there?) and transferred me to their Shared Services department where no one picked up and left a voicemail. They are not being honest with their shipping method. When you pay expedited shipping upgrade, they still use the basic UPS economy. It is cheaper for them to do that and they will get some profit from your shipping upgrade fee. Then they blame on UPS for missing the date and claim that they have a technical error LOL. So for Pipes and Cigar review, the short version: 1) Placed an order for almost 2x what was required for free shipping, and they said it would be here in 10 days (surely not, I'm only two states away) 2) After seven days, they contact me with a processing error (which was my fault) 3) Realized that they had de-prioritized my order from the very beginning, I guess because I'm a good customer. They didn't even look at my order until 7 days later, saw the payment error and then contacted me. 4) The little blip in payment processing (which I cleared up in a 15 minute phone call) cost me an additional 5 days of delivery time. So two weeks to get some products from a company in today's modern 2-day-shipping world. At least don't wait seven days before informing me my payment failed. I don't believe they actually steal people's money or anything, but I think there are probably tobacco vendors that deserve your business more. I probably WON'T be back. read more

This is about a sad failure by a long time friend. I started ordering from Pipes and Cigars about 15 years ago +/- a year or so. Generally I've gotten very good service and over that time had no complaints until recently. I always order enough ahead of time that I just take the cheapest option for shipping, which is the slowest too. That's fine by me, I'm not in a hurry as a rule so I have nothing to say about other's complaints regarding pipesandcigars.com being slow. In that regard "it is what it is" and if you want faster handling and shipping there are options that you can pay extra for to get that. As far as I'm concerned if you pay for the "it will get here when it gets here" shipping option(s) then you have no complaint if it takes a week or two. What I cannot abide is paying for something and then not receiving it. It doesn't matter if you paid for expedited shipping and got snail service or if you paid for an item on your order and didn't receive it. If you paid for it you have it coming to you, that's the way this kind of thing works. Online retailing it a great invention. I don't have to get in my vehicle and drive all over the place to find exactly the thing I need or want. The down sides are that it takes at least some amount of time to actually get my paws on what I order, I cannot examine the item directly until it arrives, and there is a serious trust factor involved between seller and customer. You have to believe that the online retailer will actually get things right or if that fails, and it's not reasonable to expect that there will never be a problem, the retailer will make it right in a suitably expeditious fashion. Up until 2020 I had no reason not to have confidence in pipesandcigars.com. I don't know if they lost someone due to COVID, if they're understaffed due to economics or social distancing reasons, or what the problem is but they have dropped the ball twice in a row on my orders. The first incident was a small matter, I order my pipe tobacco to create my own blend, which I have developed and has evolved over the years to suit me exactly and it is my own unique blend of pipe tobacco. Part of that blend is a thing called "Dark fired Kentucky burley", it's a "condiment tobacco" which is just what it sounds like. It is an additive to the blend like mustard is an additive to pretzels. It alters the flavor and character of the blend and the reason it's used is that it's very strong in both flavor and power (in this kind of thing, "power" = nicotine content) so not a lot of this stuff is required. It's not something you'd just put in a pipe and smoke so the quantity I ordered was small and only cost around $10. It was omitted from my order and without it I could not create my particular unique blend. I used the online form, which went unanswered for over a week. I waited another few days and called them. They made it right and shipped it to me via the slow method. I could not mix my blend until it came but as nothing like this has ever happened before I figured it was a one-off thing and forgot about it. I'm telling you all of this part so far so that you will see I have been very patient and reasonable but ... The very NEXT order they made a $150.00 mistake, AGAIN did not answer their online customer service inquiries and I was forced to call them AGAIN. At this point I'm beginning to be a less than happy camper but the lady on the phone did correct the order, discount the cost of expedited shipping and shipped it to me expedited UPS. UPS tracking says it will get here tomorrow sometime and UPS is spang on the money with that stuff. I might have let things go at that but I decided to check my card to see that the billing was modified correctly and that I was paying for exactly what I was getting at the rate we agreed upon. That's when I discovered that pipesandcigars.com had billed my card twice for the same thing. First for the item 'no longer in stock' that triggered the issue in the first place and again for the replacement which was exactly the same thing with a different flavor casing. (Tobacco flavor is called "case", the flavoring applied to tobacco is "casing" 'kay-sing') That means that I paid double for a single item. This is not a $10 problem that should not have happened, it is a $150 overcharge that should NEVER happen. So yes, I called them ... This time I got a different lady with a vaguely Hispanic accent (I'm not saying that as any kind of aspersion towards Hispanic people, I'm saying it so that pipesandcigars.com can help identify this person who works for them) and she was quite snippy with me about this whole issue. She told me that the charge would "fall off" in a few days. The charge has already had "a few days" to fall off and so far has not. If it doesn't do that by tomorrow I'll be disputing it with the card issuer and that's a headache for both the seller and me. I no longer have confidence in these people. read more

Once the magazine arrived (Elle of all things), that's when I realized what may have happened. I began being bombarded with spam and phishing emails. I was able to run down where everything originated and was told by BPerx P&C originated the free magazine subscription. This place SUUUUUUCKS! I've ordered tons of stuff from them over the years, but this business has seriously gone down hill the past few years. Sure, they've got a decent selection, and their prices are OK. But their customer service ranges from "absolutely terrible" to "non-existent". They are usually slow to reply, if they bother to reply at all. Plus, the quality and consistency of their product inventory is questionable. Furthermore, their website's product review system is a total joke; It's completely rigged! Several months ago, I ordered five items from them. Two of the products were good, the other three were terrible (one of these three items was a box of cigars that were so dried out and petrified that they were literally unsmokable -- seriously, it was physically impossible to even draw on the cigars!). Anyway, I posted five reviews on their website, one for each of the five products that I'd received...so, just to be clear, that was two positive reviews, and three negative reviews. The positive reviews posted to their site within 36 hours. All three of the negative reviews were deleted, never to be seen again. At first I thought it was some glitch with their site, so I re-posted them...and again, they vanished. At this point, I emailed their customer service department to ask why my reviews never showed up on their website? Were they experiencing tech issues? Was their something wrong with my reviews: Was it an issue with formatting? My reviews were honest, and therefore negative, but other than that they were completely benign...but, who knows, maybe I had inadvertently and unknowingly failed to meet some obscure requirement they had for reviewing products? I didn't know, but I asked about it all and asked why my they were refusing to post my honest product reviews. Their customer service department simply fled from my question, and avoided the issue by marking my inquiry "closed" and "resolved"...even though they had never bothered to reply. I contacted them again...and again, they simply closed the conversation without bothering to answer. I tried contacting them through their Facebook page, and was yet again ignored. That was the last straw. After years of shopping with them, I ceased being a Pipes & Cigars customer at that point. It's clear they are completely shady and have no interest in actually running a legitimate business. It's bad enough that they sold me low-quality, crap products, but what's even worse is their rigged, dishonest review system because it means that shoppers can't make well informed decisions about which products to purchase because Pipes & Cigars artificially inflates the ratings of everything on their site by deleting every review that isn't 4/5 or 5/5. It didn't used to be this way with them, but it's clear that they've now decided to flush honesty and fair business practices down the toilet...along with any semblance of actual customer "service". I don't understand all the negative reviews of Pipes and Cigars. I've been shopping with them for more than 10 years, placing 2-4 orders a year and have never had a bad experience. Their prices are usually as low or lower than most other online pipe tobacco dealers and they fulfill orders promptly. If what I order is in stock, I usually have it within 3 days or less. They also waive delivery charges for orders over $79. Their customer service is also excellent (although recently I've sometimes had to wait a few minutes to speak to a rep). The only downside to P and C is that their pipe tobacco selection isn't as complete as it once was. But they carry the major brands (Cornell & Diehl, Dunhill, Gawith Hoggarth, GL Pease, Lane, Mac Baren, Peter Stokkebye, Sutliff, etc.), plus all the usual drug store and bargain-priced blends. Also, their own Hearth & Home blends by Russ Oulette are some of the best to be had. I have noticed that the most popular European blends are often out of stock at P and C, but I've had the same experience at other online dealers, like smokingpipes.com, Cup O' Joes and 4noggins. I wonder if some of the complaints about slow delivery has to do with their allowing you to place orders for back ordered products. Obviously, these can't be shipped until they are back in stock, but they don't charge you until they send your items and, if they have to split your order up, they don't charge you for the additional shipping charges. I find this a benefit, as opposed to other dealers that only allow you to order things that are in stock. After years of good selection, good prices and great service, P and C is my go to pipe tobacco dealer. read more

In the past, I had reasonable success with Pipes & Cigars, both in their store and by mail. My last experience has, however, completely soured me on their business practices to the point that I have taken my business elsewhere. In May, I ordered a pipe, which I received in about a week. Within two weeks, though, using the pipe every few days, it developed a hole in the bowl the size of a dime. (I have pipes that are more than 10 years old and have never had this problem.) I tried using their help feature on the site and received no response. I called and got a run around. So, because my credit card bill was coming due, I called the bank and disputed the charge. I heard nothing from Pipes & Cigars. I late May, I placed an order for tobacco. When it did not arrive, I called Pipes & Cigars and was told that there was a problem with my bank that had to be resolved before they would process the order. I then spoke with a representative who advised that, in order for them to entertain my dispute, I would have to pay the charge in full. This is absurd. I asked that someone call me, but I never heard back. Frankly, I no longer can trust them. I have found someone else whose prices are competitive and that delivers more rapidly than Pipes & Cigars. First experience with this company was perfect. Easy to order, quick shipment and all items received. That's where the positive ends. Based on initial experience I dropped $400 on a multiple item order. Everything showed as shipped and then I received the box. A good third of my order was missing. Called company to arrange shipment of my missing items. Customer service rep. was polite, courteous and appropriately apologetic and very helpful. She verified my items were in stock and that they would be shipped out next day. Everything seemed to be cleared up. Next day I get shipping confirmation which STILL had items either missing or of an incorrect quantity. Called them again to get what I paid for shipped to me. At this point, I'm just hoping to get what I have paid for. Customer service rep. was the best part of this experience. I have had a few different issues with orders from this place. I had placed an order for some stuff to take out of town with me. Instead of a few sample sized bags of tobacco, they sent me someone else's order and I'm sure that person was pissed. They sent me two bundles of cigars and a cigar humidor!!! I tried doing the right thing and I called them. After being on hold for 30 minutes someone with a foreign accent answer the phone and there was definitely a huge language barrier between us. That didn't work out well at all and I just forgot about the order and kept what they sent. After another issue in May 2023 I swear I would never order from them again. I am going out of town and want to bring this new pipe with me, along with some new blends to try,so, I paid $30 for overnight shipping. The order hasn't shipped. I called customer service, and again I was met with a foreign accent. The lady said she did not know when the order would actually be handed over to UPS or whoever they are using. I explained that I am going out of town tomorrow evening and I paid for overnight shipping so I could have this stuff. I explained that I don't want it on my front porch for a week to become victim of a thief or bad weather ( rainy season in the southeast). I could see I wasn't getting anywhere with her because she kept saying it was possible it would be delivered tomorrow but couldn't promise anything. I told myself it wasn't her fault, and it wasn't, after all she is not the one in charge of packing orders. I told her I would like to cancel the order. She told me she couldn't cancel it and said something about a warehouse. So a tracking label hasn't even been printed yet, but they can't tell me when it will ship, nor will they cancel the order. I started ordering in 2018 when the drug stores quit selling 16oz bags of pipe tobacco. Our local pipe shop charges dearly and whenever I went in there it was like the Good Ol' boys club and surely I am shopping for a man....no, I'm a woman that enjoys my pipe. My Irish Grt Grandmother also smoked a pipe. I find it more relaxing, tastier, healthier and the smell difference between cigarettes and pipes are like a skunk and a flower! Have had two terrible experiences with this company and am done buying from them. Experience 1: placed an order with them and a few weeks went by without it even being shipped. I contacted them and asked them to cancel the order. The exchange went like this: THEM: We can't cancel the order and are going to ship it. ME: Well, where is the package now?
