Maybe you can't flush the toilet, or wash your hands, or take a shower, or do the laundry or wash the dishes, or stop a leak. In troubled times like those examples, you'd damn sure better have a good dependable plumber. Well, we found one. In the last 60 days, we've used Gilbert Plumbing four times as a key component in some remodeling work. 1) They disconnected and removed a sink/vanity and toilet from bathroom #1. 2) They repaired a pinhole leak in our main house supply line and added a safety shutoff valve. 3) After bathroom #1 had a new floor and walls, they connected a new sink/vanity and toilet. 4) They connected a new sink/vanity in bathroom #2. This install was a bit more complicated than the bathroom #1 install because the sink flange didn't line up with the old drain -there was a bit of an offset problem. Gilbert also installed a new garbage disposer to replace one that broke down. They always arrived promptly, worked quickly, and charged us reasonably for their work. Bathroom #3 is on the drawing board, and we'll use Gilbert to install a new sink and bring our 1972 shower up to the current building code.

We ordered a full replacement for toilet #1 and a "guts replacement" and a new seat (the old one had cracked) for toilet #2. A few days later, the job was done, and I want to also give a shout out to Office Manager Cam and Andy, the plumber who handled all of the work at our house. Called Avon Plumbing, Peter, the plumber came out, very gray older man, late fifties or early sixties. Peter couldn't identify the existing faucet, so he didn't know if he had any replacement parts. So he choose to replace the kitchen faucet with the Costco replacement. The shutoff valves were seized with hard water deposits & he couldn't free it up, so he replaced these two valves. Peter then replaced the kitchen faucet. Peter, worked fast, was very knowledgeable & experienced. (that's why I stated his age) The final bill was $361.71 for parts & labor. Peter was here for 1.5 hours. Avon Plumbing was pricy, but worked quickly & did good work.

I was told that there was another hose that needed to be replaced because it wasn't up to code. I was charged $700 for the replacement hose. The problem was not resolved, and when I called back to inform the plumber that the washing machine was still leaking, I was told to call an appliance tech because they don't repair washing machines. The plumber refused to refund me my money after I had explained that the leak had not been fixed, and the job was not resolved. Now I have to spend more money to have an appliance tech come out and assess the problem, and pay for any repairs. I was taken advantage of, for sure!

Just before the New Year this past winter we had Call the Bee (a plumbing company we'd used in the…read morepast) come out for a whole house main drain clog. We received a call back right away and they sent out a technician that afternoon. He was clean, courteous & upfront about the plan to clear the clog and the companies pricing. After the snake didn't clear the clog he used a camera and then a water jet to clear our line. Unfortunately the problem returned very shortly after and having lost faith that Call The Bee was able to fix our problem we called another local company. They came out same day, cleared the line and charged approximately the same price. Feeling like we shouldn't have had to have another technician out so soon and incur another charge, we reached out to Call The Bee and spoke with them. Yes, we should have given them a chance to fix the problem instead of calling another company but as I stated, we'd lost faith in them. But, we , I, was wrong. They (Call The Bee) were more than responsive to our problem. Took the time to hear us and wanted the invoice from the second company we called. Lo and behold one week later a check for the ENTIRE amount of our second plumber (slightly over $1,000) was sent to us. Steve came out promptly, assessed the situation, ordered the new pump and tank and installed them the next day with his son, Dan. Not only was the work top notch but they were very friendly and gave me an education along the way. Replacing a well pump isn't a cheap proposition so I consider the replacement cost one of the sad facts of home ownership (less than $6K). If you ever have an issue with your well pump I highly recommend these guys. Just a word to the wise that payment is required when the work is complete and before they leave the premises, cash, check, credit card.
